My Fake Boyfriend and His Obnoxious Mother
Summary: She didn't mean to be his girlfriend, even if it was fake. Technically, she wasn't even supposed to be Fang's girlfriend. How long will they have to hold up the act? What if it's no longer fake? And what happens when his mom finds out? FAX.
Chapter 21
"What did I do now?" Max asked monotonously, her face flat and her shoulders slumped down.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Madison fervently shaking, pointing a slender finger at Max. "SHE CUT HIM!"
Max turned around to look behind her, only to see Iggy shaking his head, blood pouring out of his index finger.
"Iggy," Max growled, looking at him, "what did you do?"
It had only been Madison, Iggy and Max at first, but Madison was screaming her head off, and now everyone was gathered in the kitchen.
"Madison was tossing knives at me, Max," he said quietly, leaning in close to her. "She even bribed me to make it look like I cut myself, so she could pin it on you."
Sighing, she swiftly walked out of the kitchen, heading straight to the bathroom. She rummaged through the closet, before she pulled out a white first-aid kit. She brought the box to the kitchen, and set it on the island. Everyone's eyes were on her.
"What?" Max grumbled, looking through the box for a bandage and a rubbing pad.
She could hear Fang sighing. "Tell her, Mom," he spat.
"Max was in here," she said shakily, her voice wavering, "and she was cutting vegetables up, and then she got this weird look in her eyes, and Iggy over here was standing next to her…"
Max's head perked up, and she turned around. "Then what, Madison?" Max asked innocently.
Madison glared at Max, and continued her story. "And then she held up her knife, and I was pretty sure she was going to hack one of Iggy's fingers off, so then I started screaming."
Max rolled her eyes and shook her head, looking over at Iggy. "Wash your hand," she told him, and he nodded, putting his hand under the sink and wincing.
After pulling his finger away from the sink, Max tended to Iggy's finger. She looked over at Madison, who had paused in her story. "Oh, please, Madison, continue. Don't let me stop you."
Looking up at Iggy, Max murmured, "This is going to hurt."
He nodded, smirking. "I'm a big kid – HOLY CRAP, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
Max had rubbed a little alcohol, to sterilize it so that no germs had gone in. "Shh," she soothed, patting his shoulder awkwardly, while the rest of the group giggled.
She looked over her shoulder at Madison. "What next?"
"M-Max here," Madison stuttered to the group, "she brought the knife up, and she looked like she was going to attack me, so I started screaming even more!"
Max nodded, unwrapping a bandage out of its cover.
Madison, holding up a shaky finger, wavered, "She was going to kill me!"
Max, still tending to Iggy, smiled sourly and looked over at her. She shrugged, and everyone looked at her, knowing that that was definitely not have happened.
"Iggy?" Max said lowly. "Can you tell them what really happened?"
Madison's eyes bulged out. "Wait wait," she said quickly. "I may have exaggerated just slightly…"
"Really now?" Fang said, butting in. "Ma, this is a new low from you."
Madison glared at him, furious at what he'd just said. "Nicholas," she shrilled. "This is a new low for you!"
Fang's jaw clenched, and through gritted teeth, he muttered, "I don't need your opinion on this."
Max could tell he was about to break. She didn't want to get mad at Madison however; that would just make her seem like the bad person. She wasn't about to lose her resolve.
Sighing, she tugged on Fang's arm. "Let's go, Fang."
She pulled him to the bedroom with her, and the group disbanded, confused with the whole situation. She could hear everyone asking Iggy questions. The last thing she heard him say before she shut the bedroom door was: "Madison was actually the one who accidentally cut me, and then made it look like Max had."
Max sighed, leaning against the door and sliding down to the floor. She rested her elbow on her now stretched out leg, and put a tired hand on her forehead.
Fang paced back and forth angrily in front of the bed. "I can't believe she said that about you!" he said, expressing himself. He looked down and started murmuring things to himself. Max caught a few words: "Hate her…understand…" and then she heard one full phrase, loud and clear: "I was about to tell her about our original plan."
Max jumped up, looking at Fang with concern. "Fang, are you okay?" She took a step forward to him, and he stopped pacing and stood right in front of her.
"I was so mad," he said, his fists clenched and his teeth gritted, "that I was about to tell her our original plan. I was going to say, that this was all a hassle to you from the start and that our original intentions weren't like this."
Max put a hand on his shoulder and looked up at him. "Look at me," she demanded, speaking softly. "I know this had been hard, but it's turning out for the better."
"How?" he muttered, looking away. "How is this getting better? My mother," he spat, "has gone crazy."
She brought a hand up to his face and cupped his cheek. "Because of us, Fang," she said softly. "It's getting better because of us."
Smiling, she brought her lips up to his, kissing him gently. "I love you."
He sighed, bending down and burying his face at the crook of her neck. He hugged her gently, and whispered, "I love you too."
It was lunchtime when Max and Fang finally got out of the bedroom. They had spent the past few hours sitting in complete silence, which was something they were in desperate need of.
When they came out, Iggy was grinning like the best thing had just happened to him. "So, what'd you guys do in there?" he asked quietly to them, winking. "Fangles…didja' catch in on some action?"
Fang rolled his eyes and shook his head, while Max huffed. "Iggy, you perv!" She lightly slapped his arm, a smile still playing on her lips.
"Well come on, you slow pokes!" Iggy urged. "Lunch is getting cold anyways."
Max grinned happily at the thought of food and jogged to the kitchen, Fang following. Max and Fang went inside the kitchen while everybody else was seated. Bringing out two full bowls of food, Max announced, "Lunchtime!"
She set it down at the table, and noticed that Madison was sitting in the middle of the three seats that had been left.
Sighing, she shook her head, and reluctantly sat down in between Iggy (who had already brought out most of the food) and Madison.
"I can sit over there if you want," Iggy offered, getting out of his seat.
Max shook her head fervently. "No, sit down," she said, patting the air. She leaned in close, and whispered, "It's obviously a test or something."
The doorbell rang just as Fang was about to sit down, and he muttered a quick, "I'll get it."
He opened the door, and in front of his stood a fiery, red-headed monster with make-up.
He cleared his throat and said, "Lissa, what are you doing here?"
Max's eyebrows scrunched, and she made a move to stand up.
"Oh silly, Nick!" Madison said cheerfully, getting out of her seat to greet the unwanted guest. "I invited her, to make up for the whole mess this morning!"
Everyone at the table groaned exhaustively, burying their heads in their hands.
"Hi!" she giggled, and then her eyes narrowed. She scoffed in disgust and rudely said, "Well, aren't you going to let me in?"
Max sighed, rubbing her forehead tiredly. "Great," she mumbled to herself, but Iggy happened to hear.
"I really don't want this chick here," he muttered lowly, only so Max could hear. "Who let Madison invite her? Last time I checked, the four of us rent this place, not Madison."
Max simply shrugged. "The lady thinks she owns and controls everybody's lives, Igs."
He nodded slowly, and Fang rushed to sit in Madison's spot. They hadn't started eating yet, so it was okay.
"I hadn't realized she would do something like this," he growled quietly, and Max patted his shoulder.
Lissa bounced over to the table. "So how's everybody doing?" she said perkily.
When there was no response, she asked, "Can I join you all for lunch?"
There was no response for that either.
Max slammed her head on the table.
It was definitely going to be a long day.
Long day indeed. Yes yes. Sorry for not updating last weekend, my computer was goign all wack on me.
