"Fine, fine. I'll meet her," Damon growls to Jenna Somers, his best friend's girlfriend.
"You'll love my niece, Damon," Jenna says.
At a crowded restaurant way cross town from where he lives, Damon waits impatiently, looking at the picture of the girl Rick had texted him. Then she walks in and their eyes meet. They both stared. Right there and then, the rest of the world disappeared but one boy and one girl, two hearts beating wildly.
To put it mildly, it was love at first sight. He smiles and she smiles back as she makes her way to his table. This is the day they waited for their whole lives.
In almost no time at all, they're standing in the front of the town's church, among their friends and family, repeating those sacred words that would tie them together forever. "Son, kiss your bride," the preacher says.
Damon raises Elena's veil. Like the night they met, time just stood still for them, their hearts beating wildly. He smiled. She smiled back. Then he kissed her. They both knew that this was another day they had been waiting for their whole lives.
He was holding her hand in the doctor's office when Meredith Fell looked up from the machine and grinned. "Congratulations, you're having twins," she says.
"What genders?" Elena asks.
"One boy and one girl," Meredith replies.
The monitor shows the image of their unborn babies and their fast little heartbeats. Damon smiles at Elena and she smiles back. Yet another day they had been waiting for their whole lives. For a moment, the whole world revolved around one boy and one girl.
