Chapter Twenty:

Subtle Intimidation

As I promised after I woke from my blissful oblivion I called my dad to check in. I stayed at Jasper's until the sun went down, working on perfecting our scene. We called it a night at around seven-thirty once I felt like we were going to do our star cross lover's justice.

As Jasper was helping me with my jacket at his front entrance my phone vibrated, thinking it was dad I answered it without looking at the caller I.D.

"Hello." I was greeted with silence. I waited a few seconds, thinking maybe my phone was cutting out or they didn't hear me. I said hello again, still nothing.

"Rose? Alice?" I asked when there was still no answer I pulled the phone from my ear to look at the display screen. It was an unknown number.

"Look I am going to hang up." As I started to pull the phone away from my ear I heard one of the three voices that would cause a cold sweat and a tremor of fear to run through my body.

"Hello Bella. Did you miss me?" asked the female on the other end in a decrepitly sweet, innocent voice.

I froze; it felt like the blood in my veins was turning to ice. Flash backs from that horrible night started running through my mind and I dropped the phone. I staring at it as if she was going to come through and finish what she had started.

"Bella, baby what's wrong, who is it?" Jasper implored.

"It's…it's her. Oh God Jasper she…"

Jasper grabbed the phone and started talking in a threating tone. I could hear a cackle of laughter on the other end before the line went dead.

I fell to the floor clutching my head in my hands. I felt like I couldn't get enough oxygen in my lungs and started to hyperventilate.

"Bella you have to breathe darlin' can you do that for me. Focus on me and my breathing. That's it, in and out just like that." Jasper praised as I matched my breaths with his. "We need to get you home and tell your dad what's going on." He instructed as he picked me up and helped me to the car and drove to my house as if the hounds of hell were at our feet.

"Charlie!" Jasper yelled as he usher me into the living room. Dad came rushing in moments later.

"What is it? What happened?" dad demanded. When he got a good look at me he ran to my side.

"Honey what's wrong?"

"I think she's in shock Sir. She received a call from an unknown number right before we left my house. Bella turned white as a ghost and when I asked her who it was she told me it was 'her' then she fell to the floor and started to have a panic attack. I picked up the phone from where she dropped it and when I asked who it was a woman said she would see us soon and started laughing before hanging up on me." Jasper informed Dad.

"I got to call Carlisle and the boys I have to tell them what is going on. Stay with her and keep her calm, we are going to need her to make a statement." Charlie stated going into cop mode.

An hour later we were all seated around the coffee table, much like we were the other night going over what happened. It was decided after much protesting from Jasper and at times my father that I was going to go about my life normally but they were going to put a trace on my phone just in case I was contacted again. They would also have a detail on me, Alice and Rose at all times reassuring Jasper and I that they were going to catch these sick individuals. Carlisle, Edward and Emmett left shortly after and dad let Jasper stay the night on the couch again.

The next day at school I kept looking around as if the woman was going to come around the corner any second. Rose and Alice tried keep things as normal as possible, but they too were having a hard time dealing. As I observed all of my classmates it seemed like all the high school drama with Mike, Lauran, and Jessica was just childish. There were bigger and more terrifying things in this world.

On Wednesday Rose, Alice, Jasper and I were sitting around the picnic table waiting for Edward and Emmett to come to spend lunch period with us.

"Hey." Emmett said when he walked up with three bags of take-out from Alice, Rose and I's favorite sushi restaurant.

"We came with substance." Edward remarked as he placed the drinks in front of us. Once we were done dividing the yummy goodness the conversation centered on our birthday tomorrow.

"We know you girls are use to going out dancing on your birthday, and we really don't want to take that from you, so Jasper, Emmett, and I came up with a compromise." Edward stated.

"Oh and what would that be." Rose asked as she grabbed the wasabi.

"Instead of going to the club you usually go to, we are going to take you girls to Vigil on Friday night after Jasper and Bella's performance. That way you ladies can have fun and be safe." Emmett supplied.

"Wow that actually sounds nice." Alice responded.

"Okay, so it is decided then. After our performance we will head over to Vigil and celebrate your birthday in style." Jasper said while stealing a piece of my Oshi Sushi. When the bell rang the girls and I were feeling better about being able to keep our tradition alive, even if none of us wanted to admit it that was one of the things that were bring us down. We were told to go about our lives as if everything was normal, but it was kind of hard when you were being stalked by psychopathic maniacs.

During my last period gym class I over hear Jessica talking to another one of the mindless sheep.

"Did you see that new guy that's been hanging around campus? He is like, too old to be a student, but I would totally hang with him, if you know what I mean."

"Gross he is like in his late twenty or something. What's he doing here anyway besides being a total creep?" Miss sheep asked while applying way to much lip gloss.

"I think I saw him looking at Bella more than once. I swear she acts all innocent and prudish, but I think she is a big slut, and I will find some way to prove it." Seethed Jessica

"You're just mad she is with Jasper, and Mike has some weird fixation with her. Honestly I don't see what they see in her, but whatever."

"I just think the apple doesn't fall far from the tree that's all." And with that Jessica grabbed her bag and left the locker room not noticing I heard the whole exchange.

I really wasn't sure what she meant by the last comment, but it that was not what I was worried about at the moment. I rushed out of the room to find Jasper, Rose and Alice waiting for me in the parking lot.

"Guys." I said a little out of breath.

"I just over heard Jessica talking in the locker room; she was talking about some guy she didn't recognize following me around. Do you think it could be one of them?" I asked nervously.

"I don't know Bella, you know how Jessica can gossip and half the stuff she says isn't even true. Just to be on the safe side lets head home and tell Charlie about this." replied Alice. We got in our vehicles and headed to my house; during the ride I had a feeling this was all going to come to a head, I just hoped we came out unscathed.
