((Hiten))
~~OO~~II~~OO~~
As Inuyasha helped her to her feet, he was startled as words with a tone of pure hatred came from Kagome's mouth. "You bastard!" she hissed, "What are you doing here!? Go home! Get out of here; we don't need you and your pathetic clinginess here!"
Hiten clicked his tongue, shaking his head while turning a gaze full of malice onto Inuyasha. "And I thought you'd learned your lesson about staying away from other guys, Kagome."
Kagome stiffened and snapped back, "You don't get to decide that for me, Hiten, now get out of here. I'll have another restraining order put on you if I have to."
Hiten sneered. "Oh, but I was so happy to see you again…"
"Kagome," Inuyasha growled, but was ignored when the woman raged, "Get out, Hiten. NOW." Then she smirked, saying as she reassuringly touched Inuyasha's arm, "You don't have a chance now at anything having to do with me. This is Inuyasha Takahashi, my boyfriend."
Hiten hissed, and Inuyasha responded with a growl as he wrapped an arm possessively around her waist, golden eyes glaring. "What do you want with Kagome?" he demanded.
"She didn't tell you?" Hiten said with a sickening smile. "Kagome and I dated for a while. We were…happy."
"Shut up," Kagome yelled at him, "SHUT UP."
Hiten continued without seeming to notice. "But now that you're here in the States, any laws from Japan don't count. I can do whatever I want."
"There are laws against stalking and attempted murder," Kagome said coldly. Inuyasha's eyes narrowed as he continued to growl, his demon side unhappy with the male. "Inuyasha and I could easily put you in jail for life if Mom sent the information over."
Hiten tapped his chin thoughtfully, and then snorted. "And how do you know your mother's even still alive?" he said, returning her smirk from earlier. "You haven't even talked to her. Didn't you know? They're already planning tickets and such to bring you back. They think I'm just an over possessive demon."
Kagome's eyes were full of rage, and Inuyasha winced when her powers sparked him. She didn't realize it; in fact, she didn't realize she was sparking at all. "Kagome," he said, glaring at Hiten, "What did he do?"
Kagome fell silent as Hiten burst out laughing. "You haven't even told him? Ah, but how can you even talk period, Ka-go-me?"
Kagome clenched her fists and lowered her gaze to the ground.
Hiten snorted, looking disgusted as he turned away. "That's what I thought. I'll be curious to find out what you've done, half-bred dog." He grinned at Kagome in a vicious kind of way. "I was pretty sure I made it so that she'd never talk again. But she didn't listen to me when I warned her. So it's her own fault."
That said, Hiten was gone.
Kagome quivered and Inuyasha growled for a few moments before kissing her head. "Kagome-"
"Let's just…just go inside," Kagome whispered, looking shaken now. Tears were building in her eyes. "I need to call my family."
Inuyasha frowned. "Kagome, who was he?"
"Miroku can tell you," Kagome rasped, shaking him off when he wrapped an arm around her shoulder. She squared them, and then started for their condo, glancing at him. "I need to talk with my mom."

Inuyasha had never, not once in his life, been worried about anyone who suffered Miroku's anger. But the moment Inuyasha had mentioned the name "Hiten", Miroku took on a look that promised death to the owner of that name, demanding how Inuyasha had gotten it.
Inuyasha, instead of backing away from Miroku's anger, retaliated with his own, hissing, "Who the hell is this guy, Miroku?!" His voice took on a deadly tone. "If he's threatened my intended…"
Miroku gave a harsh laugh and Sango bit her lip, glancing between the two. "Threatened? He threatened her, alright!" His eyes gave a malicious gleam, and it scared Sango slightly. So she moved over, gently touching Miroku's arm. His eyes warmed as he glanced at her, and she relaxed.
Inuyasha growled in frustration. "What do you mean, damn it! You and this Hiten guy and Kagome are all speaking in riddles and it's pissing me off!"
Miroku's attention sharpened. "What do you mean? Is Hiten here?"
Inuyasha snarled. "Why do you think I was wondering about the fucking name, you idiot!? Kagome looked like she wanted to kill the guy."
Miroku fell quiet, then rasped, "Damn." He shoved a hand through his hair. "I don't know much about him, but…when they dated; Kagome said she was scared of him sometimes. He wasn't afraid to push her around. Kagome won't talk about what happened to her, but…the whole family has accusations on who did it."
Inuyasha's expression went blank for a moment, and then he was snarling, storming towards the door, ears pinned and eyes flashing a dangerous red. "I can easily find him again."
"Inuyasha, no," Sango said sharply, "If you kill him, you'll be sent to jail, and Kagome will be left alone to deal with him. Miroku's already been given orders from Kagome's father that if he goes near Hiten for revenge, or even touches him, he's no longer part of the family. Kagome would be all alone. You don't want that for her, do you?"
Inuyasha paused. "What do you think we should do, then?" He growled.
Sango beamed, winking. "Oh, that's easy. Totosai. Ask him another favor, Inuyasha. Go see him now. Go tell him that when you go to put Kagome under demon laws, you need him to say she needs to prove that she trusts you to help her as her intended. You need to tell him to say that she needs to tell you her darkest secret."
Inuyasha looked just as stunned as Miroku. "…that's not a bad idea," the half-demon admitted, surprised.
Sango smirked. "I was the only girl in a house of two stupid idiots for a while. I wonder who came up with half the planning for the place."
Miroku pouted. "I helped with that," he protested.
"You go," Sango said, turning to Inuyasha again. "When you go tomorrow, you need to bring something to record the whole situation; we'll hide a recording device in your black leather jacket's sleeve."
Inuyasha nodded and disappeared out the door.
Miroku groaned, shoving a hand through his hair as he rasped, "Things are going to get ten times more serious with Hiten around."
Sango gently kissed his cheek in reassurance.
A small noise caught their attention and they glanced back to see Kagome coming out of her room, wiping at her eyes and removing the tears from her cheeks, whispering, "Sango, I need some help."
Sango smiled at her reassuringly. "Sure, with what."
Kagome hesitated, and then straightened, squaring her shoulders. "Packing. I need help packing. I…I want to go back to Japan."
