Champion vs. Creator Part 1
We finally got to the top where a grunt was waiting. "I don't think you all won 10 star chips."Mai, Yugi, Joey and I all showed our gloves containing 10 star chips each. The grunt grumbled as Mai put her chips in the door and pushed it open. The 4 of us went inside, but the guard didn't let the others in. "You don't even have gloves!" "But you have to let us in. We're the cheerleaders!" Tea exclaimed as she jumped up. "What do you think this is, a high school football game? No star chips, no entry." Tristan was about to do something I'm sure he'd regret. "I got this." I pulled out a red and white ball. "Lopunny, Attract!" A big fuzzy brown bunny with yellow at her paws and the tips of her ears appeared. "Lopunny, Lupunn." Attract worked for a few seconds. "Hey get back here!" "Okay then...Lopunny, Dizzy Punch!" I yelled. "Lopunny! Lopunny!" Lopunny hit the grunt and then ran inside with the rest of us. "Shut the door!" And the boys did.
"I'm liking this girl more by the minute!" Mai said, looking straight at me. "Why thank you. Lopunny, return." "Lop."
"There's no time to waste. The sooner we find Pegasus, the better," "Right." We all said as we ran through the halls. We ran up to a balcony where we saw Bandit Keith. "Well if it isn't big tough Joey and his crew of Duelin' Dummies." I growled and went at him when Danny held me back. Joey called him a 'sleaze ball' for trapping us in the cave. "And we're both ready to fight!" I yelled at Keith, though I was unavailable for a fight at the moment... Another grunt entered the balcony. "Welcome finalists. I am Croquet the chief tournament liaison. Before we start the finals, we have a very special surprise. If you'd direct your attention to the hall," We all looked down and saw Kaiba, standing on a walkway. I let out a low growl. You are not helping. I cannot let you go till you calm down. I huffed but Danny finally let me go. On the account that I wasn't going to attack Kaiba...yet.
Croquet told us this match will give us an idea of what's in store. Mai said, "Then it's meant to intimidate us." Croquet innocently asked why Pegasus would do something like that. I answered, "Because he's a grade-A nutcase." Croquet just told us to enjoy the match, and left. I growled again.
How bad is he?
Worse than Doc. Doom.
That bad?!
Yes that bad! He stole Yugi's grandpa's soul and Mokuba's!
How do you know that?
During Yugi's duel with Kaiba I kinda read Kaiba's mind. I don't trust the guy, Danny.
I understand. So how bad's Kaiba?
Not as bad as Doc. Doom, but still bad.
Could you give me an estimate?
I don't know...Venom maybe.
Okay then...
The door at the opposite end of the walkway opened, and Pegasus made a grand entrance, flanked by two of his goons. Kaiba demanded to know where Mokuba was, but Pegasus put him off, and called Kaiba an old friend. "Did kidnapping Mokuba and seizing control of Kaiba Corp. put a rift between us. It was nothing personal, and besides, you can have Mokuba back if you beat me in a duel." "Forget grade-A nutcase, he's plain psycho!" Pegasus looked over at me. "I do not enjoy being called names." "To bad!" I yelled. Kaiba looked over in disbelief when he saw Yugi. Yay!
How is that 'yay'?
I LUV torturing the guy.
... The Millennium Eye glinted through Pegasus' platinum hair, Pegasus said that one little victory shouldn't be a problem for the Duel Monsters world champion.
Pegasus' Millennium Eye will make beating him a big problem, even for Kaiba.
Why do you say that?
It seems the Millennium Eye, as well as steal souls, can read minds.
That would make it quite difficult.
"I can't believe I'm sayin this, but I don't want Kaiba to lose." Joey said. "I still think Kaiba's a first-class jerk, but I know Kaiba's just trying to get his little brother back." I commented. "Anyone who stands up to Pegasus can't be all bad." Tristan agreed. Yugi, too, thought that nothing could be more noble than fighting for someone you love. He just hoped Kaiba has learned to fight with his heart, as well as his head.
"I wish Kaiba and Pegasus could both lose. But if Pegasus loses, he might end the tournament, we'd lose our chance to defeat him." Tea said. "Yes, then let's watch Kaiba lose!" I said in a cheerful voice. I heard Espeon snicker in the background. "Latara!" Danny snapped at me. "You should never wish harm on your enemies." "And yet I still do." I then heard Espeon burst out in laughter.
Pegasus told Kaiba it's gauche to leave him in suspense, especially with an audience in the wings. Pegasus also told Kaiba he's been looking forward to this duel for quite some time.
Kaiba opened his briefcase, got out his Duel Disks and tossed one to Pegasus, saying he should have no problem dueling with it. Pegasus looked it over like it was some strange outer-space contraption, and said he doesn't even know how it works. "Do I spin it like a top, or roll it like a ball?" He sent it rolling down the walkway, his two goons chased after it.
Kaiba was not amused. Pegasus then said he'll use Kaiba's system as long as Kaiba will agree to allow someone else to operate the Duel Disk on Pegasus's behalf. Pegasus promised he'd make all the strategic decisions, and the gameplay won't change at all. Kaiba asked why Pegasus wouldn't just fight his own battle for once. Pegasus laughed to himself.
Pegasus claped for his servants to show Kaiba the person who'd play as his pawn. When the person came out it was revealed that it was Mokuba's soulless body, shackled by the wrist to one of Pegasus' goons. "Mokuba!" Kaiba called out. But the boy showed no reaction. "Something's not right." "Mokuba seems hypnotized!" He's not hypnotized...his soul has been stolen...
The goon led Mokuba up the walkway, as Pegasus showed Kaiba the card in which he trapped Mokuba's soul. "Pegasus must have done to Mokuba what he did to Yugi's Grandpa!" Tristan yelled. I sighed. "I'm afraid you're right, Tristan. Mokuba's soul, along with yugi's grandpa's, have been stolen." Pegasus renewed his promise to restore Mokuba's soul if Kaiba wins their duel—but if Kaiba lost, his soul will be forfeited as well.
"I'll crush you, Pegasus!" Kaiba yelled. Which again made Black Canary sound as quiet as a mouse...sorry BC.
Yugi realized why Kaiba was willing to risk everything to win their duel, and decided that he must help Kaiba any way he can.
One of the goons handed Mokuba the Duel Disk, and Pegasus said he'd use Kaiba's invention, but Kaiba's brother will operate it for him. But Kaiba couldn't duel his own brother, even if Mokuba's soul was in another place. He gave in and agreed not to use the Duel Disks. Mokuba was led away, and with a snap of Pegasus' fingers, the walkway split and retracted back into the walls, while a dueling arena descended from the ceiling. We watched in awe as the arena snapped into place between the ends of the walkway "This is what it's all about—the two biggest legends in Duel Monsters going at it." Pegasus and Kaiba took their places at either end of the dueling arena.
Yugi called out to Kaiba that he has to believe in the heart of the cards, but Kaiba didn't appreciate the advice. "Keep out of it." Yugi continued to warn Kaiba that it will take more than strong monsters and clever strategies to win against Pegasus' Millennium Eye. Joey reminded Yugi that Kaiba took five of his Star Chips, but Yugi said he knew what it's like to duel for someone you cares about, and he couldn't live with himself if he held back on anything that could help Kaiba get his brother back. "You're a good duelist, Yugi. But I don't need your help." I doubt that Kaiba.
Kaiba set his deck on the duel field. "Pegasus, I will beat you. And you will undo whatever you did on my brother." "Sure Kaiba-Boy. But if you don't beat me-Your soul is mine!" (Insert Maniacal Laughter Here) "Sure." Kaiba rolled his eyes. He didn't believe in magic. Of course it would really help if he did.
The duel began. Pegasus went first and played a monster in defense and set a card face down. Kaiba drew, and was pleased to see a certain card, which had to be a Blue-Eyes. He set a card face down, then summoned Rude Kaiser (1800 ATK) in attack mode, and attacked Pegasus's defense monster, easily destroying it. (The monster was Toon Alligator, 1600 DEF.)
Pegasus seemed to be stunned by Kaiba's attack, and said he didn't think he has a monster in his deck to compare to Kaiba's creature. But then he drew his next card and smiled. "I seemed to of spoke too soon, Kabia-boy."He summoned Parrot Dragon (2000 ATK). He attacked, but Kaiba activated his face down card, Mesmeric Control, which reduces the Parrot Dragon's attack by 800 points, allowing Rude Kaiser to destroy it.
Again, Pegasus acted as though he thought he was in trouble, but Kaiba didn't buy it. Tristan and the others wondered what was going on—Pegasus was dueling like an amateur. But Joey remembered that this is the way Pegasus acted when he dueled Yugi. He was toying with Kaiba, and Yugi hoped Kaiba catches on before it was too late.
Kaiba knew something was not right. I could see it in his expression. I could tell Danny saw it to. We were both trained in how to read body language. Reading your opponent could help you defeat them. It was obvious that Kaiba knew this was all too easy—Pegasus didn't even seem to be trying. It was as if he knew exactly how Kaiba was going to attack. Oh wait. HE DID!
Kaiba drew. He pulled a card from his hand, but before he could lay it down, Pegasus activated his trap card, Prophecy.
"This card allows me to guess whether the monster your about to play has an attack higher or lower than 2000. If I guess right, I get to take the card." Pegasus explained. "And I not only know it has an attack of 3000. I know it's the Blue Eyes White Dragon!" Kaiba mumbles but handed the card to Pegasus. "Lucky guess." He said. Yugi, Danny and I knew he was using the Millennium Eye. But how could Kaiba beat it?
Pegasus played another face-down card, and set a monster in defense.
Kaiba played Saggi the Dark Clown. He's bound to use Crush Card, which will destroy every monster in Pegasus's deck with an attack greater than 1500. "Pegasus is in for it now!" "Don't count on it—Pegasus has to know it's coming." And Pegasus did.
He activated his covered card, Negative Energy. Which doubled Saggi's attack to 1200.
Since the Crush Card can only be activated with a monster of 1000 attack points or less, its effect fizzled. Kaiba was stunned that Pegasus had the perfect defense set up before Kaiba made his move.
Pegasus claimed it was just a lucky move, then flip summoned his defense monster, the Dark Rabbit (1100 ATK). Thanks to Negative Energy, its attack is also doubled, to 2200 points. The Dark Rabbit attacked and destroyed Saggi the Dark Clown, reducing Kaiba's life points to 1000.
Everyone gasped, and Téa said she'd never seen Kaiba so shaken before. "This is bad. The duel's just started, and Kaiba's already 1000 life points behind. Not to mention that Pegasus barley has a scratch on him!"
Heyyyyyy. So if you have read this far I'd like to thank you So,so,so,so much. It means a lot!
Espeon-Can we just get on with the duel?
Fine. Click here. -
