~~~~~~~ Next Morning~~~~~~~~~
Jenna managed to get back to sleep only after she'd kept herself awake for half the night to prevent any more nightmares. Her dreamless sleep was broken by a familiar human voice, "Everything is healing up nicely, her foot still has some swelling but that will go down if she keeps off it."
Opening her eyes she saw June Darby gently pressing on her foot for tenderness, "That's my fault, I was walking around last night."
"Yes I heard you took a little stroll, if I had known you'd be eager to get up I would have brought these crutches sooner." June directed her attention to the right wall where a set of crutches had been set up.
Sitting up and stretching Jenna smiled at the older woman, "Thank you for all your help. I'm sure it wasn't a very nice surprise to be called here to tend to a human no one knows anything about."
"You got that right. Optimus told me you talked to him about what happened. He's waiting with all the others, he's going to tell us everything but he wants you present before starting. Do you think you can handle that?" Jenna wanted to cling onto June and never let go. Mina had been concerned about her when they were briefly together but Jenna had believed she'd never receive the warmth from her parents or boyfriend again. June stood as a representation of hope for her to get back that affection.
"With those crutches I'll be a lot better than I was last night." June smiled at her patient's good humour and gave her the crutches.
It took a second to get used to but Jenna was able to get moving down the hall in a minute. Entering the main hanger during the day when it was full with bots and people was entirely different from her sight of it at night with Optimus as her audience. Miko spotted her first since she was on the floor practicing on her guitar. "Whoa! Intruder alert!"
Jenna gave Miko a bright shiny smile, "Thanks for the introduction." Miko put down her guitar and circled around Jenna with narrowed eyes as if to analyze her. After a full circle and a nod she smiled herself, "Okay you're cool. So what's your story?"
"I will be telling Jenna's story Miko. We are waiting for one more to appear first." Optimus had come over at Miko's announcement.
Jenna looked around the room and did a head count. All the Autobots were present and staring at her, and all the humans (Miko and June excluded) were up on the platform also staring down at her. "Who are we still waiting for?"
"WheelJack here I'm ready for pick up."
"Oh." It hadn't crossed Jenna's mind to consider WheelJack a part of the whole team, she always saw him as a lone wolf character that helped out the main group once in a while. Like the Green Power Ranger from the original series. 'Okay you got to be cool around him, be cool and he'll like you. Do not fangirl all over him or any chance of a friendship is destroyed.'
As WheelJack came through the ground bridge Jenna had to bite down on her lower lip to not squeal like a dork. "Didn't miss anything did I?" WheelJack glanced down to the human; he wasn't sure what to make of her small tight smile.
"I have not started WheelJack as we were waiting for you and for Jenna." Optimus copied Ratchet's previous action and offered his hand to Jenna and June to lift them up to the platform. With them settled he took a position that would allow him to speak with everyone in his sight. "This is Jenna Wygergangs, she was a prisoner of the Decepticons a short time ago. The Decepticons took her from her home because she is a carrier of relic energy."
"But Optimus, she's human. A Cybertronian would be more believable." SmokeScreen pointing out the obvious was ignored as Ratchet retrieved the hand held detector and pointed it in Jenna's direction. Optic ridges stretched above their brows as the needle repeated its performance the night before and went from one end to the other once it was facing Jenna.
Miko tentatively reached out and poked Jenna in the arm right where Megatron had given her one of her worst bruises. Hissing and pulling her arm away Jenna pulled up the sleeve to show the problem. Seeing the large fading bruise Jack, Miko and Raf looked to Ms. Darby. Agent Fowler stepped closer to examine the bruise; something about the bruise must have looked familiar to him because his eyes met Jenna's. She answered the unspoken question with a nod; Fowler turned to June and asked her in a quiet voice that was still heard by everyone, "How bad?"
"Bad." Was the given response.
"What's the rest of the story Prime?" Agent Fowler stood ready to rip Optimus a new one. Jack, Miko and Raf were confused, they didn't know what they'd missed.
Regret showed through Optimus' face and voice, "During her captivity with the Decepticons Jenna endured interrogation, for the energy stored within her has granted her knowledge of many things connected to Cybertron. Which was how she knew to reach out to you WheelJack in order to escape."
WheelJack crossed his arms and scowled down at Jenna, "Right, so how long until the Decepticons storm this place?"
"I didn't tell them anything!" She expected this from one of the bots, Arcee or SmokeScreen, but being accused of tattling from WheelJack hurt her a bit.
"And how do we know that for certain? You're a human with no protective armour or encryption systems in your mind. For all we know they squeezed every ounce of information about us out of you in less than an hour." WheelJack took a step closer to press down on her with his height, he couldn't trust this human. The only human he had come to accept was Miko and that was because she'd proven herself.
Optimus put a hand on WheelJack's chest to push him back, "That is enough WheelJack."
"No he needs proof and I'll show him proof. Jack, Raf, Agent Fowler would you mind closing your eyes or looking the other way?" June saw where this was going, she didn't altogether approve but did understand that an example needed to be made. Putting herself in front of Jack and Raf to block their view she glared at Agent Fowler. Not needing any further instruction he put a hand over his eyes and faced the other way.
That area of concern dealt with Jenna put down her crutches and removed her shirt and pants (thankfully June had let her keep her bra and underwear.) Miko glanced away not sure of what she was allowed to see. Keeping her foot from touching the floor Jenna held out her arms so everything was visible, "Does this look like I told them anything?" Her upper right arm, left knee, the middle of her chest and her ribs were covered in dark large bruises made from the energon prods.
WheelJack accessed the damage, from his time spent on Earth he'd learned how vulnerable humans were. The marks on her body spoke of either one long interrogation or two short brutal ones. He still wasn't convinced, "Those don't prove anything expect how much you took until you talked. The Decepticons don't know the meaning of mercy, if you didn't tell them anything then you'd be missing an arm at least."
"Did you not just hear Optimus tell you that I'm a relic? Megatron isn't so glitched in the head that he would damage something he could use." Jenna couldn't believe WheelJack was fighting with her over her honesty when she was showing him the proof.
"I heard and I saw the detector show it too. But until I get a little one on one time with Megatron himself I'm not believing anything. It's just too convenient for the human that knows everything about us to be handed to us. You got out of that war ship real easy, you would have needed help. And the only help provided would have come from the Cons." The other Autobots saw reason with what WheelJack was saying, Arcee and BulkHead had both been within Decepticon territory and had only escaped through the aid of others.
Optimus had not spoken of Mina in his altered version so she wasn't sure if he wanted to keep her presence quiet, Jenna didn't care she needed her name cleared in front of these bots or they would never trust her. "I did get help to escape. My best friend Mina helped me. She's another human relic like me, her intelligence and her loyalties are different...I don't know if she'll ever trust me again but I still trust her with all my spark. She got me out of my prison and snuck me into KnockOut while he was asleep." In the process of her rant/explanation Jenna put on her clothes so the boys could fully participate.
June had heard nothing about another girl until this moment, "Your friend is still with those monsters? Why didn't she escape with you if she was able to free you?" She'd put her hands on Jenna's shoulders so the younger woman would give her an honest answer.
Jenna wasn't ready to explain this, at this point any explanation given would be dismissed. Shrugging off June's hands Jenna muttered, "I don't know." She wanted to be alone, she wanted to scream and cry but not in front of them. Not in front of the Autobots that she wanted to be friends with. Tears earn pity.
Getting her crutches she moved to the stairs, "I need to lie down, I'm not feeling well." Her voice was flat with no emotion.
"Running away doesn't answer the question. I was there, I saw your so called friend and she didn't move an inch in our direction. She called for their get-away ground bridge. Your friend is working for the Decepticons isn't she? What proof can you give that shows you're not just their spy?" WheelJack watched as the human femme paused at the edge of the stairs, as WheelJack spoke her shoulders tensed and her fists clutched tighter to the crutches.
Jack, Miko and Raf were positioned at the right angle for them to see her expression. What they saw was frightening and painful.
Jenna turned that expression on WheelJack causing him to take a small step back, "You can believe what you want, but do not use one person's choice as a means to demoralize your thoughts of another...Fragging glitch jerk, don't know what I even liked about him." Her last comments were muttered in low growls that the bots alone could hear as Jenna said them while going down the stairs and out of the human's hearing range.
No one moved to follow after her they just watched as she hobbled down the stairs and back to her room. All eyes and optics turned to WheelJack, their thoughts varying from 'Did you really need to do that?' to 'What is your problem?' WheelJack turned his optics to Optimus, "I stand by my reasoning, I'm not going to trust the human just because of that sob story. And I request to remain here until she's gone, I'm not letting that girl get away with anything."
Optimus saw no deceit from anything Jenna had said or done, he trusted the human. His teammates seemed to be uncertain of her no thanks to the words WheelJack employed against her. It was clear to him that the only way for harmony to return to the base was for WheelJack and Jenna to make peace. "Request granted, under the condition that Jenna may be able to prove herself."
WheelJack was certain that the human would leave before earning his trust, "Fine."
"Great just what this place needs, another wrecker to destroy my equipment." Ratchet threw his hands up in the air in defeat. He'd just gotten BulkHead down to breaking one thing every other week, with WheelJack around to encourage him the damage would go up to twice a week.
"Take it easy SunShine, just cause I'm staying a couple nights doesn't mean I'm staying cooped up in here. I need to check on the Jack Hammer to make sure the Decepticons don't find it. The old thing needs some sprucing up too."
"You're going to stick around long enough to show me some cool stuff with your swords right? Cause those things are wicked!" Miko was still bothered by the drama she'd witnessed but that wouldn't keep her from asking the important questions. Jack shook his head along with his mom. Raf was just as enthralled about sword fighting as Miko.
WheelJack smirked at the question; it was easy to see why BulkHead liked this human. "No problem kid, I'll show you a few things first thing tomorrow."
"At a safe distance of course?" June ignored the eye roll from Miko and held onto the rogue Autobot's attention.
"Uh, of course." WheelJack wouldn't argue with a femme-creator no matter what species she was, they gave him the chills when angry.
