Lea still couldn't believe it. Even as she watched her father be driven away in a cop car she couldn't believe it was all real. She looked up as Jaime grasped her hand and smiled. "Well young lady, as you have no relatives, you will be taken into foster care system now." She looked at the officer as he motioned forward the official looking lady she had noticed earlier. The woman walked forward and said "I am Ms. Patty. You will be in my care until we find you a family to stay with." Lea looked at Jaime and Jaime looked at his mom.
Jaime's mom stepped between the two girls. "Actually, my son and I are ready to take her into our family now" she said. Ms. Patty looked up. "Oh?" she asked. Jaime's mother nodded and said "If you have the paperwork, then we can sign it now." She turned to Jaime. "Jaime, why don't you three go finish packing?" she asked, handing him Sophie. He nodded and looked at Lea. "Let's go" he said, going back in with the two girls. He helped Lea pack her clothes, her few belongings, and her ice sculptures. Jack had promised that they would never melt. Then he carried it outside as Lea and Sophie followed him. Jaime looked at his mother and she smiled. She turned to Lea and said "Welcome to the Bennett family Lea".
Lea broke into a huge grin at those words. The cops had cleared out and Ms. Patty stayed long enough to give her a card. On the card was a number she could call if she ever wanted to leave. Lea knew she would never call the number, but took the card and shoved it in her pocket. Jaime's mom put the suitcase in the trunk of the car. "Ready to go sweetie?" she asked, reaching a hand towards Lea. Lea nodded and climbed into the car. She looked out the window, watching her old life get left behind. Then she turned and looked forward to the future. She knew she would be loved, cared for, and now had two siblings. She turned to Jaime, and saw he was smiling too. She was ready to restart life, and live it right.
