Tris POV
All too soon my alarm clock goes off. I roll out of bed with a groan and get dressed. Clumsily I stumble to the dinning hall, grab a muffin, and then proceed to the training room. When I get there, I see Christina standing next to a table, arranging the guns.
"Good morning, Chris," I say as I join her at the table.
She looks up. "Yeah, good morning. I can't believe that gun training is still a first day thing. I mean we just got these people who have probably never held a weapon in their life, and all of a sudden we are just going to thrust a loaded gun into their hands?"
I shrug. "When else are they supposed to learn? They have to start somewhere. Besides, no one got hurt last year."
Christina sets down the last gun and grumbles, "I'm just saying."
I quickly finish my muffin and soon the initiates arrive. They stand in a clump in front of us and wait for instruction.
Christina passes out the guns and I start the introduction. "The first thing you will learn today is how to shoot a gun. The second thing is how to win a fight. Thankfully, if you are here, you already know how to get on and off a moving train, so I don't need to teach you that."
After each of the initiates has a gun, I take one for myself. I move in front of a target and take my stance. Hopefully the initiates are paying attention; otherwise this is going to be a long first day. I take my first shot. Not perfectly on target, but close enough. The next two hit the bull's eye and I turn to face the initiates.
"Your turn," Christina states with a bored smirk on her face.
The initiates all take their places in front of their targets and soon the room is filled with sound of multiple guns firing. I turn to Christina.
"So, did you see Will this morning or, are you just completely avoiding each other?" I ask. It would be pretty hard for Christina to avoid him. She and Will live right next to each other like Tobias and I. Then again, I was able to avoid Tobias.
Christina shakes her head. "I saw him this morning, and it was really awkward. We both left our apartments at the same time and practically ran right into each other. He wasn't rude. He addressed me and said good morning and we walked towards the Pit together, but that was it. He just acted like any other neighbor would, not really like a boyfriend." She shrugs and continues to watch the initiates.
I don't add anything. I don't know what to say to her. At this point it's up to her and Will to figure things out, all I can do is stand by my friends.
When it's time to break for lunch, we dismiss the initiates. I notice that some of them wince as they set their guns down and attempt to loosen their muscles. When they leave I assess their targets. All of them have at least one hit in the center. The Erudite and Candor have the best results, as usual, but Lexy and Liv aren't that far behind.
Christina and I put everything back, and get ready for the fight training this afternoon. After organizing everything, we head out to the dining hall. I grab a lunch, and go sit next to Tobias.
"How are your initiates doing?" He asks, biting into his sandwich.
"Not that bad," I reply, "they all managed to hit the center of the target, but some had much better results than he others. I can't wait for fight training though. I'm going to beat Christina's butt."
Tobias chuckles and Christina shoots me a glare, "Yeah, right. Dream on, Tris."
We are all laughing, until suddenly Will sits down at our table. He nods at us and turns to talk to Uriah. I look at Christina and see her looking down at her food. We finish the rest of lunch in silence. When it's time to get back, I give Tobias a quick peck on the lips and pull Christina away from the table with me. Just as we are about to enter the training, Will pulls Christina towards him by the arm.
A/N: There you go! Cliff hanger because I can! I'm thinking of doing a chapter or twin in Christina and/or Will's POV; what do you think?
