So uh…much shorter chapter than I anticipated, but I had to end it where it did. PS don't get mad about the ending…It's not exactly what you think...

I only own Gaby

Enjoy!

Chapter 21

Gaby gasped when she felt someone's hand gently shake her awake. "It's okay Gaby," Deaton said.

The blonde sat up and looked at the giant hole in the floor "That really happened?"

"Yes, it did," Deaton told her before moving away from the blonde towards Derek.

Gaby moved so his head could rest in his lap. "Derek," she whispered "Derek you need to get up…Derek!"

"Let me try something," the vet told her before blowing a small whistle that made her cringe.

She faintly heard Derek gasp through the ringing in her ears. "That sound…what was it?" Derek asked.

The vet smiled and held up a dog whistle. The alpha scoffed and started standing up. Gaby placed a hand on his lower back to help steady him. He nearly toppled over but Deaton quickly steadied him "You're going to be weak for several hours."

Derek pulled Gaby up and looked and her arm. She could feel the anger rolling off of him as he stared at the claw marks his uncle left on both of them. "That actually happened," he said staring at the hole.

"Don't worry, you're still an alpha, but as usual not a particularly competent one."

"Where is he?"

"I wish I could tell you."

"Then how about you tell me what you're doing here, and why you're helping me."

"Derek," Gaby warned pushing him away from her boss slightly.

"Helping your family actually used to be a pretty important part of my life. I'm helping you for two reasons. The first was a promise I made to your mother. The second, anyone who has this young lady as a mate is worth helping in my book."

Gaby smiled at the vet happy he thought highly of her. "You're the one my sister talked about. She said you're a kind of advisor?" Derek said.

"She was right. And I have some advice that you need to listen to very closely right now. What Peter managed to do doesn't come without a price. He'll be physically weak, so he'll rely on the strength of his intelligence, his cunning. He's going to come at you Derek. He'll try to twist his way inside your head preying on your insecurities. He'll tell you he's the only way you can stop Gerard. Do not trust him."

"There's only one person I trust."

"I know, if you trusted more you might be the alpha you like to think you are. And unfortunately the other person you should trust, doesn't trust you at all."

"Scott."

"He's with Stilinski right now you need to find him, you need to find him as fast as you can. I've known Gerard for a long time. He always has a plan. And something tells me…it's going exactly the way he wants it to."

Gaby and Derek were dropped off at her house by Deaton. The blonde threw some clothes at Derek that he left there when he would spend the night and quickly went into the bathroom to change out of her dress. She turned on the water but moved to sit against the wall. Peter coming back was too much for her. Contrary to what the master said in his letter Gaby felt like a pawn in this game. She felt useless and a means to an end.

The blonde didn't acknowledge Derek as he walked into the bathroom. She allowed him to pick her up off the floor and clean her arm and neck from the dried blood that had been left from earlier. He unzipped her dress and pulled it off her before handing her the pair of jeans and cheer tank she picked out. The blonde quickly threw both pieces of clothes on before moving to help clean off Derek's back.

Neither said a word to each other…neither knew what to say. After Derek dressed he threw Gaby's leather jacket at her and grabbed her keys to her car. The blonde followed wordlessly. "I have no idea where they are," Gaby spoke "They're not answering my calls."

"We'll find them by scent," Derek nodded.

Gaby nodded her head and fiddled with her phone before she remembered Allison leaving a voicemail earlier. She quickly played it and put it on speaker knowing he would be able to hear it either way. "Hey Gaby it's Allison. What I wanted to tell you before you ran off is that after the rave I looked through pictures on Matt's camera and he had some pretty disturbing pictures of you…well not all the pictures were of you a lot had Derek in them too. The pictures were…inappropriate I guess is the right word. There was one where you were in your bra…" Derek growled at those words. "Anyway just thought I'd let you know. I'll talk to you later my dad's calling me bye."

"Oh my God!" Gaby gasped.

"That little…I'm going to tear his throat out!" Derek shouted hitting the steering wheel.

"That's not what the oh my God was about…Derek I'm pretty sure this means he's the master…He's terrified of water he told me once…oh my GOD!"

"We need to find him."

"No we need to find Scott and Stiles they need to know this information."

"How?"

Gaby shook her head "I…" before anything else came out her phone beeped signaling she had a text. "It's from Scott…meet us at the Sheriff's station ASAP…we know who the master is." Derek zoomed out of the driveway and sped off towards the sheriff's station.

As soon as the car was in park Gaby ran towards the entrance with Derek closely following her. She reached for the door right as it opened revealing Scott, Stiles, and Matt holding a gun. "Oh thank God," Scott said when he saw Derek and Gaby.

"What's going on?" Gaby asked as she stepped into the room. She let out a shriek as Derek, who was behind her, fell to the floor. "Derek!"

Matt cocked the gun "Uh, uh, uh Gaby…I wouldn't do that."

The blonde grabbed onto Scott's arm as Matt walked over to Derek and crouched down a bit. "This is the one controlling him? This kid?" Derek asked "Guess you were right Gab."

"Well Derek, not everyone's lucky enough to be a big bad werewolf. Oh yeah that's right, I've learned a few things lately…werewolves, hunters, Kanimas it's like a freaking Halloween party every full moon. Except for you Stiles, what do you turn into?"

"Abominable Snowman," Stiles answered "But, uh, it's more of a wintertime thing, you know seasonal." Against her better judgment Gaby cracked a smile. Matt cocked his head and Jackson scratched Stiles on the back of the neck causing him to fall. "You bitch."

Scott and Gaby moved to help him but Jackson held up his finger and shook it. "Get him off of me," Derek all but growled.

"Oh I don't know Derek I think you two make a pretty good pair. Better than you and Gaby here," Matt smirked.

The blonde narrowed her eyes "That's enough Matt."

"Did I hit a nerve Gaby?"

"You need to stop this."

"I warned you not to stand in my way," Matt said inching closer to her.

"I'm not standing in your way."

"So if I were to shoot Derek in the head right here right now…would you stop me?"

"Yes."

"Then you're standing in my way."

Gaby took a deep breath and decided to change tactics "If you really love me like you say you do, then why not let him go?"

"Because you'll always run to him. It's always going to be him," Matt told her backing away from her.

She shook her head and walked towards him "He can't even tell me he loves me. Why should I waste my energy and time trying to fix damaged goods? Especially when I have someone who already loves me. You were right before, there are other guys out there I should have just looked harder."

He nodded "You should have."

"That was my mistake and because of it I nearly missed something that could have been amazing."

"Why now?"

"Because you opened my eyes with that letter with David…you know I should be thanking you for getting rid of him."

Matt reached up and brushed a curl out of her face and it took all she had not to flinch away "I still need to get rid of Derek."

"Why I don't want him…let him watch you win you'll have something to hold over him…forever."

"I don't know…" he sighed grabbing his hair in frustration. Gaby did the only thing left she could think of, she leaned in and kissed him. The blonde felt Derek's pain as she did this but she was doing this to save him, she just hoped he realized that. A car pulling up caused Matt to break away from Gaby. "Is that her?" Matt asked. Gaby shot Scott a confused look, who was the her they were talking about? "Do what I tell you to and I hurt your mom." The blonde's eyes widened, she didn't want Melissa hurt she's been too much like a mother to her since her parents died. "I won't even let Jackson near her."

"Scott, don't trust him!" Stiles shouted from the floor.

Matt grabbed Stiles and rolled him off Derek onto the floor next to him and stepped on his throat. "This work better for you," Matt asked.

"Matt, stop!" Gaby yelled.

"Hey just stop! Stop!" Scott shouted.

"Then do what I tell you to," Matt ordered.

"Okay. All right…Stop!"

Matt stepped off of Stiles and looked at Jackson and pointed to the sheriff's office "You…take them in there." He turned to Gaby and spoke softer "You…wait in there for me." The blonde nodded. Matt turned to Scott "You…with me."

Gaby walked into Sheriff Stilinski's office and sat on his desk while Jackson dragged Derek and Stiles into the office. After Jackson left to guard the outside door Gaby sighed "Derek what I did it…"

"I know," Derek cut her off "I know why you did it…it's fine."

She heard the upticks in his heartbeat and tears formed in her eyes "Your lying."

"It's not fine…"

"I'm keeping you alive right now."

"What do you think is going to happen when tonight is over?"

"I…I don't know I just needed to do something."

"He's going to kill me either way Gaby nothing you do can stop that."

"It's worked so far." He didn't respond. "I never meant to actually hurt you I was hoping you understood what I was doing and realizing it was all an act."

"Well you were certainly quick to throw something back in my face."

"Derek, I'm not mad you can't tell me you love me…I never have been. I told you that I understood. Besides I know you love me you just can't express it yet…in words at least. You are certainly able to express it in other ways."

"Okay," Stiles said "I don't really want to hear this."

"Sorry Stiles..."

"I'm not mad," Derek sighed "A little hurt, but not mad."

"I can fix a little hurt…it's really hard to fix you being mad at me." After a few seconds of silence the blonde sighed "How are you feeling Stiles?"

"Well I can breathe…"

"That's a plus…"

Before he could say anything else a gunshot filled the station causing Gaby to rush towards the door only to be pushed back by Jackson. "Who is it?" Stiles asked.

Gaby shook her head and tried listening. "Scott," Melissa said.

"Mom, please mom do it," her son pleaded.

"Get up McCall," Matt ordered.

"Matt!" Sheriff Stilinski called out from somewhere in the station "Matt listen to me!"

"Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP! Everybody shut the hell up! Now get up or I shoot her next."

"Scott, it was Scott," Gaby answered tearfully. She knew he could heal, but that was her best friend she never wanted him to get hurt.

"Where are they?" Derek asked the blonde.

She shook her head "Not up front anymore…they're farther back in the station. Oh God he shot Scott in front of Melissa…he's going to have to explain why he healed."

Derek growled realizing another human was about to know who were werewolves in this town. Before Gaby could say anything Scott was shoved into the room by Matt. The blonde quickly pulled up Scott's shirt and looked at the wound. "I need to get the bullet out for it to heal," Gaby told him.

Scott nodded. Gaby extended her claws and cut his wound open further before pulling out the bullet. "Thanks," Scott nodded at her. He turned back to Matt who was watching the scene carefully "The evidence is gone. Why don't you just go?"

"You think the evidence mattered that much, huh? No I want the book," Matt responded.

"What book?" Gaby asked him.

"The bestiary. Not just a few pages…I want the whole thing."

Scott and Gaby shared a look. Technically it was Gerard's, but Scott knew Gaby downloaded the entire bestiary to her computer and printed it out keeping it somewhere safe, but neither were about to share that information with Matt. Scott answered him "We don't have it. It's Gerard's. What do you want it for anyway?"

"I need answers."

"Answers to what?"

"To this," Matt said lifting up his shirt revealing his side that was slowly turning into scales. Gaby stared at it wide-eyed. "Give me your phone McCall," the teen ordered. Scott watched as Matt scrolled down and quickly sent a text message "We'll just make them come to us, then."

Gaby snatched the phone out of his hands "You texted Allison, are you insane? You do realize that the hunters will kill everyone in here without blinking an eye…especially me, Jackson, and Derek."

"Why do you care about what the hunters will do to Derek?" Matt asked her.

"Well forgive me for not wanting him to get cut in half."

"You lied…"

"What?"

"You do care about him."

"Matt…"

"DON'T!" Matt shouted pointing the gun at her "Tell me the truth!"

Gaby closed her eyes "I care about him. I would die protecting him."

His jaw clinched "Do…do you…do you love him?"

"Yes," Gaby answered without hesitation.

A single gunshot rang through the station. The blonde could faintly hear people calling out her name, but everything seemed muffled. She fell to her knees and looked at the wound in her chest. Blood was pooling out of the wound. Gaby slumped forward onto the ground. "Gaby! Gaby NO!" Derek's cries echoed in her ears before darkness consumed her.

*MsRose91: THanks! I hope you liked this chapter! Especially how Allison filled her in…at the time she was dealing with her mother's death so I figured she wouldn't answer Gaby if she called so I decided to have Allison leave a voicemail.
