A/N: Wow, it's been a really, really long time. Sorry! I don't really have an excuse, but I do have an update. ENJOY!
~PercyJackson~
"I Go Down With the Ship," Ares began. "Ooh, this does sound exciting."
"I don't think it's a problem for Percy," Apollo said.
"The others, though," Hermes said, glancing at Clarisse, Grover, and Annabeth (who had remained laying with her head on Percy's lap).
"This could be a problem," Apollo finished.
…But the monster's attention wasn't on the Fleece.
"What else would it be on?" Artemis asked, frowning. "It's his prized possession."
"Yes, but there is a new player that has joined the field," Athena pointed out.
"Don't make it sound like some kind of board game," Aphrodite said, rolling her eyes at the goddess of wisdom.
... "I am not a traitor."
"That's right!" Chris cheered, grinning. "No way could Tyson ever be called a traitor."
"Well," Clarisse said, shrugging against her boyfriend. "He kind of is, in the eyes of some of his kin."
"He's not like those Cyclopes," Chris said.
"That's right," Leo agreed. "There are good Cyclopes out there, he's not a traitor. More like Polyphemus is."
… spitting salt water and growling.
"It was still funny," Clarisse said, smirking.
"I have to agree," Grover said with a grin. "Though at the time I have to say it was the furthest thing from my mind."
"Would have been awesome to see, though," Connor commented thoughtfully.
"We'll have to tape it," Hermes said to Apollo, who nodded in agreement. That would make a wonderful gif one day.
… "We'll fight him together."
"Ugh," Ares said, lowering the book and wrinkling his nose. "That is like, the worst kind of sap ever."
"I think it's sweet," Aphrodite said with a smile.
"And stupid," Athena said. "Perseus has not had the best of luck against Polyphemus. He'd do well to leave Tyson and get away."
"Like that would ever happen," Thalia said, rolling her eyes.
… leaping over his head as the water blasted him onto the beach.
"Wooo! Yeah!" Connor and Travis cheered.
"That is awesome," Leo agreed with a grin.
"I guess it's cool," Jason said. "But not as cool as my being able to fly."
Leo pursed his lips as Piper patted Jason's arm, grinning at how competitive he could get.
"Yeah, flying is pretty cool," Leo agreed.
… "So? Satyrs good eating!"
"That's not what the Fleece was created for," Thalia said.
"Yeah," Grover agreed, nodding to Thalia. "Exactly."
"I don't think he cares about that," Nico pointed out.
Thalia stuck her tongue out at Nico, who replied in kind. Ares rolled his eyes before glancing back down at the book.
... "Father Poseidon, curse this thief!"
Poseidon frowned. "I don't play favorites," he said with a shake of his head.
"Sure you do," Hermes said with a grin. "Unfortunately for Polyphemus, he isn't one of your favorites."
Poseidon shook his head once more. "I still wouldn't play favorites, not in that sort of situation." He glanced at Percy, who lifted a shoulder and offered a lopsided smile. Poseidon smiled back.
… "Humans not the same! Nasty, tricky, lying!"
"I'm pretty sure he just described himself," Piper said. "After all, he did use the Fleece to trick satyrs into coming to the island."
"Too true," Jason agreed, grinning at Piper.
"Where are you? Help me!"
Tyson stopped.
"He won't listen to you," Chris said. "He's too good for any of your lies."
"You do know that Polyphemus isn't here, right?" Clarisse asked her boyfriend.
Chris shrugged. "Just pointing out that fact."
…Percy pizza with extra olives.
"Tyson!" several demigods shouted, jumping to their feet, eyes wide.
"How could he do that to his own kind?" Hazel asked, tears shimmering in her eyes at the thought of how hurtful, both physically and emotionally, that would have been for Tyson.
"I told you he just described himself. Nasty, tricky, liar," Piper said.
…but I managed to leap a little bit higher.
"Don't tell me," Apollo began, chuckles escaping from his mouth. "That you got him in the…in the…"
"BUTT!" Hermes burst out laughing, falling from his throne, Apollo not far behind them. Several demigods began laughing too, tears in their eyes.
"We definitely need to get that on tape," Apollo gasped through tears. "Oh, I can just imagine that."
Even Ares was chuckling at the image that statement had brought and it took several minutes for the laughing to die down. Finally, Ares wiped the tears from his eyes and began reading once more, still grinning ear to ear.
... But I swallowed down my fear.
Percy sucked in a breath, that hand that gripped Annabeth's tightening on hers as he bit into his bottom lip. His back felt as though it was on fire and ever inch of him felt bruised. And beneath it all was the overwhelming desire to just run away from everything.
"You okay?" Annabeth asked, voice soft.
"Yep, great," Percy replied through clenched teeth, equally as soft. "Just ready to be done with this."
"You and me both, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth said, squeezing his hand in return.
… and I knew I couldn't do it. It just wasn't right.
"When will you learn," Athena asked with sigh and a shake of her head.
"He's done enough damage," Poseidon said. "They should be able to make it clear. There's no need to kill."
"They'd all be safer if he just did," Athena replied back.
"I'm with you on that," Ares agreed. "It's stupid, leaving an enemy alive who could still come after you."
"There is nothing wrong with mercy," Hestia said, glancing around. "And I should think we should all be grateful that Perseus is merciful."
Some of the other gods nodded in agreement. Others shook their heads. Percy just shrugged and brushed his free hand through Annabeth's hair once more. He couldn't explain why he'd been so hesitant to kill Polyphemus off. Even now, he wasn't quite sure. He just knew that it hadn't felt right, still didn't. Knew that leaving him alive had been the right thing to do.
…Tyson and I plunged into the waves.
"See, they will be at the ship shortly, and will soon be out of reach," Poseidon said. "Polyphemus will not follow them after that. Not blind and hurting."
"I don't know," Ares said. "They did steal the Fleece. People have done stupider things for less."
… "Yeah, Jackson! In your face, Cyclops!"
"Shut up!" Thalia, Leo, Will, and Piper shouted at Clarisse.
"What are you thinking?" Thalia demanded.
"That we're too far away from Polyphemus for him to do us any harm," Clarisse said, though she sunk into the couch cushions and refused to meet anyone's eye. "And I'll admit," she said after a couple of seconds passed. "That I was stupid."
"Good enough for me," Percy said with a grin.
Thalia huffed, still glaring at Clarisse, though the others seemed to calm down.
…"Clarisse!" I yelled, unable to stand it. "Shut up!"
"I am sorry," Clarisse said, still not meeting anyone's eye.
"It's okay," Chris said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and glaring at anyone who looked their way. "You all made it out safely, in the end."
… listed forward like it was going down a playground slide.
"Unfortunately, the sea takes down ships faster than one would think," Poseidon said, eyes grave. "And the suction created will pull everything down with it, no matter how strong a swimmer you are."
Athena cursed under her breath at this, glaring at Ares' daughter before glancing at her own. Annabeth was still laying on Percy's lap, eyes still closed. Athena glared at the sea spawn and then sighed. What was done, was done. Although both Ares' daughter and Poseidon's son played a part in the situation her daughter now found herself in.
"I guess it's a good thing Percy's there, then," Apollo said.
Hermes nodded in agreement.
"Yes," Artemis said, turning to look at the boy in question. "A very good thing."
… which flashed in the water like a wave of new pennies.
"The weight didn't help any," Annabeth said. "Not like we would have made progress without it either."
"It was terrifying," Grover said. "There was nothing I could do but keep fighting the current, and even then, the current was winning."
"Not something I ever want to experience again," Clarisse agreed, jaw clenched.
…Yes. Tyson's voice, loud and clear in my head.
"No way, you can talk to him telepathically under the water?" Chris asked, eyes wide.
"Yep," Percy said, smiling. He remembered how startled he'd been when he first found out, but it was pretty awesome now.
"Most who live in the sea can communicate telepathically," Poseidon said. "It is the easiest way to do so."
"That's really cool," Leo said.
Jason frowned a little. Telepathic communication was not something he could do. But he did have to admit, that was cool.
… adding my voice to Tyson's: RAINBOW! We need you!
"Rainbow?" Apollo asked, before realization dawned in his eyes. "Oh, that's right, Tyson's hippocampi. I'd forgotten he'd named it Rainbow."
"I can't think of a better help to call on," Poseidon said, looking relieved. "I am glad I sent them to you at the start of your journey."
"And I'm glad Tyson made friends with Rainbow," Percy said. "Otherwise, him and the others might not have been close enough to help in time."
"It's that luck on yours once again," Thalia said. "Good and bad, mixed together."
"I guess," Percy said with a shrug.
… "I did it! I finally sank Nobody!"
"Does he realize that if that's the case that he basically lost the Golden Fleece to the seas?" Frank asked.
Nico shrugged. "Who knows?"
"Sounds like he got a pretty happy ending, regardless," Hazel said.
"Not sure he deserves a happy ending," Nico said.
…She slumped against the neck of the hippocampus and instantly fell asleep.
"Mmm," Annabeth said, wiggling to get slightly more comfortable on the couch. "I feel like I could sleep for a week at least."
Percy chuckled, squeezing her hand gently. "I'm just glad we all made it," he said.
"I think we all are," Grover said.
… "You're a genius," I told Annabeth quietly.
"See," Percy said, a small smile on his lips as he fought back a yawn. "I did tell you."
Annabeth cracked an eye open. "While I was asleep and couldn't hear you," she said, before yawning widely.
"True," Percy said, giving in to his own yawn. "But I still told you."
Then I put my head against the Fleece, and before I knew it, I was asleep, too.
"Finished," Ares said, closing the book. "And not nearly as exciting as I was hoping it would be."
"I thought it was plenty exciting," Persephone said. She glanced over at the demigods, who were all yawning.
"Did you get any sleep last night?" Hera demanded.
"Huh?" Percy asked, glancing up at her as he yawned once again. "Yeah, plenty. It's the book, I swear."
Hera squinted her eyes at him. "I would believe that, if not for the fact that only two of you are mentioned as having fallen asleep. As well as knowing the effects of the reading wear off as soon as the chapter is over."
"Hmm, I guess," Percy said. He released Annabeth's hand in favor of stretching his arms above his head. "Can we have breakfast?"
Hera opened her mouth to answer, but was cut off by Poseidon. "That's a wonderful idea. I'm starving."
Many of the other gods and goddesses murmured their agreement, standing up and making their way out of the throne room, the children not far behind.
Annabeth groaned, rolling off of Percy's lap and onto the ground before pushing herself to her feet.
"Food?" Percy asked, also getting his feet.
"Yeah," Annabeth agreed. "Sounds good to me."
Percy took her hand and the followed the others out of the throne room and towards the dining hall.
