Chapter 21

Angel jumped to his feet when the door to the Slytherin Common Room opened and Calix stepped inside caring an unconscious Alexandria. "You can't be in here," he hissed at him, as he came rushing forward. "And she as hell can't be in here. She's not…"

"Relax, O'Conner," Calix said with a growl. "We needed a safe place to hide her. And the last place anyone would check for her would be here."

"Well she can't stay here!" Angel barked, as he moved to place himself between Calix and the stairs. "If you leave her here, I'll go…"

"What tell Tabi?" Calix threw out at him, before letting out a sigh. He knew that brining Alexandria here maybe a bad idea, especially if they ran across Jade or some other Slytherin that really didn't like her. He had kind of hoped to run across Taka before he had run across Angel. At least with Taka there was some kind of understanding when it came to Alexandria. Taka thought of her as a friend above all else.

"Don't bring her into this," Angel started, as he looked down at the dark haired beauty in his arms. He was actually surprised that Calix was doing this. They had a history together. True they never crossed blades per say, they had come to an agreement to not to. Alexandria seemed to have attempted to make friends with everyone out there in the school. When she couldn't, she just let it be that. She respected them and that was how it was. "You can't…"

"I can and I will," Calix replied, as he pushed past Angel and headed up to the steps to the girl's dorms. He heard Angel's footsteps on the steps behind him and knew he would follow. He bypassed the shared rooms and headed to the more private rooms. He pushed opened the one marked for Samantha and took her inside. He gently set her on the bed before turning to look at Angel. "Am I going to have to make sure that you don't kill her?"

Angel smirked as he leaned against the door and crossed his arms over his chest. He had no doubt that a fight with Calix would be an interesting one. They both grew up in very powerful families. But Calix was from a well known lineage, one where Angel was sure he was taught magic since he could crawl. Going up against him, was almost a death wish. His eyes drifted over to Alexandria, she looked so peaceful. He hadn't seen her this way in a long time. The last time he had really spoken to her outside of coming back this year, had been in words of hatred and pain. He had watched the fire almost flicker out of her eyes, when she learned of what all had happened. She had come to him to get it all clear and after that, she didn't speak a single word to him. She did her best to avoid everyone mostly.

"Kill her?" Angel threw it out there. He ran a hand over the back of his neck. True there were times where she was beyond annoying and the thought had crossed his mind, but then his mind went back to their little tiff in the hut earlier. He had never really seen that side of her before, and as much as it scared him it excited him at the same time. Gone was the niave sweet girl he had originally taken interest in, to be replaced by a controlled young woman. She gave him no quarter and took what he dished out with a single sound. "The thought has crossed my mind a few times, but now…"

"You don't know…" Calix answered for him. He swore then as he checked the clock on the wall. Samantha had been gone for a while now. Too long for his taste after everything they had just encountered. "I need to go check on the others. There was an attack in the main hall, by Armanya and a group of Dementers. A few students were hurt in the attack and Samantha took them to the infirmary. Tabitha was going to go report this to the Headmistress."

Angel's eyes widen at the mention of the school being under attack. "So what is the plan then?"

"Stay alive," Calix muttered, as he headed for the door. He shot a glance over at the bed one more time. He really hated leaving her with him but right now he didn't have much of a choice. When you were in a battle, you didn't have time to sit and hold someone's hand. You had to get back on your feet and face the next wave. Right now Calix had no idea what was going on and that un-nerved him slightly. "You hurt her, I'll be chewing on your bones for the next few years." His eyes flashed with that statement.

"Go, wolfie." Angel pulled a chair over beside the bed and sat down on it. "I'll baby-sit." He let out a sigh as he ran a hand over his face. What was he doing? He didn't want to get into the middle of all this drama. He had heard the rumors about what was going to happen. He swore to Tabitha at the start of this term, he didn't want to be in any of the child-like drama. So now he is stuck smack dack where he doesn't want to be. In the middle of it all.

"Be back as soon as I can." Calix then took off, heading for the infirmary, where he hoped someone could surely tell him what the hell was going on.
