He was nervous. Of course he was. What sort of man wouldn't be nervous to tell his wife that they should wait a while before trying to have a baby again? What the hell was he going to tell her, that wouldn't upset her? Hey baby, you know how you want a baby, I don't… yet. Yeah right. Because Elsa would be totally fine with that, wouldn't she. Jack had decided. Life sucked. There were good moments, and then there were the real shitty moments when you just want to cry. Jack was having a shitty moment in his life that seemed to go on forever. He did really want to cry. He sat in his car with his head resting against the steering wheel and he groaned. Glancing at his phone he saw the missed calls and not a moment later an incoming call from none other than the woman herself, "Darling?" Jack answered before cringing. Never. He'd never called Elsa 'darling' it just sounded wrong, it seemed Elsa could hear him cringing since she was giggling like a school girl. "I'm never saying that again… it was just… not me." He finished with the lame excuse.
"Well then. Now that that's settled." There was a mini pause before Elsa decided to scream into his ear, "Why haven't you been answering any of my calls?" she asked in that demanding tone she used to use back when they were at college. Jack used to find it sexy, now he's so used to the demanding voice she uses when she's cross that he doesn't get so turned on by it anymore. But the question almost seemed alarming, was she suspecting him of an affair again? No, she wasn't that paranoid.
"I didn't know you were going to be calling me. You said you'd be in the office all day so I assumed you wouldn't call. My phones been on silent since I left this morning. You know I don't like my ringtone… it scares me." He admitted, it humored them both how his own ringtone scared him so much. Jack smiled as he heard his wife tsk and could imagine her rolling her eyes with that humored smile on her face.
"Then change it, Jackson. It's very simple. You were the one who showed me how to change my own." She reminds him.
"Yeah, but it's not that, it's just how unexpected it is when someone calls you and it just… makes a sound. It scares me." He smiled at his own excuse, no, it wasn't an excuse, it was more like a silly joke to him that acted as a reason for him to not answer.
She snorted a laugh, like those laughs that are just breaths through the nostrils, like she was so used to these silly 'excuses' that she was humored by how he believed she still fell for that. "Alright, if you say so Jack. Anyway, I was calling to see what time you would be coming home at, I'm in a really good mood tonight and if you're lucky, you might just get some tonight." Her tone was seductive and Jack found it hard not to shiver in delight. That's when he remembered why he'd come out in the first place.
"Uh, well actually, I was just getting into my car now, putting the key in the ignition, and…" As he spoke he acted out what he was doing, he turned the key and the engine of his roared into life, "It's alive!" He announced in an exaggerated shout of glee.
Elsa laughed full heartedly, "Jack, stop messing around and get your ass home." She managed to tell him through her fit of giggles. Jack smiled at the sound of her happy laughter.
"Okay, I'll be home soon." Jack says, ending the call, with the engine still running Jack throws his head back groaning. "What the fuck, Jack? Man the fuck up and tell her!... She… she's your wife… you don't… keep secrets from your wife… Fuck!" Jack tried to convince himself to be stronger than how he felt, but the idea of making his wife sad, angered and frightened him.
Deciding his best option was to just face this irrational fear of his Jack pulled his car out of the parking lot and made his way home. The entire journey home was filled with loud music from the radio which helped Jack psych himself up.
When his humble abode came into sight Jack ruffled his hair up with one hand, driving up on to the driveway. "Remember what Dr. Carl said, Jack. Just tell her how you feel, you've been married long enough now to have the balls to at least talk to her about feelings, what harm can telling her about this do?" Jack questioned himself looking at his reflection in the rearview mirror, with another large sigh he abandoned his car after leaving and locking the doors, and made his way towards the large front door. Jack had been through this front door thousands of times, but now it felt as he opened the door that he wasn't opening it to enter his home, he was opening the door to enter his death sentence.
"Jack?" Elsa's sweet melodious voice called out from the kitchen. Only moments after she was rushing round the corner and in front of him with a huge smile on her face. Taking in her appearance Jack did a double… triple take at her belly. She'd stuffed one of the pillows under her shirt to give her the appearance of being heavily pregnant. Jack's eyes widened, and at the sight of her happy smile his heart sunk. Did he really have the heart to do this to her?
"Elsa? What… why do you have a cushion up your shirt?" He questioned, still in complete shock, he hoped she was just doing this because she was cold… but Elsa loves the cold, that doesn't make sense.
"Isn't it cute?" She squeals in glee, rubbing her fake pregnancy belly, "I just wanted to feel how it was to be pregnant again, it feels so… so… ahaha!" she screams running towards him, the cushion falling from underneath her shirt… or actually… his shirt.
"That's… a little bit strange actually. Um, honey… we need to talk." Jack tells her, his eyes still as wide as saucers, Get it over with Jacky boy! The sooner you've done this the sooner you're dead… That wasn't helping his nerves. Taking her hand Jack led Elsa to the couch, knowing what he was about to tell her was no doubt going to upset and disappoint her.
"What's wrong sweetie?" she asked in the softest voice possible, and the concern that was etched into her features made Jack all the more ready to throw up and give up. "Is there something wrong at work? Was it Pitch again? Did he send you another threat?" She questioned, and at a time like this Jack felt all his insides twist and turn and do things your insides should never do… like back flips. "Is it your mom? Is she alright? It's nothing serious right?" she continued, at no point giving him the chance to respond. These times, Jack felt frustration the most.
"Elsa! I'm not ready to have a baby with you yet!" Jack shouted, trying to get her to stop and to get his point across to her. Jack saw Elsa's happy mood from earlier turn sour and the glimmer in her eyes faded away. Jack's inner thoughts shouted, shit, shit, shit. "No, that came out wrong… well it didn't, but please, you need to let me explain myself first-"
"Explain? I think that that was very self-explanatory Jackson!" She screamed at him, jumping up from the couch and facing him, her arms folded against her chest. "But go ahead, explain yourself."
"I'm not talking until you sit down." Jack stated, when Elsa was about to protest, Jack's balls finally grew a size larger, "Sit down, now Mrs. Frost!" he all but demanded this time. Elsa had fear in her eyes, "Now I'm sorry, for shouting at you, but you can't keep running away from the things you don't want to hear! I do everything I can for you. By me telling you that I'm not ready shouldn't make you mad, you should be asking me why I'm not ready!" He declared walking around in a circle in front of her.
"Then why, Jackson, why aren't you ready? Why don't you want to have a baby with me?" She asked.
"Listen to yourself woman! I do want to have a baby. But not after we've been to countless counselling sessions due to your mistrust and insecurity. All because our last baby died! I don't want to go through that again, Els. I don't want to have to convince you that I haven't cheated when even you know I haven't cheated. If this reason isn't enough for you then I don't know what else to tell you." Jack told her, finally sitting back down beside her, he watches her carefully to see her reaction.
"Why didn't you tell me? When I told you I wanted to try for a baby, why didn't you tell me then?" She asked, tears brimming her eyes.
"Would you have listened to me?" Jack asked. "Truthfully, would you have listened to everything?" Jack added.
Elsa just covered up her face. "When though, Jack? When will you be ready?" she asked, the sound of her voice muffled by her hands. Jack leaned forward so he was closer to her on the couch, he placed his hand on her shoulder in a comforting gesture.
"When I know that you are ready for a baby with me, consequences included. I know you will say you are, but what happens if we go through the same thing again, and counselling with Dr. Carl doesn't work, what will we do then? I've told you I can't and I won't lose you, not to anyone and not for anyone… especially not because you can't cope with the loss of another child. Who knows, maybe it won't happen ever again. But Elsa I can't go through this again, where I am waiting for you to forgive me for something we both know I didn't do." Jack explained, his tone as soft as his deep hoarse voice would allow.
"I didn't know Nancy was a lesbian. You know I wasn't happy after… Ivy died." Elsa tells him, finally letting go of her unshed tears.
"Yeah, and that's what I really don't want to have to go through again. I lost Ivy too, remember. I didn't accuse you of having an affair, even after you did accuse me, I still stayed with you. But, if this happened again what would we do, would we live on together hating each other or what?" Jack asked.
There was silence for longer than what was needed between the two, Jack felt the anxiety of telling his wife coming back, but not as much, and not for the same reasons. Now he felt anxiety towards Elsa's next reaction. The woman seemed to notice Jacks discomfort with waiting for her response, wiping the tears away with the pads of her thumbs she turned to face him, "I need to go out. I'm beginning to hate this house." She tells him, standing from the couch.
"You want to go out for dinner?" Jack asked, hoping she'd nod or at least tell him that she's not too upset… but who was he kidding, he'd just crushed his wife's world, all with one sentence.
"I want to eat out, alone, so I can think." She tells him, taking her slippers off and replacing them with a pair of black pumps. "Don't wait up for me." She adds, as she searches for her purse.
"Elsa, I'm not letting you go out alone, I'm coming with you." Jack doesn't give her a choice, no matter how many looks she gives him telling him that she needed the time alone, Jack refused to allow his wife to be out on her own, not only was it due to the fact that Pitch was trying to get to her, but around this area of town there were dodgy people who liked to prey on pretty women, no matter what their age was. "You wanna walk? Or drive?" he asked.
"Walk." She simply responded.
As a gentleman, Jack walked on the side of the path that was closest to the road, he tried to keep Elsa as close to his body as much as she would allow, but judging by their earlier conversation he realized that she would obviously be keeping her distance. Looking over at her a few times Jack saw how she continued to furrow her brows and pouted every now and again, sometimes her bottom lip would quiver and his heart strings would be tugged on enough to cause him pain.
"Babe." Jack called out to her as he heard her sniffle, he was done with feeling this pain from the pain he'd caused her. Despite her protests, Jack pulled her into his arms, wrapping his strong arms around her shaking shoulders, kissing the top of her head, Jack pulled Elsa into the park to sit on a bench, when they sat, Jack pulled Elsa onto his lap, stroking her cheek, "I am so, so sorry. I didn't want to hurt you, but you needed to know. I didn't go to work today, I went to see Dr. Carl, and I needed to know what to do, because this is what I was scared of. Hurting you." He whispers into her hair.
"I'm alright. It was just a shock to the system you know. I thought that if I was ready then you would be too." She admits, snuggling into his broad chest.
"No you're not. I know you and I know that you are not alright. I hurt you, and I promised you I'd never do that. I just… I want to be sure that you will wait for me… It won't take me long to be ready, but you won't leave me if it takes me too long, right?" he asked in haste, eager to see how she felt. Elsa sniffled a laugh. "Wha- what does that mean, babe?" he asked, nuzzling his nose into her cheek.
"I'm not going to leave you dummy. Of course I'll wait for you, but if you make me wait for too long, you'll be back on the couch." She informs him. Beginning to giggle, "Leave you? You couldn't get rid of me even if you tried. Silly man." She laughs, placing her hand on his cheek and kissing his lips. What was at first just a simple peck on the lips, turned into a snog, which then became a full out make out. Jack pressed his lips against Elsa's harder, causing the woman to moan, a few times she felt a warm muscle swiftly caress her lips. Trying to pull away, Elsa put her hands firmly on her husband's chest, attempting to push him away, but the man was clearly stronger.
Finally satisfied with his kiss, Jack rested his forehead against hers, "I think… we need to get going before… I can't control myself." He tells her, making her laugh, "Hey, stop laughing at my pain, or I won't let you go." Jack growls with a smile.
"Come on, let's go and get some food, your wife is hungry, and she's craving for some Chinese take-out." Elsa declared as she jumped off from his lap and waited for him to stand up with her, her hand extended towards him. With a smile, Jack entwined their fingers and walked alongside his wife out of the park and to the fast food restaurant.
"You sure you're okay now?" Jack asked in a soft voice, changing their position from holding hands to wrapping his arm around her and drawing her body closer to his own, in a protective manner, once again he was on the side closest to the road.
"Yeah, I'm cool." She reassures him once again, "Now… tell me what Dr. Carl told you?" She asked with a smug smirk on her face, "And tell me what you told Dr. Carl." She requested, drawing circles on his chest. But to her dismay her husband didn't seem to mind informing her of what the man told him, but the part of what was mentioned to her that stuck out the most, "His son was adopted?" she asked in disbelief.
"So everything else about him believing I'd make a good dad does stick, but the fact that his son was adopted does? Woman! You're going to drive me insane." Jack slapped his palm against his forehead.
"I could've told you that." Elsa smiles up at him, Jack leaned down to give her a light peck on her lips. Pushing the door of the couples favorite Chinese take-out open, and allowing his wife to enter first, the platinum blonde woman smiles brightly at the owners of the fast food restaurant.
"Kuzco! We'll have our usual, please. Thanks buddy." Jack called as he rejoined his wife inside the shop, as Kuzco called to his co-worker, a large man named Pacha, Jack and Elsa waited patiently for their orders to be finished. Without warning, the door swung open behind the couple, and in walked a man whom made Jack glare daggers and Elsa to wrap her arms tighter around her husband.
"Well isn't this lovely, are you spending the night together before you hand your beloved wife over to me?" Pitch snickered, gliding across the floor heading towards the woman, he reached out to touch her…
But Jack stepped in front of her, "Get the fuck away from my wife you black snake. I told you when I got that letter, oh and by the way, who sends threat letter's nowadays. Anyway, I called you and told you I would never allow her to spend a night with a disgusting bastard like you, so go and crawl back into your little hole where you belong and leave my wife alone." Jack sneered at the man, the glare intensified.
Pitch chuckled, turning to look at Elsa, "I know many things about this man that you may not, my dear, all I ask is one night of your time, and then your husband's company is safe, and all the information on your husbands past is yours." Pitch whispered to her.
"Nice try Pitch, but I don't keep secrets from my woman, so go find yourself some other poor defenseless couple to scare, you don't scare me." Jack snapped, pulling Elsa away from him.
"What about the bad stuff, Jack? You can't protect your wife from your dark history forever, Frost." He announced before leaving the shop.
Authors Notes: I AM ALIVE!
I know, I know, I know.
It's been too damn long, and I don't really have much of an excuse except… for a time I'd lost my muse for this story and well… I didn't do anything, but then I got my muse back… don't ask me how.
I hope this is alright, I know I've been away for a while and I hope I haven't lost my… skills?
Also if something doesn't make sense to you I am sorry… I thought I had a good idea then I didn't know how to write it.
