"Sorry I'm late." My best friend pulls me from my thoughts as she bends down to kiss my cheek. "Have you been waiting long? And thanks for the drink. What is it, coffee?"

"Better, hot chocolate."

"Oh, how I love you. How are you?"

"I'm good. Work's kind of busy, as it usually is this time of year, but it's okay. And I...I kind of met someone."

It's silly because nothing really happened. Except for the fact that he had made my heart flutter a bit.

He had been so attentive and charming during our conversation over coffee. The fact alone that he would invite me around for a cup just because I helped him find a book—for doing my job—was just so sweet. And he's such a great conversationalist. The hour we spent sitting in that coffee shop seemed to fly. When we got up to leave and go our separate ways, I couldn't help but feel sad that it was over. It was only when I got home that I noticed the little card with his number in my pocket. He must have slipped me it when he helped me into my coat.

It's been three weeks and two phone calls since then. We tried to meet up for another coffee date since then, but with the holiday season coming up and him working in advertising and me owning my own small shop, real life kind of got in the way.

"No way. Tell me all about him. But first, I kinda met someone, too. I actually brought him along. He's just trying to find a parking spot." She takes a sip from her mug. "We met a few weeks ago when he started working in Dad's firm, but we've only been on one date so far. Last night. He's delicious. And so well mannered and charming. You're going to like him."

Just for putting that sparkle into her eyes and that smile upon her face, I would like this guy. If there was one thing Rose was worse at than me, it was meeting a nice guy.

"Edward!" She's laughing, waving at someone behind me.

I turn in my seat, thinking how funny a coincidence it would be—

Then I see him, and he sees me. Eyes go wide, smiles fall. Well, mine falls. His turns even wider.

Rose jumps up from her seat. "Forgot to make an important call. Be right back. Introduce yourselves!"

"Bella, how lovely to finally see you again. What are the chances that the first friend I made in this town turns out to be my favorite co-worker's best friend. How are you?

Friend.

I avert my eyes and take a drink from my cup. But not even the sweetness of the cocoa can overpower the bitter taste in my mouth.

Are you guys still with me? Only 4 more to go. Here's to hoping that I will make it :)
