Kate opened her eyes the next morning when the sound of knocking at the door woke her from her very happy dreams. She yawned and rolled over to find Rick's side of the bed empty. She sat up and wrapped the sheet tightly around her chest. Kate could hear Rick's voice speaking to someone, she just couldn't make out what he was saying. So she waited. When she heard him shut the door a few moments later she decided now was her chance to see what all the early morning comotion was about. Before she had the chance to even climb out of the bed Rick was returning to their room with coffee and food.

"Good morning." He said as he handed her a coffee.

"Good morning." She said taking the offered cup from his hand.

"My orignal plan was to wake you up with the coffee and and pancakes, but since you already awake."

"We could just pretend I was alseep." She said with a smile.

"Ok, but only if you agree to get back in bed and eat them." He suggested.

"I can do that." Kate said as she made her way back to the bed.

Once Kate was nestled back in the bed; Castle handed her the plate he had prepared for her. "So.." Kate started.

"So what?" Castle questioned.

"Do not act like you don't know what I am talking about." She said with a grin.

"Oh, you mean the door this morning?"

"No. I mean the Fed ex driver from three weeks ago." She said sarcastically.

Castle choked on his coffee then turned his attention to the woman beside him. "We really have to work on your sacrasim sweetheart."

"You are going to have to work on my anger manangement if you don't tell me who was at the door." She said.

"It was the waitress from the dinner."

"What?" Kate asked. Kate sat up in the bed and placed her plate on the night stand. "What did she want? How did she know we were here? Did she know who we were?"

"Whoa!" Rick said putting his hands up. "Slow down a second would you?"

Kate took a deep breath, "Sorry." She replied.

"It's ok. She didn't know who I was, but she knew you. She wanted to talk to you. She said it was about your mother." Castle explained.

"What did you tell her?"

"That you would meet her in a hour at the park."

"How did she know it was me? She hasn't me in 12 years almost."

"It's funny I asked her the exact samething." Castle said.

"And what did she say?" Kate asked.

"That she would never forget your eyes. That she has never met another person with eyes that tell their life story like yours do. She said she remembered one night you came in with your mother and your eyes just set the whole room on fire. She said its a look she has never seen in anyone but you." Castle explained.

"This is unbelieveable."

"And yet here we are." Rick said.

Kate made her way over to the closet, grabbing her jeans and white sweter. "What are you going to do?" Castle asked reffering to her choice to meet with the waitress.

"Getting dressed was the plan." She said as she turned to him with a wicked grin.

"What if I don't like your plan?" He questioned moving over towards Kate. When he was standing face to face with her, he grabbed her by the hips and pulled her body into his. Kate eyes never left his as he came in for a kiss. "You can always undo my plan later." She said.

"I like the sound of that." He agreed.

One hour later true to her word Kate was waiting at the park with Rick. They had been sitting there but about five minuets when the waitress approached them. "Kitty." The waitress said.

"Actually it's just Kate now." Kate said as she stood up and shook the woman's hand.

"You sure turned out to be a beauty queen." The waitress said. "My name is Diane. I don't know if you remember me or but I was someone your mother trusted. That is why I am here." The woman explained.

"Thank you for coming." Kate said as she sat back down at the table.

"Who is he?" Diane asked.

"He is someone I trust." Kate replied.

"Well, if she turst you that is good enough for me." Diane said.

"You said you saw my mother six months ago? Tell me." Kate said.

"Honey, I didn't see your mother six months ago. I saw her last week." Diane admitted.

Kate looked as if the air had been knocked out of her lungs. She had thought her mother was alive, but knowing it, hearing it confirmed was something else entirely. Rick reached over and placed his hand on top of Kate's. "Where did you see her?" Rick stepped in for Kate.

"In the woods about the three miles from your cabin. I was on shift at the dinner Monday night. Chrissy, one of the new high school girls that just started walked up to me with a folded piece of paper; and said someone asked me to give you this. So I took it. It was a note telling me to meet her at the place in the woods I told you about." Diane explained.

"What did she say?" Kate questioned.

"At first I didn't know if I was going to go to be honest. Let's face it around here meeting someone in the woods you're as good as dead. But I decided to go. I felt like I owed her that. So I went. She was standing against the tree on the hill, the one that had the rope swing on it you use to swing off all the time."

"The one that made me break my arm when I was 9."

"That's the one." Diane said with a smile. "Anyways, she was standing there with her back to me, and I could tell something was wrong right away. She turned and faced me and I could see she had been crying. I asked her what was wrong, and she said everything. Everything is gone." Diane explained.

Kate's grip on Rick's hand tightned as Diane told her story. "I asked her what happened and she said the past found her. I didn't understand what she ment until you showed up. That night, the last night ever saw her she reached her in her pocket and handed me envelope, and said to me 'when you see my daughter give this to her and tell her I am sorry'. I asked her how she knew I would ever see her daughter and she looked me right in the eyes and said you will. Katie will find the truth and she wont stop until she does, its in her blood." Diane explained. Diane reached into her jacket pocket and laid and envelope down on the table, and pushed it towards Kate. "I beleive this is for you. I hope you find the truth you are looking for." Diane said as she stood and walked away.

Kate's hand trembled as she reached for the wrinkled evelope that was laying on the table. She used her fingers and traced over her mother's handwriting on the front of the letter where it said "Katie."

"Hey, you ok?" Castle asked as he placed his hand on her shoulder.

"I..I um... I don't know." She admitted.

"Let's get out of her Kate." Rick said.

"Yeah, that sounds good." Kate said as she stuffed the letter into her coat pocket.

"
