Thank you to AutumnHerondale, ilubcupcakes and guest for reviewing. Guest (sorry dont l know your name) - Thank you for reading and saying that, you have no idea how much that means to me. And here is the summary that Autumn Herondale asked for:
This chapter starts off where Jace is still in Jocelyn's room being healed after his fight with Seb. Seb beat him up because he found out about his demon blood and got angry and was unable to control himself. Jace was taken by suprise and was unable to fight back.
Chapter Twenty
The moonlight shone through the window, bathing the room in a soft and gentle glow. In the light one could just make out two shadows, entwined upon the bed, their eyelids shut and their chests rising and falling delicately as they slept, lost in a world far away from this one.
Clary's eyelids fluttered as she dreamt. There she was, surrounded by walls so high that she could not see above them. The sky was an ever darkening grey and the clouds angrily swirled above. Every so often the wind would blow; whipping her carroty hair across her face, throwing it into her mouth and hindering all sight. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't brush the hair away from her face. It itched badly and she fought hard, but still the red locks stuck to her like glue; until the wind dropped. Once the wind dropped, the hair fell back down to its natural position, innocently hanging there as if no crime had ever been committed. Clary wasn't sure where she was or why she was there, but she had this underlying feeling that she was supposed to be doing something. Out of the corner of her eye, Clary saw something glinting and, turning around; she saw it was a silver ladder, perched precariously on the crumbling wall. Working on pure instinct alone, she hoisted herself up the ladder, rung by rung, until eventually her head popped out over the wall, revealing a view to her. Suddenly, the wind began to howl again, except this time it seemed to be whispering something. Her ears pricked up. 'Clary' the wind said 'Claaaar-y"
She felt herself shake as the vision slowly fell away, crumbling before her very eyes, until there was nothing but shadows left. Her eyelids opened and through the haze of the cover of darkness, Clary could make out a face, just inches from her own. "Clary" Seb said again, nudging her. "Clary". Clary sat up, her eyes adjusting, all at once. "What!" she said in the manner of someone who was certainly not a morning person. Fumbling around in the limited light, her hand felt a bump that must have been the light switch and with a press of a button, suddenly the whole room lit up, the bright light burning into Clary's corneas. She could hear Jace grumbling beside her as he slowly returned to the real world. Jace slowly opened his eyes, much like a tiny puppy just after birth, seeing the world for the first time. His golden eyes were tinged with youth and innocence. Until they landed on Seb, at which point they immediately hardened into fury. "What's he doing here?" Jace hissed.
"I don't know" Clary replied bitterly
"I just woke up and he was here."
"Well why don't you ask him?"
"Hello" Seb said in a songlike tone "'He' is right here."
"Okay" Jace stated, his voice dripping with resentment
"Why are you here?"
"I couldn't sleep" Seb said, staring down at the dust coated floor
"So you thought you'd run into mummy and daddy's room?" Jace mocked. Seb's head whipped up, fire blazing behind his demonic black eyes. "No" he spat "I'm here to apologise if either of you can be bothered to accept it."
"Can be bothered? You think this is a matter of effort?" Jace said forcibly, pointing to his eye, which was sparkling grey with the memory of the fight. His voice grew louder and louder. "You think sorry can make up for the danger you inflict in our lives?"
"Okay, okay, enough" Clary said, her mind still groggy and focused on sleep
"I really don't see what we can do about your inability to sleep and frankly it is four in the morning and I just want to go back to bed."
"Here's the thing. I felt too guilty to sleep. My mind was too full. I was thinking it over and it occurred to me that maybe this demon blood thing was real. Maybe I was just in denial. I mean it would describe my actions and my mood swings, right? And I also felt really bad about you, Jace. I mean, you're my brother and I love you and I didn't mean to hurt you, and I realise that you thought it best to tell me, and it probably was, and I'm trying not to think about how long you knew and didn't tell me because that shouldn't be an issue. And I don't even know what happened to me, what overcame me to make me act that way but I'm sorry and I am going to-"
"Seb. You're rambling. Is there actually a point to this?" Clary snapped, the lack of sleep catching up with her. "Actually there is." Seb said pointedly. "Anyway whilst I was up, you know mulling it over, I overhead voices, loud voices at that, coming from Valentines office. So I snuck out and hid outside the door. And it was dad, on the phone, talking to some guy. I'm not sure exactly what he was saying but it sure didn't sound good. He was talking about something called 'the circle' and he mentioned downworlders and the clave."
Clary was shocked. It'd been hard enough realising in the first place that the man who had raised her, cuddled her, trained her (and been horrible to her but she didn't know any better) turned out to be a hoarder of broken angels and dark secrets. But now to find out that there was something else going on? That they still hadn't cracked the code, that they still hadn't reached the bottom of pit of dark secrets? Clary wasn't sure if she could take it, wasn't sure if she could take her already twisted view of her father being twisted again. And to pile this idea on top of the mountain of other worries; the prospect of Jace going away, the demon blood that still lurked in her brother, the angel blood that lurked within her, her fragile rune power, her strange and re-occurring dream. She was sure it wouldn't take much more until she just erupted, just exploded, all the worries and doubts building up until there was no more room, until they pressed for an escape from herself, and then bam! She would detonate and nothing would be left of her poor little life. No memories left to haunt her, no secrets left to be discovered. She zoned out, lost inside her head, she could no longer hear the whispers of her brothers over the piercing and incessant drum beat cracking through her head. She feared she was having an attack. It had been a hell of a month. She marvelled over the idea, the fact that her whole life could be turned upside down, could be spun so widely out of control that she no longer even recognised it, and all in such a short amount of time. She could feel her thoughts getting louder and faster until they swirled into an irretrievable whirlpool of emotion. She had gone past the point of hysterical. She was on a whole other level. She could vaguely feel someone shaking her shoulder but more than that she could just feel a wave hitting her over and over again as she began to drown, overwhelmed by it all.
