Jinora Lupin worried. It seemed almost like a duty to her now that she as a mother simply had to do. She worried about small and minor things like that upcoming presentation she had to give at St. Mongos. She worried about big and important things like her son's lycantherapy and his so called vampire girlfriend.

She found it hard to believe that Remus' girlfriend was a vampire. If she believed everything that his silly little friends wrote to her then she would also believe that her son dove into the black lake every night after swallowing gillyweed to hang out with his wife who happened to be the chief mermaid. What a silly thing to say! But Remus had not rejected the fact so...

Against her better will she began preparing for the worst. It did make her a bit of a hypocrite since her own son was a werewolf but she could barely help herself! If this girl really was a vampire then she would have to be cautious. Vampires were known for being cunning and deceptive. John would jump right into it in his usual excited manner. Him and his curiosity...

She stood by the kitchen window. Her house was on the edge of their town, surrounded by vast grass fields. The tall, swaying grass looked golden in the afternoon sun and birds chirped from the dark forest that stood on the edge of the meadow. Every time she looked at those woods and the old, rickety hut that was barely visible through the thick vegetation she felt fear and resentment churn inside her. It was through those trees that years ago she had heard her little son scream "MOMMY DADDY HELP!"

She was broken out of her mussing by the racket of her husband's car engine. Immediately she turned off the water tap and dried her hands on her apron. She twisted the knots lose and hung it on the hook before racing to the fromt porch to greet her son. The car pulled up and one of the doors was thrown open. Remus raced out with a broad grin on his face. She laughed as she hugged him. It was good to see him so careless sometimes.

As she moved away she inspected the girl who was standing behind Remus. The girl twisted her fingers together as her eyes met Jinora's. The eyes that met her were not cunning, just nervous containing the naivety of youth. Some of her worries dissipated but the danger was not fully elevated.

"You must be Erica" she said with all the sweetness she could muster "I am Remus' mother".

"Pleased to meet you" Erica said respectfully as she accepted her hand.

"Now about that interesting thing your friends were saying" John egged them on, jabbing Remus on his shoulder.

For the first time in her life Jinora was glad of John's bluntness. She was virtually on the tips of her toes to know the truth.

"That is a...cute story dad" Remus mumbled as he scratched his neck looking flustered.

"A cute story?" John inquired with an arched eyebrow "great! You know how much your old man loves those". With that John began leading them all towards the kitchen. Jinora had to smile. Something about the situation seemed...ordinary. If Erica bought that to the family...maybe she wasn't that bad.

OOOOO

"She absolutely and without a doubt hates me!" Erica moaned as soon as Remus' parents had exited the room.

Remus looked up from the newspaper to find Erica biting her nails at the speed Peter would devour sweet bananas. He rolled his eyes at the carpet before sliding down onto it so that he was sitting in front of Erica's legs. He placed his hands on her knees and she looked down. "My mom doesn't hate you" he assured her as soon as their eyes had met "she is just a little conserved that's all".

She stood up so fast Remus was knocked down. "She doesn't trust me at all!" Erica cried dramatically as she began pacing. Remus got up and brushed his jumper as he coolly watched her walk from one end of the room to the other.

"It's fine" Remus sighed "she is worried and well she has a reason to..." Remus stopped himself there but he knew that she understood what he meant.

She stopped and her expression darkened. "Of course" she grumbled, her eyes downcast "after all no sensible mother would want their children dating a...monster".

"hey hey!" Remus exclaimed as he realized how much this was worrying her. He got to his feet and wrapped his arms around her so that his chest was against her back "she is just a little worried. We both know that are good and bad vampires out there. We can't blame her foe being careful. She will like you very much very soon!"

"I will take your word for it" she mumbled as she turned around and allowed him to kiss her forehead.

OOOOO

It was late at night when Remus and Erica went upstairs. As soon as they left the living room Jinora rounded at John and demanded "what do you think of Erica?".

"She seems fine Nora" John shrugged as he praid his wife's hands off his collar and straightened it "she is alot like Remus and i think this will be good for him. She will understand his peril perfectly".

Jinora looked at the staircase feeling almost angry at John. How could he just trust that girl like that. She didn't know what it was really but she felt like this girl should stay away, that she would cause nothing but worry to her family. Erica did indeed seem like a fine girl and she had to reluctantly admit that she had never seen Remus happier but what was that nagging pit in her stomach?

OOOOO

"Remus that is the most ridiculous thing ever!" Erica exclaimed, pointing her index finger at the poster that hung on his wall "they have lost almost all the quidditch matches they have ever played!"

"No they have not!" Remus argued as he folded his shirt and placed it in his closet "they only lost two matches in this season! And that is a lot lesser then your team might i add".

"Excuse me! Puddlemore United is yet to lose even one match this season!"

"Oh yeah thats right sorry! Oh but wait...they messed up the last tornament so much that they were last in line for this one and have only played one match!" Remus said matter-of-factly.

"Their seeker broke his three ribs!" she cried.

"only because he was too slow to move out of the way of a bludger in time..." he interjected

"the opposing team were cheating! They were totally just trying to knock him out..."

"that happened to James plenty of time and he never ended up in the hospital.. get off me!"

It seemed that James was not the only one who took the insult of his favorite quidditch team as a personal insult. When Remus' mother entered she found them in a heap on the floor, dissolved in fits of laughter.

OOOOO
