AN/ Hi, Chapter 20 and I'm on time :)

I got so many great reviews and I want to say thank you so much. I was about to update two days ago but I decided to wait and work on chapter 21 so that you don't have to wait too long, 'cause I know you'll want to kill me after this chapter...:P

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Kickin' it.

Chapter 20

Accidents Happen

I stretched my slightly stiff body and opened my eyes, squinting at the bright light of the morning sun, shining in. It was Thursday. Only one day to go before the deadline and I would have to stay a bird forever if we didn't find a way to stop Evelyn.

Mr Brewer had been home all afternoon yesterday, making sure that Jack hadn't left the house. We therefore hadn't been able to get the pictures to Claire. Today was probably the last chance we had…

I took a glance around the room. Jack had already dressed himself and I barely caught a glimpse of him before he left and went downstairs. He hadn't said a word, not even giving me a glance as he'd passed me, which made me figure that something wasn't right…

For once he hadn't closed the door and I quickly headed after him. He'd reached the kitchen by the time I caught up with him.

Spotting Mr Brewer sitting by the table with a cup of coffee in his hand, while reading the newspaper, I snuck in behind the toaster that was standing on the counter. The man was dressed in a suit as if he were going to some business meeting or something, and he seemed to have been too busy reading, to have noticed me. He barely even acknowledged his son making an entrance.

"Dad?" Jack said carefully. Mr Brewer looked up from the article. He didn't seem to be in a bad mood, still Jack cringed slightly when their eyes met, silently apologizing for interrupting.

"Yes?"

"I don't feel well…" Jack said quietly. His father eyed him for a moment, seeming to determine whether to believe that or not. Jack's gaze fell to the floor as he unconsciously grabbed his own elbow. "I think I'm coming down with a fever or something…"

Mr Brewer put away the newspaper and stood up. Jack shifted his weight nervously as the man approached him and I could hear him inhale sharply when Mr Brewer reached out to touch his forehead, as if he expected the touch to hurt.

"You don't feel warm," Mr Brewer confirmed and withdrew his hand. "I'm sure you'll feel better once you've gotten something to eat." He gave Jack a small push on the back of his shoulder, urging him to sit down by the table.

"I don't know… I don't think I can eat." Jack said as he took a seat.

"Nonsense! I'll make you a sandwich and then I'll drive you to school. How about that?" Mr Brewer sounded optimistic, opening the fridge.
Jack looked down, not answering. He wasn't really sick, both me and Mr Brewer seemed to have figured that out. But unlike him, I knew the real reason Jack didn't want to go to school today. I knew what had happened yesterday with Grace, Roy and the rest of the school…and to tell you the truth if I'd been in Jack's shoes I would've done anything to not have to go back there…

~~~~Wings of Love~~~~
"I'll be at an important meeting this afternoon, so I'm afraid I can't pick you up," Mr Brewer said as he drove down the street. Jack hadn't said a word, his mind full of all the scenarios that might occur when he had to face his bullies again. I was hidden in his shirt, Mr Brewer having no idea that his son had brought me with him. Jack had told me that he refused to go back alone and I therefore had to come with him. I hadn't argued with that. I was more than happy to come along. Whatever happened I felt like I needed to stick to him.
"I'll call your teacher later." Mr Brewer gave Jack a warning glance. "If you'll skip any classes; I will know."
Jack didn't say anything, his eyes fixed on his lap.
"And don't even think about taking a detour after school. You'll walk straight home, understood? Ms Turner has promised me to keep an eye out when you get home, so don't be delayed."
Jack just nodded and turned to look out the window. His eyes focused on something that he seemed to find interesting.
"WOAW!" Mr Brewer exclaimed suddenly, right before a loud thud was heard and the entire vehicle jumped. Jack's eyes widened as he was thrown forward, hitting the end of the seatbelt when Mr Brewer stood on the break. Confused and scared, he looked up at his father who was already halfway out the car. Jack quickly unbuckled his belt to follow.
Making it to in front of the car, Jack stopped abruptly, taking in the scene. I peeked out from under his shirt, my stomach clutching.
On the ground in front of the car lay a teenager boy about our age. There was blood running from his nose and head, and his left leg lay in a weird angle, making me figure it was broken.
Mr Brewer was kneeling beside him, searching for his pulse with shaking fingers.
"Oh my god…" Fear was shown in his eyes as he looked up at Jack. "Don't just stand there, Jackson! Quick, call an ambulance!"
Jack nodded and fiddled to get his phone out. From all around us people came running.
"What happened?!"
"He just walked straight out in front of the car. I didn't see him until it was too late," Mr Brewer explained, his voice wavering as the shock started to set in.
"Is he breathing?"
"Don't move him!" The people came with advice, interrupting one another as they all tried to help in any way that they could. Jack walked away from them as he dialled 911, his hands shaking.
"Hello?" He said into the phone. "I'm Jack Brewer. My father just hit a guy with his car… Yes… We're in the middle of King Avenue…"
I stopped listening to Jack's conversation there, having spotted the blond fifteen year old girl on the other side of the street, where she stood looking at the accident from a distance. I realised that it was her that Jack had looked at before from the car.
Jack was too busy to pay attention to her now though and he didn't notice as she let her gaze travel to him. A smug smile curved lips and I felt a shiver run down my spine. Why did she suddenly seem so interested in Jack?
For a moment I feared that she would walk over to us, but she didn't. She just turned and walked away, the cool morning wind playing with the blond locks that used to be mine as she did. Watching her disappear down the street, I noticed that she didn't turn towards Seaford High, but continued forward in the direction of Willow Grove. Clutching Jack's shirt, I looked up at him worriedly. Evelyn was definitely on the move.
Jack hung up the phone and in a matter of minutes the ambulance showed up. The boy was identified as Mason Brooks, a 16 year old student from our school. I had occasionally seen him in the hallways of Seaford High, but other than that I didn't know who he was. The accident had shocked me none the less and it felt surreal to watch them load his severely injured body into the ambulance. He was still alive, but showed no signs of consciousness and I wondered how badly hurt he was.
I shook my head. Jack and I had enough problems as it was already. We did not need for more things to happen. Making the mistake to believe that the accident was just an accident, all just a result of bad luck and timing, I failed to see that it was really the beginning of a well thought out plot…
The police arrived at the scene, talking to Mr Brewer and a few other witnesses, trying to get a picture of what happened. Jack was sent to walk the rest of the way to school, with the instructions of telling Mr Hanson, our teacher, to call Mr Brewer as soon as he'd arrived.
~~~~Wings of Love~~~~

I had spent the most of the day, trying to come up with a plan to get Jack out of school to meet Claire. But I never really got the chance to do anything. Mr Brewer had kept calling every now and then, making sure that Jack was where he was supposed to be…

Realizing that there was no possibility for Jack to sneak away, I'd had to wait. Sitting in the tree outside the school building, I had kept a watchful eye over the entire school yard. Evelyn hadn't showed up, making me worried. The full moon was only one night away and I figured that she was busy preparing for it, whereas we were stuck in school. I was beyond restless, counting the minutes to when the bell finally rang and the tall muscular boy with the wavy chocolate coloured hair appeared.

I whistled when I saw him. His head snapped around at the sound and a bright smile made it to his mouth when he saw me, soaring down to him.

"Hey, Bucky," he greeted. "Missed me?"

"Tsip," I nodded, landing on his shoulder. Jack chuckled and started walking.

"I've been thinking," he began. "What if the reason for Kim looking like Gabriella is because she really is her? I mean, they said the legend told that she would resurrect. So technically it could be her."

I shrugged. I guessed he did have point, but I was pretty sure that I wasn't Gabriella. I was just an ordinary teenager girl. Noting special. Besides I think that I would've known if I'd lived before...

Jack shook his head slightly, thinking.

"Maybe I should go talk to her," he suggested. My eyes widened.

"ITSIP Tis!" I shook my head, while frantically waving my wings in front of me in a stopping motion. Jack looked at me as if I were nuts.

"Alright, alright," he said. "I won't talk to her. Calm down."

I let my wings fall to the sides, breathing out in relief. For all I knew, Jack talking to Evelyn again, could only lead to disaster.

"I was just thinking that it could be a good idea. She might know something and maybe she could help," Jack continued.

"ITSIP!" I said as loud as I could. It would definitely not be a good idea. In the back of my head I could still hear Claire's voice, warning me that Evelyn's first goal would be to kill me, so that she could take over my body fully. If Jack brought me to her, I'd be doomed.

"Okay, so we won't do that." He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "So what do you suggest?"

I spread my wings and hopped off his shoulder, happily. Grabbing a few strands of his hair, I started to pull him in the direction of my home, where I knew Claire would be. Of course I wasn't strong enough to really pull him along and he just stopped, looking amused at me struggling.

"You want me to go somewhere?"

"Tsip," I nodded. Taking a new grip of his hair and pulled hard. Jack wouldn't budge though.

"You know I have to go home, right? Ms Turner's gonna tell dad if I don't."

Right, Ms Turner…

I let go of his hair and reluctantly sat down on his shoulder, hanging my head. Jack couldn't help but laugh at my pitiful expression.

"I tell you what; I just have to go home and show myself to her, and maybe get something to eat. Then I'll sneak out the back door and we'll be on our way. Alright?"

I instantly brightened up and without really thinking, I threw myself at his neck and wrapped my wings around it. Burying my face in his skin and inhaling his scent, I quickly realized that I was hugging him though and I quickly let go, my cheeks blushing fiercely. Jack just laughed at me and I was so glad at that moment that he didn't know who I really was.

As we got to his neighbourhood, Ms Turner was indeed sitting on her porch with a cup of coffee in her hand. I noticed her glancing at her watch as soon as she saw Jack, checking the time. I frowned. I'd had no idea that Jack was being so controlled everywhere. It must be really frustrating for him. I would have gone nuts if I were him.

Jack shot Ms Turner a glare, more to make sure that she saw him, than to make contact with her. Knowing that he was being watched, he walked all the way up to his house and unlocked the door.

As soon as we were inside, Jack went to the kitchen. I sat down on the table, watching him opening the fridge to get something to eat.

~~~~Wings of Love~~~~
We were halfway through our meal of sandwiches and breadcrumbs when the phone rang. Jack got up to answer it.
"Hello?" He looked confused as the person on the other end started talking. "Yeah, that's me."
Wondering who it could be that wanted to talk to Jack, I flew over to him. After all, Jack didn't have many friends and there were not many people who I could think of that would care to give him a call. Taking a seat on his shoulder, I could vaguely hear the voice speaking through the phone.
"My name is Claire," it said and I felt my heart skip a beat. "We've met a couple of times. I'm Kimberly's aunt. I know you must be wondering why I'm calling, but I know you have a sparrow living with you at this moment."
Jack suddenly tensed and he gave me a worried glance.
"Yes…" he answered with hesitation.
"I'm sure you have noticed by now that it's not just any sparrow."
Jack just nodded, not knowing what to think or say.
"It's no accident that it showed up at your place."
Jack shifted his weight, listening carefully.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean; that I have the answers you're looking for and you've got the answers I need. I have to talk to you."
"I'm listening," Jack said.
"I'm afraid I can't talk to you on the phone. I have to see you. Alone,"
"Okay," Jack frowned, unsure if he could trust her or not.
"Meet me by the end of your street, by the bus station in 30 minutes."
"Wait, what? Now?" Jack raised his eyebrows. "Hello?" he gave me a strange glance. "She hung up," he said and put the phone away. I jumped down on the counter so that it would be easier for me to see his face. His forehead was slightly wrinkled as he thought about the conversation, before turning to me.
"It was that strange lady with the red hair we met on Sunday. She's Kim's aunt. Do you remember?"
I nodded.
"She said she knew something about you. Is that true?"
I nodded again.
"So you think I should meet her?"
"Tsip," I nodded really intense at that. Jack sighed.
"So many strange things have happened lately that I don't know what to believe anymore and I certainly don't know who to trust. But if you want me to go, I'll go. After all you're the only one who's there for me…" he said. I found his sweet, which made me feel bad that I still kept secrets from him. He said he trusted me and still I hadn't trust him enough to tell him who I was…
"Siptsi," I sang none the less, happy of his decision.
He smiled at the cheerful tone in my voice and went back to finish his sandwich.
~~~~Wings of Love~~~~

It was only five minutes to go before our planned meeting with Claire when Jack came out from his bathroom.

"Ready to go?" he said and I gave him a nod.

"Do you have any idea of what she wants?" he wondered as we made it downstairs. "After all she said she knew about you. And you have something to do with the legend, which brings me to think that she has something to do with it too…"

"Tsip,"

"This is actually starting to get a bit exciting," he said, seeming eager to get going. He grabbed his sneakers and brought them through the house to the back door. With used hands, he swiftly put them on and was just about to get through the door when a deep voice came from behind, making him stop dead in his tracks.

"And where do you think you're going?"

I know that wasn't the most exciting chapter and you're probably not liking the cliffy, but it won't take too long until the next chapter. I promise:) There's gonna be a little bit more drama in it, I think...

As always reviews motivate a lot, so if you decide to leave one there's a good chance you will speed up my writing...;)

Thanks for reading
