Author's notes: Hi guys sorry just RL stuff got in the way here. Ok so for those of you who do follow the comic series Wolverine and the X-Men I am aware that there has been some changes involving the cameo bad guys in this chap. I had always planed to have these guys show up from the start and I am mainly a trade reader of this series. Like I said before keeping up to the sec with the ever-changing Marvel world is pain I don't want and can't afford. Well I hope everyone enjoys, again sorry for the wait.
Special thanks: Harbinger Of Kaos, guest1234 and as always to Shadowdancer beta for this story; the review was an extra cherry on my Sunday.
Chapter 21: The welcome wagon.
"Argh…I had been joking about that." Kurt groaned looking behind him recalling their first date.
"Excuse me" Ororo asked from his side her eyes still drawn to the sky.
"Oh, it's nothing," Kurt waved off rather than going into details. "Not the first time in my life as an X-Man I have been reminded that the Lord's sense of humor far exceeds my own."
Kurt and Ororo were getting a break from their argument in the form of a huge herd of classically designed sentinels. Coming in at the head of a perfect V-formation, Kade Kilgore, newest Black King of the Hellfire Club, lead the charge riding atop one of the death machines. A small group of other adolescences gathered beside him.
"Logan! Heard you were having a special party for an old friend." The preteen's cackle blared from a bullhorn. "While I'm hurt not to be invited to show, there are no hard feelings. The Hellfire Club decided to bring back a blast from the past."
When his phone rang Kurt put it on speaker so Ororo could hear. He figured there was only one thing this conversion could be about. "Long story, you don't let the age fool ya. You see any one of those prepubescent crazies out there, don't drop your guard! Band of homicidal midgets, the whole damn lot. We got some human sized android sentinels trying to get inside. Keep as many of the big guys away from the main building as you can . That's where we've rounded up all our kids. I'll send out who I-" The call cut off. Kurt tried to dial back but the phone wasn't working.
"They must be blocking communications," Kurt offered as an explanation. "Telepathically as well somehow if Logan needed to use a phone."
Ororo only nodded as she was in the process of mentally preparing for the fight ahead. Before Kurt had put away his phone, all traces of sadness or tears were removed from her face as if they had never been there. It was hard and battle ready till it met the unease on Kurt's face.
Her expression softened acknowledging that they both were wrestling with the same feelings, torn between what must be done and selfish instinct. People they cared for were going to be defending a place and ideals they all held dear. Storm and Nightcrawler would do no less even when Kurt and Ororo wanted to grab hold of whom they held most dear and keep them safe by any means. Every other concern was second.
Love is a little selfish at times, Kurt mused.
Ororo was in awe that a single person could feel more important than the greater good. At least in my heart.
This made fighting beside each other seem like an even more daunting task with how mixed up everything was between them. With Anna and Remy coming into view, Ororo decided a swap was called for. "Please be careful," she called out while taking off.
Kurt understood what Ororo was doing but would have liked to have at least had the chance to tell her the same or reminded Ororo that he loved her. Unfortunately he was already speeding off towards a flying Anna scooping Remy out her hands.
"Trade you partners for this dance."
"Uh, sure? We'll take the west and north side of the grounds."
"Leaving us east and south. Got it."
Kurt could tell Anna wanted to ask what happened when she reached him, but they had more pressing matters. Instead she tossed what looked a flashlight at him. "Here, Hank said the beam in this pocket laser wasn't exactly made for it, but it should make a nifty blade capable of cutting through these oversized tin cans."
(*****************)
The makeshift sword had done the trick. Rogue deployed Nightcrawler like a smart bomb. Dropping Kurt off on top of one of the giant machines to slice and dice his way through while she took care of a nearby one herself. She picked Kurt up just before the hunk of metal swayed to the ground.
While Kurt relished swinging any kind of a blade around, once more after the fifth go of it he started to want a faster way.
I wonder where exactly the brain is in this model?
Standing dead center on top one of the still very much active robot's heads, he was about to plunge the laser straight in when his actions were interrupted by another sentinel blasting that took the head clean off in a poor attempt to get the elf.
"That was very rude, now I shall have to start again."
Kurt rode the sailing head for some distance just for the sheer amusement of it.
"Showoff!" Rogue managed to call out as he sailed by. Despite how livid she should be by the school coming under attack yet again, it was doing her spirit a world of good to see Kurt in action and enjoying himself. The lighthearted grin he now wore, and always had managed to sneak in even when they were in the thick of danger, was a sight she'd missed.
"Maybe, but I do it so well. Would you not agree?" He asked before porting away. The head hit the ground and Kurt reappeared face to face with sentinel that had taken the shot at him.
"Now hold still bitte." Thrusting into the right eye Kurt quickly hit pay dirt. Drawing out the blade of light, a flurry of sparks came with it. Flashing lights and frantic beeps told Nightclawer he didn't have much time to get away.
Bamf!
"Whatever is holding them together is not too far behind the right eye," he informed Anna hanging above him.
"Well that aught to make this easier!" Borrowing powers from Angel and Armor made for interesting looking combo. It also gave Rogue body armor capable of taking or giving destructive blows and the ability to fly. Positioning herself as a human battering ram, she charged at full speed. She broke through the right eye of one sentinel and clean out the back of it's head, then banked a hard left and repeated the action to finish off the last three.
The machines clasped in a jumbled pile. The explosion that came immediately after made Kurt glad he decided to teleport out of Anna's way once she got started.
"Nice bit of team work there if I do say so myself," Anna huffed, landing beside Kurt. "Makes me glad for the switch up. The slowpokes still seem to be going at it." She added referring to the light show in the sky from the other side of the grounds.
Bright white streaks fell from the skies, while spurts of a pink glow flashed into their view.
"Ja."
The German's simple one word reply drew the southern bell out the after glow of satisfaction for a job well done. "Ya? Don't sound that merry elf."
"I am pleased, it's just…"
Kurt was worried too. This whole time Ororo was closer to the front of his mind than he knew was safe, which only made him concerned that she might be distracted with thoughts of him as well.
Anna's heart went out to Kurt. It was distressing to say the least to have the person you loved the most in harms way, even if they essentially did it for a living. She and Remy had lived through this for years, even when they weren't officially together or on the same side of the fight.
Jesus, sometimes that made it worst, it's a horrible feeling taking unresolved issues or feelings into battle.
She laid an arm over Kurt's shoulders and rested her head to the side of his. "Hey, you may not have seen hide or hair of Ro, but those lights say the girl is alive and kicking something fierce."
Kurt saw Anna's point only it didn't alleviate his worry. He had no doubt Ororo was putting her hurt to good use and those who fought her would feel the fury of a goddess. Yet God-like wrath does not make the woman invulnerable.
It helped that at least there appeared to be nothing left to do here. His worry was easer to put aside with the prospect that he'd have eyes on Ororo soon. "Fierce yet still slow it would seem," Kurt said with grin. "Then lets go help speed things along, shall we?"
"Yeah, let's hustle. That last attack burned up the juice I took from Armor. This flying coach is about to turn into a pumpkin," Rogue warned hooking a thumb towards her spreading wings. "Might need to take a hit from Ro once we get there if I'm gonna keep flying."
They had barely taken off when they spotted a black truck pulling up on the outskirts of the forest.
"I bet that's one of those damn little hellions. Gotta be up to something all the way out here. I think we should have a look." Kurt agreed and Anna brought them down.
Kurt knew very little about this new Hellfire Club other than what Remy mentioned once about them being a constant pest to the Jean Grey School. Kurt also recalled Logan saying their motives were more about getting under his skin and profit than fanatical beliefs or fear of mutants. It made Kurt feel all the more stunned when he saw who got out the van. "Mein gott, Anna they really are children?"
They landed watching a child no older than twelve with wild blonde hair and thick goggles unload a crate off the truck.
Kurt would later find out that the boy was Baron Maximillan von Katzeneinbogen, also know as the Black Bishop. He was the last know living descendant of Doctor Victor von Frankenstein, orphaned prince of the Bavarian Alps and scientific prodigy. Max had the distinction of being the youngest person admitted and kicked out of the University Of Munich when his methods were deemed "most profoundly unsettling."
Max stopped what he was doing momentarily to eyeball them before going about his business and talking into a tablet. "Kade I have located the guest of honor but he has company."
"Well give the blue man his gift and keep his company busy so he can have some time to play," Kade Kilgore the Black King ordered. "We need field data on this model before it gets put on the market. Oh, and get some video for the guys in advertising."
"Fine." The strange boy's fingers continued to move furiously over the glass. Even as he began to speak, his eyes never bothered to leave the screen.
"Mister... Wagner? Yes, right. On behalf of the Hellfire Club, welcome back."
The crate collapsed in all four directions revealing... "Bastion! I heard Hope had-"
"Oh, she did," Anna growled from Kurt's side.
"Do you like it? I tried to keep it close to the last one you faced Nightclawer, with the exception that this one doesn't have much of an AI in comparison. Precautionary reasons you understand."
"Whatever, we'll just be fixing to take this bucket of bolts apart anyway." Rogue declared drawing the sleeves of her top back, readying to land the first blow.
"I don't think so," the young evil scientist said. Fidgeting again with his pad, a metallic swarm suddenly appeared from behind him. "The Mark xii nanobot sentinels. Think killer bees, but made of metal and armed with lasers. Get her boys."
The metallic hive charged Rogue, lasers firing. "Arch, little- ah!" She hollered, trying frantically to swat them away.
"Rogue, take off while you can!" Kurt ordered, authority in his tone despite technically not really having any at this time.
"I can't just leave ya here alone." While not exactly the same, the whole situation was starting to feel a little too familiar for Anna's liking.
"Come back once you have shaken them off. I shall be fine in the meantime."
After a few moments of hesitation, Rogue finally flew off with the swarm following close behind.
"Well now that she's gone," Max sighed. "Let's begin, shall we? While you play, I'll just be taking notes."
The eyes of the recreated Bastion started to glow red and Kurt saw life come to its hands that began to curl. It loomed above giving an aura of great menace. With shaper metallic wings and cold dead stare both three years ago as now, Bastion appeared completely soulless, even when parts of the creature had been flesh.
Kurt felt himself coming down with the worst case of deja vu of his life. Before he could remember only bits from the day he died… or almost died. It was something for which Kurt was grateful he didn't remember the full details. Now everything was flooding back sharp and clear.
Out breath…tired. An ally…nein not here, Lord what I would give for some more space to maneuver…or just some more time. Not even enough time or breath to warn Hope to move so…
"Arghhh!"
A shot hit his back when he jumped in front of her. It burned and Kurt was on the ground in searing pain. He could hear the sounds of a valiant fight but he couldn't see what was happening till…
"HNN…Hope…"
Only time to…
Bamf!
Then more pain, so much more pain that Kurt barely registered that one thing he had always been so careful not to do since he got his powers had just happened. His body had phased around something, just enough in me for one last…
Bamf!
Finally safe… slipping, parting words of comfort to Hope, then just flashes - good times, bad and smiling faces, some smiles recurred more than others… A comforting bright warm smile that brought solace, no matter how big or small… Plush lips that curled almost knowingly, teasing, taunting him to speak the words his own lips held back.
Now too late to say...
A pained thought near as hurtful as his physical one, scarcely time to wonder if she'd always think of him, speak of him frequently like she did with Jean.
Ororo's face, her smile played often in a mix with others in a increasingly blurry loop until Kurt completely slipped away.
Even as the remade machine that had ended his life started to advance towards him, Kurt could still not bring himself to move. Would he have stayed fixed in that spot until a moment after it was too late? Luckily for Kurt he wouldn't have to find out.
Boom!
The thunder that roared was near ear splittingly loud and the lighting that followed it set the sky ablaze. Though they couldn't speak at the moment, Ororo got Kurt's attention, bringing him back to the here and now with her warning.
"Yes Mein Liebling, I shall stay on my toes," Kurt murmured as he made himself ready. "Speaking of toes."
Kurt took a running start ported the rest of the distance and slammed his feet into the center of Bastion's chest. The attack made vibrating thud against the metal and the machine was pushed a few staggered steps back. Which surprised Kurt till he thought on it.
Precautionary reasons right, truly these tiny terrors are not that foolish. They would not make something they didn't feel capable of controlling.
This Bastion was purely for the sake of getting under Kurt's skin. He was probably strong to be sure, but most likely nowhere near as intelligent and maybe not as physically advanced as the real Bastion had been. Kurt decided to test his theory.
Turning on the laser makeshift blade Hank had given him, Kurt charged once more making a leap and swipe for the android's head. Disappointment flashed across his face for the head remained perfectly on its shoulders without a single scratch.
"A combination of adamantium and vibranium. That butter knife won't be getting through that," the half-pint answered the question Kurt never asked.
"Wunderbar…" Kurt remarked sarcastically just before darting out of the line of fire.
"The mutant Nightcrawler is to be terminated."
It appeared that Bastion was now fully operational and was shooting wave after wave of the same energy blast Kurt now remembered searing his back three years ago.
Well if I cannot cut my way through it, surely a punch or kick will be wasted energy and open me to attack. I may find aid in or by the school but that could bring more fire down upon them and that's where the students are sheltering.
Kurt took the defensive instead, giving way to a great chase. Sprinting, teleporting, climbing, and leaping off of whatever he could, Kurt managed to stay just out of reach. However, it took a lot of effort and it wasn't a pace that could be maintained forever.
"The mutant Nightcrawler is to be terminated."
Oh if I had a nickel for every time I heard that.
Flying along side all the action using a rocket pack, Max started to get annoyed. "Do you mind? I don't have all night you know. Could you like.. fight, and die so I can get this data and go home."
"Oh sorry little one," Kurt huffed as he ran on all fours.
"Hey, I am not little! I will have you know I am the average and correct height for my age group!" He shouted, flying closer to Kurt's side.
"Hmm ja, at your age I used to tell myself everyone else was strange for not being blue."
"Please, all these years in the states and you still speak with an accent, Esstinkt nachschlechten Zucht"
Nightcrawler took the wonder kid's tongue slip as a sign he was on the right track. "Well, the ladies seem to enjoy it just fine, so why not? Then again, I guess you are a bit young and too small for putting your toys aside to play with girls. No shame in it. We all bloom in our own time."
Blast!
Bamf!
Kurt didn't port very far that time and not too surprising, Max had crunched all the numbers in his head in a near instant and guessed where the elf would appear. He was by Kurt's side, face tomato red. "Don't you think with my intelligence, if I wanted to be taller, needed to be taller, I would have already done- Hey, what are you-"
What Kurt had been doing was keeping the young doctor busy and bringing him close enough to make a play for the tablet he seemed to be using to control Bastion.
Kurt latched onto the boy. With the extra weight on the pack they both tumbled to the ground. This knocked the controls out Max's hands sending it smashing to the ground.
"That was a waste," the preteen huffed.
"The mutant Nightcrawler is to be terminated." Bastion repeated landing in front of them.
"Killing you is built into his core programing. Destroying the controls did no good."
Kurt didn't have the energy to take off again, teleporting or on all fours. "Well I bet you built other things into that program too, like maybe not to hurt its creator." He held firm onto the boy as Bastion made his approach.
"Alright, Alright! Bastion stand down." Max ordered but the robot didn't appear to be obeying.
"The mutant Nightcrawler is to be terminated."
The machine raised a hand and began revving up to fire one big blast.
"Oh great, busting the controls made him haywire. Now we're both screwed!" he moaned, struggling in Kurt's arms.
Kurt wouldn't hold a child to harm, even this one. He let go and Max was quickly out the way leaving Kurt to take the blast alone.
"The mutant Nightcrawler is to be terminated."
"I believe… you have said that… already," Kurt stammered trying to muster enough energy to teleport.
"Kurt!"
Thoughts of Ororo ran through his mind making him assume the call of his name with her ethereal tone was just wishful thinking.
"Kurt, move!"
On second thought-
"For goddess sake, move your tail before I choke you with it!"
The threat not sounding imaginary or empty, Kurt needed no more confirmation it was Ororo. He managed to fling himself out of the away in just enough time to merely get clipped in a shoulder. A fiery pain raked over his whole left side causing Kurt's hands to ball up on the ground, along with the rest his body. He hissed out his ache through clenched teeth.
A second after Bastion fired, lighting struck his metal head. His head split in two, but as soon as the smoke cleared, Kurt could see the android beginning to heal itself just like the previous Bastion.
"Error! Catastrophic damage. Must repair."
Kurt focused on the fact this was not over to shove the fire still radiating through him aside and got back on his feet. "Nice shot Mein Liebling, but I am afraid it was not enough!" Kurt shouted, finally looking up to the sight of his own personal angel.
"I might be able to overload him if I can hit him with something strong enough. However, that will take time. Can you give me some?" Ororo asked smiling down at him.
"Consider it yours liebchen." It was the best idea in the moment, but that didn't mean Kurt liked it and not just because he was already so spent.
It was a tactic they had used many times before, although in better circumstances they would have a third person - one to distract the target, keep it in a small area for easier aiming, and a third person to watch Storm's back while she summoned a strong enough bolt.
During that time she would hover in a meditative state leaving her very open to an attack, as she was now. Kurt's eyes wandered just enough from Bastion to catch the young villain pulling out a miniature firearm.
"No interfering with the test or the data will be skewed" Max said taking aim at Ororo while she hovered above.
Expertly tumbling away from Bastion's grasp, Kurt landed in front of the little evil genius. "Nein, children and weapons should not mix. His tail wrapped around what at quick glance look to be some kind of blaster, then chucked it a good distance away.
"Hey that's new!" the child screamed, running off after it.
Well hopefully that should keep him out the way, Kurt thought as he charged into Bastion with a kick to his head. He hadn't expect it to do much, but he wanted a distraction since the robot's attention had drifted to where Ororo was floating.
Another five minutes went by leaving Kurt feeling exhausted once more. Not a moment too soon he heard three big claps of thunder, which was the standard signal to get clear.
"The mutant Nightclawer is to be terminated."
"Not to be disagreeable or anything, but I believe the frau has a problem with that. I shall leave you to take it up with her."
Bamf!
Kurt's smoke hadn't even cleared when Ororo struck. Looking on from a close but safe distance, Kurt thought he had never seen an attack from Storm look so angry. The sky was a swirling soup of clouds. When the lighting ripped it made a straight beeline towards its intended target. It didn't miss. Kurt took great pleasure in watching the mechanical beast spark, crackle, then burst into many pieces.
Ororo waited to make sure that had been enough and that the sentinel was not putting itself back together. Once Kurt gave her the all clear, Ororo couldn't get to him fast enough. Kurt was as equally eager to be at her side. Their bodies collided, limbs becoming an intertwined tangled mess during the snug embrace. It was a frantically tender greeting of nuzzling noses, caressing cheeks and brushing lips.
While not the safe way to go about it, taking their frustration out on lifeless metal did seem to do the trick. The once bricking pair started profusely apologizing at the same time.
"I'm so-"
"I shouldn't have-"
"I should go first Kurt. I was the one-"
"Nein, I should."
Eventually they both gave up saying it together, breaking down with ragged laughter of relief and joy over the others well-being.
"Our first fight is certainly one for the scrapbook liebe."
"Yes, but I didn't like it one bit. Let us try not to do it again if it can be helped."
"Agreed. I did not enjoy myself either" Kurt sighed, sweeping wild strands of snowy locks off Ororo's face.
"Again, I'm so sorry. I was just hurt and angry…" Tired in every sense of the word. Ororo found she could hold back no longer, breaking down shedding tears as the sky started to release the tiniest drops of rain.
When she saw Anna flying by without Kurt, she feared the worst. When she zapped the metal swarm chasing Rogue and found out about Bastion, Ororo's fears had burst through sky. She feared she would get here too late, once again losing Kurt and the chance to speak her heart.
It was not the ideal time or place. Ororo was still very unsure of just what to say. Nothing seemed to do service to all she felt for him, but it was impossible for her to hold back any longer. It all came tumbling out, with no filter in her words or on her face.
"I love you Kurt. Maybe from the minute you woke up and spoke to me argh, or who knows it have been before that." Kurt's arms were still around Ororo but he had become eerily motionless.
I wonder if the world suddenly stopped from him as well?
The time and space around them somehow felt like it came to a searching halt with just three words. Even the rain came to a halt. Looking into Kurt's normally expressive face, for once she found a complete blank. Ororo didn't know if this was a good or bad sign.
Maybe my declaration rings false coming on the tail end of a dire moment. Might he reject it not believing it's true?
Ororo didn't think her raw heart could handle that possibility nor abide thought of Kurt walking this Earth with a single fragment of doubt about her feelings. With fear and love mixing in her heart, she forced herself to continue.
"Scared or blind I still haven't decided. It's only grown since it started. Now I love you far too much to ever stop."
Ororo felt a steady stream of tears on her cheeks. Her breath was coming in and out very shaky yet she didn't pause to catch it. "Not that I want to. I am yours in every way there is to be had. If I had walls left in me to put up I wouldn't." There was none she thought that would stand up to him anyway.
Kurt stripped away blocks Ororo had spent a lifetime building for her sake as much as for others. Somewhere in the middle of the chaos it occurred that's why what happened with Rachel had hurt so much. She had been completely vulnerable. If she had to be defenseless with anyone, Ororo was glad that her heart had chosen so wisely. It was more than trusting Kurt. She loved him. Not even better judgment or fear could get in the way of that for very long.
"I love you like I can't recall loving another, with all that I am and so deeply my words feel-"
The tap of a finger on her lips halted Ororo's rambling. "Shh…I know Mein Liebling, for what you have not said you have more than shown." Not that hearing it from Ororo's lips with all her untamed emotion wasn't a soul stirring experience for him. The tears that flowed freely from the blue pools of her eyes, the desperate plea in her voice, her heart pounding so wildly he could feel it. All together it was a humble, beautiful and unrestrained display that was full of more love than anyone had ever shown Kurt.
"Ororo, your words and the love you have already given has made me feel greater than anything I dare asked for, yet is everything I have ever wanted."
It no longer felt like enough just holding Ororo. Words no longer felt like expression enough of all he was feeling. Kurt caressed her face with one hand. Carefully, lovingly back and forth, the sweeps taking the edge off so he could tell her one last thing before he was too caught up in this moment to speak.
"Ich liebe dich Ororo. Long before today and I swear will continue to do so long after I stop drawing breath." It was a fact that had already been proven, so making it a promise wasn't an issue.
With one hand already holding her face the other gather Ororo closer, holding her so tightly air would find a hard time getting between. He had a brief concern that because of their fight Ororo, may not care to be kissed right now. However, every part of her Kurt could take in seemed to welcome the closeness.
Their lips had scarcely touched when they parted in a glazed tandem. Sighing moans also followed one right after the other. They slowly let go everything else, sinking completely into each other.
Feeling as if he had been deprived of Ororo's taste and this moment for too long, what started as quiet passion turned into a fervent expression the instant Kurt's tongue found hers. Twisting and tugging fiercely, Ororo's muffled whimpers only encouraged his intensity.
He held her face with care but she wouldn't have been able to budge an inch.
When Kurt pulled back it was only to catch Ororo's bottom lip with his as she gasped for air. It drew a soft cry that he played over and over like a well know tune.
Ororo had guessed it was inevitable that this kiss would be close their first and had already decided not to care when she felt the lightshow spontaneously erupt in the sky above them. With Kurt's kiss, his love rolling through her like thunder, the rarely seen burst of red lighting that streaked across the sky couldn't have concerned the weather witch less.
Kurt released her lips to hastily mummer against them "Meine, meine Ororo wie ich dich liebe." Then Ororo found herself awash in soft tender pecks. The corners of her mouth, the apple of her cheeks, the lids of her eyes, each one pressed firm yet given gentle reverence.
As if the little kiss sealed all the feeling of the big one, Ororo was surprised she had a coherent thought in her while Kurt claimed the last few scattered remnants of her lonely being he had not already seized. The last kiss so simple and pure, Kurt's close lips pressed to Ororo's just like the day she remembered him waking up.
Their loved filled her in the moment so much joy it seemed impossible her feet were still on the ground. Only flying had ever felt nearly as liberating, yet it was only Ororo's soul that Kurt had sent racing to the stars.
When their eyes drifted open, Ororo had no words to describe how she felt or how amazing that was. He had caught her body, mind, and spirit, and not a part of Ororo wished to deny that.
"I love you," was the best she could manage.
By the look of euphoric and utter contentment on Kurt's face, she guessed it radiate off her enough for him to know the rest.
Kurt had a hundred more elaborate and poetic ways to reply. Out of all them he chose to say what it would always boil down to - "I love you too."
As Ororo's heart and mind sped back towards earth, Kurt's thumbs wiped her stray tears, allowing Ororo to finally see his injury.
"Oh beloved, your shoulder is singed."
"Tis nothing," he shrugged it off, grinning at the bump in his pet name while slipping a hand in hers. "Besides, I shall have the most beautiful and compassionate of nurses to attended to me."
Ororo hoped his flirting was a sign the pain was at least tolerable. "And also the strictest. I see lots of bed rest before you pick up a sword or teleport again Herr Wagner."
"So long as my nurse is keeping me company in bed, I promise to be a very good patient" Kurt assured, placing a hand over his heart.
Ororo mockingly rolled her eyes at Kurt's grin before both their faces turned wistful. They desired more time to fully express the way they were feeling, but it would have to wait.
"It looks like Rogue and Gambit were able to clean up what was left of bigger ones."
The use of code names a single Storm had returned and so must Nightcrawler.
"We should make are way back to the main building then. It looks quiet from here, so probably just a few long hours of clean up ahead."
Ororo came back long enough to brighten Kurt's sullen face. "It won't matter how many hours beloved, we have a lifetime ahead to spend together." Leaning into his face she gave his lips a quick tap and nuzzled a cheek. "Plus, the rest of the night to finish making up."
"A lifetime ja, I suppose you're right liebe." With all that had happened, Kurt forgot about his deal with Mephisto. Staying alive wouldn't have meant much if he couldn't do it next to her. Now I get to do both, and continuing to make up sounds promising too. The thought brought a content smile as they started walking back.
"My liebe, you sure did a number," Kurt remarked noting how Ororo's lighting had not only taken out Bastion, but ripped up some of the ground and surrounding trees as well.
"In this case, better too much than- oh my, there is child pinned and unconscious under that tree!" Ororo let go of Kurt's hand. She rushed to the child's side and was soon starting to call a wind to aid her in moving the tree.
"I shall go fetch whatever help I can get," Kurt called out, teleporting to the clinic in the next instant.
"Argh, my stars and garters. Kurt honestly! Not even a full month back and you are already ruining my work." Hank chastised, immediately catching sight of Kurt's shoulder.
"Chew me out later. Right now one of your students is pinned under a tree."
"Really?" Hank asked sounding surprised while he read over a chart. "I'm assisting Dr. Reyes and Dr. Rao in treating all the injured. A head count was just done and every child is present and accounted for."
"Well than who was-"
Bamf!
"Ororo!" Kurt called out her name before his feet touched the ground. Panic hit him with all the force of a Mac truck when he didn't see her.
"Ororo!"
"Ahh…Kurt…"
The aching moan of his name came from behind the fallen tree where he left her. There had been a single solitary moment of unadulterated relief when Kurt first glimpsed her. Taking in Ororo's face and upper half, nothing seemed wrong other than the battle weariness she already had a few minutes before. Then he saw the blood soaking through the mid section of her dress.
His eyes widen in horror as dropped to her side with a gasp. "Ororo, Bitte Gott nein…"
End of chapter…
Thanks so much for reading. I'd like to do more action in the future and this was my first baby step into that area, so if you enjoyed or didn't any part of chapter please feel free to let me know.
Ok Amazing X-Men number 1# (Don't worry no spoilers.)
It was fantastic! Well all the Kurt parts were and really you know that's why I showed up. I'm loving seeing my elf swing three swords around, look commanding and happy as a pig in slop. It almost makes up for the way Marvel has been breaking my heart lately. But whatever I'm not getting into that. I'm all in on this for right now. For what my opinion is worth I highly recommend this issue to any X-Men or just Kurt fan.
