Arthur stood in front of the tower window absorbing the morning sun and

observing his kingdom below.

The marketplace was already buzzing and he could pick out Gwaines hair

on the training field while he trained with the larger man that could only be

Percival. Arthur couldn't hide his smile when he thought about his two

knights, after that night in the clearing they grew closer he had to wonder

who made the first move in their relationship well as long as their both

happy.

He wished he could be down there with them he missed the feeling of calm

he received in letting his body relax into the memorized movements of

knight training but alas he had a council meeting to go too after he and

Emrys finished in the lower town. Speak of the devil, every time he thinks

about his soulmate she always manages to appear like she somehow

knows or had been summoned by his thoughts alone.

Arthur felt her magic reach him long before she turned the corner and it

always made him feel safe. It was like a warm wave that spread-out in front

of her as if to clear a safe path or a loyal dog running to meet its master

helping him remember the magic belonged to him as much as it did her.

The said wave wrapped around him like a hug and his stiff shoulders and

back relaxed as all tension released from his body. Leon's steady boots

and the light whisper of slippers approached him from behind and he spoke

without turning still gazing out the window the midday sun causing only a

small shadow on the floor behind him.

"Well you both took your time no problems I hope?"

It was Leon who answered him but he swore he could feel Emrys smile as

she held back from offering a cheeky reply that would be all Merlin.

"Sorry to keep you waiting Sire, the Queen met us in the passageway that

caused our delay it appears that I am needed as a escort."

"Well then you best not keep my wife waiting Leon she make your day hell.

I shall see you in the meeting."

"Yes sir. Gooday my love, behave."

"Hey! I take offence to that. I always behave just go do your job brat and ill

do mine."

"Love you too sweetie. By your leave sir."

They stood side by side, arms touching looking out the window as Leon

bowed and walked away. neither spoke until his footsteps no longer

echoed.

"A brat? Really? He is older then you and your betrothed and you call him a

brat?"

"If you must know yes! he is a brat, he made me late by hiding my shoes I

mean who does that?"

"Well Leon apparently, but no matter you're here now and we have the new

stall a druid set up yesterday to visit before we have to sit in a room full of

stuffy old men who wish me to be like my father."

"Arthur you're the king. You are destined to rule of Albion not them. the

counsel advises that's their purpose if you don't need their advice you

could disband it and install the round table publicly instead. You have

myself, Gwen, the knights even Geoffrey and Gaius to support you now."

"If it were only that easy. They are all noble families that feel entitled, without their

support the kingdom will suffer."

"Well invite their sons to your inner circle so their houses still have a voice but you need

to surround yourself with your generation not your fathers."

"There you go again being all wise."

"Hey it what I was born to do, now lets go prat."

Leon trailed a step behind his old friend as now his Queen as protocol dictated as she

weaved around the crowed lower town she did this every few days to remind them as

well as herself from where she came from. Today she wore Pendragon red looking

every inch the queen she was. Watching her kneel down to hug a little girl while her dad

gazed at his life long friend in amazement Leon couldn't be prouder of her. After

handing the child a flower and some silver coins Gwen stood.

"So Leon how are things between emrys and yourself?"

"A gentleman never tells my lady."

"Gwen Leon, you have known me my entire life please call me Gwen."

"So be it but I am still not telling you anything Gwen."

"Then there is things to tell me so is she a screamer or…."

"Gwen! Were waiting for marriage!"

"Oh come on ill share with you, why the other day I snuck up on Arthur and shoved my hands…."

"Lalalalala can't hear you lalalala."

*********************************************birth*******************************************

Two men watched from the shadows as their target covered his ears and danced

around the queen like a small child. The knights of the round table were fools but were

bloody good at their job which made their task that much harder, their employer is

paying them good coin to do this.

"Now Mike you need to distract the queen and knight and I will sneak up and complete

the job, protect the queen so no one suspects you okay little brother?"

"Got it, just don't get caught okay?"

"That's the plan but hey look at me now if I don't get away you take the money and run

have that normal life you want so bad alright?"

"Ya okay Matt."

"Good now get over there and distract."

Leon stopped dancing around when he noticed someone approaching, quickly

assessing the man for risk and found none he let his shoulders relax but still placed

himself between himself and the man crossing his arms in front of him suddenly missing

his chainmail as his bare arms slid across his shirt. Gwen let out a small huff at his

protected stance and brushed him aside and introduced herself taking in his brown hair,

green eyes.

"Well met, how are you on this lovely day?"

"Very well ummm my queen umm I was just umm wondering..."

"Please don't be scared what can I do for you?"

"No umm nothing I was just wondering umm hoping if you would mind if you could umm

would accept these I picked them for you."

The nervous man held out a bouquet of wild lace somewhat rare to find which brought a

smile to Gwen's face she loved flowers. As she stepped forward to take them not

noticing the shadow moving behind Leon, unlucky for Matt someone else did even if a

little to late.

Emrys was admiring the lower town as her and the king walked side by side, the market

place always reminded her of the fun she used to enjoy as Merlin. Her feet were drawn

to the path leading away from the target range to the open air blacksmiths where she

stopped and lovingly ran her hand over a pair of hanging hooks with a sweet smile on

her face, she could feel the residue of her magic 11 years gone still clinging to them.

"Do you remember Arthur? It feels so odd encountering all the things from my past the

feelings are all there but the memories are fading like a dream."

"Of course I remember its one of the best moments of my life. For five minutes I was

free it was you vs me the rest of the world fell away I was just some random prat and

you were a gutsy magical farm boy."

"Do you miss me? ummm him Arthur? I mean me as a guy?"

"Still idiotic, I don't care if you came back as a horse your my best friend and soulmate

as long as your by my side the physical form means nothing."

"Holy crap pratdragon that was deep for the likes of you, I guess my mother was

correct, you have grown up since I died."

"Hey! I am 30 and your king how could I be anything but an adult? No don't answer that

just come along the druid stall is just over there."

"Yes my lord, right away your highness, sorry for the delay sire."

"Merlin?"

"Shut up?"

"You remember good, now lets go."

With matching grins the strolled down the cobblestone path to the visiting vendors area.

Multi colored tents formed a colorful rainbow amongst the backdrop of the white stone

of the capital following the soft druid voice in her mind Emrys lead her king to a faded

pink tent selling herbs and trinkets where said druid woman was waiting bowing to each

of them individually before she addressed them.

"Your highness, my queen thank you kindly for your presence its an honor to meet

Emrys and the once and future king."

"No my lady the honor is mine thank you for trusting Camelot enough to venture here I

assure you your completely safe how are you liking the city so far?"

"Oh its lovely everyone is so nice here I wanted t…."

The druids voice faded into the background as her magic flooded her body hissing like

an angry cat expanding here magic she quickly found Arthur was not in any danger so

who? Emrys closed her eyes and let her magic flow down the strands of the weave that

connects her to friends and family. Right there! Leons strand pulsed, her eyes snapped

open completely gold and she ran in the direction of the thread, her betrothed name

swept off her lips and into the wind.

Both Arthur and Sarah after properly introducing herself to the king during small talk

stopped speaking when the heavy wave of magic rolled out of emrys enveloping the

entire area like a soup bubble quickly apologizing to Sarah Arthur dismissed her

knowing that something bad was about to happen.

"Forgive us, it was a pleasure to meet you but it might be safer if you retreated."

"Nothing to forgive sire I have been told stories of the power of Emrys I never imagined

meeting her let alone feeling her magic keep her close farewell."

Arthur placed a gloved hand on her wrist trying to get her attention. "Emrys, Emrys

answer me what is it what's wrong?"

Suddenly she took off heading to the lower town the name of his first knight whispered

in a tone he had never heard from Emrys before… fear. Sprinting after the mage he

turned the corner and froze as he took in the scene before him.

The first think he noticed was the absence of people, the street was empty of spectators

which could only be a good thing considering the gruesome site of what could only be

from a man exploding. Blood and flesh was splattered on the road, stalls and houses,

like a group of children tossing around buckets of red paint.

At the center of the storm were four people his queen was being held by a tall

townsman her face hidden in his chest while his court magi was kneeling on the blood

covered ground hands pressing down on the torso of his honor guard. He snapped out

of his state and ran to his wife's side and taking her into her arms leaving the man

standing still his gaze frozen on the body on the ground. Arthur followed the gaze and

wished he didn't.

Leon was practically gutted the dark red brown of his blood told him just how

deep the cut went his friend was quickly dying only magic could save him now. The pale

long fingered hands were holding Leons guts on the inside were shaking slightly

making Arthur wonder why Emrys had not healed him yet. Releasing his wife to once

again be held by the other man the king knelt beside Emrys and asked why Leon was

not healed because Arthur heard the words of the old language fall from her lips his

blood ran cold when Emrys lifted her face covered with tear tracks and answered.

"I can't heal him my magic can't touch him."
