"What do you mean, gone?" Sako asked, trying to stay calm.
"He's gone! I think he went through the hole in the fence!" She cried out.
Sako got up in shock. Pidge was also worried.
"Ray, you are going to go stay with Deja and Xander for now, okay? Your mother and I are going to go look for your brother." Sako said, still trying his best to stay calm.
"Is he okay?" She whimpered.
"He's fine, I bet he is just with Grandma and Grandpa, okay?" He assured her as Pidge opened the gate- they spent a lot of time in the paddock, and it was not that hard to unlock.
She nodded, tears in her eyes.
"Ill wait for you by the woods." Sako whispered to Pidge with a nuzzle as she went to put Ray in the stables.
"Mommy, I want Bear to come home" she said
"I know hun, me too. We will find him, don't you fret" she said with a nuzzle as she put Ray in Xander and Deja's stall.
"What's going on?" Xander asked in a whisper, for Deja was still asleep.
"Bear got out. We are going to find him. We will be back soon," Pidge said with one last nuzzle to Ray, and she vanished outside the door.
The sun was half way up as they ran across the plains. They looked everywhere they could, trying to find the Cimarron herd. Once they saw horses in the distance, they increased their speed by a lot. It turned out to be them, and they greeted Spirit and Rain.
"Hello father, have you seen my son Bear anywhere?" Sako asked.
"Ah yes. Quite free of you to allow your son to find us all alone out here" Spirit said questioningly.
"I did not know until my daughter told me" He said as he eyed Bear from a distance.
"Hmph, he told us you knew. So sorry dear" Rain sighed.
"It is not a problem, thank you for keeping him safe" Pigeon replied with a warm smile.
"Now you, are coming with us," they said, as the small foal approached them from the middle of the herd.
Alek walked out of the barn holding a bucket of grain. He noticed no horses were in the paddock.
"Cal, didn't we put the horses out last night?"
"Well yeah, but I brought Xander and Deja in eventually" She said
He dropped his bucket of grain and ran inside. He saw Xander, Deja, and Ray. No one else.
"Pidge, Sako, and Bear are gone," He said in an exasperated sigh.
"What?" Cal said in disbelief as she walked down the barn isle.
"Well, If I know Sako, he will have everyone back before nightfall. We can't go looking right now, because we have to go bale that hay." he said as he rubbed his forehead
"Why don't we do it tomorrow?" Cal asked.
"It's going to rain, and if we don't get that hay, there won't be enough for winter. You know we don't have the money for buying all that hay" He said with a sigh.
"Hey, it's going to be okay. Like you said, Sako will be back with the rest of them before nightfall. He knows the prairie like the back of his hoof!" Cal said, trying to be assuring.
"Lets hope," He said, as they both got into the hay bailer.
As the horses cantered back, They saw a cougar.
"Dad, dad there's a cougar" Bear said worriedly.
"It's okay, just stay out of it's way" Sako said as they walked along. They we almost back when they heard the cougar roar. It was running towards something. Sako followed its eyes and soon saw what it was after. A stray foal.
"Stay here!" he yelled to Pidge and Bear as he lunged into a gallop. He attacked the cougar with all of its might, stomping, bucking, and kicking. Eventually, he fended it off, and it went running.
"Are you alright?" He asked the small foal.
"I, I think so" she said as she tried to stand. She had a large gash in her back, and her legs were cut up.
"Where did you come from?" Sako asked
"My entire herd was killed. A pack of cougars attacked. I tried to get away, but that one followed me." She said sadly.
"Here, come with us. We can protect you. We live with people, but they are very nice people" He said with a warm smile
She was a bit reluctant, but she then gave in.
"Okay" She said as she limped along with Sako.
Once Cal and Alek got back to the farm, they began to unload hay from the hay trailers. Just then, they noticed Sako, Pidge, and Bear.
"Hey boy! You scared me half to death!" He said as he ran over and embraced Sako's big neck. Cal did the same.
That was when the small little filly walked up to Alek. She was a blue roan appaloosa, with a silver mane and tail.
"Who are you little girl?" he asked as he looked at her deep wounds. "Cal, call the vet. We have another wild horse on out hands" He said as he stroked her soft neck.
