Lita woke up the next morning feeling refreshed in what felt like a very long time. She was feeling a little sick once again which she still blamed on the medicine she had to take, but at least she was still feeling better mentally and physically than she ever had in a long time. She hadn't been attacked by Matt in over a month so her body didn't hurt. She didn't have any nightmares that consisted of Matt so she was actually able to sleep through the night. She felt mentally strong the last couple of days and today was no different. More importantly, she felt safe. Even after what happened a month and a half ago, the redhead felt pretty safe at the moment because neither she nor any of her friends heard anything from Matt the last few weeks. Lita knew she would be naive to think he was done coming after her, but for some reason she wasn't quite sure of, she still felt safe.

The woman sat up and looked around the room and noticed it was a little before eight. She wasn't sure if John had woken up yet or not. While at the motel, she noticed that sometimes he woke up early and other times he slept in a bit. She felt pretty awkward just sitting there, but she didn't want to walk around and disturb him if he was still asleep. Unknown to Lita, John wasn't able to fall back asleep after Edge's phone call a few hours earlier and he wasn't even in the apartment at the time being.

Lita got up out from the bed when she thought she would just take that risk because she was in need of some water, her throat was feeling dry. She walked out of the room as quietly as possible so she wouldn't disturb John even if he was awake. She was thankful he offered her a place to stay when he didn't have to so she was going to try and stay out of his way. Lita was surprised by the scene in the living room when she entered it. There was Edge sitting on the couch watching tv.

"What are you doing here?" The redhead asked the blonde who finally noticed her presence and quickly changed the channel to something random because he was previously watching the news when he saw her walking towards him. He didn't want the risk of Melina's death being presented on the news right in front of Lita which he knew was possible because he already saw it once.

"I repeat, what are you doing here? It's only almost eight. Did something happen?"

"No," Edge interrupted Lita before she could jump to any conclusions. "John stepped out for a moment because he had something to do and asked me to stay with you."

"Um, okay." Lita had a feeling there was more to the truth because Edge seemed jumpy since the second he heard her voice. "Where's Dawn? Did you leave her at home?"

"Yea, she's going to work," Edge lied because it would be much easier than to explain why she was with John.

"It's Saturday and like I said before, it's only eight. She never works on the weekend."

"She has a house she needs to get done soon so she needed to get some work done."

Lita began to get more suspicious after that answer. She had no clue what was going on, but she had an inkling it was something big. "I don't believe you. What's wrong? Did something happen? Is it M... him?" The last question came out shaky. She was feeling pretty confident and safe when she woke up, but now she was just getting suspicious and scared.

Edge should have known she would somehow catch on but that didn't mean he was going to give in and tell her the truth. All three agreed that they wouldn't tell Lita anything about what happened to Melina just yet. They knew they couldn't keep that piece of information away from her, but she just left the psychiatric ward and they didn't want to worry her already. And it wasn't like they actually knew Matt was behind Melina's death, but all three were pretty positive he did.

"No," Edge continued to lie. "John was called down to the fire station for some reason and Dawn wanted to get some work done."

"It couldn't wait til later?" Lita questioned. He was a pretty great liar and wasn't jumpy anymore so she was having a difficult time trying to read him.

Edge shook his head. He was hoping she would leave it alone, but it didn't look like she would any time soon. "He was needed down there for a reason. As for Dawn, like I told you, she wants to get some stuff done for her next house."

"Are you sure they aren't lying to you so they could just run away together?" Lita joked, trying to lighten the mood. She wasn't sure if she believed Edge was telling the truth or not. Edge simply stared her like she said something dumb. "Okay. Stupid joke," she said before she went to the kitchen to get a glass of water like she initially intended. That's when Edge took the chance to send a quick text to John that Lita was pretty skeptical about what he was telling her.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" Lita asked when she showed up next to Edge once again. He was about to tell her there was nothing going on because he thought that's what she was referring to, but then he became aware she was staring at the tv and that's when he realized what channel it was on.

"Oh," Edge said when he saw the television was turned on some kid's network. "That Boots is one funny monkey."

Lita merely stared at him for a while as he ignored her and pretended to be entertained by the children's show. She shook her head and let out a sigh as she looked at the tv. "You're weird." Edge said nothing as Lita headed towards the bathroom.

"Lita suspects there's something going on and it deals with Matt," John began to say to Dawn who was sitting right beside him in the car as he put his phone away and began to drive off. They were finally leaving after spending the last three hours at the police station. "Edge said he told her I was called down to the fire house and you're working against a deadline which is why you're at work. She's not buying it."

Dawn let out a tired sigh. She was so fed up by all of this and was hoping it would end for good soon with Matt finally getting what he deserved. "She's not stupid. We should tell her. I mean-"

"No," John shook his head. "Like we all said when we agreed right now isn't the time, she just left the hospital yesterday. She seems to be doing fine right now. This is the strongest I remember seeing her in a long time. We shouldn't tell her something that will tear her down and set her back."

"But we can't lie either. She'll find out some time."

"Let's just hope and pray Matt finally gets caught. That would make everything easier."

"It would, but there isn't anything easy about this situation so don't hold your breath," Dawn replied before it fell into silence between the two.

"Do you think they're actually going to go on with looking into her death as a possible homicide?" Dawn randomly asked breaking the silence as she turned her attention away from the scenery outside and towards John. The reason they went to the police station in the first place was to get some information out of the detectives in charge of investigating Melina's death. She wanted to know if they would actually investigate it and not just rule it as a suicide.

John glanced over at Dawn for a moment and nodded before he focused his attention back to the road. "They did say her body had bruises on it like someone physically abused her. They're going to find out Matt did this to her and then they can link her death to him."

"That's not going to happen!" Dawn furiously yelled which caused John to glance at her and he could tell she was just as angry as she sounded. "That bastard always gets away with everything! He better not get away with murdering someone!"

"He won't. He will eventually get caught with all of this," John said as he continued to drive. He wasn't just trying to convince Dawn of what he was saying; he was also trying to convince himself as well. "They said there are bruisings and markings on Melina's body so hopefully they can find Matt's fingerprints-" He was about to say more but was interrupted by the angry woman.

"They didn't match that bitch's DNA when he raped Li so how the hell are they going to match his fingerprints?!"

"There's a difference between DNA and fingerprints-"

"Yea, DNA is supposed to be strong proof," Dawn interrupted John once again.

"They already explained why the DNA was no help. They will find his fingerprints on her and they will investigate it."

"He was careful and left nothing behind when he attacked Li other than that stupid DNA which didn't help! Why would this be any different?! The cops are assholes! They aren't going to do anything just like every time anyone has complained about Matt!"

"Okay, I know this is hard for you to do right now, but you need to calm down. This isn't the same station Matt works at. This isn't the same station we have dealt with before. I actually have worked with these people before a couple of times for a fire and I know that one officer we talked to doesn't bullshit so he's going to do whatever he has to to get to the truth. Not all officers are corrupted jackasses."

"How can you be so sure?" Dawn asked much calm then before.

John let out a sigh. "I'm just trying to stay positive."

Dawn snorted. "That's different. There's nothing positive about this damn thing." She continued after becoming serious again. "Let's say he does get caught, but what if he gets to Lita before that happens? You said we shouldn't tell them we think Matt did any of this because it's not like we have any proof and they could just turn us away and we should wait a little while longer before we lead them to him, but he's walking around free. He killed Melina, he could get to Lita too and do whatever he wants. He's capable of anything. He's a heartless bastard."

"He won't," John replied defiantly. "I won't let him. He's gonna have to get through me first this time and I'm not going to let him get anywhere near her. Not again."

Dawn noticed he was clutching hard at the steering wheel at the thought of Matt getting to Lita again and looked determined to keep Matt away from Lita which was why she felt like she had to believe him. She knew him and she knew he would do whatever he could to keep the redhead safe like he had been doing for the past couple of months. She was thankful her and Edge had his assistance with helping Lita. He was huge help for all of them probably because he had personal experience with this with his mom. She knew it had to be reopening old wounds, but brunette man was always there for the redheaded woman.

"John, I don't know if I said this to you before or not, but thank you for helping us. Thanks for helping Li. You have done so much and I sure as hell appreciate it and I know she does too. So thank you for everything."

"Don't mention it. Seriously, don't. I wasn't going to turn my back on her or any of you when I heard what was going on." Dawn simply nodded in response as the two continued their ride back to the building he lived in in silence.

"You should probably come inside and wait outside the door for Edge so you're not out here alone in case we're being stalked and Lita doesn't see you with me and starts getting suspicious all over again," John said a few minutes later when they arrived back outside the apartment building he lived in.

"Alright," Dawn nodded and unbuckled her seatbelt before opening the door and getting out the car with John doing the same.

The duo walked into the building in silence and went up to the floor where his unit was located in the building with Dawn waiting a few feet away for her husband to join her so they could leave. She wanted to visit Trish so she could be there with her friend who lost her roommate who also happened to be her cousin. There was a part of her that wanted to be with Lita to reassure her everything was okay even though it wasn't, but she knew Lita would definitely catch up that something was wrong especially when Edge told her Dawn had an important deadline to meet.

"Hey," John greeted Edge who was still on the couch watching tv. "Where is she?" He asked when he walked over to his friend who turned off the tv and got up from where he was seated.

Edge gestured towards one of the rooms. "She went back to sleep because she said she felt sick and even threw up. She wasn't looking too good. It was weird because she was fine when she came in here when she first woke up and it came out of nowhere."

"Oh," was all John said in regards to that while staring at the close door before looking back at the blonde. "Dawn is waiting out there for you. She'll fill you in on what happened. I'm exhausted. I don't know if I'll actually be able to fall asleep, but she's sleeping so I might as well lie down for a while."

"Alright," Edge said as he walked towards the door so he could leave. "I guess I'll just see you later." With that said he left and John went to lie down on the couch. He was about to go to his room, but he didn't want Lita to think she was left alone in case he did fall asleep and she woke up soon. He turned on the tv for some background noise and eventually fell asleep himself.

"Let's go," Edge said to Dawn when he arrived in front of her. "Hello, is anyone there?" He asked waving a hand in front of her face when she didn't notice he was near her now and talking to her.

"What? When did you get here?" Dawn asked when she snapped out of it and finally came back to reality.

"Just now. You seem distracted. What are you thinking about?"

"Lita and John," Dawn answered as the two walked towards the nearby elevators and got in since it was already open and was going down because someone just got off of it. She pressed the button for the first floor after the two were in the elevator.

"She's okay, but I feel like the only reason she believes me is because she doesn't want to think Matt did anything. John is fine too, well as fine as he can be."

Dawn shook her head. "That wasn't what I was talking about. I need your help."

"With what?" Edge said before she could continue.

Dawn rolled her eyes and exited from the elevator with Edge doing the same with them then walking towards their car in the parking lot. "I was getting there before you interrupted me. But I need your help hooking those two up."

"You need my help with what?" Edge asked when he felt like he didn't hear her correctly.

Dawn rolled her eyes once again. The duo arrived to their car and got in before she responded. "I need you to help me hook up John and Li. She deserves someone like him after everything she's been through. I know they both could be really good for one another. I have a feeling he could be developing a little crush on her and who knows? She could be too. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case because they have been spending a lot of time together and have been getting to know one another better."

Edge looked at his wife in disbelief. He shook his head and began to drive away. "You're crazy. Have you seen any signs that either of them is developing a crush on the other like you say?"

"He cares about her a lot-"

"Like a friend and he is helping her out," Edge interrupted Dawn which earned him a glare.

"Look, I just know these things, okay? I know before they know and that's normal. Are you going to help me or not?"

Edge sighed before he answered her question. "Do you really think she cares about men right now? The Matt problem is still looming around her-"

"But it's John," Dawn cut him off. "He's not like Matt and she knows that. He would never hit her and she knows that. He would never treat her like dirt and he knows that. I know they can be good for each other. Maybe this is something she needs. She needs to move on."

"Or maybe it could just be a horrible idea. I repeat, the Matt problem is still looming around her. It could be too soon."

"Or not."

"Dawn-"

"Fine. I don't need your help, I can do this by myself."

"Look, getting them together isn't important right now. Making sure Matt stays away from her and all of us without causing any more harm and finally gets what he deserves is."

"Like I said, I'll do this by myself."

"Fine. Don't come complaining to me when this backfires."

"It won't."

"It's bad timing."

"It's not. Now you can stop talking and just tell me 'good luck'. Thanks."

Edge said nothing in response as he continued to drive while Dawn silently plotted. He knew he and John were the only men outside of her father and brother Lita was comfortable to be around with at the moment, but that didn't mean she was ready to date his friend. He knew how stubborn Dawn was so he didn't think there was a way to convince her not to go on with whatever she came up with.
