Don't be Childish
Talia's toon powers take an unexpected turn when she gets her first toon flashback! This may be a different kiddo all together for a little while, lets hope the Warner's handle it well XD Takes place after Technicolor. Also, I missed you guys! Sorry if this seems a little rushed in places, there was a lot to cover and not a lot of time to do it. But I hope you like it!
*Talia's POV*
You know, the last time I was strung up in a harness and trying my best not to fall while hanging off the edge of a rock climbing wall, I had been terrified. This time however... it had been my idea. And my toon abilities that made it. By accident, granted, I mean you make one joke about the extra work being an uphill climb and then suddenly boom the toon reflex kicks in and you have yourself a climbing wall. I'll tell you something, it's a good thing I was at the water tower instead of at home or else it would have been a tight fit, and definitely not enough height.
I glanced downwards, judging the distance from the ground. Two quick abseil jumps down should do the trick. I did so, pushing off from the wall and letting the rope slip out of the grip at a steady pace, dropping through the air gracefully before my feet flattened against the bumpy wall again. I repeated the process, this time with a bigger push off and I landed on the floor. My balance shook a little and I landed on my rear, hands still clutching the rope tightly.
"Harder than it looks, huh, kiddo?" Yakko asked smugly, scaling down to land beside me with irritating grace.
"Just a little," I replied, taking his offer of a hand to help me up, "I think I'll only have time for one more scale before I have to go home and take a shower before picking the kids up from school."
"Where are you taking it?" Wakko asked me, hanging upside down in his harness.
"Taking what?"
"The shower."
"Ha...ha..." I rolled my eyes, reaching up and poking his nose playfully to make him chuckle.
"You know, kiddo," Yakko said with the usual slyness, "If this is going to be your last climb for a while, why not make it count?"
In answer, I just gave him a quizzical look, knowing that he would explain himself in a matter of seconds. Right on cue, he walked past me to the entrance of the tower, opening up the shield logo door and sweeping out an arm as if making a grand reveal. It took me a moment to figure out where he was going with this. But then as soon as his siblings started to grin and gather up the harnesses in agreement, I clicked.
"You want me to abseil down the side of the water tower?" I exclaimed.
"It's just a suggestion, kiddo, and one that would be worth it! And lets face it, it wasn't too long ago when you were jumping off this thing while holding nothing but an umbrella."
"That's because..." Yeah he had a very good point actually. My 21st birthday, they had been trying to give me more confidence with my powers and apparently that meant floating around the studio with a giant freaking umbrella. My life everybody! I gave him a flat look and held out my hand, "Give me the harness."
"Yes, ma'am."
I followed them out onto walkway and started hooking up the ropes to the railing. As always, the weather was just above humid and whenever there was a breeze, it was welcomed. I stood there a moment to enjoy it before climbing over the railing. Don't get me wrong, that drop to the ground looked nothing less than bloody terrifying. I mean, who was to say that I wasn't going to mess this up and fall to my death?! That ground was solid as hell! And baking in this heat! Okay, don't deliberately get yourself into a panic. You're not going to become a Talia-pancake, and even if you do, it'll be a toon pancake for a visual gag. Annoyingly enough... And besides, they may be little trolls but the Warner's would never let you get hurt. It's all good. Just remember to breathe.
Okay, harness attached to both me and the railing, check. The Warner's lining up along side me, check. And me acting quickly before I chicken out and panic, I sure hope that's a check! We exchanged grins and I stepped backwards to start my abseil downwards to the ground. And if things had gone to plan as they were in my mind, then we wouldn't have had an issue. But as per usual, things did not go according to plan. You see, when you're abseiling, you're meant to lean back against your rope, step back once or twice so you have your sense of balance about you before you try the jumps and things like that.
But here's the thing; that only works when you're abseiling against walls or rocks. I was abseiling against nothing. I completely forgot that underneath the main body of the tower and beyond the balcony was just nothing but air. There was just the metal legs of a frame to hold the tower up, and nothing between them. So when I just stepped out like that, I went swinging like a pendulum, the rope slipping fast.
I couldn't help but let out a shriek. As I fell, everything turned into slow motion. And I realized that the last time I had felt something like this before. Only once though. Back when I was eight years old and I was falling from the water tower. In an instant, the entire event flashed through my mind. Hell for a split second, I almost expected myself to be back there, small and scared and- Oh I feel funny...
*Yakko's POV*
I gotta give credit to the kiddo, days like this you'd have thought she was living with toons her whole life! She literally just jumped right into that one. A little too much maybe. Me and the sibs looked down as she swung back and fore, in and out of sight where she would vanish under the tower and then swing right back out again. I rubbed the back of my neck and tilted my head.
"Maybe we should have told here we were going to zip wire down instead?"
"Gee, you think?" Dot asked sarcastically, rolling her eyes, "Come on, lets grab her before she starts a panic attack. Again."
Wakko tilted his head as he looked down, swaying a little where he was watching her going back and forth, "Does she look smaller to you?"
"It's just because she's far away, genius." Dot replied.
"Far away or not, it won't be for long." I announced, standing on the railing in a grand pose if I did say so myself. And what the heck, why not complete the look with a pirate captain hat and an old thick ship rope in exchange for the climbing one, "Avast to rescue!"
I held the rope tight in my hands and jumped Sparrow style, leaning forward to start with so I got a good swing on the way back up. What? I was nothing without my dramatic flair. And good looks and comedic perfection but that's another matter entirely. I timed it perfectly, looping out an arm around her middle and used the force from the jump to swing us back upwards towards the sibs and the entrance of the tower.
Although, I'll admit, I didn't notice at the time of rescue since I was kind of caught up on the moment there, but there was definitely something strange about kiddo. For one thing, she was lighter. Not that she was particularly heavy for us toons to start with but she was practically a featherweight if lighter right now. And Wakko was right, she was definitely smaller. I landed beside my sibs and made a move to set her down on the walkway, but she wasn't letting go. Heck, she was shivering and had her arms clamped around my neck like a vice!
"Easy there kiddo, it was just a short drop." I chuckled.
Dot folded her arms and gave me a look, "Nice going, Captain Incompetence, you were supposed to be stopping Talia from playing pendulum, not swoop Poppy right out of school."
"I did no such thing. Look, it's- A kiddie-kiddo?"
The grip around my neck tightened a little as I tried to look down. And... Okay I really should have seen this one coming. There wERE enough hints to sink a ship! But regardless, I'll explain for the slower people out there. I love you guys remember that!
I managed to prise the little lump off of me and put her down to take a proper look. Well, Dot sure did have a point there. This kid definitely looked like Little-Red. But this was a face we'd all seen before, it had just been a heck of a long time. But it was definitely kiddo. Ain't no mistaking that red hair and twitchy eyes. But she looked like a little tyke again. Heck I was having some major déjà vu here. She looked just like she did when we met her all those years ago. Alright you all get where we're going with this shtick, lets get a move on!
"Someone panicked and let their toon powers get out of hand again, didn't they." I folded my arms with a playful wink.
"It was only one anvil this time…" Wakko insisted with a scowl.
"Not you. Her!" Sis pointed at Talia and rolled her eyes, "She hasn't learned about flashbacks yet, remember?"
Oh… I knew I was forgetting something off of the toon tactic curriculum… My bad. Okay, looks like I got some explaining to do. Long story short, when a toon has a strong flashback, like those little dream away shots on TV, it's not just something for you folks at home to watch while we stand around looking pretty. When a flashback like that happens, we actually relive it for a second or two. Getting into the moment or something like that. Anyway, when it happens, it usually only lasts a second or two. But if you're not used to it, it can get a little… dicey. You can accidentally bring something back with you or, like the kiddo here, get a little too involved. Taking a step off that tower must have brought back a heck of a déjà vu. Taking a step off that tower must have brought back a heck of a déjà vu. Wait… Heh, got ya.
So when kiddo fell, it must have kick started a flashback to when we first met when she was a little tyke. She got caught up in the moment, didn't know how to end flashback mode and hey presto, we're dealing with an eight year old stress head. Well, all things considered, it could have been worse. At least she can't hit as hard as a kid…
"Nice job, teach," Dot gave me a look.
"Okay, I'll admit I skipped a few steps." I showed my palms in defence, "Relax, these things only last while she's caught in the moment, she'll be back to normal in no time."
"Yeah, she's only having a flashback to when she was a kid, falling off the tower, with the three of us around her," She folded her arms, and then indicated pointedly around her where, indeed, we were at the top of the tower with Talia as a kid after falling off the tower, "This entire moment is gonna last forever!"
Or until we snap her out of it ourselves but, hey, we've got time to kill, "Relax, it's not like she's in danger."
"Uh, guys?" Wakko piped up, "Where'd she go?"
We blinked, looking around. Oh boy… Looks like kiddo had gone walkabout. We did a quick check over the side of the tower and didn't see any sign of her. So that was probably a good thing. But where was she? Heck we have more luck keeping track of Jar-Head's paperwork than this munchkin. A kid caught in flashback mode, especially a stress head like kiddo, was probably not a good thing. I sighed. Oh it was going to be one of those days…
"Found her!" Wakko grinned, pointing around the corner of the tower.
There was a squeak and a flash of red hair and she'd vanished again. I rolled my eyes, "Not the time for hide and seek, kiddo. You okay back there?"
There was no answer. Instead, the eight year old peeked around the corner at us again, only to flinch back when she got a little too close to the edge of the walkway. Wait, was she tearing up over there? Huh. Wasn't expecting that one. She didn't look too good. The sibs and I exchanged a look before hopping over to her, only to have her jump back in alarm. Jeez I forgot just how much like Little-Red she looked at that age. Kinda spooky. It'd been a while since I was the one looking down at her for a change. The closer we got, the more she backed enough, she had her back pressed against the side of the logo door, wide eyed and shaking.
"P-Please don't hurt me, I-I just want to go home," I stuttered.
"We wouldn't hurt ya. You know that," Wakko insisted, looking confused.
"Come on, girly, it's us!" Dot grinned, "Yakko, Wakko and your favourite one of all, me!"
My brother and I rolled our eyes. But kiddo didn't look any the wiser. She whimpered, "M-My Mommy said I shouldn't talk to strangers... Especially... strange looking ones."
Wakko looked confused, "We're not strangers. Remember, we've been through this about three times alre-mmph!"
I clamped a hand over my brothers mouth and grinned at the kid, "Will you excuse us for one second, kiddo, we'll be right with you."
I gathered my sibs into a makeshift sports huddle so she couldn't hear what we were saying. My hand left Wakko's mouth when he tried to bite me, "What was that for?" He pouted.
"No offence intended, sib. But I was just thinking, maybe it's a good idea not to fill her in on what's been going on. As far as she knows, she's the same kid that wondered from her folks over ten years ago!"
Dot furrowed her brow in concentration, "Hmm, I guess it would all be a bit much on her little noggin to take."
I shrugged, "Heck if someone told me I was a half-toon twenty one year old in the body of an eight year old amnesiac who can't remember that cartoons are real and that she's been hunted down multiple times by a lunatic and also has a job at a movie studio while taking care of two younger siblings..." I took a breath, "I'd find it a little hard to process too."
Wakko blinked, "I feel dizzy."
"Point made." I nodded, "So for now, play it cool okay?"
"I play it cute." Sister-sib corrected.
"Just play it secret and play it safe."
"Um, excuse me?"
We all turned around to see kiddo still standing there, looking nervous as the day we met her. Well, the first time we met her. What was this, like the hundredth or something? We all straightened up in a line and tried to look as... Well there's no point making up a simile for it, we ended up looking just how we always do when we're trying to hide something. Accidentally smug.
"Yeeeess?" We chanted.
She jumped back and gulped, "Wh-What um, what are you?"
"Ready to do this again, boys?" Dot sighed.
"We're the Earner brothers!" Wakko and I announced.
She shrugged, "Apparently we are. And I'm the Warner sister!"
"Oh… I um, I'm Talia."
"We know." We chanted.
"How?" She tilted her head.
"Because uh…" I thought for a moment before snapping my fingers, "Because your folks have been calling you non stop. We had to complain about the nosie!"
"My mommy's here?" Her eyes brightened hopefully.
Oh… I think I made what is commonly known as an error, "Well she's not that far away. Wait did I say your folks? I meant your brother and sister have been calling you."
"I have a little sister!" She bounced in excitement for a moment, then blinked, "Wait, I don't have a little sister, and my brother isn't born yet…"
"Good save," Dot shot at me wryly.
"I'm really confused… I-I just want to go home! I lost my mommy, I don't know what you are and I just want to get down from here!" Oh heck, here come the tiny water works. She was getting stressed out. No kidding. Well, I guess things were playing out differently this time. Thigns were taking place a lot slower, no mad rushes from the guards this time.
I elbowed Dot when she gave me a look and then Wakko took over the talking, "Hey, wanna be friends? Again?"
Kiddo looked unsure. Well I didn't blame her really. She didn't have a clue who we were. But what can I say, I had to give props to the brother for trying. Besides, he was giving her one of winning grins that I'd taught him. She rubbed her eyes, "O-Okay."
He grinned, "You don't have to be scared of friends, ya know?"
"I know. I just don't know what's going on," She muttered, rubbing her eyes like she was embarrassed or something. I noticed she still had the glove mark on her wrist, but I bit my tongue and didn't point it out. More questions I didn't want to answer right now. Yikes. Kiddo sniffed, studying us one by one, "Can you help me get home?"
"Sure we can!" Dot nodded, going along with it for now. Hey if we played along and drove away from the original flashback enough, it would snap her out of it, "Think you can manage to ladder?"
"Uh-uh," She shook her head, "I'm scared."
"Plot hole it is!" Wakko announced, pulling out a black circle and throwing it on the ground before jumping in.
Kiddo yelped and jumped back in alarm, gripping my arm right, "He fell!"
Oh boy, I was not going to let her hear the end of this one. I chuckled, ruffling her hair lightly, "Oh, kiddo, we got a lot to teach ya."
-x-
"Are you sure this doesn't hurt you?" Kiddo asked.
"Nah!" Wakko insisted.
"You hopping or stopping?" I asked, "My arm's getting tired over here."
"Yeah come on kid," Dot grinned.
Next thing you know, Talia had jumped right in. We had stretched out Wakko's tail to make a jump-rope and the girls were playing one of those cruddy hand clapping games that were way too complicated for what they were. But apparently this is just what they needed. It was good to see kiddo smiling again. Sure it had been a bumpy ride when we pulled out the plot hole. Sure, it wasn't exactly driving away from the flashback like we intended, but who wouldn't have a little fun with this? Even kiddo was having fun! Besides, it would be wearing off any minute now. There were no guards around and we were playing. That definitely didn't happen last time.
"You guys are funny," She giggled.
I smirked, "Hey can I get a recording of that? Might need it sometime soon."
"Are you three magic?"
"Nah, just smarter than the average person." Dot grinned, "Well I am anyway."
"You know you still haven't told me what you are. Or where my mommy is."
"Hey less chatting, more hopping, you got a record to beat!" I chuckled.
"Okay! But you're gonna have to answer me sometime," She reminded, hopping away and continuing the rhyming with Dot.
Good to see the sass was still there even so young. We taught her well. Or would teach her well. This could get confusing.
-x-
"Tag! You're it!" She called, smacking me on the arm.
I face-planted onto the ground for effect, "Easy on the right hook, there, kiddo!"
She jumped back in alarm, dropping to her knees and patting my shoulder. Jeez she looked like she was really worried she'd hurt me, "I'm sorry!"
"I'm joking, kiddo," I cocked an eyebrow.
"Oh," She pouted, poking my chest, "That was mean."
"I'll make it up to ya,"
"Yeah? Ah! NO! Hahaha!"
I pounced, scooping her up into one of my famous tickle attacks. She squirmed, kicking her legs and bursting into a fit of cackles. Jeez she could put a hyena to shame! But it was contagious, I'll give her that! Next thing you know the giggles had passed onto the sibs and yeah even I let out a few chuckles here and there before taking mercy and putting her down. Couldn't help but think it'd be fun seeing her and Little-Red playing like this. Well, they could, but I mean likes this. Still, good while it lasted.
"Here, he can take a bigger hit than that," Dot sneered, pulling out a mallet.
Wakko linked arms with Talia and yanked her away, "Now she's it for sure!"
Kiddo yelped at first, then burst into giggles as they ran for it with Dot following after. I would have taken a picture, but then I had a wooden weapon crashing down next to me and frankly I would rather bolt for it rather than get hit.
"Can I try?" Kiddo asked hopefully.
"Be my guest," Dot grinned, handing over the mallet, "Aim for the mouth."
-x-
It must have been over an hour later and I kid you not, we managed to break the record for the amount of games played in a short space of time. Ya know it was a shame we missed out on stuff like this. I was starting to think that maybe she didn't want this flashback trap to end. Like I said, it'd be good while it lasted. The four of us were wondering around the studio, mostly keeping out of sight from the tourists and the few employees who didn't know we existed yet. We managed to treat it as a big game of hide and seek, which made the kiddo happy.
"I had fun today," She grinned.
"Yeah us too!" Wakko nodded, "We should do this again next flashback!"
"What's a flashback?"
I stepped in for that one, "When your sibs don't know when to hush…"
"Is everyday a flashback for them with you then?" Kiddo asked innocently.
My sibs started laughing. I however, gave a blank look, "Yes. Yes it is."
She covered her mouth to hide a chuckle, "When we get back to my mommy, I can ask if you guys want to come over and keep playing at my house?"
"Uh, yeah, kid, sounds great." Dot nodded, rubbing the back of her neck.
"But first how about we get some lunch, huh" Wakko said hopefully, "It's delivery day at the studio so everything is fully stocked!"
"Good planning ahead, brother," I winked, "But first uh… Time to hide!"
Right on cue, or rather right on bad timing, a guard was turning the corner up ahead. Worse yet, it was one of newbie guards who hadn't earned the privilege of learning about our existence yet. Time to get out of here before we broke a couple contracts we really weren't in the mood to break and con out of. Without even thinking, we reacted on instincts. Hence without thinking… Anyway, we pulled out another plot-hole and glued it against the wall. Next thing ya know, we were tucked away inside and waiting for the guard to pass. All we had to do was wait two minutes and we'd be home free for more fun with the kiddo.
"Hey, little one. Where did you come from?"
Wait… Me, Dot, Wakko… Oh great. We're a kiddo down people! Kiddo down!
She stared wide eyed, shaking her head a little as the guard came closer to her. Poor kid was standing there all on her won wondering where the heck we went, "I-I um- I was playing with my friends a-and-"
"Did you get lost from the tour?"
"Well, yes but I was playing with my friends and they were just-"
"Come on, lets go take you to the collection point and see if we can find your parents."
Next thing we knew, the jerk had hold of Talia's hand and was taking her away. Heck, he was even making a report in one of those walkie talkie things, telling them to contact all tours for a missing kid. Oh jeez. Flashback continued… A guard taking the kiddo away. Poor thing was scared stiff, she was marching along before she even knew what was going on. She looked over her shoulder, searching for us. But just as she made eye contact, the guard had steered her inside and out of sight. She looked, well, I'll be honest, she looked scared. Oh great, now I was the one having a flashback. Ain't this a kick in the teeth…
*Talia's POV*
They had me sitting in a big room with uncomfortable chairs and too bright lights. Where were my friends? They couldn't have left me to get in trouble? They said they were going to help me find my mommy and get me home so we could play more. They saved me from the tower. I didn't like this place. I wanted to go home. I wanted to see my friends. I tried to tell the security man that my friends were really out there but he didn't believe me. But they were real! I had really made friends with fuzzy monkey, cat-dog kids! Why didn't the grown ups believe me? Sure, they were silly and maybe magic but still, it was real!
What was going to happen to me? Oh no, daddy was going to get really mad at me for running off. But it was his fault for yelling! But still, that would make him yell more. I felt sick. I felt scared! I wanted my mommy and I wanted my friends! I wanted out! But the doors were shut. The guard had told to stay here until he'd gotten hold of the tours to find my parents. But I didn't want to stay here. It was too quiet in here. I didn't like the quiet. I just got a really bad feeling sitting here. Like something bad was going to happen. Or had happened. I didn't know. It was confusing.
Not as confusing as when I'd met the Warner's. Why were they acting strange and telling me about a brother and sister I didn't have yet? I wanted a little sister, and I was excited about my brother, but still… I didn't understand. It was like they knew more about me than I did! I felt like I knew them a lot more than I should too. I missed them. They wouldn't just leave me, right?
"Hey little one," The guard poked his head in, "Just talking to the tours now. We'll be finding your parents in no time."
I mumbled an answer of some kind before he vanished again. I didn't like being alone. It was too quiet. It wasn't fair… I wasn't sure if I wanted to get up and try to find a way out for myself, or just sit here and wait. Both sounded like a bad idea. Oh I didn't like this! I was going to be in big trouble and my friends were missing. I rubbed my eyes. I didn't like crying and I was trying my hardest not to. But everything was just getting more and more scary and confusing.
CLANG CLANG!
I nearly jumped out of my skin when the vent in the corner of the room shook suddenly. Oh no what now? Before I could really come up with an answer or look for somewhere to hide, it happened again. Without warning, the vent just crashed off of the wall and onto the ground. I yelped and fell off the chair. My eyes widened in fear, looking into the darkness. I couldn't see anything at first. But then three pairs of black eyes stared back at me. At first, I was really scared, trying not to cry again. But then… I knew those eyes! My friends!
*Yakko's POV*
"Alright little missy, we could arrest you for trespassing. Off with ya now before you get in real trouble!" Dot winked playfully as we tumbled out of the vent.
Kiddo seemed to appreciate the drop in. She laughed in relief, "You found me!"
I rolled my eyes good naturedly, "Well yeah, kiddo we got-oof!"
Next thing I knew, the little kid had pounced forward and locked her arms around my middle, hiding her face against my shoulder. Jeez she barely reached my chin but she had a heck of a grip. Oh, she was shaking, "Th-They didn't believe that you were real. I-I was scared a-and-"
Oh come on, I wasn't heartless. Plus this was hitting a few sore nerves on all our parts. I sighed, hugging her back and ruffling her hair lightly, "You're okay, kiddo, we got ya."
"Yeah," Dot nodded, putting a hand on her shoulder, "No getting rid of us anytime soon."
"Not ever," Wakko agreed, "Like a rash."
"Nice analogy…" Dot gave him a look.
I chuckled, giving Talia a squeeze before leaning back a little to look down at her, "What do ya say we get out of here, huh?"
She nodded, rubbing her eyes, "Yes please."
The kiddo gave the sibs a good long hug too before Wakko pulled out a plot hole. Sure a vent wasn't too bad for us to get through but we figured she was a little on the human side right now to force that. She held our hands tight and jumped. Didn't even hesitate. However… Well I'll be honest, that plot hole felt different about half way through. Like it shook or something. Either way, it took us by surprise and our landings weren't as smooth as it usually is. The four of us landed in a heap on the ground. But hey, at least we landed on something soft! Very soft.
"Mind getting your elbow out of my spine, huh?"
We looked down and saw a mop of red hair and a very dizzy but disgruntled expression acting as our cushion from the fall. Well, it was definitely kiddo! But an older kiddo. Our kiddo back to normal! About time that flashback ended, I missed that scowl! Well, sure, hanging out with her as a tyke again was fun and, well… Kind of strange seeing what we missed out on. But we made the most of it! Now our gal was back! About time too, I had no idea how I was going to explain that one to the sub-sibs.
"Hey, kiddo, welcome back!" I grinned as we stepped away from her and helped her to her feet. Boy it was funny seeing her taller than us all again.
"Thanks… oh god my head," She swayed, rubbing her forehead, "What happened?"
"What do you remember?" Wakko asked.
"Everything." She answered, blunt as ever. Thing is, she didn't look too upset about it, "I remember everything I just… I have no idea how it happened or-or why I couldn't remember being an adult or-"
Oh boy, this was going to take some explaining… "Brace yourself, kiddo, we got another toon lesion for ya."
*Talia's POV*
Well, he was right, it had been a lot to learn and understand. A flashback… Well, I should have seen that coming. Or should I? It was going to take some time to get my head around this. So, as far as I could gather, I'd done this myself. I had a flashback and didn't know how to let it go so I just… got too into it. So I went back to my eight year old self who thought she was just meeting the toons for the first time. It had been an odd feeling, that's for sure. The thing is, even though I couldn't remember meeting them or anything about growing up, I still just had that feeling that I should trust them. Now that the flashback was over, I could still remember being a child for the second time. I remembered playing with them, having fun and having them look after me. I remembered them saving me.
So what had ended my flashback mood? From what the Warner's had told me, it was when events drove too far away from the original memories that I snapped out of it. Thinking about it, I knew exactly what had triggered the change back. It was the one thing they didn't do before. I have to say, I loved it.
"You okay?" Wakko asked.
"We didn't melt your brain too much did we?" Dot chuckled, elbowing me.
"Not too embarrassed are ya?" Yakko smirked with his arms folded, "Cute little tyke like you, cussling up to us all scared and shaky? Daww…"
"Daww…" His siblings joined in.
I rolled my eyes and elbowed them playfully, "I'm never going to hear the end of that am I?"
"Nope." They grinned.
"Of course." I laughed.
"So, what's eating at ya?" Yakko asked, gentler than usual.
I smiled. That's all I could do, "You all came back for me."
"Well sure we did, kiddo." He elbowed me, giving me a knowing look, "Don't go spreading it around, but we do sometimes learn from our bigger mistakes."
My eyes rolled and yet my smile widened. Yeah I was happy, they could tell, "I love you guys sometimes, you know that?"
They exchanged a grin, "We know."
"Just so we know… This doesn't happen often does it? Flashbacks?"
"Nah. Now you're aware of them they'll be more controlled," Dot shrugged.
"Thank god… I don't fancy going through puberty twice."
"Yeah that's one circus we don't want to be part of," Yakko nodded.
I laughed. God I just wanted to go home and rest up before my brother and sister came home. Oh I wanted to see them again. My brother and sister. Along with them, my Warner's. They actually came back for me this time and honestly, it meant a lot. It wasn't about them making up for anything in the past it was just them being there for me the same way I'd be there for them. Being a kid again, it opened my eyes to a few things. One of them was just how much we had each others backs. Even when my mother was brought into the conversation, they protected me. That meant so much to me I couldn't even say. All in all, I was lucky to have them.
