"Sir," she says.
Damn that word. He thought that nothing could pull him out the powerful sharing, but it turns out that that word he's hated for so long can.
"Carter," he says putting some distance.
"They left," she points out.
"Good for them," he says.
"Sir, I'm not sure we should be left alone right now," she says.
"You're probably right," he says, but she catches the 'for now' inside of his head.
In the kitchen, Teal'c and Daniel are having tea. It's one of Teal'c's favorite Earth things. The rest of SG-1 are not actually fans. Usually they drink beer as he enjoys tea, but Daniel often humored him when it was just the two of them.
"So, are you done?" Daniel asks teasingly.
Sam glances nervously at Jack. "We're not quite in agreement about what to do with all of that, so we'd appreciate you staying quiet about it for the time being," Jack says.
"Of course," Daniel says.
"Teal'c," Jack says, offering an arm for the manly handshake/hug common to the Jaffa.
Teal'c comes forward, and their foreheads touch.
Jack expected something much like what it had been with Daniel or Charlie. He expected maybe less, after all, they had been family. Even though Teal'c had claimed brotherhood with Jack several times, he really wasn't kin to the man.
But Teal'c had a lot to share. He was old, and silent. So a hundred of years of quiet wisdom and unexpressed emotion washed like a powerful wave. Jack didn't feel as if he was offering very much in return.
Jack pulled away, "My brother," Teal'c says with a slight smile playing on his face. Teal'c is trying to downplay his pain that Jack never believed, never even understood, what it meant when he declared him brother.
"I'm sorry, brother," Jack replies, with all the seriousness of his Jaffa counterpart.
Teal'c mutters, "We were both unfortunate enough to be without siblings."
"Not anymore," Jack says with a smile, "Hey, Danny boy, you're willing to take another son into the fold?"
"He's always been family," Daniel says, looking at the form in front of him, "But I don't know if I can manage 'son'."
"And Sam?" Teal'c asks, "Is she a part of this family?"
"Not yet," Jack replies.
Sam grins at him, and it feels like it's settled for the first time in a long time.
Note: It's done now. I'll leave exactly how it's worked out to your imagination. I couldn't decide whether to keep it cannon compliant, or leave that and just give Sam and Jack a quick happily ever after. Then I realized I've written both those endings ad nausium. To add another word would be to repeat.
