Troy gasped. But his heart sank when he heard a whimper behind him. "What did you just say?" He turned and felt sick. Gabriella was standing in the door way white as a ghost, shaking, crying, and breathing heavy. He knew she had heard it. What made him feel worse, he didn't think there was any way he can stop this.

"Ah, Ms. Montez, please come in. Ms. Nelson and Mr. Bolton you two may return to your classes." the Principal said.

"Not a chance." Troy growled.

"That's not going to happen." Kelsi said

"I want to see how Gabriella and Sharpay get a long when there is no one around."

"Like I said that's not going to happen." Kelsi said.

"I'm not leaving this room unless Gabriella is by my side." Troy said sternly.

"Fine you may stay until Ms. Evens arrives." The Principal sighed knowing they weren't going to leave anyway.

Kelsi gently led a frozen, shocked Gabriella over to Troy. He quickly took her into his arms and hugged her closer. "I've got you baby, I'm right here. Nobody is going to hurt you."

Gabriella clung to Troy as tight as she could. She calmed down and stopped crying, but she continued to shake. "Don-Don't le-leave." Gabriella stuttered out.

"I'm not going anywhere. You're safe with me." Troy promised as he rubbed her back.

"Actually Ms. Montez, Mr. Bolton will have to leave once Ms. Evens gets here."

"NO!" Gabriella shrieked.

"Don't listen to him. I'm not going anywhere. The only way I'll leave is if he physically removes me."

Gabriella relaxed.

"Mr. Bolton..."

"NO, don't even. You're the reason she's freaking out like this and I will not leave her alone with you and Sharpay."

The door opened and Sharpay walked in. "You wanted to see me?" she asked.

"Yes, Ms. Evens, thank you for coming. I've got some good news. I have found you someone to mentor."

"Really, that's great! Who is it?"

"Ms. Montez."

Sharpay gasped and her eyes lit up. "Really! That's great! I'm so excited. But what about Troy?"

"That doesn't concern you, Ms. Evans. Now have a seat I'd like to see how you and Ms. Montez get along."

Sharpay nodded and went to sit down. She looked to Gabriella and smiled nicely. "Come sit with me, Gabriella."

"Ms. Montez go sit, Mr. Bolton and Ms. Nelson you need to leave now."

"NO!" Gabriella screamed on top of her lungs. She pulled from Troy's arms and took off running. She was shaking, crying, and panting for air as she ran.

Troy looked at Sharpay and the Principal glared at them both before taking off after Gabriella.

Troy quickly caught up with her. He wrapped his arms around her waist to stop her. Before she could freak out further he said "It's me, Brie, It's Troy. It's all right I've got you now. You're safe."

Gabriella realxed into his arms and laid her head on his shoulder. Troy stroked her hair as he whispered soothing things into her ear.

"I'm not letting this happen, Brie. I promise. I don't care what I have to do, Sharpay will not ever be your mentor. We both know I can't be your mentor anymore, but that doesn't mean I'll let just anyone take over that job. I will make sure it's someone you trust and feel comfortable with. Now, I can't stop this. I have no control over what the Principal does, but my father does. As your legal gardian he has the right to say he doesn't want this for you. He can put a stop to this. We wil talk to him at home later tonight. He'll put a stop to this."

Gabriella didn't respond.

Trroy sighed softly. "Brie, please tell me what you're thinking. Don't shut me out."

"Home."

Troy nodded. "I'm going to take you there. I promise. Anything else."

Again Gabriella didn't say anything.

"Come on, Princess. Please, talk to me." He kissed her hear softly and whispered into it. "Brie, Swetie, You're safe with me. Please let me in."

She softly giggled and her hand flew up to cover her ear. "Tickles." she whispered.

He chuckled. He kissed her head. "Sorry..." but then he smiled softly as he got an idea. "Did you say you wanted tickles?" he moved his hand to her side and gave it a small squeeze. She squeaked and giggled softly and removed her hand from her ear to protect herself. "No tickles." she spoke.

Troy smiled and kissed her head once more. "I promise. Come on, let's get you home."

Gabriella nodded and they two of them left the school. Troy didn't care what he had to do, he was going to make sure that Sharpay never became her mentor, he was going to make sure Sharpay never became anyone's mentor.

Later that night Jack got home from work and Troy was waiting to speak to him.

"Dad we have to talk." Troy said the second he walked in the door.

"If this is about Sharpay being Gabriella's mentor save it. I heard all about it after you left school early." Jack said in a more annoyed tone.

Troy sighed. "Dad, Gabriella would of had a panic attack. I had to get her out of there."

"Look, Troy, I get it. You want to be Gabriella's only mentor but you can't. Now that you two are a couple you have to let someone else mentor her."

Troy growled softly. "I will! I accept that, I do not and will not let Sharpay be that mentor because I know it will do more harm than good."

"How do you know that? I thought Sharpay changed. She seemed pretty upset when I saw her. Said she felt judged by her past."

"She didn't change. It was all a lie. Why I'm not sure." Troy told his father. Why wasn't he helping them?

"Troy, did you ever think maybe you're looking for excuses. You want to be the only Mentor for Gabriella, and I have a feeling you're going to find something wrong with everyone that is picked. At least Sharpay is your friend."

"No she's not." Gabriella whimpered. "She's a bully."

Jack sighed. "Look, I told the Principal that I would agree to anything Gabriella wanted. If she wanted Sharpay I'd approve, if she didn't want Sharpay I wouldn't approve. All he is looking for is a chance to see how they get along. He did the same with the two of you, remember, at the park. That's all he wants to do with Sharpay and Gabriella. Nothing is set in stone."

"So if Gabriella is scared and uncomfortable he won't pair them up?" Troy asked.

"No, if he does I'll call the school board because that's just not right. Now can I please go change my clothes and take a shower. I smell like a sweaty gym."

Troy chuckled and nodded. "Sure Dad."

Jack shook his head and walked off. Troy went back over to Gabriella on the couch. He sighed seeing the scared face she had. "Brie, Listen, it won't be that bad. You don't have to speak to her at all. In fact the more you ignore her the better chance you have of getting out of this."

"I don't want to be alone with her, Troy." Gabriella whimpered. "What if she hurts me again. What if she chokes me again?"

Troy sighed. He knew Gabriella and Sharpay have never been close, but he never realized until now, Gabriella just didn't like Sharpay, she was scared to death of her. He rubbed her back. "You won't be. The Pricipal will be there to supervise, don't you remember when we first met. Both our Principal's met and stayed with us to make sure it worked out before making any final choices. We both know Sharpay likes to play the good girl act in front of people. You'll be safe as long as the Principal is there."

Gabriella shook her head as tears filled her eyes. "I'm only safe if you are there."

"I will be. I'll be right outside the door listening and waiting. If anything goes wrong I'll come in and put a stop to it."

"I don't know what to do." Gabriella whimpered as the tears slipped down her cheeks.

"Shh, Brie, Baby, please don't cry. Listen Sweet Girl, listen, all you have to do is ignore Sharpay. Don't talk to her, don't look at her, don't give any response. Make it as if you don't even hear her. The only reason I was allowed to mentor you is because you accepted me. Remember? You allowed me to swing next to you and be your friend. We had fun together, I pushed you on the swings and you were laughing and having a fun time. If that doesn't happen, we will find someone else who can make it happen."

Gabriella actually smiled through her tears as she remember that first meeting. Troy was so wonderful. He never pushed her or pressured her to do anything. He was willing to walk away when she didn't accept him. She knew Sharpay would be different but how bad could it get with the Principal right there?

"There is my favorite smile." Troy smiled. "Are you ok now?"

"I don't want to do this, Troy. I really don't, but I'd rather do this than have to be mentored by Sharpay."

"I know, you're being soo brave and so strong. I promise when it's all over we can celebrate anyway you want."

Gabriella nodded. She had to do this, even if she didn't like it.

The next day at school Gabriella stuck to Troy's side like glue. As long as he was with her she was ok. But they both knew they second he had to leave her she was going to freak out. Troy wanted the meeting with Sharpay to be the first thing they did because he didn't want Gabriella to spend the day worrying about it.

They walked into the office Troy led Gabriella over to a chair and sat her down.

"Thank you for doing this, Troy." His Principal said.

"I'm only agreeing to this so you can see what a big mistake you're making. Sharpay is not a good mentor for Gabriella."

"We will see."

Troy shook his head and knelt down so he was in front of Gabriella. "It's going to be ok, Brie. I'm right here. I'm going to be right outside the door. Just remember what we talked about. Be yourself and everything will be ok."

Gabriella just nodded.

Sharpay walked in the room and Gabriella gulped.

"It's all right. You're safe" Troy cooed. "I'll be right outside the door. I won't go anywhere."

Gabriella nodded.

Troy sighed knowing she wouldn't speak. He kissed her forehead and left the room. He knew the sooner he left the sooner is would be over.

"All right Girls, thanks for agreeing to this. I'm just going to be a fly on the wall. You two just act normal." The Principal said. He started doing something on his computer.

Sharpay took the seat next to Gabriella. "So, how are you?"

Gabriella ignored her.

"Come on, Brie, don't act like that. I know you can hear me."

Again Gabriella said nothing.

Sharpay growled softly. She moved so she was in front of Gabriella. She leaned in close to her face and whispered harshly to her "Listen up you little brat, you're going to talk to me and you're going to make me look good otherwise I'll have to take drastic measures."

Gabriella looked to Sharpay and gulped. Normally when Troy said he was going to take drastic measures he ended up tickling her. She had good feeling that wasn't what Sharpay meant. She turned her face away from Sharpay.

They both jumped when the sound of a cell phone was heard. They both looked toward the Principal. He grabbed his phone quickly. "Hello?" He looked to the girls. "Sorry, go on. I won't bother you." He looked back to his computer, still on the phone. "No, I can talk. What's up?"

Gabriella gulped. Sharpay grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and pulled her closer. "Listen up, brat! I'm rich, that means I have connections. I can easily get your parents out of jail and make sure they get full custody of you! Those Susan and Gene people will never see you again, and you'll never see them again. So you better listen to me and talk to me and act like I'm your best friend!"

"No!" Gabriella screamed. She got up from the chair and ran to the back of the room and sat down against a book shelf. She curled into a ball with her arms around her legs and her legs pulled up to her chest and her face was buried in her knees.

Sharpay checked and sure enough the Principal was too distracted to notice what was going on. Sharpay moved over and knelt down in front of Gabriella. "You are so annoying! No wonder Susan and Gene don't want you!"

Gabriella's head shot up. "What?"

"Oh come on! Gabriella, think about. It's been 3 years almost four and they haven't found you. There is no proof they are even looking! If they really wanted to find you they would! Especially now that the police are involved, they can't even find record of them searching for you 3 years ago. That's why you haven't heard from the police. Face is Gabriella, you're parents hate you, they always have, that's why they hired a Nanny in the first place so they didn't have to deal with you! They were happy when they realized you were gone. They threw a party and had another kid replacing you like pair of shoes."

Gabriella glared the best she could through her tears. "You're a liar!"

"Oh yeah?" Sharpay laughed. "Then tell me, how is it possible that even after 3 years there is still no sign of your real parents. Unless of course you want to tell me they are dead."

"They are not dead!" Gabriella shrieked. Her eyes were drowning with tears and her face was red. She was very quickly losing it. "Troy said they are not dead!"

"Troy will say anything to make you happy. He also says your beautiful he's just too nice to tell you the truth."

"No! No they're not dead." Gabriella cried finally letting the tears fall.

"Yeah they are. Face it Gabriella, there are only two reasons as to why Susan and Gene haven't found you yet. 1. They are dead or 2 they don't care about you and they don't want you anymore. The sooner you accept that the better."

"Shut up! They will find me again!"

"You're in denial. But don't worry, I'll be right here when it finally sinks in." Sharpay said nicely.

"You're lying to me. Stop lying to me."

"You're lying to yourself, Gabriella. You're the only one that's hurting you."

Gabriella put her hands over her ears, she couldn't listen to this anymore. But Sharpay just spoke louder and louder so Gabriella could still hear her. Still Gabriella ignored her. Sharpay grabbed her wrists and ripped them away from her ears and screamed at her "You're parents are dead and don't love you anymore just admit it you useless brat!"

Finally Gabriella snapped. "GET AWAY FROM ME! STOP IT! LEAVE ME ALONE! TROY!"

"What is going on in here?" The Principal asked finally realizing what was going on. He pushed his chair back and stood up. Gabriella scrambled under his desk to hide and pulled his chair in front of her as a barrier to protect herself.

The door slammed open and Troy stood there. "Where is she? What did you do?" Troy asked walking over to them. He gasped when he saw Gabriella hiding under the desk, shaking, crying, and breathing heavy.

"Baby, Brie, what happen, Angel." He knelt down and moved the chair away. She let out a small scream of fear.

"It's all right, Brie, Nobody is going to hurt you. Can you come out of there?"

Gabriella shook her head.

"Please, if you come out I can take you home."

Again Gabriella shook her head.

"Why not, Precious?"

Gabriella didn't respond she just continued to cry. Troy sighed. He moved closer until he was under the desk with her.

"Mr. Bolton this is not some make out spot. Get out of there!" The Principal said.

Troy ignored him. He focused on his girl. "Brie, Sweetie, I know you're scared. I know you're upset. But I also know you don't want to stay here. You want to go home."

Gabriella nodded.

"So let me take you there. But for that to happen you have to come out from under the desk."

Gabriella shook her head.

"What if I take you come out from under here and right into my arms."

Gabriella finally nodded.

Troy slowly crawled out and then gently took Gabriella's hand as she crawled out. They both stood and Troy took her right into her arms. He rubbed her back and kissing her head as he whispered comforting things into her ear.

He looked the Principal. "We did as you asked, Gabriella is scarred for life, I hope you realized this is never going to work out, because she is never doing this again. Sharpay is never going to mentor Gabriella. This is over!" He walked out of the office and out of the school. He didn't know how, or even if Gabriella was ever going to recover from this.
