NCIS

Perplexus-

one month after friends of enemies and two months after moments of transition.

AUTHORS NOTE: Okay story wise as to the first part-Fate. I made some time jumps here and eliminated some characters. Michelle Lee is back in legal. Hollis is back at NCIS Peal Harbor. As for the eventual interrogation of the team, it's coming up. As for the main characters, the absence of them will be explained soon. It's very tricky how I want to write this so bear with me. Ziva is back with NCIS and is Bahrain to be closer to home. Palmer and Jordan are still working in autopsy. Ducky is still roaming about for the navy. I wanted to focus on other characters and create new team dynamics unlike the last one. Oh and Franks will be coming back a pivotal point in the story. But now it time to introduce NCIS LA to the mix, because it will be crucial.

A flying view of Los Angeles goes over Santa Monica and to downtown and then flashes to the headquarters of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service's office of special Projects.

A smattering of couches and unorganized paperwork lie around. A box of confetti like material awaits the team as the tech specialist Eric Beal complains.

"How am I ever going to scan this into the system and put this back together?"

A short older woman walks up and says, "Why don't you try a low tech way of solving your problem." As she hands him a box of clear tape.

"Thanks, Hetty. This might just take longer, like say years longer."

"Patience is a virtue, Mr. Beal. Have some!"

He is snapped back into place and begins his arduous task.

Meanwhile the OSP team consisting of former Navy SEAL Sam Hanna, Kensi Blye and one G Callen arrive late for work.

"I told you G, the 405 would be backed up."

"I'll take your word for it next time Sam."

"There won't be a next time, cause I'm driving."

"No." Kensi says as she grabs the keys. "I'll drive."

The operational psychologist Nate Getz walks up and observes, "You know asserting dominance in a male driven world can given you a feeling of satisfaction while challenging the-"

"Don't even go there, Nate." Kensi scolds.

Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange walks up and takes the keys.

"If anyone is going to drive it's going to be me. And I will make sure you all arrive on time. Not three minutes late and certainly not and hour late. Is that clear!"

"Yes." Sam says.

"Yeah." Kensi agrees.

"Really. This is a new side of you, Hetty." Callen jokes.

"Mr. Callen. Don't you think for one minute that you are in the clear. You have been late every day this week."

"What can I say. Punctuality isn't one of my strong suits. Becoming other people is."

Breaking the conversation, Sam speaks up, "What do we have today?"

"Macy is awaiting you all in ops. The director has been standing by for half and hour."

They all run up and hurry in as Nate and Eric look at the box of shredded documents that Assistant Director Vance delivered three weeks ago.

Gibbs enters Vance's office and asks, "You're sending me to LA?"

Vance looking at his folder infront of him and closes it says, "No. It's been recended. The Office of Special Projects is not in need of review right now. I have one of the best operatives running things down there now. Have you heard of Hetty Lange?"

Gibbs responds, "Only in stories and whispers. Is she up to the task?"

Vance shyly smiles and responds, "I hope she is."

Meanwhile in LA...

"So you get around from what I hear. You know everyone thinks your dead." says Agent G Callen to a mysterious stranger.

"I am dead, Special Agent Callen, according to legend." says his 'contact', former Mossad officer Ari Haswari.

"So what are you doing here Ari, and why meet with me?, asks the agent.

"I'm looking for solace. You country has a unique culture." Ari says as a guy in a mowhawk and fanny pack ride by on rollor blades. "This would not happen in Tel Aviv."

"Well we're the land of the free, and the home of the unique I guess."

"Likewise." Ari replies as he puts on his sunglasses.

"You never asked my question, why are you here...Ari?"

"Just sight-seeing Special Agent Callen. Trying to get to the point is not your style, it more like that of Gibbs. I see you learned too much from him."

"Yeah...well at least I'm not wanted by nearly every major power from here to Jerusalem." Callen mocks.

"I am not wanted, but I am a legend." Ari mocks back.

"Legend or not, you'll be seen here."

In the distance, another operative, see this as he is blocking video and cell reception in the area. He is a current Mossad officer named Michael Rivkin.

"I highly debate that, Agent Callen. Let Gibbs know he is on to something that will change both our countries. Shalom."

"Shalom. I'll be seeing you later, Ari."

"No, you will not Agent Callen." Ari says ask he walks off. Callen then looks at his phone as Ari walks into a crowd and it is restored to working order. A call comes in.

"Yeah, it's Callen."

The older women on the end of the call scolds, "When you are in the field Agent Callen you are to never turn off you phone."

"Sorry, Hetty. Won't happen again. So what's the case."

"What makes you think there is a case?"

"Well, it's Sunday and I am on vacation for the next three weeks. What's up?"

"We have a problem. You needs to come in." says Hetty in OSP operations with Eric Beale and Nell.

"On my way. I hope hazard apay isn't involved. Because the director will not like me. "

"Callen, it's the director that wants you to come in."

Callen hangs up, and gives a puzzled and relieved look.

In her office in Norfolk Jenny Shepard is looking at a story on a hit syle assasination of three people in southern Louisana. She remembers back to her first assignment of being tasked to kill three Russian operative, involving her pairing with William Decker and Jethro Gibbs. She let her mark go, but the others did their duty. It was soon after this her father 'died' when he was accused of taking bribes from an arms dealer know as Le Grenouille. Then there is a knock at the door, and it opens. She sees a familier face.

"Ziva what are you doing here? I thought you were in Bahrain?"

"I will make this short, Jen. I'm here on the behalf of Mossad. We're here to track a terroist cell that may have infiltrated...Mossad."

"Who is involved?" Jenny asks.

"We have a few suspects, but it also may be the mole that NCIS is looking for. E are not sure yet. "

"So is this official or unoffical."

"We are working on that as well. I am part of an advance team to secure the information. It will be sent to you shortly by my father."

"Well...director David is overseeing this. We should be ready. I'll contact Leon."

"It's already done. Director Vance is aware. He and my father have a complicated past."

"Yes...well I will be in Washinton in the morning to see him."

"I have to disagree. Leon just e-mailed me. You are to stay here, per you fathers orders." as Jenny lies to Ziva.

"I see. Well, we also know you are on this case so we will need to see you progress."

"Certainly." as Jenny opens up about the case.

"The Ulman threat is ready to review. We know what happened with the Israili soldier. We are truly sorry."

"Yes. Can we get on with this?" Ziva demands softly.

"All business. We lets get to it Officer David."

After he review with Jenny, Ziva makes her way to Washington anway and goes to the one person who she thinks will help her out with the dilemma of what Jenny and Mossad found is the mole, traitor, leak, and legend.

As Leroy Jethro Gibbs is in his basement clearing a spce for new wooodworking projects he sees a familier face walk down his basement stairs.

"Ziva?"

She gets to the bottom and looks at him and says, "Yes. I am back. But for work."

"Yeah, that deos happen from time to time." Gibbs says as he goes over and considers pouring a drink but then doesn't.

"What do you want Ziva?"

"I need to talk...with you about..."

"Your brother..." he says sharply.

"Yes." she starts and then walks around nevous as if she is not sure how to ask.

"I came to you since you know what it is like to lose memories and regain them over time."

"Yeah..." as Gibbs replies wanting her to get to the point.

"What I know of my brother is that he would never hurt someone innocent. If I have a brother...and only if...I believe he was the one responsible for Special Agent Caitlin Todd's death."

"Well, you weren't there." Gibbs replies with anger in his voice.

"I know. But, I know my brother. And I also know who is the mole and traitor in out midst. But...I don't want to believe it."

"I...have my own thoughts on that. But back to Ari. Ya really think he didn't kill Kate?"

"I..I..don't know...anymore. I don't know who...who to trust and...who to..." as she starts to tear up.

"Ziva..." as he goes to her, "the only one you can trust is yourself. Anything else...it's not important."

Taken aback she asks, "So you believe that Ari's brother..."

"Nope." As Gibbs walks over to his bech and ours a drink for himself. "I still think Ari killed Kate, and shot into Abby's lab. His brother was sent to die."

Ziva beginning to compse herself, realizes what Gibbs is saying. "So what do we do?

"Well..." as he sips his drink, "you'll have to trust me." As he points to the files on his bench on who the mole is.

As Anthony DiNozzo settles into his apartment, he looks back and looks at the file on his table revealing the leak. He doesn't want to believe wht his computer tech Keating has found, but he isn't sure. Then he hears a ring of his buzzer as he listens to the song "No Matter What" by Jakob Dylan.

He answers the door and thinks its one of his team, but is shocked who it is.

"Ziva?"

"Tony...we need to talk."

At first Tony is unsure but then lets her in, holding her as she has been crying.
