Fireflies

Chapter Twenty

Five F-35s roared over the desert. The pilots looked forward to see the glow of the burning city. Lightning streaked overhead. They looked on in shock as they came through a wall of smoke. Fires raged on as the city burned. They looked around watching as people tried to get out of the city. Looking up they saw the great dragon circle the city. It breathed fire burning another section of the city.

"Uh, command, y'all ain't going to believe this shit" the lead pilot said into his radio. "I'm seeing it and still working on believing it".

"We have a visual, what ever it is, kill it" command replied.

"Solid Copy" he said watching as the dragon burned another section.

The jets turned and came in behind the dragon. They flew behind it for a few seconds. At once all five fired two missiles apiece. The explosives slammed into the dragon creating a massive cloud of smoke. They cheered knowing their impacts would surely be enough to bring it down. Suddenly through the smoke the dragon came through roaring. It chomped on the lead jet. Fire, and pieces of burning metal bounced off of the dragon's hide.

With a roar and a swing of its tail the dragon knocked two more out of the sky. It turned to chase the other two. They tried to evade the dragon. Splitting up the dragon chased the one on its right. Its chest started to glow. It breathed fire at the jet. The flames licked the tail of the fighter. The pilot looked back before looking forward. He pushed the jet down to fly low to the city. The dragon prepared to chase it when suddenly bullets bounced off of its hide. It looked back to see the other jet behind it. With a mighty roar it turned to attack the jet. Its jaws clamped down on the left wing causing it to spin out of control towards the ground below. The dragon chuckled as it turned its focus on the last jet.

It focused on the jet as it fired two missiles at it. Ducking low the missiles flew over its back before slamming into a building. With a roar it breathed a jet of fire at the jet. It engulfed the fighter. It spun out of control before slamming into a building. Flying over it landed on the roof of a burning building. It looked out over the burning city.

"None can challenge me" it roared before taking flight once more.

Jade looked away as Jelico burned more of the city. She looked turned as more fighter jets roared in. They attacked the dragon. Bright flashes filled the sky as the military battled the great beast.

"We need to stop Jelico" Tori said staring out the window.

"How, he is unstoppable?" Summer said looking over to her.

"The military can't even stop him" Drake said pulling his mask off.

"We have to try something" Tori said looking at them.

They all heard a howl and looked back. They looked to see Sikowitz come bounding up the steps. He landed in his wolf form to look at the group of six. He transformed back into his human self.

"I have been doing my research" he said walking over to them.

"What have you found out?" Jade asked looking at him.

"A way to kill the dragon" he responded looking over to her.

"And, how do we do it?" Tori asked making him look back to her.

He sighed before looking back out the window. Two jets crashed into a building causing it to collapse. He looked down to the tar pits to see Samuel looking on as the dragon continued to battle the military. Tanks rolled down the street firing up at the dragon. Turning he looked at the Death Angels. "They won't like it" he said pointing at them.

Jade and Tori looked at him before turning to look at the siblings. They looked at one another before turning to Cale. Some blood stained the side of his head. He took a drag on a cigarette and looked back up to the three immortals. "Tell us" he said exhaling smoke through his nose.

"It might be to much for you to bear" Sikowitz responded.

"Tell us" he barked looking at him.

Sikowitz sighed before looking at him. "We have to kill the one who controls the dragon" he said making them step back, all but Cale.

The leader walked forward and looked down to the pits below. Next to them stood Samuel. He glowed with power. His hand shot out killing demons and vampires alike. A tank rolled up on him. He threw his hand out causing the vehicle to crash into a building. Cale turned away as Samuel cut down a soldier with the sword.

"Cale?" Nikki asked looking at him.

"Nikki, you, Jade and I are going after dad. Tori, you take the others and rally the forces. Keep the dragon in LA" Cale said putting his mask on.

"No, we are the ones pure of heart, we have to work together. Stay out of this" Jade said looking at him.

Suddenly his pistol was out and placed to her head. Jade stopped and looked at him. Tori took a step towards him. Cale responded by pulling another gun and pointing it at her too. The flames made her nude body glow. Everyone looked at them as they glowed with a strange glow.

"He is our father, we can try to talk him down" Cale said.

"He is right, he may be consumed with power but their father is still in there. You two are the deciders of fate. Jade, you are a descendant of Merlin. You are the only one who can if possible control the dragon without it corrupting you". Sikowitz said stepping forward. "Tori, you are pure, your abilities are strong enough to face the dragon down. We need to stop this" He said making them look at him.

"Cale" Nikki said making him look at her. "What are you saying?" She asked making him sigh.

"We have to kill our dad, he became the very thing we set out to destroy" he responded with a sigh.

Everyone prepared to leave. Jade however grabbed Sikowitz's arm making him stop. She looked at him as he turned to look at her. "Erwin, I just learned all along my real mother was Allison. How long did you know?" She asked looking at him.

He sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. "About a year. She determined that not telling you was the better choice" he said softly.

"Well, she was wrong. I wanted to know" she challenged looking at him.

"If you had known, you would have been killed. A parent is meant to be buried by their children. Children will do what they can to try to protect their parents. You would have tried to attack Lilith at any cost. Even if she hadn't did what she did to Tori" he explained looking at her.

Jade looked at him as she released his arm. They looked to see the group waiting on them. Slowly they started to walk forward. She knew he was right, she would have done what ever she could have to save Allison. The woman who had known her so well before all of this. She looked as the group started going down a flight of stairs. This, this was her new family.

"Just wondering, if we loose how do we kill the dragon then?" Drake said making Sikowitz look at him.

"There's only one weapon powerful enough to stop it then" Sikowitz said looking at him as he walked down the steps.

"Which is?" Tori asked from behind him.

"Pandora's Box" he responded walking down the steps with the group.

Tori walked on top of a building in her werewolf form. She looked out across the burning city. The dragon roaring making her look up at it. Fighter jets were pulling back. A B-1 lancer came in low over the city. It dropped a two thousand pound JADAM onto Jelico. The bomb knocked the dragon to the city below as well as leveling several city blocks. The dragon stood back up laughing as the bomber flew away.

Suddenly her head snapped up howling out. She looked as Jelico stopped and turned to look at her. She looked back at him as he turned to face her. "Who are you that would, stand against me?" He growled looking at her.

She howled again, this time Sikowitz joined her as did Drake and Summer. Suddenly armies of angels, werewolves, vampires, and demons came up behind her. The dragon just chuckled as it faced them all.

"So eager for your destruction. Not since the ancient gods have all the immortal species been united under a single banner" he said rearing up, his chest starting to glow. "No matter, your end is at hand. Shall we begin?"

With a roar Jelico launched himself at the immortal army. His wings flapped and he breathed fire at the building the army was on. He looked as they scattered around him much like roaches in his eye. He snapped his mouth shut clamping down on a few unlucky demons and angels. Sikowitz looked up as the dragon shot by. He looked over as Tori held Summer and Drake. He looked back to the ground. To his shock a werewolf was flying up at him. His eyes shot wide as suddenly he and the other werewolf crashed through the glass window of a building. Standing up he was in shock to see Isaac standing in front of him. Suddenly they shot at each other as flames shot up around the building.

Summer and Drake ran around helping wounded people get to safety. Drake stopped to see a vampire looking at him. It smirked and charged him. Snapping his pistol up he shot it in the head. Suddenly he was grabbed from behind. "Not all of us joined the crusade" A demon hissed in his ear.

Suddenly a gunshot rang out and the demon was knocked off of him. He looked to see Summer, a smoking gun in her hand. He knew she had a smirk on her face behind her mask. Suddenly a vampire was behind his sister. Before he could react it grabbed her by her throat.

"Drop your gun, or she dies" it said looking at him.

Drake looked at her and then to the vampire. He watched as his sister shook her head a bit. Slowly he tossed his gun down and looked at them.

"You fool" the vampire said as he prepared to strike.

"You're right he was" a voice said from his right.

To everyone's surprise standing there was Carmilla. Her hand shot out and grabbed him. She pulled him away from Summer. Suddenly her fist shot into his chest and bunched out of his back. Pulling her hand back to herself she looked as the vampire fell to his knees. Shooting forward she grabbed his bottom jaw and top jaw. In a flash she ripped his head in half. Looking at him she smiled before pushing him over. Turning she pulled Summer back up to her feet. They looked at one another as slowly Summer pulled her mask off.

"You came back?" Summer asked.

"I lost you once, I won't lose you again" Carmilla said stroking her cheek. In a quick action Carmilla shot forward and kissed her. She pulled back to see Summer smiling as she kissed her again.

Suddenly there was a thunderous crash making them turn to look. Jelico was looking at them. His eyes were glowing with great power. His tongue came out similar to that of a snake.

"Such a touching reunion. However you have nothing to look forward too, but your death" he said as he started to roar.

They stepped back as the dragon walked towards them. Suddenly Tori landed in front of them. The dragon pulled its head back before chuckling. Rearing back his chest glowed and it moved up his throat. Suddenly he breathed a jet of fire at them.

Jade, Cale, and Nikki jumped up onto a car. They looked to see Samuel laughing as he threw a fireball at a jeep. The jeep flipped through the air and crashed down on some unsuspecting soldiers. They looked at each other before moving down towards him.

"Dad" Nikki called out making Samuel stop and turn to look at them.

He glowed with energy. Golden arcs of energy bounced off of him. His eyes glowed with the same bright gold energy. He gripped onto the sword and stared up at the three if them. He watched as Cale and Nikki walked down to him. They both gripped their guns tightly.

"You two, I knew you'd come after me" he said, his voice distorted with that of the dragon's voice.

"Dad, you've become the very thing we set out to destroy" Nikki said looking at him.

"No, there is no other way to destroy immortals. This has to be done. Your mother was murdered by demons and vampires. Angels and werewolves claim to want to help humanity. Yet we slaughter each other by the thousands every month" he responded walking towards her.

"Look around, you have destroyed LA, for what? Revenge for mom's death" Cale said making Samuel look at him. "What would she think? She'd be ashamed and scared of you" he said throwing his hand at his father.

"You're right" he said lowering his head. Suddenly the gold energy glowed brightly. Samuel looked back up to his son. "Weren't you the one who tried to kill all immortals. You're the one who wanted to do it most" Samuel said pointing the sword at his son.

Cale looked at him before looking away. "I wanted to kill immortals, not destroy a city to do it" he said looking back to his father.

"Please dad, give the sword to Jade and end this" Nikki pleaded.

Samuel looked at her before looking up at Jade. He slowly looked at the sword in his hand and then back as the dragon roared out. He lowered his head a bit. Suddenly his sword slashed out sending an energy wave. Cale ducked under it as it slammed into Nikki. She flew back and slammed into a car, knocking her unconscious.

Cale roared out his gun up he fired it at his father. Samuel brought his sword up. An energy shield blocked the bullets making them clatter on the ground. Cale pulled back and looked as Samuel seemed to glow brighter. Suddenly he was kicked, causing him to slam into a car next to Nikki. Both laid there unconscious.

Jade looked at the hunters before looking to their father. He had turned to face her. He gripped onto the sword with a smile. Jade's wings flapped lowering her to the ground. She gripped onto her sword and stared at him. He threw another energy wave at her. Her wings folded in front of herself. The energy swirled around her. Her eyes shot wide to see her black wings were now glowing white with arterial light.

"A descendant of Merlin, I will take pleasure in killing the blood of the one who trapped me" Samuel said, horns starting to grow from above his eyes.

Jade stared at him, her own eyes glowing with white energy. Her wings and sword glowed as well. Both looked at one another before shooting in at each other. Their blades crashed together, sending white and golden energy shooting up into the air.
