Spencer made sure to get up early.
Normally she would have enjoyed the opportunity to sleep in since it was the weekend but after last night's revelation, she was eager for more information.
Getting up from her bed, Spencer wasted no time in doing her morning routine. After finishing her bathroom stuff, the teen changed into something casual to wear for the day; planning to change before they headed off to the club. Once she was dressed, Spencer looked through her wardrobe to look for something for tonight; finding a simple but elegant white dress. She grabbed a hanger and hung the garment up to keep it wrinkle free.
Grabbing her bag, the teen left her room and headed downstairs to the kitchen. While she planned to get some coffee at The Brew, she did want a quick sip if there was any made in the house. Her father, much to her surprise, was already up and reading the morning paper and appeared surprised to see her up so early. Spencer was equally caught off guard since her father also liked to sleep in on the weekends if he didn't have work.
"Morning sport; what are you doing up so early?" Peter asked as sipped his coffee. He was dressed in a pair of light blue pajamas covered by a green robe that she had bought for him for Christmas last year.
"Thought I would go get some coffee and sweets for Mona; she came home last night so I thought I would treat her," Spencer said as she pour herself a small cup and took a drink.
"Well that is nice of you; me and your mother are glad you two are hitting it off," Peter said as he glanced down at his paper.
"We're friends dad; we are not dating," Spencer said, wondering if her father was getting the wrong idea about her and Mona.
"That's not what I meant; I am just astounded that you and Mona became friends given the differences between the two of you," stated her father and Spencer still wasn't sure what he meant.
"Mona and I are basically equal in intelligence as well as the top of our class. I am pretty sure that it makes sense that we are friends," stated the teen with a shrug.
"As well as your mutual hatred of the girl next door?" he asked, motioning to the residence that could be seen out the window.
That statement definitely caught the teen off guard and she didn't know just how to respond to that without tipping her hand. It was true that Spencer hated Alison and in a way has voiced that a few times as of late; but she was pretty sure that she hasn't been over doing it in her complaints about the blond. Then again, Spencer knew for a fact that her father for some reason hated the family next door as well as her mother; a hatred that was evident even when Spencer had been a apart of Alison's posse. Maybe Mona would have a clue if there was a reason for that hatred and figured she would ask her.
"Mona's hatred of Alison isn't relevant as well as mine; we are friends because we have mutual likes," Spencer argued, feeling that she was being interrogated.
"I am not against your friendship and I am sorry if I give you that impression; I was just surprised that Mona didn't hold a grudge against you because of Alison," Peter said, attempting to calm down his daughter.
"I think she recognized what Alison had done to me and considers me a kindred spirit. Plus, Alison has made her life Hell all these years and deserves a friend," stated the teen and her father understood.
"Well I was still surprised; even more when Leona just accepted you. That woman came to complain once to your mother and I about you," informed her father and that caught Spencer by surprise since Mona never mentioned it.
"Really?" Spencer asked, directing her full attention at her father.
"Yeah; she was angry that you and your friends were letting Alison have her way in bullying her daughter. There was a shouting match between her and your mother," informed Peter, eyeing to see if his wife was still upstairs; giving Spencer the impression that she wasn't supposed to know about this.
"I can understand; Mona's mother really tries to look after her daughter," Spencer said and her father nodded in agreement. It was nice to have parents that truly cared about their offspring; even her parents to some degree.
"So are you just going to hang out at Mona's house for the day?" asked her father, dropping the present subject.
"Until we need to go; I figured I can be Mona's ride for once," Spencer answered and her father laughed at the little joke.
"Well have good day and I will see you later," Peter said and Spencer said goodbye and headed out the back door after grabbing the keys.
Getting into her car, Spencer looked over at Alison's house and noticed some noise coming from the blonde's bedroom window. Most likely Alison was already up and talking about her date to the other girls; everyone always had to drop what they were doing in order to listen to Alison. Spencer especially had hated that part when she had still been a part of the group since the blond always woke her up early when she wanted to sleep in. In a sense, there was some advantage now in being separated from the former leader; she had more of her life to herself without being at someone's beck and call.
While she was tempted to listen in on the conversation, Spencer was more curious about what Mona had found out.
Pulling out of her driveway, Spencer made her way to The Brew in no time due to the lack of traffic. Since it was the weekend, more people stayed home thus the streets were clear of activity. After easily finding a parking spot, Spencer got out of her car and headed inside the coffee place; finding only a short line of customers. Since she knew exactly what Mona liked when it came to her choice of caffeine and sweets, Spencer was easily able to get what her friend what she wanted. With a cup holder and bag full of treats in hand, the teen headed back to her car to continue her trek to her friend's house.
Mona's car was in the driveway when Spencer arrived and she parked right in front of the house since there was space. Getting out of the vehicle, Spencer walked up to the door with the coffee and pastries in hand with her bag hung on her right shoulder. Since she couldn't exactly knock without putting something down, Spencer used her foot to kick the door a few times as a way to knock on the door; making her presence known. After a minute, she heard someone making their way to the door.
When Mona opened the door, she looked a bit of a mess with her hair unkept and dark circles under her eyes. Since it appeared that Spencer might have woken her friend up, Spencer held up the coffee and treats with a smile; prompting the shorter teen to let her friend inside. Spencer followed her friend upstairs as Mona had taken her drink and was sipping it as they walked. The shorter girl had yet to say a word and Spencer concluded that Mona was still waking up, not totally coherent yet.
Once they were in her room, Mona collapsed onto her bed and sat there in silence while she sipped her drink. Spencer looked around the room, finding it clean as usual; Mona was a clean freak so that wasn't a surprise. The one thing she did notice was that her friend had a few new dolls; sitting on her vanity and staring at her. It seemed that Mona had hit the doll shop in Brookhaven after all and brought home some souvenirs.
The dolls looked to be quite old and hand crafted which her friend always went for. These new ones, like the rest in the room, were made of clay and dressed in old Victorian garb of different colors. The eyes were painted but seem to follow you no matter where you were which always made Spencer feel uneasy. The three that were arranged in a sitting position as if they were children being dressed up for the day; which Mona treated her dolls as.
To say they were creepy was putting it lightly.
"That tastes good," Mona said, saying her first words since Spencer had arrived.
"Sorry to wake you up so early; I assumed that you would have been up already," Spencer apologized. She sat down at the foot of her friend's bed and sipped her own coffee with the treats in between them.
"It's fine; I suppose after what I said last night, you would be over first thing," stated her friend as she lay back against the headboard.
"Yeah; saying that Alison killed Bethany is a pretty big thing to announce. Do you have any proof that she did?" Spencer asked as she stared at her friend.
"More speculation than anything else I'll admit and I don't have proof just yet, but I really do believe that Alison might have gotten rid of Bethany," Mona said and by her tone, Spencer saw that her friend believed it.
"Why? Alison is a bitch but even I don't think she is capable of murder," Spencer stated, shaking her head.
"Don't be so sure about that; Alison once pushed a girl down the stairs at a frat party because she was flirting with Ian last Halloween," informed the shorter teen.
"I remember being at that party but don't remember that happening," said the taller teen, trying to remember back to that particular incident. There had been a disturbance at that party and Alison had rushed them out pretty quickly so they never found out what had happened.
"Alison got Cece Drake, who had been dating Jason at the time, kicked out of school because of that incident. Trust me, Alison is more than capable of murder," Mona stated and her friend could see the conviction on her face when it was said.
"But why would she kill this Bethany?" Spencer inquired, not understanding why her former friend would go that far.
"Because Jessica was befriending Bethany since she was having an affair with her father," Mona revealed and Spencer's eyes widened and her jaw dropped in shock.
"Alison's mother was having an affair?" Spencer asked in disbelief.
"Yeah; Bethany's father was on the Board at Radley along with Jessica DiLaurentis and for some reason, Jessica started treating Bethany as her own daughter," explained the teen as she drank more of her coffee and munched on a pastry.
"I could see why Alison might get mad since it's pretty easy to make her jealous; but why do you think Alison killed her and where did you get this information from," Spencer inquired.
"Bethany's grandmother, on her mother's side, told me about it; she owns the doll shop in Brookhaven. While she didn't say anything about Alison, she told me everything about the affair and what Alison's mother was doing with her granddaughter. Apparently, Alison and Bethany fought a few times when Bethany was allowed out and I was given a note from Alison to Bethany luring her to Rosewood," Mona told Spencer as they sat on the bed; by her tone, Mona was getting excited about sharing the information.
"So you think Bethany escaped Radley, went to Rosewood, and was killed by Alison?" Spencer concluded.
"I think so; Bethany has not been seen and her grandmother believes that she is dead because they were very close; she always made sure to let her grandmother know that she was okay. Bethany's father also ended his affair with Jessica shortly after his daughter's disappearance and has been trying to get the police to investigate the DiLaurentis Family for a while," Mona said and Spencer could just shake her head.
"I am amazed that we haven't heard about this," Spencer stated, finding it hard to believe since everyone talked about everything in Rosewood.
"Money can buy a lot of silence and that family has a lot of it," Mona said and Spencer could believe that.
"So when do you believe Alison killed Bethany?" asked the taller teen to her friend.
"It had to have been while we were both away because I would not have missed that when I was watching her. Maybe, Alison thought Bethany was A and killed her or felt threatened because she was a risk to Alison's perfect life," the shorter girl speculated and she finished her coffee as well as her pastry.
"It makes sense; but we have nothing to prove it with as well as even a body to tie to Alison," Spencer argued.
"Which is why we need to use this when we go after Alison; we get the blond bitch to lead us to the evidence," Mona countered with an evil smile.
"So we pretend to know everything while we get her to give us what we need to destroy her," said the teen, grasping her friend's plan and approving.
"Exactly; we get Alison to give us the rope to hang her with," said Mona, using an analogy to make her point.
"I like it; when do you want to start," inquired the taller teen.
"We'll begin planning tomorrow since we will be busy tonight. So we'll be eating with Melissa?" Mona asked with her frown clearly evident.
"Yeah; she and Wren will be meeting us at the club," Spencer answered, understanding her friend's feelings on the matter.
"It's okay; I will manage," Mona stated and she meant it; though she would have to mentally prepare herself for the dinner.
"Are you sure? We can always pretend you are sick," her friend suggested, presenting the opportunity to back out.
"It will be fine; I can handle Melissa. I just need to pick out a dress for tonight," Mona said as she got up from her bed and went to the closet. Opening it up, her and Spencer looked through the many dresses that she had.
"Some of these look really stylish; I am surprised that you never wear them at school," Spencer said as she held a fluffy pink dress that would have shown some cleavage.
"I plan to wear them once Alison is gone; the last time I tried to wear something like this, the bitch made me regret it," Mona stated bitterly.
"Well I think you should wear at least one of them just to stick it to her; these are far better than the over the top things she wears," stated the taller teen and Mona just shrugged her shoulders.
They spent about an hour looking through Mona's closet for something to wear at the club; finally deciding on something that showed Mona's figure but still conservative enough not to make it flashy. It was blue and loose that went all the way to her knees. The chest area was still covered but still made a slight impression though not like what Alison usually wore. It was a nice change of pace from what the teen usually wore when she was out.
After the dress was picked, Mona showered and readied herself while Spencer went over her friend's notes from her field trip to Brookhaven. There was quite a bit to read and the teen was amazed that Mona had found out so much in a short amount of time. It seemed that Jessica's affair was quite detailed as well as the connection of her former friend in regards to Bethany and her disappearance. Spencer still had a hard time believing that Alison could have killed someone but Mona seemed adamant.
Then again, Mona had been watching Alison for a lot longer and did know things that Spencer never knew about the blond.
The rest of the day was spent making plans as well as a schedule on future surveillance missions when it came to Alison. The plan was to also safeguard a possible attempt by the rest of the blonde's posse in case they tried to intervene. The plan was to use blackmail to dissuade certain members of the group like Aria and Hanna. Though they didn't want to hurt them directly, Spencer and Mona wanted to make sure that they would stay out of their attacks on Alison in order to free them from her grasp.
Once they neared the time they were supposed to meet Spencer's parents, Mona got dressed and did her makeup. Once she was ready, Spencer drove them back to her house so that she could get dressed as well. Before they had left, Mona packed a small overnight bag for the evening and let her mother know what was going on. Once she had received her mother's blessing, Mona joined Spencer in the car once she had locked up, and they left.
Once they had arrived, there was no sign of Spencer's parents and the teens figured that they would be back soon. With the little time she had, Spencer rushed upstairs to get ready while Mona waited downstairs. To keep herself entertained, Mona surfed social media and heard the front door open. Figuring that it was Spencer's parents arriving home, Mona put her phone away to greet them when she suddenly froze.
It was Melissa and she was alone.
