Chapter 21: A New Vampire

Sonic saw the sun through the blinds and sighed. The sunrise was on time. He changed into a bat and went inside his wardrobe. He could not wait until that night when Blaze woke up.

The day went by and turned to night. Sonic woke up and turned back into a hedgehog then walked out of his closet and looked at Blaze, wondering if she had changed.

Blaze started to stir a little and opened her eyes, weakly. "Wh...Sonic?"

"Blaze," Sonic said, and helped her up. She groaned, and Sonic could see that her skin was pale and she had fangs. When she looked in the mirror, she couldn't see her reflection, and Sonic didn't have one also.

Blaze looked at Sonic. "I'm a vampire now, too?"

Sonic looked at her and nodded. "Yes," he said, kissing her. "You look beautiful, Blaze. Welcome to eternity."

Blaze but a hand to her chest but couldn't feel a heartbeat. She sighed, looked at him, and smiled.

"It's something I gotta get used to," she told him.

"I know. So, what do you want to do now? I imagine you're...thirsty?"

Blaze felt something in her mouth tingle and realized it was her newly acquired fangs and she covered her mouth in shock. She nodded and Sonic chuckled. "Sonic, I'd just rather have animal blood then human. You said because you had human blood in the other time you couldn't have animal blood; maybe I could have animal blood first and see if it works for me so I don't have to kill humans."

"Okay," Sonic said. "The forest is near the city, which is where I'll be."

Blaze nodded. The two vampires walked outside, transformed into bats, and flew off to have their fill of blood for the night.

Blaze flew into the forest and the transformed back to a cat. Sonic landed beside her. "So, how do I...bite them?"

Sonic grinned. "Just sink your fangs into their neck and drink their blood until they die. If you leave them alive after you bite them, they'll turn."

Blaze swallowed, hard and nodded. "A...Alright." Sonic looked at her in concern. He watched her looked around; she noticed now that she was a vampire that she had enhanced senses. A few minutes later, she saw a deer and heard the blood rushing through its veins. Blaze swallowed her fear and lunged at the deer, fangs bared. She sank her fangs into the deer's neck and drained it of blood until the deer was dead. Blaze dropped the dead deer and sighed, then walked back to Sonic.

"Is that enough?" she asked him, hoping it was.

"For now," he said, nodding. "I'll be in the city if you need me."

Blaze nodded and watched Sonic run off into Station Square. She sighed and followed him but her eyes widened when she saw Sonic drinking the blood of humans and killing them. She couldn't believe it. This was what they had to do to survive now. Why did this happen to Sonic?

Meanwhile, Tails was taking another walk. His eyes widened when he saw Sonic drinking the blood of a human, but Blaze was next to him! What was she doing here? He ran closer and they turned to look at him. Tails' eyes widened as he saw that Blaze now had fangs too.

"Tails? What are you doing here?" she asked, sounding pretty worried for the fox.

"I...I was on my way to Sonic's house to apologize," he said. "But I find him out here...feeding...again." Tears started to come down his face as he said that. "Blaze, why do you have...fangs? Don't tell me that you're..."

Blaze's ears bent back and she looked down. "Yes, but unlike Sonic I'm feeding off of animals from the forest. So I don't have to kill people."

Tails sighed in relief, and looked at Sonic. "I...I'm sorry I acted that way; I was just shocked."

"It's fine, Tails," Sonic said.

"Blaze...why did you become a vampire?"

Blaze sighed. "Because I guess I didn't want Sonic to be alone in the future and both share the same feelings for each other, so...I thought okay...just as long as I do it my way."

Tails nodded. "That's a good reason."

Blaze looked at him and smiled. She looked at Sonic, who had killed some more humans, and walked up to her.

"I'm full," he said. "Let's go back to my house. Tails, do you want to hang out?"

"You can hang out with me for a bit, if you want."

The two vampires looked at each other, remembering they couldn't come into someone's house without being invited inside, and shrugged.

"Okay, then, Tails, but we gotta keep an eye on the time," Blaze told him.

"I know," Tails said. "You two can't stay up during the day." The two vampires nodded and turned into bats, following Tails his house. Once they got there, they turned back to normal as Tails went inside but found that Blaze and Sonic couldn't come in. "What's wrong?"

"We...err...can't come in unless you...invite us inside," Blaze told Tails, nervously.

Tails smiled and opened the door. "Then come on in!"

Sonic looked at Blaze and then put his hand inside the house to see if anything would happen. There wasn't anything preventing him from entering, and he smiled. Sonic went inside, followed by Blaze, and sat down on the couch.

"So, how did you become a vampire, Sonic?" Tails asked.

Sonic bent his ears back and sighed as Blaze looked at him in concern.

"Um...it happened while I was in Transylvania. A week ago, I was transported to the year 1888 and met a man named Van Helsing, who was searching for a vampire called Dracula. We found him but Dracula bit me, and I turned into a vampire. Eventually, Van Helsing killed him and I came back here."

Tails looked at him in shock. "Wow...that's interesting. Do you have any powers as a vampire?"

Sonic nodded and told him about the mind reading, hypnotism, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, weather controlling and transformations into a mist, bat and wolf.

"That's awesome," Tails said, and looked at Blaze. "You can do the same things also, right?"

Blaze nodded. "Of course I do use Pyrokinesis before I was turned."

Sonic smiled. He looked outside and sighed. "The sun will be up soon," he told Tails. "Blaze and I will be asleep during the day but you can come over at night."

Tails nodded.

"So, do we leave now?" Blaze asked Sonic, sounding unsure.

"Sure," Sonic told her, and walked out the door, followed by Blaze. Tails followed them and watched as they transformed into wolves and ran back to the house. Once they got back, the two vampires reverted to their normal forms and walked inside, closing the door behind them. Sonic saw that the sun was coming up, so he and Blaze turned into bats and flew into the closet, hanging upside down with their wings wrapped around their bodies, and fell asleep.

Blaze took awhile to get to sleep as she wasn't used to sleeping during the day, but when she finally got to sleep a smile was on her face.
