I got stuck… So this is what came out…
Shane POV
"But Sir!"
"I said no, Mr Collins. You are here to work for me."
"She needs me!"
"One more argument out of you and I will personally make sure that you regret it."
I'd just asked to leave early for Claire's appointment and Mr Quigley, the manager, was being relentless.
Didn't he get it?
Then again. He is a fat slob with no life past running a slimy restaurant. He wouldn't understand the 'relationship' part of life if it hit him in the face with a fish as slimy as he is.
Even standing here I could literally feel the heat coming off of him and smell the grease of the food he ate for breakfast.
It was sickening.
"Now. I believe that you have a job to be doing?" he patronised. Looking pointedly at the door.
I sighed heavily then turned. Knowing that I had no choice. I could walk out anyway but I'd get a shouting at from Claire. She'd argue that she was not worth losing a job over.
"Damn it!" I cursed as I came back into the main kitchen.
"What did I tell you?" Kyle asked as he walked past me. He was a server and had come to collect a tray of breadsticks. He had brown hair and Green eyes with a slight dusting of freckles over his nose. He was a good friend to me so I just flipped him off sarcastically before returning to chopping meat. With more ferocity though as I got my stress at my situation out on the lamb leg in front of me.
Once I'd cooled off enough I called my break and called Claire. She didn't pick up so instead I sent a text.
Quigley is dumb. I'll be late :(
I typed quickly then clicked 'send' before going back to work.
"I'll be seeing you Wednesday Shane?" Kyle queried as he got his stuff out of his locker.
"Yup. At least, I hope so. Quigley's a complete-"
"Yes. I agree. He's still in the vicinity though so leave those thoughts for outside." He replied, nudging my shoulder playfully.
"Okay mate. Yeah. Thanks. See ya then." I replied before starting to jog for the abortion clinic.
"Good luck!" he shouted after me. I turned and held my thumb up before turning back and began sprinting.
Upon reaching the clinic I rushed in and looked around for her. She wasn't anywhere within that small cramped room. There were 4 neat lines of chairs with only a couple of girls and women sitting there. None of them Claire.
"She must've gone in already." I muttered to myself in order to try and calm my racing heart. I noticed the reception to my left then so went to see the young receptionist.
"Hello Sir. How can I help you?" she asked politely.
"Claire Danvers? Has she gone into her appointment? I'm her boyfriend you see."
She smiled kindly.
"I'll just check for you."
"Thank you."
She typed something into the keyboard then clicked a few times whilst shaking her head slowly.
"What's wrong?" I demanded. Panic beginning to creep in.
"I can't seem to find her name on any of the booked in appointments."
My breath hitched.
"So she never even signed in?" I asked. Being careful to keep my voice even.
"I'm sorry, but no."
Why would she not show up? Maybe she was at Myrnin's or on the university campus. No. This was too important for her to just simply forget.
"Thank you anyway." I said then rushed out. If she had changed her mind then there would only be one place she'd be.
I burst into the Glass House and slammed the door behind me.
"Shane?" Michael asked as he came down the stairs.
"Is Claire here?"
"No. Why? She left here to go the appointment. I offered to drop her off but she said that she'd rather walk."
I took a deep breath. I had a really bad feeling about this.
"She never turned up at the clinic."
Michael's eyes widened and he froze.
"Are you sure?"
"As anything. Even the receptionist was confused."
"Then if she isn't here or there, where is she?"
Where is she indeed? Find out next chapter! Thanks for the reviews!
