A/N: BTW, THIS IS THE JACOB POV CHAP! WOOHOO! FINALLY! HAPPY READING!
A soft growl escapes my lips as my muscles shake and tremble painfully. Sam said it would get better shifting. Bull. It was still as painful as the first.
Almost as soon as I shift, I hear voices in my head. My stupid packmates. That word still feels new to me. This whole situation will never stop being weird. And apparently, there's even more than being a wolf. There's this whole "imprinting" thing. Everybody says that it's nothing like love at first sight, but it's more intense. But… what's more intense than that?
Oh, and there's vampires, too. That's what the Cullens are. I always thought that it was an urban legend -including the whole werewolves thing- but I always knew that something weird was going on with that family. They were always so weird. And pale.
I wonder if Bella knows what's going on. She's all I can think about right now. When will I get to see her? Does she know what's going on? Does she know that her leech boyfriend has been dreaming about sucking the life out of her ever since they met? The thought makes my tremble with anger.
I walk along the side of the border with my head held high. Just when I think that everything is quiet in the "pack mind," a yell so loud that it makes my head ache erupts.
"Guys! Vampire in the meadow! Bella and another girl are there! I picked up their scent!" A growl escapes my mouth as I race off after the pack. Bella runs throughout my mind over and over again. Please let her be okay.
I catch up with the pack fairly soon and I find the trees zooming past me. I have no clue how I haven't run into one yet. Who is that other girl Bella's with? She didn't mention anybody special.
We get to the meadow fairly soon, and I break out of the trees to see Bella sitting on her butt on the ground, staring forward at the vampire and the girl he has in his grip. His hand is wrapped tightly around her neck.
The vamp turns his head to look at us with his teeth bared. His face drops as his grip loosens and the girl lands on the ground, her hands flying up to her throat. "Unbelievable," the vamp whispers. Everything is loud enough for me to hear. I snarl at the leech, my teeth bared back as I crouch down in an attacking position.
My attention falters on the vampire ahead of us as my eyes fall on Bella. I lock eyes with her, and nothing happens. How can she not be my imprint?! I look over at the other girl, who stares back at me in shock.
I stare in the unknown girl's eyes, and I almost fall over. She's beautiful. The most beautiful thing in the world. It feels like the world shifts under my paws, and I just feel the most powerful need to protect her. To love her. It's overwhelming. I would be anything for her. Do anything for her. She's like air for me. I can't go without her anymore. And if I had to, I would die.
She seems to stare back at me with the same intense gaze, as if she feels the same thing. I right myself again and keep my eyes locked on hers. My gaze drops to her neck, then, and I see the bruises from the leech.
A vicious growl escapes my lips as I feel my feet lunge forward to the thing that had attacked my precious, beautiful girl. She was mine, and no one was going to get away with hurting her.
She scrambled to get Bella as the leech turned and ran. We ran after him, with my eyes filled with rage. We chased him out into the woods. We jaws snapped as a snarl escaped my lips. I feel an invisible tug behind me, as if it was linking me to the girl. It's then that I realize something. The girl is my imprint.
My steps falter again, but I quickly pick up my paws, racing forward, more anger flooding throughout my body. I lunge forward, my jaws latching onto the vampire's neck. The other pack members come up behind me, tearing the vampire limb-by-limb until there was nothing left of it. I snarl at the pieces all around the forest floor while the pack mates yell at me inside my mind.
All of their statements have something to do with my imprint. I thought it was only rare. I wanted Bella to be my imprint! I growl at the ground some more, still feeling the invisible tug with each step that my imprint takes.
Do I love Bella? Could it be just a silly crush? A huge part of me says maybe. Sam did say that your imprint was your one and only. Is this girl my one and only? My true love? Sam interrupts my thoughts.
Jacob, of course she is. I know Emily is for me, and that girl definitely is for you.
I look over at him and stare deep into his eyes. I know he's right. I grumble under my breath and run off, none of the boys bothering to call me back to them.
I run in my wolf form all the way home, picking up my clothes from where I had left them behind a tree. As soon as I form back into a regular human, all of the noise goes away in my head. Finally. Relief.
Not much relief, though. The images of the girl run through my mind. Her beautiful eyes. Something about them just draw me in. I run up the tiny stairs of my porch and run a hand through my now short hair.
I swing open the door and meet Dad's startled look as he sits at the kitchen table. The looks turns to concern as he sees my distressed one. "Jake? What's wrong?" I sigh and make my way over to the kitchen table, sitting myself next to him. A half eaten PB&J sits in front of him on a paper plate.
I blurt it right out. "I found my imprint." He stares at me for a few seconds, his face neutral. A heavy weight lies in the air that immediately disappears after the biggest grin I've ever seen him wear goes all the way across his face to his ears.
"Congrats, son! What's she like? When's the soonest I can meet her?" He claps my on the shoulder carefully, not because of my well-being, but for his. It would hurt him more than it would ever hurt me.
I respond with a nervous laugh and look down at my lap. "Well," I start cautiously. "She was almost killed by a vampire today. And I don't even know her or her name, or anything about her. I can already tell that she's amazing, though."
Though his grin slips a bit, he still smiles at me. "She was with Bella in the woods. I've never seen her before." If I have, I would have remembered her face. Dad rolls over to the counter and grabs the keys to the car and tosses them at me.
I catch them effortlessly in my hand and give my dad a confused look. "Go to the Swans' house. If she's there, get a chance to actually meet her. She's your one and only; you can't let her go." He gives me a nod of encouragement.
I stand. Screw it all. I need to meet her. The invisible tug is just drawing me to the girl.
It's impossible to ignore. As I walk past my dad, yelling a goodbye over my shoulder, I wonder if she feels it, too. That feeling. I just want to be around her. Next to her. With her.
I hop in the car and take a deep breath. Maybe she won't even be there. I hope she will. Maybe she left. Maybe the whole experience shocked her so much, that she left town. I quickly dismiss the thought and practically shove the keys into the ignition, turning them.
The car turns on beneath me. I slowly back out of the driveway and make my way towards Forks. My whole life might change today. And I think I'm okay with it.
