Here we are once again with a new chapter. Number twenty one, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Rise of the Guardians.
I do own Amora Summer though.
Jack awoke to a sudden pain on the front of his head.
More specifically his nose.
He shot up, knocking over the uncomfortable wooden chair he had been seated in and sending a large pile of books toppling over onto an innocent yeti that just happened to be passing by. He held his staff at the ready, expecting an attack only to realize where he was.
The library.
Jack sank back down to the floor and sat. Jack's plan hadn't been so much a plan as a tidbit of information, through which a plan could be formed. He and North had spent the better part of the night researching Amora's bow, trying to find out what magical properties it held that allowed it to revive the tree. So far they had found squat.
Jack sighed and held his head in his hands. He lied down on the soft carpet and looked through the glass ceiling. Though it was daytime, the moon was out, its face full of worry and questions. Or maybe Jack was just imagining things.
"Look, I know that you're not big into the 'talking' thing" Jack said, using air quotes. "But I don't know what else to do, could you just, help me out this once?" The moon stared back at him in silence. Jack sighed and stood up from the floor, "Figures" he said before something collided with the back of his head.
He blinked away the stars and put an icy hand on the back of his head, he was going to have a bump there, no question. He looked down to see what had just used his head to brake its fall.
He found an old book, a big, old book that was covered in a thick layer of dust. It was bound in leather and the title was gilded with gold leaf. It read: 'Spirits and Their Objects of Power: a Complete History.' Jack looked back up at the moon.
"Thanks Manny" he said, before he picked up the book.
Well attempted to pick up would be more accurate. The book weighed a ton, and Jack struggled to lift it the short distance from the floor to the table. Eventually Jack did manage to dump the load that was this book onto the surface of the table.
He opened the cover and cringed. The table of contents appeared to span nearly 400 pages. The index in the back of the book was even longer. The words were so small that Jack had to use a magnifying glass to read them.
After a solid three hours of desperately searching through the book, Jack found Amora's page.
There was a sketch of her that was taking up the first half of the first page. It must have been from centuries ago, before she met Jack. Her hair was plaited neatly and she wore a long white dress. Her eyes were burning even in the picture, and her face did not look friendly. Jack began to read, looking for some insight into the bow.
Amora Summer, spirit of summer and love. As a nature spirit she has power over some the elements of her season, in the case of summer this is fire.
Jacked skipped ahead, scanning until he found something more along the lines of what he was looking for.
In her human life Amora was a priestess of Aphrodite, giving her a special connection with the ancient goddess. This is the source of her influence and power over love. Amora does not directly cause the emotion described as love, but delivers a conduit through which Aphrodite uses her power.
Amora's bow was a gift from Aphrodite's son Eros, who is believed to have been infatuated with the spirit during her early days in Greece. The bow is endowed with a powerful form of love magic that is unknown in origin and use.
Jack almost smashed his face into the book. 'Unknown in origin and use.' That was no help whatsoever. He continued to read hoping to find something, anything, that would be useful.
Her arrows are grown on trees that were watered by the tears of Aphrodite herself. The spring that resides in her palace is also composed of these tears. The arrows are dipped in the water to enchant them, opening the channel that Aphrodite uses to create feelings of love.
Jack eyed the arrow that rested only a few feet away. Was it enchanted? Is that why she had brought it with her to Doubt's palace? A sudden fear of the stationary projectile arose in Jack. He had no way of knowing whether or not this particular arrow was enchanted, but there was one thing he was sure of. If it was, he was in possession of a very powerful magical object; powerful enough to defeat Doubt.
Only one question remained as a plan started to form in the mind of Jack Frost.
Was he willing to risk it all, to get her back?
Anybody know what Jack's plan is? Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, you're just going to have to keep reading to find out. Reviews are much appreciated and I encourage you to do so if the mood strikes you.
