Chapter 21: What Do We Do?
"Missing?" asked Randy as he felt his blood run cold. "You guys think Mara has gone missing?"
"Yeah . . ." said Ted as he caught his breath. "Her laptop and purse were still in the room when we went there, but she wasn't."
"Maybe we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions so quickly . . ." suggested John as he raised his hands. "Maybe Mara decided to go out for a walk to clear her head or something."
"If that's the case, how would you explain finding Brandon unconscious in the bloggers' room then huh?" asked Cody as he raised an annoyed eyebrow.
"Well . . . Mara could have accidently clocked Brandon on the side of his skull as she was getting up," suggested John as he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck "Or it may have been one of the other wrestlers who knocked him out because Brandon owed them money."
"Yeah . . . I doubt that," mumbled Randy as he let a scowl come across his face. "One thing I know for sure about Brandon is that he is a guy that won't hold off on paying his debts. He's one of those guys that pay off their debts as soon as possible . . . Did you guys leave Brandon in the bloggers' room after finding him?"
"No . . . as soon as we saw him, we took him to the trainer's office," said Ted as he pointed down the hall behind him. "He's being cared for right now as we speak."
"Did you guys check anywhere else backstage to see if Mara was around?" asked John as he raised an eyebrow.
"We did . . . she's not in any of the rooms backstage or in the parking lot," said Cody as he shook his head. "We checked your bus Randy to see if she was in there, but your driver said he hasn't seen her since you guys got off the bus earlier this afternoon."
"Uh oh . . ." said Ted as he looked over John and Randy's shoulders. "Don't look now, but Hunter is coming this way, and he doesn't look too happy."
"I wonder why he looks so pissed," muttered the Viper, sarcasm dripping from his voice as he and John turned around to greet the not-so-happy-looking Cerebral Assassin, dressed in his signature pantsuits as he walked up to the four from a second hallway that was connected to the catering room.
"You four . . . my office, NOW." said Hunter as he briskly walked passed them and down the hallway behind them. The four exchanged nervous glances with each other before following after their boss. The group walked in silence behind Hunter, gaining questioning stares from their co-workers as they walked past them. Once they reached Hunter's office, the Cerebral Assassin turned around and looked at his four charges questioningly, as if he knew that they knew something he didn't.
"Okay . . . I have two things I want to ask the four of you," said Hunter as he raised up two fingers. "Why did one of the trainer's assistants come to me earlier, saying that Brandon suffered a concussion after being mysteriously attacked by someone . . . and why hasn't Mara uploaded her blogs yet?"
"Uh . . . actually," said John as he was the first among the group to found their voice. "Those two questions kinda tie in together in our current situation."
"What do you mean by that John?" asked Hunter as he narrowed his eyes at the Cenation leader.
"During the power outage, someone went to the bloggers' room, knocked out Brandon, and kidnapped Mara," explained Cody as he crossed his arms. "At least . . . that's the best conclusion we've come up with so far."
"Someone kidnapped Mara?" asked Hunter as he raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure about this?"
"Like I said . . . it's the best thing we could come up with so far." said Cody as he shrugged his shoulders.
"Well . . . it does help to explain why Randy looks pissed as hell when instead he should be happy and celebrating his championship win." said Hunter as he pointed to the Viper, who looked like he wanted to punch the wall out just because it was there.
"Trust me . . . I'm in no mood for celebrating after what's happened here tonight," mumbled Randy as he held his belt tightly to his chest. "Mara is out there somewhere and we have no idea who took here or where they're at right now."
"We're probably going to have to bring the authorities in on this . . ." mumbled Ted as he brought a hand to his forehead.
"If we're going to do that, we have to keep it quiet," said Hunter as he shook his head. "Vince would kill me if any bad publicity happened to the company on my watch."
"Yeah . . . cause Vince cares a lot about the publicity the company gets, as well as his employees," Randy sarcastically mumbled under his breath as a knocking sound came from the door.
"Come in!" called Hunter as he took a seat on his desk. The door opened up to reveal one of the engineers that the WWE had under its employment, and judging from his grim expression, his news wasn't good. "What's happening Eric?"
"Well . . . I got some bad news," said the blonde as he walked into the room. "We figured out what happened to the lighting systems that caused the outage."
"What's the bad news?" asked Hunter as he raised an eyebrow.
"The outage wasn't by accident . . . it was intentional," said the man as he put his hands in his pockets. "Someone cut the power lines that connected the main power grid to all the electric ports within the arena. Whoever did this cut the lines so badly that the arena engineers will have to order a new set of them to fix it."
"So it wasn't two blown fuses?" asked John as he raised an eyebrow.
"That's what the other engineers and I originally thought, but after a more thorough investigation, we unanimously concluded that the outage was no accident." said Eric as he shook his head.
"Thanks for the news Eric," said Hunter as he shook his head. "You can get back to your job now. . . I have to talk to the guys here about something important."
"Yes sir . . ." said Eric as he walked back out the door.
"Ten bucks says that the same person that kidnapped Mara was the same person that messed up the lighting system." said Ted as he shook his head.
"Alright . . . let's keep this among the five of us for now. Search the backstage area for any clues and report back here after an hour is up. If no clues are found after the time is up, then we go to the police about this. Got it?" asked Hunter as he looked at the men tensely. Everyone else silently shook their heads in understanding, giving Hunter the okay to continue speaking. "Alright then . . . get to searching!"
