Chapter Twenty-one: Some Crimes can be Big Trouble.
Lucki was sleeping when a noise from downstairs woke her up. She checked her phone for the time, which say it was two in the morning.
"Seriously?!" She muttered under her breath as she got up from her bed as quietly as she could.
"I'm going to skin some kat when I get my claws on them..." Lucki growled under her breath as she opened the door quietly, but she was grabbed by the wrist.
"Let go!" The she-kat hissed out as the grabby kat struggled to keep a hold on her. However, she was heard by the live-in nurse, who exited her room and had a flashlight in her hand.
When the light hit Lucki and the grabber, Lucki saw the form of the grabber, who was a tom kat with beige tom kat with dark hair and bared fangs.
"Get your paws off of her, you flea-bitten dog!" Sandy's voice rang out to the trasspassing kat, who stopped upon hearing Sandy's yell.
Lucki took the chance of escaping from the grip of the intruder and twisted her wrist out of the tom kat's hand, and that took the grabby kat by surprise. Once out of his grip, Lucki swung a punch at the tom kat, who was quick to duck.
"Ow!" Lucki exclaimed in pain upon her fist hitting the wall, since Lucki hit the part of the wall that had a wooden beam behind it for support.
"Lucki!" A concerned Sandy called out to the injured she-kat, and that allowed the trasspassing tom to attack the in-home nurse.
Lucki's grandfather, having heard all of noise, ran out of his room and demanded in a sleeply and angry tone, "Right now, there's better be an emergency, or it's going to be!"
"Back off, you old fart!" The tom swung at Sandy first before hissing at the elderly kat.
Lucki heard this and muttered in pain, "That idiot just signed his death certificate."
Sandy gasped; the last time a kat was so bold to insult the oldest member of the Whitefang family, the insulting tom kat was sent to the hospital, and the old kat was sent to jail for a month, thanks to the brilliance of a nephew that was also a lawyer.
"Are you talking to me?" Lucki's grandfather asked in a tone of cold fury, which was compareable to one of a professional assassin, and the bold tom was quick enough to say, "Are you just deaf or just plain stu-!"
The tom kat did not get to finish his sentense, since he was hit in the face by the old tom's cane, which looked like it was made of wood, but it was actually made of metal. The intruder back away and started to run downstairs, hoping to escape Lucki's grandfather and his pain-inducing cane.
Lucki, having recovered quickly, went after the retreating tom, however her grandfather was quick to say, "Get back here! Lucki!"
Sadly for the old kat, Lucki was too focused on catching the tom kat, who was running much faster than the average kat. However, Lucki saw this as a challage and quickened her pace.
By the time that she was pulled herself from the thrill of the chase, Lucki had followed the guy out of the house and into the woods that was nearby the house. To make things worse for Lucki, she had lost sight of the guy. This was not a good situation to be in, and Lucki knew that very well.
"Oh, crud..." The foolish and lost she-kat muttered under her breath while trying make that she was not defenseless against the intruder, should he decide to attack her.
Looking around, Lucki tried to see the tom kat, but with the darkness of the forest and the only light that was there was the light of the moon, she was having a hard time seeing the guy and her way back to her grandfather's house.
"Oh, crud..." Lucki repeated herself for a few more times before she heard a twig snap in the distance.
"What was that?" Lucki hopped from the direction of the snap, and she stood still for a few moments before she thought it was safe to move again.
When she could, the young she-kat started off running again, but this time, she was trying to run back to her grandfather's home. However, she was grabbed by the trasspasser, and he was not planning on letting her go that time.
"I've finally caught you, my Angel!" The tom kat hissed darkly, and that was scary for Lucki, since she was Angel of the SWAT Kats.
"What are you talking about!?" Lucki hissed back, trying not to show her great shock.
"You don't know?" The tom kat asked, sounding confused in his dark-toned voice, but he spoke again while losing his confusion, "You're a very special kat, Sandy."
"That's enough!" Lucki lost her temper upon hearing her real name and threw an uppercut with her injured right hand.
While the power of the punch was enough to get the crazed tom kat off of her, Lucki was reminded that her right hand was still wounded from impacting her fist into a wall.
"Ow!" Yowled the she-kat gripped her aching hand, while the insane kat recovered from the punch to the face.
"Now, why would you do something like that?" The crazed tom kat asked while Lucki recovered from the pain in her hand.
Then, a booming sound echoed throughout the woods, and the next thing Lucki knew was the the insane kat was in a net that was latch onto a nearby tree. Lucki was confused for a moment before she heard someone answer out to the trapped kat.
"That's because she's not me, Matt!"
"Sandy?" Lucki's mind was spinning in confusion, but she was able to follow that Sandy and her grandfather had followed her into the woods.
"Lucki!" The eldest of the Whitefang clan hurried out to his granddaughter, who was more than happy to see him, and Lucki called out, "Grandpa!"
The two hugged each other for a few moments before the lone nurse coughed out to them, "We've still got the creep to deal with!"
"OH!" Both memebers of the Whitefang clan reacted and turned to the trapped kat and the tree that he was held on to, and Lucki laughed at herself, "Sorry 'bout that."
"Same here." The old kat sheepishly grinned at Sandy, who shook her head in disbelief at them.
"Seriously?"
"Very much." Lucki shared in her grandfather's embarrassed smile, and she noticed something with the trapped kat and called out, "What's that guy up to?"
Sandy and Lucki's grandfather whirled around and noticed the movement of the netted kat, who had managed to free one of his hands from the net. Then, they saw that the kat was using the claws on the freed hand scratching at the net.
"Stop him!" Sandy shouted out, causing the trapped tom kat to stop for a moment before returning to his attempt at escaping the net.
"I've got it!" Lucki's grandfather pulled out a small gun and fired at the escaping tom kat, who was hit on the shoulder with the tranquilizer dart.
"What the...?" The kat known as Matt slurred his words as the sediative quickly started to take effect on him.
"Nighty-night!" The old feline sighed out, grateful that the whole thing was finally over. He turned to Lucki and Sandy with a tired expression on his face and announced, "I'm going back to bed, and there better be an emergency, if you're planning on waking me up before nine in the morning!"
After hearing that, Lucki and Sandy looked at each other and started to giggle at the old kat's action. They knew very well that the eldest of the Whitefang clan had been a part of Mega War II, making him a veteren in his own right.
"Knocking out an 'enemy,' and he's off to bed." Sandy laughed out, knowing that Matt was not going to wake up for some time.
"Right!" Lucki wiped away a tear from her eye before she tried to get her cell phone, only to remember that she was in her pajamas. That realization caused her to exclaim, "Oh, crud!"
"You've forgot your phone again?" Sandy did not really need to ask, but she thought it would be a good question to ask.
"Yeah!" Lucki was upset at that point at herself more than being mistakened for her grandfather's live-in nurse.
"Thankfully, I've brought mine." Sandy was bold to announce to Lucki, who was starting to become even more annoyed with Sandy's words.
"Then, you call the police." Lucki growled out, trying not to snap at Sandy, who did that while knowing that Lucki was upset and going to be for a little while.
In the following morning, Lucki and Sandy were feeling very groggy from the lack of sleep, when they received a visitor, and she was not want they wanted to deal with at eight in the morning.
"What happened!?" Gabrielle demanded to know from Lucki, since the rich she-kat believed that Lucki was responsible for the situation, "Is my father all right?!"
Lucki was annoyed with her aunt's willingness to blame her for every bad thing that happens to and at the oldest member of the Whitefang clan. Despite her ire towards her aunt, Lucki managed to answer the 'questions' of her aunt.
"Grandpa's doing fine; he's also trying to sleep right now."
"I'd bet!" Gabrielle refused to believe that Lucki was guiltless of being the one that allowed the trasspasser into her father's property.
However, Gabrielle heard a yell from upstairs that prove that Lucki was telling the truth about the elderly Whitefang.
"GABRIELLE ANNE! YOU'D BETTER BE HERE FOR JUST ME AND NOT BLAMING LUCKI FOR WHATEVER YOU THINK SHE'S DONE RIGHT, OR I'M COMING DOWN THERE TO PUT YOU OVER MY KNEE!"
"Yes, sir..." Gabrielle withdrew, knowing that her father was not making an idle threat.
Lucki could barely contain her smile upon seeing her aunt's quick retreat, but she was not foolish enough to show her glee and to express her thoughts about the sight.
"Besides," Sandy stepped forward, "the creep was my ex-boyfriend!"
"Oh..." Lucki's aunt stated, disappointed that she was not right about who was at fault from the trasspassing tom kat.
Then, Lucki's cell phone rang, and she quickly answered it. However, she barely said, "Hello," when Goemon's voice rang out in a frantic flurry into the she-kat's ear.
"Lucki! I've just watched the news, and you were involved with the situation! Why didn't you call me or the others!?"
"I don't have to answer to you, Go-Kun." Lucki replied coldly, "Besides, you should keep your voice down; Grandpa's trying to sleep."
The snobby aunt was quick to remark about Lucki's friendship with Goemon.
"Well, it's Lucki's little foreign-exchange pal... How desperate does one have to be to try to woo the youngest son of a high-class family?"
"I don't know." Sandy glared at Gabrielle's direction upon hearing the rude statement, "Why don't you asked the woman in the mirror?"
"No comments from the peanut gallery." Gabrielle snidely retroted at the nurse.
"Same from the peanut field." Lucki managed to defend herself from her aunt before Goemon pulled her back to the conversation.
"Whatever..." Gabrielle huffed, knowing that she was losing that fight.
Gabrille did not make another comment until her father came down to see her and the other girls in the house.
"Now, what's all of the hub-bub?" The elderly Whitefang climbed down the stairs.
"Well,-" Gabrielle started to speak, but her father was quick to say, "And don't you blame the whole thing on Lucki, especially since Matt was Sandy's ex."
"How did you know about that?" The rich kat asked, looking very confused.
"Sandy told me." Lucki's grandfather bluntly stated, as if it was the most obivious thing to say in the whole world.
"She told you?" Gabrielle was dumbfounded at that point, since Sandy was very secretive about her past.
"It was strange for me as well." Lucki's grandfather admitted, "but I'm as pleased as punch to see that Sandy's past is not in control over her life!"
Lucki, who managed to end the phone call with Goemon, could not help herself from smiling as she watched her father change from a seldom expression to one that was filled with glee and pride. She also recalled when Sandy first came to her grandfather's house; she was a shy kat with her ears folded down for most of the time, but over time, Sandy's confidence grew to the point that was rarely folds her ears.
Lucki was also proud of Sandy's progress from shy to confident, however Gabrielle, who viewed Sandy as 'just the help,' was not moved at all by Sandy's blight.
"She's supposed to get over it!"
"Like how you were supposed to get over your sister having a better and happier life than you?" Lucki snapped her aunt, who was angered by the younger she-kat's words.
"How dare you!?" The older kat hissed out, but she was stopped by her father.
"Hold on, Gabby! I'll take care of this."
"Uh, no..." Lucki muttered under her breath, knowing that she said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
"Lucki," the elderly Whitefang developed a tone of a stern parent, "I know that you're very good at telling the truth, but that doesn't excuse the fact that what you've just said was wrong."
"Yes, sir." Lucki's ears folded back in shame.
"Besides," Lucki's grandfather grabbed his granddaughter by the arm and pulled her to him before saying in a hush voice, "that was what Sandy's supposed to say, anyway."
"Oh! Right!" Lucki stated, realizing that she stepped up against Gabrielle too soon.
Then, Lucki's cell phone rang out again, and the she-kat answered the phone. This time, it was Jack Clawson, and he was just as worried about her as Goemon was.
"Good grief..." Lucki eyed her blue eyes as Jack expressed his concern about the female feline in a similar manner as the Nekoese tom's.
"Lucki, are you all right?! Why didn't you call me about this!?"
"Dude," Lucki spoke in response, "I'm fine. No one got hurt besides Matt!"
"Who's Matt?!"
"The guy that broke into Grandpa's house."
As Lucki argued with Jack, Gabrielle wanted to make a snide comment about Lucki, but she wisely kept quiet, knowing that her father would defend the younger she-kat from her.
The house phone rang out, and that surprised Gabrielle more than the others of the house.
"I'll answer it." Sandy exited the room, leaving her patient and his stunned daughter.
"You still have a house phone, Father?"
"Yes," Lucki's and Gabrielle's elder answered, "and so do some of my closest friends, since we share a theory that cell phones cannot reach everywhere."
"Bye, Jack." Lucki hung up on the son of the mayor of Megakat City and breathed in a sigh of relief.
"That guy worries too much..."
"That's a good sign of a good friend." Lucki's grandfather smiled at his grown-up ward.
"I can think of something else..." Gabrielle muttered under her breath, still fearful of her father's ire.
"Lucki," Sandy re-entered the room, looking at the blond-brunette she-kat, "there's a call from you."
"Who could it be?" Lucki scratched her head in confusion before she left the room to take the call.
Once Lucki was out of earshot, Gabrielle was quick to snidely say, "I wonder who it could be?"
"Watch it, Gabby." The grandfather of Lucki warned his daughter, and that caused her to become quiet about her thoughts about her neice.
"SERIOUSLY?!" Lucki's voice rang out, making the other adults jump from the suddeness of the shout.
"What was that about?" Sandy asked the other two, who was just as confused about the situation with Lucki's yell.
"I don't know." Gabrielle shrugged her shoulders, "However, who'd make her so angry?"
"It has to be Geomon." Lucki's grandfather laughed, "He's the only one that I know of who can anger that girl so quickly!"
"KYLE!" Lucki yelled again, "YOU LOOKED UP MY GRANDPA'S NUMBER!?"
Upon hearing the second shout, the old tom kat laughed again, but at himself that time as he said, "Then again, I've been wrong before."
"About a lot of things..." Gabrielle muttered under her breath, but it was not quiet enough to hide from her father's ears.
"You know why I'm not trusing you with my estate, Gabby, and please, do not being it up again!"
Gabrielle fell silent for the time being, knowing that she had to bide her time until Lucki makes a mistake in the elder Whitefang's eyes...
