Chapter 20:
Too far Gone

Just keep moving.
Adam closed the door behind him with trembling hands and grabbed the car keys in the pocket of his jacket. Three times he tried to open the door unsuccessfully and big raindrops began to cover his hand, his head and his clothes, as he finally sat down on the seat of his car. The trembling didn't stop.

Go on.
He didn't turn the radio on and sped away from the parking lot, nearly hitting another car while doing so. The streets were empty and his focus began to slip, no matter how hard he tried to stop the thoughts from appearing in his fragile mind.

What have I done?
The rain intensified and heavy raindrops hit the front of his car so that his sight was clouded. Involuntarily he had to stop at the side of the road. Silence. Too quiet. "Oh god… what have I done?" His own voice. Shaking. Breaking. Alone.
And then the tears came.

Never before had they fought so badly. Every argument Mitch and Adam had in the past had turned out alright, because both had been aware when they had to stop. But this time it had been different. This time it had been so much worse. Mitch hadn't backed down at some point as expected, instead he had pressed his point over and over again. Each argument, every hurtful comment had pushed Adam further and further away from sanity and suddenly he had found himself saying things to Mitch which were unforgivable.

And he had told him from the kiss.

"Oh god…" he groaned and bend forward to put his head onto the steering wheel. The tears didn't stop flowing as he remembered Mitch's face. He had grown incredibly pale as Adam had admitted that there were feelings between Alesa and him. Something had disappeared from his eyes, something Adam had always valued…

And then things had really gone down the tubes. Mitch had pulled Alesa further into the argument and suddenly feelings had flared up Adam had tried to suppress for so long. Something more than friendship for the lovely girl, anger and the need to see the other in pain.
Revenge. Eye for an eye.

"You know what? I enjoyed it!"
Adam's voice made Mitch stop on his way to the door. He clenched his fists and slowly looked over his shoulder. Too late he saw the look in the Canadian's eyes. He was already saying things he would regret forever.
"She kissed me and I wanted to stop her, but you know what? It was nice! I enjoyed it because with her I wouldn't have to hide from the whole damn world. She doesn't care if I swear or not – what about you Mitch? What good do you to me?"

Mitch had begun to cry.
Adam thought long about it, but in all the months they had been together he had never seen Mitch cry. No matter how hard things had been, never had he openly shown his weakness in front of Adam. Not even during the whole Seto-mess. Not once.
To see Mitch cry, because Adam had actually wanted to hurt him badly with his words, had shocked him immensely.

His own tears began to stream down his wet cheeks again and a loud sob echoed through the rain-filled silence in the car. Nonetheless he couldn't forget Mitch's own words. They were as painful as Adam's and even thought he wished nothing more than to turn the car around and apologize, something held him back from actually doing it.

He wasn't sure if Mitch would forgive him for the things he had said.
He wasn't sure if he could forgive Mitch either.

Mitch stared at the screen of his mobile phone.
Over and over again he read the tweet, shocked and at a complete loss for words. Someone was screaming his name somewhere in the house, so they had to have seen it as well. Nonetheless he could neither move an inch, nor blink with his eyes. Some part of him had seen it coming the moment Adam had stormed out of the house this morning, but the rest of him had hoped and begged to every god he didn't believe in that things weren't as bad as they seemed to be…

No longer in team crafted. Before any drama starts no, I wasn't kicked, no I don't hate them, no there's no reason, yes we're still friends

The door was torn open and someone stopped in the doorway.
"Mitch, what the fuck happened?! After this tweet I guess it's time you tell us, don't you think?"
Jerome. His voice was full of panic and as Mitch slowly looked up, someone else appeared behind his best friend. Jason.

"Ty just left to go visit Adam. He didn't say anything, I guess he wants to try and change his mind."

"Hopefully – because the other reason could be that he leaves as well. You know how these two are," Jerome replied and turned to Jason, because Mitch still wasn't talking to him. After Adam had left, the present members of Team Crafted had dared to enter the living room again and found him sitting on the floor in the middle of the broken pieces of a vase. It had taken full two minutes and Jerome threatening Mitch to call an ambulance, before he had finally glanced up with tearful eyes. The broken look had silenced them immediately and Mitch had stood up to go into his room.

"It's over."
Mitch's voice cracked and left an eerie silence in his room, as Jerome and Jason looked back to him. Without returning their concerned glances he began to put some things in his open suitcase. Adam had made a decision and Mitch had no other choice than to go along with it.

He just needed to say it out loud.
To get over the shock.
To finally accept it.

"We broke up."

It hurt nearly as much as Adam's words had. No one said a word. Mitch continued to pack his bags, while he tried to ignore the flaring pain in his chest. It was over. They were done – no more kisses, no more hugs, no more laughs, no more moments together in pleased silence.
"Mitch," Jerome began with a tone in his voice the Canadian didn't get to hear very often. He was handling him with kid gloves, but that was the least Mitch needed right now. "Please don't."

Jerome sighed, even though he complied and didn't say another word. Instead Jason took a step forward with a look on his face that nearly pushed Mitch over the edge. Again he quickly looked away to keep the tears from falling. He needed to get away from this place right now.
There were too many memories of Adam and him.

It was the place where they began to have feelings for each other.
Where they confessed to their friends.
Where they had their first time together.

…where everything had begun.

Mitch's hands clutched the shirt in his suitcase tightly and he ceased all movements.

"Where do you want to go, Mitch?" Jason asked carefully and without a hint of hate nor accusation he got on his knees by Mitch's side. Then he saw the tears running down his face. Instead of throwing a desperate look toward Jerome to escape the situation Mitch was responsible for, he put a comforting hand onto his back and just sighed. "Hey…"

Not a second later Mitch began to sob his heart out.
"I- I'm sorry, I m- messed everything up-"

Jerome was immediately on his other side and pulled him into his arms, but neither Jason nor Jerome were able to stop his heart from breaking a million times over and over again...

"Adam?"

He hadn't even closed the door behind him, as Alesa already appeared in the hallway with a worried expression on her face. Of course she had read his tweet. Of course she noticed his red eyes and the endless tracks of tears on his pale cheeks.

"What happened?"
The sound of Adam throwing his suitcase onto the ground made her flinch, but Adam continued to avoid her eyes. It took him a whole minute to formulate a reply, but not once did she pushed him to answer her and didn't leave her spot in front of him either. His heart clenched painfully due to the mixed emotions, as he finally replied, "We broke up."

Without another word she wanted to rush forward to give him a hug, but he raised his hands to keep her at distance. "I'm sorry, I just can't right now," he whispered and finally dared to look into her bright eyes. The small and understanding smile on her lips was breathtaking and again he felt his heart clenching painfully. Every single feeling he had for her had been forbidden and one of the reasons for the fight, but he had tried to suppress them every single time.

"It was because of me."
She didn't formulate it as a question. He didn't say anything to negate her assumption and again he avoided her eyes. A single sigh. Then she whispered, "I'm sorry, Adam, I really am that it came to this. I wanted to be fair and let you know about my feelings for you, but I actually just made it worse."
She turned around and went in the direction of the guest room.
"Hopefully he's willing to make up if he hears that I moved out again. It's the best in this situation and I-"

"Please don't, Alesa."

She stopped and turned around with confusion written all over her face.
"But Mitch will be more willing to-"

"We're not going to get together again."
Something cold settled in the endless pit being his stomach and every single one of his words hurt a thousand times worse than the minutes after their fight. It was final. Tears appeared in his eyes again.
"It just… it was too much. We're done. He'll never forgive me for what I said and I won't either."

Exactly 3 days and 2 hours had passed since their fight.

"Mitch, I'm going to get something to eat," Jerome informed him and then disappeared through the door of his house. After he had burst into tears, Mitch had fled back to Canada, but no matter how much he had insisted on going alone to think about what had happened for a bit, his best friend had insisted on not leaving him alone.
He appreciated his concern and valued the other's presence, but Mitch couldn't hold back the relieved sigh, as he finally was alone for a bit.

At first he just roamed around the house. He stopped at the kitchen, stared out of the window and then went to the living room to torture himself. Over and over again Mitch had tried to just forget, but he was always on his mind. The way he hugged, kissed and smiled at him. Every second of every day. Every dream in every night.

Adam, Adam, Adam, always Adam-

His hands shook as he opened the familiar YouTube-page on his browser. Just a single video to refresh the feelings and to bawl his eyes out again, so that the feelings would finally disappear from his chest. Just a video with them together. For old times' sake.

The banter made him chuckle and while he bathed in sweet ignorance, he scrolled down to read some comments. In the end he didn't remember why he actually opened the description, but every sane thought vanished from his mind, as he saw what Adam had done.

His link was missing. No mentioning of his name, no link to his channel.

"It's just a mistake, nothing to worry about, deep breaths, Mitch-"
He talked to himself, but at the same time he clicked on another video they had recorded together.
Nothing.

Another video. One that was older.
No link. No name.

A different video. One of the first they had ever recorded together.
He clicked again, ignored the sound of his happy voice and read the description.
Another one.
Again.
Again.
Again.

Then Mitch stopped.
Adam had deleted every single mention from his channel.
He had erased Mitch.

It was more than he could take.
Mitch snapped, jumped up from the couch and grabbed the water bottle from the table. A second later it smashed on the other side of the room and left a water spot on the white wall. The anger was bubbling up through his veins and reached the surface, as Mitch let out a scream and ran to his room.
He was in a haze and completely lost, but his hands wouldn't stop shaking while he grabbed every single item that reminded him of Adam. It hurt, it hurt so incredibly much to just touch them, because the memories would flare up again and compete with the hate in his chest, until tears ran down his cheeks and he was gasping desperately for air.

Nonetheless he didn't stop throwing Adam's things onto the hallway, until Jerome returned.
"What the- Mitch?!"

He stopped in front of the American, distraught and completely exhausted.
"He deleted every single fucking link of me from his videos. Did you know?!"

Mitch was barely aware that he screamed with a hoarse voice, but Jerome didn't flinch. He had awaited an outburst for the past three days, otherwise he wouldn't have accompanied Mitch all the way to Canada.

"I never, Jerome, never want to see nor hear about him ever again in my life."
He gulped and tried to hold back the tears.
"You have to- I need someone on my side Jerome. Please. He is dead to me."

Jerome put the bags down, stepped forward and hugged the distressed boy tightly.
"I promise."
