Leaving the building after the emotionally tumultuous meeting, John once again had a feeling he was being followed. This time, he didn't care. He had more important things to worry about, such as how he would locate Morgan. Unfortunately, his mind kept drifting back to Jedikiah. He found it difficult to think about anything else. Needing to get back to the Refuge, he headed to the nearest subway station.

There weren't many passengers on the train, so John was able to find a seat. As his thoughts kept going back to Jedikiah, it frustrated him. He became restless; his leg bouncing from anxiety. It continued for a few minutes before he jumped up and walked over to the doors. At the next stop, more people got on than got off which pushed him further into the car. He held onto the overhead bar. Focusing on a subway map on the wall, he remembered how that was what he and Astrid were looking at when Jedikiah caught up to him. As soon as that memory cropped up, he shook his head and moved to the front of the train.

"Since when did this trip take so long?"

John was now regretting the decision to take the subway instead of finding a place to teleport. Then again, he hadn't consciously made it. When he left the meeting, he was so upset he automatically headed to the subway. He tried to quiet his mind, but it was determined to focus on Jedikiah.

Since re-gaining his memories and returning from his sabbatical, John had tried to block anything having to do with the man. He felt it was the only way he could move on. It wasn't easy seeing as the Refuge had been Ultra Headquarters, but he was making progress. He'd started to think of it as the Tomorrow People's and not Ultra. The redecorating the group had done helped to at least change the appearance. His need to be with his kind again, particularly Charlie, Russell, Cara and Stephen, also played a part. They helped him through it.

"Maybe they could help me find Morgan."

John wished he had the connections Jedikiah did, then finding Morgan would take no time at all. Suddenly it occurred to him he may still have a number for one of his more important contacts. He had found a business card stuck in one pocket of his backpack when he was settling in at the Refuge. He couldn't remember whether or not he threw it away.

The train slowed down then stopped. John looked out the windows and didn't see the next station. He closed his eyes and shook his head. "Not now."

"There is some congestion up ahead. We will be on our way again as soon as it clears. Sorry for the delay," announced the conductor.

That was exactly the message he expected to hear and was dreading.

"I need out of here."

Ignoring his responsible side, which was telling him he can't do it, he moved to the door leading to the next car. He slid it open, closed it then jumped to the side and teleported out. He was pretty sure no one noticed, but honestly, at this point, he didn't care if they had.

As soon as he got back to the Refuge, he teleported to his room and started searching for the card.

Cara sensed John's return and sought him out. She still had a connection to him, even though it was not as strong as the one she shared with Stephen. With John, she knew when he was experiencing a strong emotion. Right now, John was upset and he desperately needed something. She couldn't really figure out what that was.

John was tearing his room apart in the hopes of finding that all-important business card when there was a knock at his door.

"Come in," he said without stopping.

"Hi John, how did it ..." Cara started to say before realizing he wasn't paying any attention to her. She'd never seen him so frantic. It scared her. "What's wrong? What are you looking for?"

"It has to be here," John said out loud more to himself than anyone else.

Cara walked over to him and turned him to face her. "What are you looking for?"

"A business card, I thought it was here, but can't find it," John turned around and went back to pushing various items around. "... I need to find it."

Realizing this was about more than just a missing business card, Cara spoke again. "John, sit down."

"I can't. It's got to be here," John said as he moved to another shelf and started throwing the various objects off it and onto his bed.

"John, stop! I'll help you find it, but please just stop for a moment. Tell me what happened at your meeting."

John stopped, but didn't turn around. He held onto the shelving unit and leaned onto it, resting his head against the shelf. "Nothing," he whispered.

"It wasn't nothing, John. You were meeting with lawyers, are you in trouble?"

"No," John replied, "Jedikiah ..."

Cara waited a few moments for him to continue then internally swore at having to draw this out of him, "Jedikiah what?"

John turned around and continued to lean on the shelving unit for support, still not facing her. "He left everything to me, well not everything, but Morgan hasn't been found so it all defaulted to me."

As the magnitude of his statement hit Cara, all she could say was "wow."

"I don't want it, I want nothing to do with anything from him," John said, finally looking at Cara. "That's why I need to find this business card. Once Morgan comes forward, it can all go to her and I can be rid of this ... of him."

John turned around and started looking again.

"John, stop."

"It has to be here!"

"You don't need it. I know where Morgan is."

John froze, turned around and stared at her.

"I'll take you to her."

The next day, John and Cara took a train out of the city. As they made their way to Morgan's safe house, Cara told John what happened.

"After the Founder was defeated and you disappeared, Stephen agreed to protect Morgan, so he had me help her. It was difficult for me, but Stephen insisted I had to be the one."

"Difficult, how?"

"Well, you were gone and she was another reminder of that time. It didn't help that we never got along."

"Oh, right," John chuckled. "If I remember correctly, there was some jealousy involved?"

"No ... well, maybe that had something to do with it," Cara smirked at the memory of how she felt when she saw Morgan cutting John's hair. She shook her head then continued. "That and the fact she was having Jedikiah's kid didn't help either."

"So, are you buddies now?"

"Not exactly, but we have a better understanding of each other."

"Why did she need protecting?"

"Morgan showed up at the Refuge looking for you soon after you disappeared. When we told her you were last seen with Jedikiah, it spooked her and she asked Stephen to help hide her. It really scared her when she found out you were gone. She was afraid of something happening to her and the baby."

"Why was she so scared?"

"When I was helping her settle in, she told me that with all the enemies Jedikiah had made and with not knowing where he was, she felt exposed. Apparently, Jedikiah had ways of protecting her and she just didn't know if those were still in place. He hadn't contacted her since that night he found out she was pregnant. She hasn't forgiven him for almost killing her, yet she was curious to find out how he felt about the baby. She wanted to see if once that knowledge sunk in if it had changed him."

John was uncomfortable with all this talk about Jedikiah, but he did want to know more about what happened with Morgan. He remembered relating to her more back in the Lair because of their shared connection with the man. She had a better understanding of what Jedikiah had done to and for him. She seemed to know what made the man tick. She knew Jedikiah better than anyone, even John himself, and he respected her for that.

"Next stop is ours," Cara said, interrupting John's thoughts.

As they stood up and moved closer to the doors. John once again felt like he was being watched. He discreetly surveyed the subway car.

~ "Cara, stay calm, but we have company." ~

Cara looked at him.

~ "Over my right shoulder, two guys in suits that seem a little too preoccupied with that poster for night classes ... for medical coding. Don't exactly seem the type for that." ~

She walked around John to have a look without drawing attention.

~ "Got them. What do we do about it?" ~

"I'm hungry, are there any good places to eat around here?" John asked the question a little bit louder than he normally would. He then turned to Cara, giving her a knowing look.

"Yeah, I know a place that has amazing sandwiches."

John and Cara exited the train and headed for a nearby diner. The two men in suits waited until the last possible moment to leave the car then followed them.

At the restaurant, John and Cara requested a window seat. They placed their order and waited.

~ "There they are, across the street by the pawn shop." ~

As their sandwiches were delivered, John asked the waitress where the men's room was.

"It's at the back on the left, but it's one of those unisex ones, so there may be a line."

"Okay. Thank you."

John stood up and laid his hand on Cara's and said, "I'll be right back."

~ "If I don't return in 10 minutes, get out of here. Do not interfere. Understand?" ~

Cara looked at him. She wanted to tell him she could help, to let her, but she just nodded.

"Don't take too long," Cara called after him.

Luckily there was a short line for the restroom, only one person before him. As soon as John got in, he locked the door and teleported out.

John landed in the alley next to the pawn shop. The two guys that were following him were right at the corner, still watching the diner. John stayed close to the wall, he didn't want to risk anyone from the diner spotting him, and walked right up behind the men.

"May I help you?"

The two men gave each other a knowing glance then turned around.

The fact that they were not alarmed by John showing up behind them concerned him.

"Mr. Young, we need to talk."
