The entire ride back to Barden Chloe managed to ignore the brunette rather thoroughly. Even when they stopped for gas the brunette watched as Chloe moodily slid out of her seat making a beeline into the store determined not to let the DJ get a word in. Between the hangover that had yet to leave her despite the fact that she had gone back to sleep on the bus, and the fact that her favorite redhead hadn't looked at her, Beca didn't have the energy to fight it. Dragging her feet she grabbed a much needed cup of coffee, the biggest bag of jerky the store offered and returned to the bus.
By the time the bus rolled to a stop at Barden University, the coffee had staved off the hangover considerably. As Beca got off the bus she grabbed both her duffel bag and Chloe's mini suitcase determined to win her redhead back no matter just how ridiculous of situation she felt this was. As Chloe stepped off the bus seeing the brunette with her luggage she raised and angry eyebrow. Rolling her eyes the brunette put down the bags before walking up to the redhead, reaching out she grabbed firmly at Chloe's arms her dark blue eyes piercing into bright blue ones.
"Chlo. I'm sorry if dream Beca left you behind and rode off with Princess Jasmine. And I'm sorry dream Beca had the audacity to take Mr. Rainbows and give him to Princess Jasmine. But baby, it was a dream. And I promise you if Princess Jasmine came to me right now with the magic carpet and her tiger, I would tell her to turn her Disney ass around and fly back to Aladdin because my girlfriend is the only woman I have eyes for. So would you please, for the love of God and all his creations let it go." The sincerity in her tone would have been laughable considering the situation and her eyes pleaded with Chloe forgive for this ridiculous fight.
The redhead was visibly trying to fight down a smile at the words. She knew she was being irrationally angry, but she had genuinely felt so hurt in her dream state. She knew it was ridiculous that the DJ was taking the brunt of her dream induced anger, but she had to admit, the fact that the small DJ was apologizing to her made her heart melt.
"I am being a little bit unreasonable aren't I?" Chloe bit her lip smiling shyly back at the brunette who had noticed her smile and returned it with a smirk.
"What? You? Never." Beca shot back her voice dipped and deep fried in sarcasm and her eyes betraying the mirth in her words.
The redhead smiled impishly back at her girlfriend before kissing her softly gently professing just how perfect her girlfriend was against the DJ's lips before they broke apart.
"Bellas," Aubrey spoke up when all the girls had got off the bus, "I am so incredible proud of each and everyone of you. There's a final Acapella blowout party this weekend. And I thought we could have a last Bellas practice, just us girls before then. Okay?" She looked at the group of girls before her. Just a year ago the Bellas had been deemed the laughing stock of the Acapella world. Just a year ago, she had a panic attack over whether she could find enough girls with bikini ready bodies that could match pitch and harmonize. She had ended up with this band of misfits, and she would not have had it any other way.
"Aw, bring it in Cap. Bella group hug guys! Come on!" Fat Amy announced gleefully, knowing her audience she grabbed the DJ first before moving in for a hug with Aubrey. Beca who had been ready to bolt at the sound of group hug fought fruitlessly against the Australian's incredibly strong hold on her.
"C'mon gay Becs, resistance is futile. Bring it in." Fat Amy wrapped her other arm around Aubrey. It wasn't long before the rest of the Bellas had clustered around the three of them hugging tightly before the group broke apart.
00000000000-00000000000-00000000000
Beca picked up her pace as she raced through campus. It had been difficult for her to organize the number. When the idea struck her Chloe had been seated outside at the table at the radio station during her shift. In a stroke of genius she had grabbed her phone texting all the Bellas but Aubrey and Chloe.
Hey girls, I wanted to do a number for Chloe and Aubrey. Mostly Chloe… Tune onto the radio.
She played the song she had in mind figuring it was a great number for Acapella. She would gladly sing it to her redhead, and show their captain that the group was in good hands. The response was immediate as many of the Bellas approved of the upcoming song choice.
They had met up an hour everyday that week Beca running through each part with the girls and Fat Amy offering her help in choreography. An idea that Beca had to shut down after she had walked in on their rehearsal with several of the Bellas mermaid dancing. She had told a curious redhead that she had final prep with a few study groups to avoid suspicion. Although the fact that she was going to study groups daily itself was a cause for suspicion. She had told Chloe she had yet another study group and that she would go directly to Bellas practice afterwards and meet her there. The auditorium doors swung shut behind her several of her fellow Bellas had arrived early themselves. The room was buzzing with nerves, their first number without Aubrey and Chloe's guidance. By the time all the girls were there they did a run through of their steps and each part Beca giddy with excitement to see her girlfriend's face when they began their performance.
20 minutes before their rehearsal was supposed to begin the two co-captains entered the auditorium. The two seniors froze mid-conversation, Aubrey scanned the room in wonderment. It was the first time all year she was not the first one to arrive at rehearsal. Her father had drilled the concept into her head. Early was on time. On time was late. And late was absolutely unacceptable. Chloe scanned the room surprised as well that they were the last to arrive.
"What's going on?" The redhead asked tentatively as the group of girls faced them all with eager smiles plastered on their face.
"We thought we could arrange a number for you two." Beca beamed at the redhead her hands twisting nervously. A number just for the two Bellas was a lot more intimate then performing to a packed stadium at ICCAs.
"So you know we're in good hands with short stack." Fat Amy added.
"So sit back and enjoy you two." Stacie added before all the Bellas turned to get in position.
Beca walked up to Chloe guiding the two shocked still Bellas to two seats, "Sorry, I had to lie all week about study groups babe. But this song comes from the bottom of my heart." She gave the redhead a serious look but her eyes showed the playfulness behind her words before she returned to fall in line with her fellow Bellas.
Every time that you get undressed
I hear symphonies in my head
I wrote this song just looking at you ooh, oh
Yeah the drums they swing low
Chloe couldn't help but giggle at the song choice, and the Bellas definitely sounded fantastic. The redhead was certain at this point the smile was going to rocket off her face.
And the trumpets they go
And the trumpets they go
Yeah the trumpets they go
Da da, da ra ra da, da, da
Da, ra, ra, ra, da, da
Da da, da ra ra da, da, da
Da, ra, ra, ra, da, da
The Bellas joined together in a harmony the two captains smiling as they realized the Bellas would need their help with choreography. Between the awkward way the small DJ played the air trumpet, the occasional mermaid dancing that was clearly Fat Amy's idea, and the erotic gyrating that Stacie seemed to be doing herself.
They go
Is it weird that I hear
Violins whenever you're gone
Whenever you're gone
Is it weird that your ass
Remind me of a Kanye West song?
Kanye West song
Chloe couldn't hold back her laugh as the small DJ emphasized her point by leaning back and putting her hands out to squeeze an imaginary ass.
Is it weird that I hear
Trumpets when you're turning me on?
Turning me on
Is it weird that your bra
Remind me of a Katy Perry Song?
Beca turned to give the redhead a cheeky wink. As the chorus came up again the Bellas divided down the middle creating a tunnel. And much to the surprise of their two current captains sitting in front of the group, Luke came running down the tunnel high fiving the Bellas as he joined in the song. Aubrey clapped her hand over her mouth in shock, the merriment evident in her eyes as she watched adoringly as her boyfriend serenaded her loudly and proudly. It became apparent very quickly that Luke was more dancer than singer. You could hear his unmatched tune as the Bellas went on with their performance. But he skipped and flipped and grinded across the auditorium making Aubrey's eyes follow him. Beca couldn't help but fall in line with her best friend dancing beside him. The two of them putting on the show that made the two seated seniors blush.
As the final chorus came around Beca belted out loudly in a soprano that made her soprano girlfriend beam with pride.
Every time that you get undressed
I hear symphonies in my head
I wrote this song, just looing at you
Yeah the drums they swing low
And the trumpets they go
When the song came to an end the room filled with laughter, cheers, whoops, and applause. The Bellas congratulating each other for a job well done. Beca had turned towards the redhead to ask what she thought but was cut off by the soft lips that seemed to draw magnetically towards hers answering the unasked question. Aubrey for her part and leapt up squealing towards Luke jumping into his open arms wrapping her legs around him.
"Oh my God! I can't believe you did that! Aw, thank you for that so much baby." The slender blonde interrupted herself between sentences to plant kisses on her boyfriend as he held her up against himself.
The small DJ who had just pulled away from Chloe nudged her best friend in the side chuckling. "Oh great. I do all this work. Get the Bellas organized, organize the number, and he gets all the damn credit."
The blonde who had just been lowered to the ground turned shooting the DJ with a sarcastic look that made Beca proud. "I could be showering you with kisses. But let's be honest neither one of us would enjoy that. I certainly hope this isn't a sneak peak to next year's song choices and dance moves midget."
Beca looked like she was about to retort before a giggling Chloe clapped her hand over her mouth silencing her. "I don't think I would appreciate it if you kissed my girlfriend Bree."
00000000000-00000000000-00000000000
Beca would never understand her own mind. When Aubrey had rigorous schedules for Bellas practices the small DJ was unhappy. And yet, now that they weren't having regular Bellas practices it seemed strange that she didn't see her fellow Bellas several times a week. It was the night of Barden University's last acapella party of the year. Aubrey had already texted the Bellas reminding them to arrive on time. Customary to the Barden acapella tradition, the Bellas were being honored for their victory at ICCAs. It would be the first time in years that the celebration was not for the Treblemakers.
Beca grabbed her phone, wallet, keys, and smokes before she headed out the door and down the hallway towards Chloe's room. She had been busily texting the rest of the Bellas in preparation as tomorrow was Chloe's birthday. She knocked on the door and felt the oxygen leave the atmosphere as the door swung open. Chloe had opted to celebrate the Bellas victory in a pair of black jeans that might as well have been painted on, matched with a loose red top that hugged the redhead in all the right places and hung loosely in all the right places. It dropped so low you could practically count each freckle exposed on Chloe's back. A yellow plastic cup was already in her hands clear evidence of the pre-gaming the redhead had been doing previously. Chloe giggled like a school girl as she did a twirl for her dumbfounded girlfriend who had yet to say anything since the door was opened and the DJ's jaw had hit the ground.
"Like what you see Mitchell?" Chloe raised an eyebrow towards the small DJ, who was currently still undressing her with her eyes.
"Definitely," Beca broke out of her trance pulling the redhead closer her trademark smirk hinting at her intentions. Wrapping her arms around Chloe's waist, Beca softly traced the exposed skin of Chloe's shoulders making sure to trace her freckles with her lips. The redhead shivered against Beca.
Chloe breathed deeply trying to gain control of her body before she decided to forget about the party and pull the small DJ into her room. Gaining some sense of self she managed to push Beca back giggling as the smaller girl whined at the loss of contact "Alright short-stack, c'mon. I don't want to get chewed out by Bree on the night of our last Acapella party."
Beca made a move to pull the redhead's body back against hers and as Chloe's body fell flush against her smaller frame she nibbled at the older bellas earlobe.
"Maybe I think it's totally worth getting chewed out for." She smirked again as Chloe's bottom lip disappeared the redhead's restraint crumbling before her.
It was sudden and shrill, Chloe's phone sprang to life as it rang loudly in the heavy atmosphere. It was Aubrey.
"Damn it! Cock block!" Beca threw her hands up in the air with frustration before falling heavily on Chloe's bed decidedly giving up on life. Despite the fact that the blonde senior had horrible timing without knowing it herself, Beca found it surprising that she couldn't find it in her to get truly angry. She could hear the blonde's excited chatter about being the Bellas being the acapella stars of Barden. Chloe agreed occasionally as Beca listened on, Aubrey was excitedly predicting a new chapter in the Barden acapella book. The Age of the Bellas.
By the time Aubrey had hung up the two had already made their way halfway across campus towards the party.
"You know, it's almost like she knows exactly when to interrupt us." Beca mused.
The night air was chilled, it was no longer the heat that seemed to bear down upon them when the sun was up.
Chloe giggled, "You're right, Bree purpose in life has always been to cock block you. I can't believe you figured it out." She swung their connected hands happily as they walked past a row of fraternity houses, their parties already in full swing.
"I knew it," Beca huffed as they saw the gathering of Acapella kids ahead the music from the party already booming.
"Oh shut it you." Chloe bumped her hip gently into Beca's, a wide smile spreading on her face as she saw several familiar faces waving them over.
"Yes, oh sweaty naughty feelings causing one." Beca sighed following the energetic redhead who made a beeline towards the cooler and solo cups before joining several Bellas and BU Harmonics who were caught up in a rather heated debate over the best of Madonna.
Before Beca could even start remembering the last time she had listened to a Madonna song she felt someone tapping at her shoulder. She turned, it was Bryan one of the High Notes, they had spoken at several of the other parties and actually had English Lit. together.
"Hey man, what's up!" The small DJ smiled happily, glad to step away from the quickly escalating conversation as the BU Harmonics let fly some colorful words as Ashley claimed she had never liked the song "Like A Virgin."
"Becs, dude. Congrats on the ICCA win. It's about damn time the Treblemakers got knocked down a notch. Although, it's a bit upsetting that Bumper wasn't here. Always fun watch him flip a shit isn't it, kind of like watching an adult that could pass as a kid throwing a kid's tantrum right?" He grinned lazily down at her, his eyes bleary.
Beca couldn't help but laugh, he had managed to capture the essence of Bumper pretty perfectly, "Thanks man. That means a lot." He reached over and squeezed her shoulders in a 'you did good, kid' kind of manner.
"Hey look, we're about to go around back to the bushes and light one up. You up to join?" He pointed in the direction and she saw all the other High Notes smiling and waving her over.
"Hell yeah, is it cool if Luke joins us?" She turned spotting her best friend walking towards the party.
So there they all were standing in a circle behind several large bushes hidden from the other party-goers. The High Notes had come prepared, and there were two blunts going around in a circle among the 10 of them. They even insisted Beca lead them in a celebratory song in honor of the Bellas victory. The small DJ had smirked eyeing the circle of singers before her voice broke out among them.
"Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?"
The High Notes were quick to fall back creating a melody for the song. Beca noted with surprise how different their sound was to the Bellas. Their's was a mellow thrum to the way the High Notes conducted their tunes, several of the other High Notes harmonizing freely. Bryan joined in showing off his baritone and quick to harmonize to Beca.
"Caught in a landslide.
No escape from reality"
As is expected at an acapella party, when someone has begun singing Bohemian Rhapsody it spreads like wildfire. It wasn't long before the voices of several dozen acapella singers joined in. Beca smiled, closing her eyes as she took in the music of four extremely different styled Acapella groups all falling in line with each other. As they continued to sing the DJ felt an incredible urge. Somewhere beyond the bushes maybe still in a group with a few Bellas and Harmonics, Chloe was singing with her. She needed to go find her. Excusing herself from the group but still singing Beca went to go join the greater party.
"Mama, ooh. Anyway the wind blows.
I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all."
Beca frowned as she walked through the singing crowd unable to find her girlfriend. Finally she caught a glimpse of Chloe and stopped. She stopped everything. Unaware she had done so, the small DJ had actually stopped breathing at the sight of the redhead. Chloe, being quiet inebriated already it seemed, had mounted the table where the beer pong game had been on hiatus due to the song.
"Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go.
Let him go!"
The redheaded Bella had grabbed a discarded liquor bottle and began to passionately sing into it like it was a mic. Glad that it was too loud for anyone to hear her, Beca let out a giggle at the sight of Chloe's performance.
"Oh, mama mia, mama mia, mama mia, let me go.
Beelzebub had a devil put aside for me, for me, for me."
And suddenly Chloe had transformed the empty bottle into a bottle air-guitar. And the vibrant redhead began to strum her air-guitar furiously. Chuckling, Beca strode through the crowd towards Chloe's perch. She sighed deeply watching the redhead hop off the table to high fives and applauds, which she gratefully accepted throwing her hands up in the air.
"I'm going to marry the shit out of that woman." Beca mused quietly mostly to herself as she made her way through the crowd towards her girlfriend. Checking her watch quickly realizing it was a little bit past midnight she finally managed to get to her girlfriend. Pulling her in for a kiss before telling the beaming redhead, "Happy birthday rockstar."
