We found our way back to the library slowly, feeling along the walls. We knew we were there because there was a bottle glowing in the darkness. We approached it and read the label. Light. Three hours. Drink me.
"Well that is super helpful. We don't have any other choices though, so I guess we should drink it." He said. He removed the cork with his multi tool and lifted it to his lips, before he could drink I stopped him.
"Wait! Let me read the darkness bottle's label first." I said. He held the bottle out as a lamp. Dark. Three hours. Open me. Thats slightly clarified things. "Ok, go ahead, but only drink a little." I said.
I saw him nod in the glim light of the potion before taking a sip from the bottle. A bubble of light blossomed around us. It seemed to extend about five feet all around Kevin. Well this was better, but not great.
"Ok lets go to the infirmary and bandage up your hand." He said. I shook my head frantically. I lied, i was terrified of the dark.
"No, I'll be fine. My hand doesn't hurt. We have to find Charlie. She could have been taken by something in that bottle or trapped in the bottle herself or dead or being tortured or be-" I was cut off Kevin kissing me. It was quick, soft, and a surprise. My breathing remained faster than normal, but now I shut up.
"We are going to the infirmary to fix up your hand." He said. I nodded, not planning on arguing on this one. We walked in total silence to the infirmary. When we got there he pulled out a large nonstick pad, some herbal paste and some medical tape. He smeared the paste on the pad and taped it to my hand carefully. I winced when he applied pressure and he looked at me apologetically. When he was done he washed his hands and returned to my side.
"Where to now?" He asked, his breath on my ear for the second time today. It gave me chills, but it also relaxed me enough to think straight.
"Lets go back to the stairs to see if the bottles you and Charlie had been carrying had tags." Without another word we walked back to where all this shit had started. I still shook, but not as much. The glow around Kevin illuminated the broken bottles on the ground. I grabbed the first label I saw and read it out loud.
"Dark. Three hours. Drink me. Ok I assume this does what the light one did, but with a bubble of darkness. It probably didn't anything since no one drank it." I said. Around it was ink black liquid. This one was probably Kevin's, since he had shown no adverse potion effects. We walked over to where Charlie was standing before my bottle broke. There was nothing but a tag. Kevin picked it up and read it.
"Clear. Two hours. Open me."
