New Beginnings (Prequel) Chapter 21: Go Hard or Go Home, a glee fanfic

Mercedes smiled as she walked down the hallway. She was in a very good place in her life and she was very happy. When she rounded the corner, she saw Sam standing in the middle of the hallway with his guitar, "What the hell.." She muttered under her breath as she stopped.

Sam smirked when he saw her, "Hey baby.."

"Sam..what are you doing?" She asked as she looked and saw some of the their peers looking at them.

"Well, I wanted to sing you a little song. I know I won't see much of you after school for the next week because we're both going to be rehearsing but I decided that I want spend as much time as I possibly can in between classes."

"But do you have to do it here?" Mercedes asked quietly as she more people stopping and staring at them.

Sam just smiled as he started to strum his chords on his guitar. He walked towards her with a toothy grin as he opened his mouth to start singing.

I'm not surprised, not everything lasts
I've broken my heart so many times I stopped keeping track

I get all worked up then I let myself down

Mercedes covered her face with her hands. She loved Sam so much but hated all the attention that was on them.

Sam made a circle around her, smiling softly when he saw her blushing.

I tried so very hard not to lose it
I came up with a million excuses
I thought, I thought of every possibility

And I know some day that it'll all turn out

I just haven't met you yet

He got down on one knee in front of her as he sang, giving her the most adorable look ever.

I might have to wait, I'll never give up
I guess it's half timing and the other half's luck

Mercedes smiled down at him shaking her head. She loved him to death.

Sam stood back as he sang the last part of the song loudly knowing that there was a possibility he could get in trouble.

Mercedes leaned against the lockers smiling, she clapped for him just as everyone else did.

Sam bowed down before he went to her, bending down to give her a slow kiss on the lips.

Mercedes wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning up on her tippy toes, ignoring the cat calls and whistles.

"Get a room." Josh yelled from down the hall.

Sam pulled back with a smirk, "I'll see you later." He gave her one last kiss before he left.

Mercedes shook her head as she pulled on her strap, "Bye." She turned around and put the combination into her locker. When she opened it, she was immediately taken aback by the vase of red roses in there with a small teddy bear. Picking up the card from the flowers, a wide smile immediately graced her lips when she read it. Just because I love you. She bit down on her bottom lip as she pulled the roses out carefully and grabbed the teddy bear. She closed her locker and headed down the hallway to practice.

Mercedes twirled around in front of the mirror in her dress. Her hair was pinned back and she had just stepped into her strapped heels. This was it. It was either go hard or go home and she knew she didn't want to go home. Smoothing out her dress, she smiled when she saw Mike come up behind with a single flower in his hand, "You look dapper."

"Well thank you." He bowed down in front of her, earning a giggle out of his best friend, "I just wanted to come by and wish you luck and this is for you." He handed her the flower.

"Thank you Mikey." She gave him a side hug, "Good luck to you. You're going to need it." She pinched his cheeks.

Mike smiled at her, "We'll see Ms. Jones." He winked at her as he walked out of the room.

Brittany came up to her with a wide smile plastered on her face, "Lord T told me that you look very beautiful when you left the house this morning. He kind of was peeking in on our FaceTime."

Mercedes giggled at her, "That handsome rascal. I'll have to buy him something this weekend."

Brittany laughed as she moved back Mercedes' bang, "You're a great friend Mercedes. Even when people call me stupid, you are always there to reassure me that I'm not."

Mercedes held her hands, "That's because you're not stupid. You are the smartest person I know and if anyone else says that you are, I will beat their ass without hesitation."

Brittany smiled as she hugged her, "Thank you."

"Anytime." She kissed her cheek, only pulling back when she heard the set manager tell them the show was about to start.

Santana groaned as she fixed the outer part of her dress. Her eyes drifted over to Mercedes as she saw her hug Brittany. She was starting to feel really bad for what she did but she couldn't help it. She hated that Sam was with her and she couldn't change how her heart felt. She followed behind everyone as they headed inside to be seated.

The Troubletones had to admit that they had some tough competition but that only motivated them to do their best. The theme today was 'Love Thy Beauty' and they knew that they had this in the bag with their song choice.

Mercedes looked up from her lap when she heard the announcer introduce the New Directions. She smiled lightly as she looked at some of her friends, internally rolling her eyes when she saw Rachel come in front to the mic.

All while she was singing, Rachel made sure she emphasized every word as she looked at Mercedes.

Mercedes tried not to glare at her but it was kind of hard not too when the girl looked like she was trying to make some bold statement towards her. She clapped, mostly for the rest of them because their choreography was beautiful. She stood up with the other girls and walked towards the back so they could get ready for their set. Making her way backstage she rolled her eyes when he saw Rachel smirking.

"I just want to wish you luck. You're going to need after my wonderful performance." She flipped her hair as she walked passed her.

Mercedes bit down on her tongue so she wouldn't say anything. She looked at Kurt and Blaine when they walked behind her. She couldn't believe that they were wrapped around her finger. She gasped quietly when she felt someone wrapped their arms around her waist.

Sam smiled as he kissed the side of her forehead, "Good luck baby."

She turned around in his arms with a smile, "Thank you." Even though she had heels on, she still had to lean up to press a sweet kiss on his lips.

Quinn shook her head as she grabbed Sam away from Mercedes, "Alright break it up lovebirds, you're going to mess up her makeup."

"But..I want my Mercy kisses." He said with a pout of his full lips.

Mercedes smiled when she saw Sam pouting.

"You can get them later, I'm pretty sure of that." Quinn pulled him towards the door.

"I LOVE YOU." He yelled before he was pushed out the door.

"I love you too." Mercedes called after him, shaking her head before she got into her position on the stage. She thanked the man for hooking the mic up to her. She smiled when Brittany stood in front of her. When the curtains pulled back, she started to sing on softly on the beat.

Mercedes placed her hands on Brittany's shoulders and the others girls followed her lead with their partners.

Brittany wrapped one arm around her waist, her hand finding hers as they swayed side to side.

The girls decided to partner up and do a ballroom type dance with this song. There were a few cheerleading and ballerina moves involved also.

When Brittany twirled Mercedes, she let go of her hand and did a slow full backflip that turned into a spilt when she landed.

Sam couldn't take his eyes off of his girlfriend as the lyrics flowed from her mouth. She was beautiful. He sat back in his seat and let her voice captivate him all over again.

Mercedes chanced a glance at Sam. She knew this would be a perfect song to sing. The lyrics were the questions and answers she always thought about them.

She walked towards the middle and sent a wink Sam's way.

Sam smiled brightly when she winked at him. He loved this girl, no questions about it.

The crowd stood up on their feet clapping loudly for the girls.

When they bowed, they headed back to the back to head to their seats. Mercedes stopped short when she saw her brother, "Hey."

Micah turned around with a smile, "You were amazing." He opened up his arms for a hug.

Mercedes ducked her head as she walked to him, wrapping her arms around his waist, "Thank you."

He kissed her forehead. He loved his little sister to death and would do anything for her. He dreaded having to tell her that their so call father once again didn't show up but she beat him to the punch.

"I don't care. As long as you are here." She said, knowing what he was thinking. Mercedes didn't even care anymore about her dad not showing to her events. Hell, she barely cared about him anymore.

"I'm always going to be here for you." He pulled back and touched her heart, "And mom will always be right there with you too."

Mercedes smiled, "I know.." She hugged him again, never wanting to security she felt with him to leave. She loved her brother and she knew that he was a man of his word. She pulled back when she heard the announcer calling for all show choirs to head to the stage for awarding.

A/N. Hey loves! Its been almost two months since I've written for this story and let me just say that I think this chapter sucks tremendously. I've edited and edited, deleted twice and rewrote it but hopefully it's some what good to you. Part 2 will be better, more shit goes down but it's going to be so DOPE!
