Who am I, I mentally asked myself as I stared sorrowfully at my reflection in the mirror. The girl staring back at me wasn't who I was but instead who I had become. Before I met Scourge, I had been strong, fearless and loyal. But now that everything has happened to me, I've become weak, fearful and unfaithful to the trust both the men I loved had given to me. I had betrayed both of them at least once. I had lost myself throughout this whole string of paranormal events and now all I could do was reminisce the lost girl. She was never coming back and I had accepted that fact. It wasn't easy but I did. I guess it was because I realized that I would have to change again but this time by force. I had to become a leader who had intentions fit for the world that had chosen me. Whether I liked it or not, I had been transformed into this person for a reason and I knew that I could not fail her. If I did then I don't know if there would be anything left inside me.
I jumped when I felt small hands on my bare shoulders. I refocused my vision to see Roxy standing behind me, a grin on her face. She was the first face I had seen when Scourge and I had returned to Hell. I was happy to know that she had made it out of the war zone in the church safely. "You are such a beautiful princess," she told me. I smiled at the young girl.
"Thank you." Today was my incarnation as the Dark Angel Princess in front of millions of Dark Angels. Lucifer had explained to me earlier that during the ceremony Scourge would give me a ring as a sign of our union, a necklace as a sign of wisdom, and a tiara as a sign of power. All three items held intense forces and with them I would be invincible. I hadn't exactly figured out if I liked that thought or not. Immense power has been known to get to people's heads and I wasn't near ready to start going crazy yet.
My hand maids had dressed me in a long gown that fitted my torso down to my waist where it pinched in a bit tighter around my hips and then fell into a waterfall of skirts. The dress itself was hot pink and black. In the torso, the bold color was the pink with black lace overtop of it. It was the same on the skirt except the lace was a bit thicker. My hair was now down to my waist due to some potion my maids had put in it to make it grow super-fast. But instead of curls today, I had waterfalls of waves that fell down my back. My eyes were bolded in black and dark silver, causing my wide eyes to look bigger and my jade irises brighter, while my lips were frosted in a subtle hot pink that made them look plush. I had to admit that I did look beautiful. All the Dark Angels interested in my gender would probably faint at the sight of me. I let slight blush rush up to my cheeks at the thought of what Scourge's reaction to my appearance would be. He would probably rip it off and do with me what he wants the second he got me alone. I shook my head mentally as I let the blush go away. Scourge and I had been avoiding each other since we got back. At first, he never wanted to be near me. The first night we were here, he slept in the guest room while I was left in his room. That made me feel a bit upset so I then decided to play at his game and not want to be around him. He noticed that and got irritated so he then stopped showing his face around in general. I did miss him but if he wanted to act that way then I would let him. I didn't care. My black heart wouldn't allow me to.
Roxy and I turned around when we heard the door of my vanity room open. Lucifer was standing there in a black suit with a red rose peeking out of his breast pocket. His glowing red eyes examined me softly when I stood up and I saw a flash of lust run through them. Ew. The Devil finding interest in me was not something I had signed up for. "There has been a change of plans," he said, his mesmerizing voice hard and angry.
"The Angels have attacked, haven't they," I asked, walking towards my Creator cautiously. Lucifer nodded.
"Yes. It's a bloody war zone up there. I will not permit you two to go anywhere near there until the battle is over. There are plans arranged to take you two to the more secluded section of Hell – a safe zone if that's what you wish to call it. Most of the children have already been transported there with caregiver demons and guards. No harm will come to any of you there."
"Will Scourge be coming with us?"
"No. Miguel has already engaged into the battle on Earth." A shiver went through me as well as fear for my mate. If he died up there then the last thing between us had been emptiness. I couldn't live with myself if he was gone and no good recent feelings to take with him. Lucifer noticed my sad look and gently caressed my cheek. The gesture shocked me since it was more of a fatherly touch rather than a friendly or intimate touch. Maybe Lucifer had a bigger heart than he let on. "Don't worry, dear, Miguel knows how to take care of himself."
"I hope so," I murmured. Lucifer caressed my cheek again before leading me and Roxy out to a waiting car. During the long ride to the safe haven, I slowly tapped into Scourge's mind. Since he wasn't exactly paying too much attention to his mental surroundings, it was easy to get into his head. I watched him kill multiple Angels, his fighting skills much more advanced than I had thought. Once, he took on three Angels and they barely got a scratch on him. After snapping the neck of one of the female Angels, Scourge was suddenly tackled to the ground by two sets of arms. His anger fueled through him and with a burst of intense fire, he blew the two Angels off of him. I was just as surprised as he was when he realized his two attackers were Cody and Victoria. He smirked evilly at them. Cody glared at his enemy and got into a position to lunge at him again but Victoria stepped in front of him.
"Where's Rosy," she demanded, her eyes fired up with determination. "I know you did something to her." Scourge chuckled, shaking his head.
"I haven't touched her. Not yet anyway."
"We know you're planning on hurting her." Scourge raised an eyebrow and relaxed his posture.
"You know if I wanted to hurt her then I would have done it a long time ago. Why can't you accept that I might actually care about her?"
"Because you don't care about anyone but yourself. I remember you gave me that same proposal you gave her but the second I denied it, you kidnapped me and raped me."
"And a long line of torture not too long after that. Yes, I do remember that. But see, bitch, Rosy made the right choice. She knows where she belongs."
"And that's with you? Oh please."
"Careful, Tori. It was easy for me to kill you as a mortal and it will damn sure be easy to kill you as an Angel." A flash of fear went through Victoria's eyes which caused satisfaction to flow through Scourge. He liked the fact that she was afraid of him. Then he knew that she wouldn't fully fight against him if it ever came down to it because she knew he would kill her without a second thought. Suddenly, Scourge was tackled again but this time by a pair of lean arms. We both knew who it was and Scourge started to throw punches as they rolled down a hill. The last thing I saw before Scourge noticed my mental presence was the descent of both Angels and Dark Angels on the fighting pair. Both sides were coming to defend their leaders but the Angels were there faster. Much faster. I knew Scourge didn't want me to see him get ambushed so the moment he noticed, he kicked me back into my own body with a force. Dammit, I thought as I blinked a couple times to refocus my eyes on my actual surroundings. Even though I don't doubt Scourge's ability to fight, there was a lot of Angels about to swarm him and with his strength focused on pinning Cody down, things could get messy. I could only hope that he would be okay.
We reached the safe haven and I immediately sent Roxy off to play with the other Dark Angel children. Not because I didn't want her to see me worrying and then start worrying herself but because the injured Dark Angels were starting to get sent in. Most of them went into the infirmary while others who had children gathered their kids and went off to a room. I wandered off towards the infirmary where I bumped into Dante at the door. He had been limping off when he spotted me. I couldn't help but feel bad for him as I looked over his bruised face and the bandages that covered bleeding spots all over his body. Maybe Scourge was right. Maybe the Angels were more evil and dangerous than they put off to be. "Hey mistress," he greeted me with a playful smile.
"Hey. Are you going to be alright?" He nodded.
"Yea. I got my pain meds and once the healing kicks in then I'll be fine. Those damned Angels are getting stronger with Victoria around."
"Is there a chance they might win?"
"Not when we unleash you on them." He smirked before letting it fall. His eyes traveled to the ground. "But Scourge is weak now. He'll only get weaker if the Incarnation ceremony doesn't happen soon."
"Weak? What do you mean?"
"The Angels ambushed him and roughed him up pretty bad. If he wasn't as old as he is then there was a chance that he could have died."
"Oh my god! Is he alright? Where is he? Can you take me to him?"
"All I know is that he's in one of the special treatment rooms and that he'll live. Yes, I will take you there. I was on my way over anyway." Dante then turned and continued to limp off down the hall. I walked with him, putting his arm over my shoulder to get rid of some of the weight on his hurt leg. He smiled at me in thanks. We walked down a long hallway all the way to the end where we heard Scourge yelling swears or commands in Spanish. Either way, you could tell he was pissed. Lucifer emerged from the room before we could enter. He did not look happy either, his thin lips pulled into a deep frown. His red eyes immediately registered Dante.
"Donetello, I have plans for you to do," he said, taking the Dark Angel's arm from around me so that he could place it around his own shoulders. Dante raised an eyebrow at his Creator.
"How is Scourge, first?"
"Miguel will be fine. He just needs more potions and time than the rest of you do. In the next battle, he will likely not be participating so I'm leaving you in charge of leading it."
"Is he in a lot of pain," I asked, causing both the Hell creatures to look over at me. Lucifer nodded.
"Those Angels were aiming to kill."
"How did he get away?"
"I helped him," Dante said. "I got there before it was too later and got help to fight them off. After that, they retreated."
"Do you think that may have been their goal of attack? To harm Scourge?"
"More than likely," Dante said with a shrug. He then nodded towards the closed doors. "Maybe you should go see him. Give him a flash of boob, make his day better." I couldn't help but let out a small giggle. Even when he was hurt, Dante was still Dante.
"Yes, perhaps you should go see in. Keep his mind out of the gutter," Lucifer said before starting to guide Dante off. Since I was still wearing my Incarnation outfit, I walked into the room with some confident that I could make him feel better. I didn't know what I expected the room itself to look like which turned out to be a regular hospital room but I did have expectations of Scourge's wounds. They were a lot worse than I thought. Long bloody scars covered his arms and chest as well as burn marks and bruises. There was a brace on one of his legs and bandages covering his neck. He also had a faint black eye, a couple small scratches on his cheeks, and a busted lip. His face didn't look that bad since he had already probably started healing it but the rest of his body made me want to lay down and cry. A part of me felt even more hurt because I knew that Cody had a part in what was done to my mate. I wanted to jump into his arms and hold him while I cried but the look he gave me stopped me from even moving.
"What are you doing here," he asked, his voice cold and low.
"I wanted to see you." I started to walk towards his bed, longing to be close to him. "I was so worried. When I saw them swarming you I-"
"Don't. Just don't. You weren't even supposed to be in my mind in the first place. You don't need to see me murdering those souls. You shouldn't be in here either. I don't want you to see me like this."
"Like what? Vulnerable? If that's the case then when else would I see you that way?"
"Never. That's the whole point." I sighed, grabbing his hand gently. His ice blue eyes stared at me with almost no emotion as they examined my outfit.
"Do you like it," I asked, putting his palm against my cheek. He nodded.
"You look amazing," he said although his voice didn't hold emotion. "It's too bad that I couldn't see you in it at a better time."
"Maybe if you weren't avoiding me, you could have seen it before the ceremony. Why were you avoiding me anyway?" Scourge looked up into my eyes, his still angry and cold.
"I needed time to think."
"About what," I asked. Scourge shook his head.
"A lot of things. This war, your decision, our future…" He looked down, pulling his hand out of my grasp. "Rosalinda, you deserve a good happy life. One with two loving parents, a good best friend, a boyfriend who will do anything to make you happy. But instead you got this one. One with secrets, violence, unhappiness." He sighed. "I wish that when this is all over that I can give you that happy life but instead it will become one of a ruler and I can't tell if you will like that or not."
"I guess we will find out." There was a short silence between us before I spoke again. "Can I ask you a question?" Scourge, who had been staring off into space, looked up at me.
"Sure."
"I heard what Victoria said about you giving her the same offer you gave me except when she denied that's when you kidnapped and tortured her to death. Would you have done the same to me if I had turned you down?"
"No," Scourge said. "I meant what I said in the store when I found you. I don't wanna hurt you. I love you."
"Why do you love me so much?"
"If I could answer that, I would but I don't have an explanation. There are just some feelings you can't explain." Scourge put his hands up to my face, his thumbs rubbing my cheeks. "Will you stay here with me?" I nodded. I climbed into the bed and cleaned up his torso with a wet cloth before curling up against him. He wrapped his muscular arms around me, his tight grasp making me feel secure. My eyes fluttered shut as I listened to the slow sound of Scourge's breathing. It wasn't long before I fell into unconsciousness but once I was under, I realized that it wasn't my own dreams I had fallen into. It was Scourge's.
Just a filler chap. These next few will probably be filler chaps that lead up to the big war chaps.
