A/N: I'm actually doing a lot of research on Stanford and premed education to make this as believable as I can. I'm going to London for a few days now so I won't be able to post this when I usually do so I decided to do it a little earlier.
The promo for 10x23 said that Callie receives devastating news and I don't know how many terrible news this woman can get. She was already cheated on, divorced, she almost lost her life and her daughter almost died. Her best friend is dead. She was already sued. I'm assuming it either has to be about her parents/sister or her health.
Also my hopes are that in the show they maybe use Arizona's egg so we could get our little dimpled blonde blue eyed baby that we've been waiting for since Callie got pregnant with Sofia.
Time really flew by in university. All Callie and Arizona did were take classes have quick dinners, study and sleep. It was exhausting but they were doing great so far so the effort was paying off.
"Hey you okay?" Callie asked. It was Thursday and they were having lunch at a restaurant at the campus. Arizona was looking a little paler than usually but nothing too extraordinary beside the quietness.
Arizona checked her watch. "I'm good but can you take extra notes tomorrow? I'm gonna be sick."
Callie snorted. "Why would you be sick? And I don't think you can predict things like that." Arizona sent her a look that said I can. "Okay fine if I'll take extra notes and make sure to write nicely so your dumb brain will be able to read it," she replied sarcastically.
Arizona rolled her eyes. "You'll see," she said. "We should head back. I have comparative medicine in fifteen minutes."
"And I am free to go back to the dorm but I do have to write an assignment on immunology," Callie said. Being in the pre medical program they had the chance to focus on mostly medical things which made them help prepare for medical school later on.
Arizona placed a kiss on Callie's lip. "I'll see you later than," she said and made her way towards the school while Callie went in the other direction to the dorms. She arrived just in time. She sat down next to April, also the only free chair left, and grabbed a pen and a notebook. She quickly found out that the professor spoke quickly. "Hi," she said to April for the sake of being polite.
"Hey," April replied and shot her a smile. That's the most of communicating they managed during lessons.
Arizona wanted to glare at her professor but she had no time. She was listening and writing down details at the same time. She did have some time to look around the classroom though. Some students were typing on computers, some weren't doing anything and there was a guy in the back that was asleep. Arizona smiled to herself. She and Callie were lucky to get in this program. Not many got accepted in Stanford and Arizona wasn't about to let this opportunity pass. Nearing the end of her last lesson she started feeling a light ache forming in her head. She was right. She was going to be sick tomorrow. Then the class was dismissed and Arizona was finished. Thursdays were usually the less busiest day in the week. She grabbed her stuff and started heading towards the dorm. She walked in the dorm and put down her backpack. Callie was sitting on her side bed with laptop on her legs and black reading glasses on her face. "You look ridiculously adorable in these glasses," she said and kicked her shoes off before laying next to Callie. She managed to convince Callie to put their beds together so now they had one big bed.
"I hope you're not here to distract me because I really do need to finish this," Callie said and kissed Arizona's forehead before focusing back on the words she was typing down. She flipped a page in her students book and continued writing.
Arizona sighed. "Nah. I'll probably just take a nap." She leaned against Callie's shoulder and watched her type for a few minutes. Arizona moved her head and looked at Callie's concentrated face. "You're really beautiful," she said with a dimpled smile.
Callie couldn't help but smile. "And so are you," she said and removed her glasses.
"You can keep writing. I don't want to interrupt you," Arizona said quickly as she watched Callie close her laptop lid.
"It's fine Arizona. I was finished anyway," Callie replied and put the laptop on the floor. She would move it on the desk later. "So how's your sickness coming along?" she teased. Arizona looked nothing less than fine.
Arizona rolled her eyes. "You'll see tomorrow."
"If you say so chica," Callie teased. "Wanna watch a movie?"
"No," Arizona said quietly and snuggled deeper into her girlfriend's warm body. The headache was starting to get bigger and she really wanted to fall asleep before she would be feeling it throb in her head.
Callie was confused because normally Arizona was the first to say yes to a movie but she didn't push it. "Okay. Then I'm going to nap with you," she said softly and got more comfortable. She turned on her side and pulled Arizona close as possible to her body. She loved being the big spoon and Arizona loved being spooned. "I love you," she said gently.
"Love you," Arizona murmured back, already half asleep.
The next morning Callie was up first because she started classes earlier than Arizona. She left her sleeping girlfriend asleep and headed towards the school. She loved the morning walk with the air still fresh. November was nearing and so was Arizona's birthday and Callie still had no idea what to do for her girlfriend. She had so many ideas but not nearly enough time as she would want. Her first lesson flew by quickly as the class just discussed about the reports on immunity that they had to do. She had another class before lunch and normally she received a text message from Arizona around this time but nothing. Thinking Arizona was just being in a rush she tried not to worry and focused on the professor.
Callie sat down at her usual lunch table in the dining hall. Even though Arizona's first class started an hour after Callie's they still had lunch at the same time. Callie checked her phone again. She sighed. "Has anyone seen Arizona?" she asked April who was in the same morning classes as Arizona.
"No, sorry," she replied. "She hasn't been in class."
"That's weird," Callie mumbled under her breath. She sent a message to Arizona to call her as soon as possible but got no reply. It was getting her worried but she couldn't just leave school in the middle of the day. Fridays were busy and Callie had classes till 4 pm which made her nervous. She wanted to know what's wrong.
Callie sat through a couple of more classes and tried to pay attention. But worry was filling her mind and she still had no missed calls or unread messages on her phone. She rubbed her forehead.
"Mrs. Torres," her professor said as he caught her looking at her phone. "Have something else on your mind?"
Callie quickly shook her head. "No, sir," she replied politely. She started writing down the things that were written on the power point presentation. Maybe Arizona was right when she said she would be sick. Or she was just playing a sick joke with Callie. Either way it was making Callie's heart tighten in her chest thinking about the worst possible things. Somehow Callie managed to stay the whole day and when she noticed the clock slowly approaching the 4 pm time her hands grew shakier. The class was dismissed and she felt almost frozen in her seat. But slowly she gathered her things and left the building. She called Arizona one more time as she was approaching the dorms. No answer. She inhaled sharply when she was in front of the dorm. She turned the doorknob and entered. The room was dark. Really dark. And Callie couldn't tell if Arizona was there or not. "Arizona?" she called out as she dropped her backpack on the floor. She reached for the light.
"No, please don't," came a pained reply.
Callie panicked and turned the lights on thinking something bad has happened to Arizona. But the blonde was simply laying in her bed with covers up to her neck. "Honey," she said gently as she sat down on the bed. "What's wrong?" She placed her hand on Arizona's forehead.
"I don't feel good," Arizona whined. Her head was throbbing so badly that she wanted to cry. Her nose was runny. Her throat sore as never before. And her stomach was turning just at the thought of food. "But I was right," she whispered and smiled a little. Her eyes were closed from the bright light.
Callie pressed a gentle kiss against her temple. "Do you want anything? I can run to the store and pick you a chicken soup."
"No. Just stay here."
Callie turned on the little night light they bought together and stood up to turn the bright light off. She grabbed a medical thermometer she took from the home. "Open your mouth," she ordered and put it in Arizona's mouth. "Keep it under your tongue." She took a small towel from the closet and went in the community bathroom. This was her least favorite part of living in a dorm. You were never alone in the bathroom. She wet the towel with cold water and returned in the dorm. Arizona was holding on the thermometer so it stayed under her tongue. "This might be called," she said quietly and placed it on the blonde's forehead.
Arizona flinched at first but then relaxed. It was slightly making her feel better. The thermometer beeped and she took it out of her mouth. "No, this actually helps," she admitted. "You're good at taking care of me." She opened her eyes to look at Callie and smiled lazily at her.
"Dork," Callie replied with a smile. She checked the number on the thermometer and frowned. "100,9. That's pretty bad Arizona," she said worriedly. Now it was not a good time to get sick.
"It's not that bad," Arizona argued. But honestly her fever was never this high before. She could feel Callie's glare on her. "Okay it might be bad," she said but choked a little and started coughing. She immediately sat up and Callie rubbed her back to soothe her.
Callie felt bad mostly because she didn't know what to do. If they were back home she would make her a home made soup and run her a hot bath but here she couldn't do either. So she sat down next to Arizona. "I'm sorry you're not feeling well," she apologized lamely.
"It's not like you got me sick," Arizona replied, her voice deeper and raspier than usually from the coughing. She looked at Callie's eyes and found them soft and filled with worry. "I would love to kiss you right now but my stomach's arguing with that."
Callie smiled and kissed the pale cheek. "That's okay." She picked up her laptop and put it on the window sill that was on the inside part of the dorm. She put on one of Arizona's favorite seasons of Big Bang Theory and laid next to Arizona. "Will this be okay?"
Arizona nodded. "You're the best," she replied.
Callie remembered something and stood up making Arizona whine. She was just getting comfortable. "I'm sorry, I just remembered that I should give you a pill so your fever will drop and if your throat is sore it will help too." She grabbed the pill along with Arizona's favorite drink which was ironically AriZona half iced tea and half lemonade drink. She opened the can and passed it to Arizona. "Have you eaten anything at all?"
Arizona shamefully shakes her head. "I wasn't really hungry. And beside I slept most of the time." She took the pill and focused on the episode that was playing on Callie's laptop. She giggled at something ridiculous Sheldon said.
"I'm gonna grab you something to eat," Callie said. "And until then I want you to stay here under cover and watch the show."
Arizona sighed. "Okay. But kiss me first." She didn't want to risk not getting a kiss in case she might actually puke later. Callie leaned down and softly pecked her lips. And with that Callie was gone leaving Arizona alone again. But with the cold towel on her forehead and her favorite tv show playing she felt a little better. Arizona's phone rang and this time she picked it up. She saw many missed phone calls and messages from Callie and it made her feel guilty. "Hello?" she answered.
"Woah you sound like crap," came the reply followed by a chuckle.
Arizona smiled. "Hey Tim." She hasn't heard from him since he left before she went to college. "I got sick," Arizona said. "But Callie's taking care of me so I should be good as new on Monday," she said without thinking. It's not like she and Callie were hiding their relationship. They just haven't told their families yet.
"I'm sure you will," Tim replied in a teasing tone. "So when are you going to tell me that you're dating your teen crush?"
Arizona cleared her throat and couched slightly. "I'm not. We're not," she argued lamely. There was nothing but silence over the phone. "Okay fine. But you can't tell mom and dad yet. I really like this. And she's great Tim. And so sweet."
Tim cringed. "And you got laid. Ew."
"It might have happened but it's none of your business," Arizona snaps at her older brother.
"Sorry," Tim said honestly. "I think it's great really. I just want you happy. Listen I'm only calling to see how you're doing in college. I missed you leaving and we've been really busy lately. Military never sleeps," he said.
Arizona sighed. She could never be mad at her brother. Not when he was miles away and risking his life for the country. "Well so far it's been great. Busy but we're managing. Even made a few friends." She heard some loud noises and the shattering in the back which usually meant Tim had to go. "Stay safe," she said.
"Always," he replied. This was their routine. "I love you. And say hi to your girlfriend." And he hung up.
Arizona held on the phone a little longer. Timothy's time away was getting longer and his phone calls shorter. His returns home weren't as often as they used to be as well. The pill was starting to kick in and Arizona was fighting sleep. She wanted Callie to be back before she would fall asleep again. She focused on the laptop screen even if her headache wasn't pleased with the brightness.
And soon enough the door started opening. "Sorry it took me a while. I got you chicken soup. And hot tea. And also ice cream for the throat but you will not eat all this at the same time," she rambled as she placed everything down. Arizona was looking at her but her blue eyes were unfocused. "You feeling any better?" she asked and bent down beside the bed.
"I did. But now I don't. I don't know," Arizona said and tried to think of something else beside the food coming up her throat.
Callie lifted the now no longer cold wet towel to check on Arizona's temperature. She passed her the thermometer. "Put it in your mouth." She picked up the cup of hot tea. "After you're done drink this." She took the towel and went in the bathroom to get it wet again. She returned in the bedroom and laid down next to Arizona. She wanted to hold her and make her feel better. She picked up the thermometer. The fever hasn't gone down at all. "Good thing it's weekend huh?"
"But I was gonna take you on a date," Arizona said and still managed to have a spark in her eyes as she said it.
Callie grinned. "Oh you did huh? And what would we do?"
"There's this new movie playing in the theater and I had this whole plan to woo you. And then we would go on a greasy hamburger and fries but now we can't." She pouted.
"Then we can do it next week. I promise I'll be your willing date," she said and laughed at Arizona's attempt to punch her shoulder. "Just get better first okay?" She sat up and pulled Arizona against her chest so the blonde didn't have to struggle with sitting up and passed her the cup of hot tea.
Arizona wrinkled her nose. "I can smell it's chamomile tea. I hate it."
"But it's gonna soothe your throat and it will make your stomach feel better. I promise." Arizona sighed but didn't dare to make a sip. "Have I ever broken a promise?"
"No," Arizona mumbled and held her nose with her hand, which wasn't really necessary because if was full anyway, as she took a sip. She hated to admit it but the hot tea actually felt nice as it burned down her aching throat. She sighed as Callie wrapped her arms around her waist. "You're the best girlfriend ever," she said and took another sip of her tea. She wasn't very long with her first girlfriend to see if she would actually take care of her if she got sick but Joanne never got close to her when she was sick.
Callie smiled. "Well you're worth taking care of. Just don't puke on me."
"I won't," Arizona replied. Now that tea was warming up her stomach she didn't feel as nauseous. "Promise you'll still take care of me when I'll be old and ugly?" Arizona froze after she said that. She didn't really mean to. Her and Callie have only been together for 4 months and not even their parents knew.
Callie didn't answer anything for a little while and she could tell Arizona was starting to fidget. "Promise," she said gently. "But you'll always be beautiful to me."
"You have to say," Arizona said and moved her head to the side so she could look at Callie.
Callie smiled. "Are you feeling any better?" she asked as she ran a finger over Arizona's cheek. She didn't look as pale. "You look a little better."
"I think the tea is helping," Arizona replied. "Kiss me," she ordered and smiled when Callie immediately obeyed and leaned down. Their lips gently touched and while Arizona tried to deepen the kiss Callie was keeping it soft and sweet as possible.
"As much as I like kissing you you're sick," Callie said as she pulled away. Arizona huffed but leaned back against her. "Wanna watch something else instead?" She had a bunch of Disney movies and TV shows on her laptop mostly because Arizona could never make up her mind on just one thing.
"No, but I do want that ice cream now," she said with a bright smile.
Callie rolled her eyes but crawled out of the bed and grabbed the ice cream along with two plastic spoons. "You don't mind sharing do you?" Her girlfriend could get very upset when it came to sharing food so she asked just for her own safety.
"Not with you," Arizona replied cheekily.
"For someone with a insanely high fever and the voice of a dying whale you still sound incredibly chipper and managing to be flirty," Callie teased and moved Arizona so she could sit down the way she was before. She passed Arizona the ice cream tub. Arizona eagerly duh in and Callie helped her with a few spoons.
"So what did you do today?" Arizona asked curiously. "I didn't miss too much did I?"
Callie shook her head. "Nothing much. I wrote nicely by the way. And I might have got caught looking at my phone," she admitted. Arizona gaped at her and before she could say something Callie already started explaining. "But it was only because I was really worried. You never returned a call or a message and I thought something bad has happened to you."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry you," Arizona said honestly. She shoved her own spoon of ice cream in Callie's mouth as a sign of peace. Callie snorted but managed to keep the ice cream in her mouth. Arizona smiled and then put another spoon in her own mouth. There was nothing that a little ice cream, corny TV show and her girlfriend couldn't fix.
