Chapter XXI
"Wake up wake up wake up!"
Ven groaned as his bed was shaken by the jumping of the girls, pulling the blanket over his head and vainly trying to get more sleep. He'd practically been up all night texting Vanitas...
The shaking stopped, and he barely had the time to think oh thank the heavens before he felt himself be lifted, blankets and all.
"Rise and shine, Goldilocks," a low voice rasped, causing his eyes to snap open and an unmanly shriek to escape him as he realized that Terra was holding him in his arms.
Laughing, the brunet threw him back on the bed and plopped on top of him, followed by the girls. Ven felt as his lungs were slowly crushed by all the weight, letting out a squeak.
"Up yet?" Terra asked, sounding amused.
"Get...off...fatass..." he gasped out, struggling underneath them.
"Only if you'll be my Valentine."
The struggling immediately stopped, blue eyes popping wide, as a very eloquent reply of "What?" escaped him.
Terra chuckled. "We're both dateless losers, so be my Valentine. Make me feel like less of a loser."
"Do it do it do it!" the girls chanted.
Chill, Ven. Don't read too much into it, he told himself. Inside, he was freaking out, but on the outside, he remained calm as he muttered, "Fine, asshole."
Everyone got off then, allowing Ven to gasp in precious air and sit up. Terra offered an apologetic smile. "Sorry, I forget how heavy I am sometimes...plus, you're scrawny, so that must've hurt."
Ven huffed at that, kicking his legs over the side of the bed and standing, punching Terra's arm. "I'm not scrawny, you're just freakishly muscly!"
Terra smiled at that. "Whatever you say, Goldilocks. C'mon, Brains made lunch."
Ven's brow furrowed. "Lunch?" Glancing out the window, he saw that the sun was indeed quite high in the sky.
The brunet laughed. "Yes, lunch. You slept right through breakfast, none of us could wake you up. We almost thought you were dead, until the snoring started."
Ven scratched the back of his head, feeling his unruly hair and not caring. "Damn, guess I was tired."
Terra slung an arm around him, ruffling his already messy hair. "Come on, squirt."
After breakfast, the boys were ushered into the living room by Naminé and Kairi, who told them to wait while they ran upstairs. Ven and Zexion shared a puzzled look, while Terra just kind of smirked like he knew what was going on. Which he probably did.
They returned clutching several colorful cards. The two largest ones were immediately plopped on Zexion's lap, while the girls screeched, "Zexy, please be our Valentine!"
The indigo-eyed teen looked shocked as he regarded the cards covered in messy six year old scrawl. "You two want me to be your Valentine?" he asked, looking up at him.
The two of them nodded enthusiastically.
"You're reaaaaally handsome," Kairi began, grinning widely.
"And reaaaaally fun to play with!" Naminé finished, giggling.
"Look at you, Zex, gettin all the ladies," Ven joked as his friend was assaulted by hugs and cheek kisses.
"I'm almost jealous," Terra remarked, chuckling.
Kairi paused in her assault to giggle at Terra. "Silly, Venny's your Valentine! And you're too tall for us!"
He snorted at that, shaking his head in amusement. "Right, how could I forget?"
Ven laughed, hauling the girls off poor Zexion. "Girls, you know he has to leave later and go be Demyx's Valentine, right?"
They nodded. "But he can be our Valentine until then!" Naminé reasoned, grinning. "Demmy can wait!"
"No arguing that," Ven said with a shrug. "Any objections, Zex?"
Sighing, the shorter teen smiled and shook her head. "Demyx is stinky, anyway. You two are much better Valentines."
Squealing, they latched onto him again, but not before throwing cards at Ven and Terra. Ven opened his up, smiling when he saw the drawings that Naminé had made. Inside, it read:
Venny,
Thank you for being the bestest big brother to us! You're a lot funner than Roxy, but don't tell him that, because that would make him feel bad! We love you lots, okay?
Love Kairi and Naminé
There was a little drawing of the two of them and Ven, and all of them were holding hands and smiling, with hearts everywhere. He felt his heart warm at the fact that Kairi considered him her big brother just like Naminé did—he'd really grown attached to her, after all. It was like he suddenly had two sisters, which was nice after his family had gotten so small...Axel and Kairi were very welcome additions.
Terra set his aside, standing and throwing the girls over his shoulders, spinning them around and relishing in their giggles. "Thanks for the card, you little monsters," he playfully growled, allowing them to slip down into his arms.
Grinning, they each planted a kiss on his cheek. "You're welcome, Terra! You're a good big brother, just like Venny or Roxy or Axie!" Kairi told him, smiling sweetly.
Naminé nodded in agreement. "And you make Venny smile! Venny didn't smile much after Daddy died and Mommy went away, but you and Zexy made him really happy again!"
The deep blue eyes that Ven loved so much softened at that. "I'm happy to be of service." He smiled at Ven then, making the blond's heart flutter wildly.
The brunet's phone decided to ring at that moment, causing him to let the girls down and leave the room to answer it. The kids immediately bounded back over to the couch, curling up on either Ven's or Zexion's lap.
Ven smiled at his baby sister, stroking her long blonde waves. "Your hair is getting so long, Nami," he remarked, grinning. "It's very pretty."
She beamed. "Thanks, Venny! I want it to be reaaaally long, just like mommy's is!"
Ven felt his mood sour slightly at the mention of his mother, but he didn't show it as he simply ruffled her hair. "Well, you're almost there. Soon, it'll be longer than hers..." Funny, he thought bitterly. It's hard for me to even remember how long her hair is.
Terra returned a moment later, hand cupped over his phone. "Hey, Ven, you mind if Aqua drops by for a bit? She wants to meet you guys."
Ven shrugged. "Sure."
"Who's Aqua?" Kairi questioned, brow furrowed.
"Terra's big sister," Zexion replied, smiling at the little girl in his lap.
Both little girls gasped. "Terra has a big sissy?!"
Snorting, Terra disappeared again to finish his call, while Ven and Zexion nodded. "They're not related by blood, like you and I are," he told Naminé, smiling. "But they're adopted siblings, and they love each other as if they were brother and sister."
"Like Nami's my sister? And you and Roxy are my brothers?" Kairi asked, tilting her head to the side.
He nodded, heart warming. "Exactly like that, Kai."
Terra came back then, grinning. "Aqua will be here in about an hour," he announced. "She's excited to meet everyone."
"Let's play beauty salon until then!" Naminé practically screamed, blue eyes lighting up,
The three boys all let out a collective groan.
i squealed a little when Terra asked Ven to be his valentine tbh, i'm such a fucking dork
what do y'all think will happen from here? i wonder if any of you will guess...and yay, Aqua is finally officially coming into the story! :D
so i'm starting a collection of oneshots set in this story, all relating to things that haven't been seen in past chapters and stuff (idk i think it'll be fun) so i'm gonna need some requests! one of my lovely readers has requested a little soriku, so that'll be the first one up once i write it, but i'll take any requests and let you know if it's doable! i'm probably gonna write a valentine's oneshot for Sora and Riku and also Demyx and Zexion if y'all want it for the collection? let me know asap so i can get writing hahahaha
next chapter is underway! i'll see you all again on valentine's day! (and hopefully before then with stuff for the collection :3)
