This is so random too, ha!
Just, push, !
"Ryder, why didn't you call the men who's job is to actually carry in the boxes?" Marley asked her husband of five years, waddling down a few steps as she used one hand on the railing and the other hand on her pregnant belly.
"Save money and I'm strong enough." Ryder said as he carried a box from the rental truck into the new family home they just bought for their growing family, starting with their first child. "I can do all of this."
"Can I at least help?" She asked, reaching the last step.
"No it's okay Marley. I've got everything." He said walking passed her. He stopped to lean in and peck her lips. "Besides you know what the doctor said. 'No carrying heavy objects, your muscles and joints are weak as you progress.' Not going to risk anything."
"Can't I just carry in one tiny thing?" She asked him.
"The pillows are in the back of the car." He said. "You can get that inside?"
A while later Ryder was pushing the mattress into the house. At this point he was fatigued and wanted a break, but he wanted everything inside of the house. Even if it stayed in the living room overnight.
Marley rested in the living room, laying on the couch and reading a novel, as she heard Ryder grunge from the front door. She laughed as she got up and walked over. "Need help?"
"No!" Ryder yelled, pushing again.
"Turn it the other way, it'll fit better." Marley told him. "Just a suggestion."
"I've…oh…." Ryder stopped and turned the mattress to the side and pushed forward again. "It worked."
"Need help now?"
"No, I've got this."
"We haven't even set up a formal bed."
"Don't worry about it." Ryder kissed her forehead. "I've got this."
A while later Marley finished making lunch for Ryder and herself. She made his favorite sandwich; toasted ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato and bacon. And for herself she made PB&J with bits of crushed up potato chips. She settled the two plates down on the set up table then waddled over the stairs in the other room to call Ryder down.
"Ryder! Lunch!" She called up. Silence. "Ryder?"
"Coming… just wait a few minutes!" He called down.
About ten minutes later Ryder jumped down the bottom of the stairs and strolled into the kitchen as Marley poured a glass of lemonade into his cup. "Why are you so cheery?"
"I managed to get that upstairs door to open."
"You locked yourself in?"
"Yep."
"Which door?"
"Across from us, to the left."
"The nursery room!?" She exclaimed, automatically worrying about not being able to reach her child in any emergency… because of a stupid door.
"No, that's the other door. Remember you picked out that frigging clown sticker with the 'My Name Is', followed by the blank spot for the name?" He told her. "No, our room. But I managed. I just thought to myself and said 'Push! Push Ryder!' and got out."
"Ryder Lynn, just so you know… in a state of an emergency in this house and I'm inside of that bedroom, or our baby is in there for some reason and I'm outside of the bedroom, I'm going to be too occupied to focus on anything but my baby's safety."
"But—but I fixed it with the screws!" He said. "I'll fix them all I promise. And I got the mattress upstairs even though we still need the frame set up. I promise it'll all be fine. Just a few more boxes to get into the living room and we're done unpacking."
"Okay."
"I'm just gonna nap for about two hours after this and then finish it up." Ryder told her. "Wanna go out tonight?"
"Sure!" She grinned.
Three hours later Ryder woke up to the sound of Marley's sweet voice and shaking him gently. He turned over thinking they were in their bed but was met with the couch instead.
"Hi sleepy," She leaned down and kissed the top of his nose. "Better shower soon to go out."
"I've gotta finish the boxes…"
"I did those already." Marley said.
"Wait…what?" Ryder sat up to meet her face to face. "No, I was going to do that."
"No honey, you did enough today already." Marley wrapped her arms around his neck. "I just wanted you to have a break, you've done a lot already."
"Your pregnant. Your doctor said—"
"One of the new neighbors offered to help with the bigger and heavier boxes, so I did the smaller and lighter boxes. And another neighbor of ours likes fixing things so he said he'd come by tomorrow and help with the cringed doors. His wife likes to step up bed frames and such so she did those with the help of her two brothers and a cousin." She explained. "See? Told you I could help you."
"And I though I just married you for the sex." he smirked.
"Shut up!" She laughed.
