Sorry it's been a while again. My family moved, we got busy, I was mostly done this chapter and lost it due to a USB malfunction...yeah...

I typed up what I remembered, then slowly worked on the rest. Enjoy!~

* Miki *

Daichi took way too long to be convinced to leave...

As soon as he did leave, however, Shuuichi sat down in the chair across the table from the couch she was currently lounging on. It was comfortable, and Miki was very tempted to ignore him for the time being, but he had been staring rather pointedly for the last five minutes. Miki was tempted to blow him off and go to bed, but she was also curious, so she found herself asking:

"What's up?"

Shuuichi blinked, but answered her question:

"Your dominant hand has changed." Miki sighed.

"One track mind, aren't you?"

Shuuichi shrugged.

"It's been bothering me since you arrived. You have been using the wrong hand for eating, writing, texting, even gripping the railing on the way down the stairs."

Miki bit her lip. It really was that noticeable?

"It's not the wrong hand," she carefully corrected, "just the other hand."

"Tell me what happened."

He was not going to let this one slide, she realized with an inward groan.

"All right," she relented, "I knew someone had it in for me, but my guard was done and I did not think he would attack me that night. He slit my arm. I barely managed to get away and bandage it up to stop myself from bleeding out. Then I fell unconscious, likely from a cow prod." Subaru made a face about that. "When I woke up, I was on a plane...and there were a lot of bombs...plastic bombs..."

He made another face at that one. His faces were beginning to speak volumes to her, but she forced herself to not say anything about it. It would only weird him out, after all...right?

"Anything else?"

Miki thought for a moment, biting her lip, then nodded.

"I was the only person to make that flight."

Subaru was definitely paying attention now. Also, now that she thought about it, her story was quite unbelievable to anyone who did not have the unfortunate mind she did.

"And the pilot?" Subaru asked.

"I was the only person to make that flight," she repeated.

"On a commercial flight...that's impossible!"

Subaru was very clearly baffled, as if this was beyond any case he had attempted to solve before. Surely he had dealt with tougher, more complicated ones!

"And you're thinking of taking this guy down?" Oh, that was why he was so baffled...right...

"Yes," she confirmed.

"You're insane."

"No, the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again, expecting something different. This is the first time I have attempted this."

Shuuichi merely raised an eyebrow.

"All right, all right, I'm crazy. Is that better?"

"Much."

"Not insane." He smirked at that one.

"Should I tell Yukiko about you?"

"Sure!" Miki exclaimed with a mischievous grin."Tell her a friend she gave standing permission to crash here has taken her up on her offer and says hello from the grave! She might even agree with you!"

Miki knew exactly what Subaru would do. He would look from her to the phone and back a total of three times, then sigh, close it and hand it over. Then, when she informed him she did not, in fact, intend to inform Yukiko the next morning, he would glare at her mercilessly for a moment, but let it go.

Yukiko was a back up plan. She did not actually want to bring her into this unless she absolutely had to. Likely, she was already involved, if Subaru's face had anything to say on the matter, but there was no need to bring her in any further than she already was.

He did exactly as she predicted – with one small exception: instead of glaring at her, he merely paused for a moment. It really bothered her. Where had she gone wrong? What had she missed?

The last time she made that mistake, she had nearly died and had to disappear for a number of years.

That mistake.

What was it again?

* Miwako *

"Inspector Megure," Miwako addressed formally.

"Ah, Satou-kun," Megure replied. "What is it?"

"As part of the case recently closed with Habiki, I felt it would be worthwhile to look into the information we have on Madeira," she began.

"She has not acted in ten years!" Megure exclaimed. "What connection does she have with the recent murder case?"

Miwako understood his baffled look. She found it a little hard to believe herself, but what Daichi had said really bothered her: Madeira.

"I know, but according to the case files-that a witness somehow knew about-Habiki-san has only been killing those who are connected to Madeira somehow, so I felt it would be worth a look at the very least."

"Which witness?" Megure asked carefully. Satou nodded.

"Takoyaki Daichi," Satou managed. "Come to think of it, he may know something more. I'll...continue to ask him about those two: Habiki and Madeira. He seems to know things we could never have dreamed. In fact, he went so far as to ask the name of the parents that were slaughtered in the case where Madeira first made her appearance. I wanted to have a look into it myself as Madeira was a help to my father ten years ago, to the point where he was willing to give me a picture of her hair pin."

Megure nodded as Satou had hoped he would, but then he paused and seemed to switch gears.

"Before you go look," he said suddenly. "Is someone monitoring Amarante?"

Miwako twisted her lip. Was there? She had kind of left that up to the group with them at the time. She sighed, went with the truth and hoped it was enough.

"Well there was a bit of an argument between Amuro and Daichi over who would drive her to the hospital. I took charge, telling Amuro to take Amarante, Ran and Conan to the hospital while Takagi and I took Daichi over. Everyone stayed with her afterward." Megure sighed heavily.

"What about her statement?"

Takagi looked like he had been found guilty of murder.

"We forgot," he sheepishly admitted.

"And the rest of them?" Augh! They had completely forgotten in all that excitement!

"Calling her now!" Takagi exclaimed, double-checking the number before he dialed it.

Before Miwako dialed anyone's number, she continued speaking with the Inspector:

"Mind, I would also like to look into Daichi's history. He said that someone might be after Madeira's sword. Not only that, but Habiki and Viola are connected to her somehow, and they likely will say nothing even if we interrogate them proper."

There was another heavy sigh from Megure.

"I'll be sure to tell the officers they may question Habiki thoroughly. Also, Viola should be asked a few questions, not necessarily too harshly, since she turned herself in. She may be more willing to talk if we are friendly." Miwako nodded and began dialing just as Takagi finished talking. "We'll also call Daichi in again."

Amarante agreed to come in the next morning, thankfully, as well as the rest of the group. Her and Takagi coordinated to make sure the kids were separated from Amarante and Amuro, just so they could have more details on the case when they were done. Daichi would come in alone another time.

* Miki *

When the phone rang in the middle of the night, after a full day and already agreeing to come in for questioning the next day, Miki was tempted to just hang up without answering the phone. Instead, she pinched herself to wake her up.

"Good evening," she greeted.

"Good evening," Bourbon answered in a low voice. Based on the voice in the background, he had just barely managed to sneak away and likely had a very limited time window.

"What is it?" She asked.

The line went quiet. Miki patiently waited in silence, knowing that a single word from her could land him in an incredibly awkward situation, maybe even get him killed. She only had to wait about a minute.

"Try again tomorrow night?"

"Works for me," Miki admitted.

Now to sleep...

* Jodie *

Jodie was driving Camel out to a restaurant to double-check a menu item for Shuuichi, when Camel's phone went off, signalling an email message. He opened it and blinked at the contents:

"Hail from the old mother crow named Black Death. Thank your red friend. She may request an audience. I advise against charging in, instead we should wait with open arms holding tasty morsels," Camel read aloud. "It's sent from James' email."

"What?!" Jodie exclaimed. "What does that even mean?"

"I suppose 'red friend' refers to Akai-san," Camel offered as they drove along the highway.

"Hail from the old mother crow named Black Death..." Jodie trailed off. "I wonder what that could possibly mean...or why he sent it in code in the first place!" Camel chuckled.

"It sounds like someone in charge of something. Something to do with crows, or people who look like crows-"

"-the organization!" Jodie cut him off with an exclamation as soon as she realized it. "They wear black all the time and their boss' email address has something to do with a crow song!"

Camel nodded in agreement. That meant she was probably right.

"You're probably right." Well, it was something constantly on their minds that they had discussed with James before, so it was probably accurate.

"Who even is Black Death?" The name was odd and did not sound nice. "It doesn't even sound like a name they would normally use." Another nod from Camel.

"Ask James?"

"Yeah, do that," Jodie confirmed. Camel nodded yet again.

To their surprise, they got back:

"Black Death? The organization?"

"Send him the original message," Jodie decided. "Maybe he forgot."

Camel sent back the original message.

"I think it was either someone who has it in for her or it was herself," was the reply.

"What sort of idiot announces herself like that?" Jodie snorted, but then had to take a hard left and had to pull over because a piece of paper got stuck to her windshield.

They got out and took a look at the sheet of paper.

"This kind?" Camel suggested, holding it up for her to see.

It was a notice from Kaito Kid about his next heist. Jodie had to give him that one.

"Should we tell the police?" He asked.

"Yes," Jodie confirmed, "especially if we don't want to blow our cover."

He nodded and began dialing the number.
