"Nick?" I blinked, and my hand came into focus. I folded my fingers over the long spiraled white scar, silently cursing Neal for everything it was worth. Johnny…it might not be the exact terms…but I have to put an end to this. I have to face him. Billy won't get away with another murder.

ROSE'S POV

It didn't take a genius to figure out Nick was thinking back to the moment he received the scars on his hands. We watched him look at his hands and shake his head, closing his fist, but then again, Joe wasn't a genius like I was. No, not a smart person, but a 'Nick genius.' I knew a lot about his past and I also knew that he was hiding things that he hasn't even told Johnny. Things that would probably never be told. He was turned away form us but I knew that there would be either fire or sorrow in his too intense eyes and I knew he wasn't turned from us to hide those feelings. He was positioned like this so he didn't have to see us. So he could fool himself into thinking he was alone. And I am going to make sure he is never alone.

"Nick, Joe, your parent's will be here soon." I told them, ignoring how my voice echoed in the empty hall.

"They are not my parents." Nick whispered but I was sure Joe couldn't catch the words with all of the echoing sounds from the hallways lining the room. But I turned to Joe and I saw he was looking at Nick, something more than just typical sadness reflecting in his eyes. So he had heard.

"Yeah, you're right. We should get back to the room." Joe said after a moment to compose himself. Nick sighed and turned back to us, picking up his guitar and I smiled as my hands beat his to Mr. Teddy-Pants, who was sitting on the top of the piano. He glared at me but I only stuck out my tongue. Honestly, didn't he care what people would think of him when they saw a seventeen year old carrying around a beat up old teddy bear? Parents would start checking to make sure their own kids had theirs, making sure Nick hadn't stolen it or something. But sometimes, he did look like the kind of guy who would.

Nick wordlessly led us back to his room and all the while, I kept my free hand on Joe's forearm, not looking at him, but trying to comfort him. It was obvious, to me, that Nick's words had hurt him. He wanted Nick to consider them as family; he wanted Nick to stay and be his brother. And it was killing him that Nick seemed to want nothing to do with this family, just as all of the other families before Joe's. Well they both needed to wake up and smell the roses. I need think of another flower that works with that phrase.

Joe needs to wake up and see that Nick is hurting and that he has had a terrible past filled with soul wrenching, heart killing, indescribable pain. He needs to give Nick more than two days to open up and even think about trusting them. He needs to abide to Nick's wishes and be patient enough to allow Nick to let him in, instead of forcing him to open up. Instead of trying to create instant bonds.

And Nick…Nick needs to get his head out of his ass and see that not every family in this world wants to hurt him. Sure, only one before hasn't, but this family hasn't even tried to lay a finger on him! By now, he would have been slapped, stolen from, or kicked out by any of the other families he has been with! He needs to open his hate blinded eyes to see the good in this family and then he needs to face his fear. He needs to open up, talk about what he so desperately wants to forget, and then receive the love and comfort I know he is longing for. I am only one person Nick; I can't help you like you want me too. But they can.

I think I need to have a word with both of them later. Nick trusts me and Joe knows that I am close to Nick so therefore, I know him better. So they will listen. I only hope they will follow through.

"So Nick, are you ok with meeting two very close friends of mine and Kevin's? Macy and Stella?" Joe hesitantly asked as Nick scowled, his face turned towards the window. He wasn't angry at the question, but at the fact Joe was talking to him when he needed to think, and that he would have to answer this question. He shrugged slightly, the look on his face not changing at all. I nudged him and glared at him, not even able to guess what he was thinking right now. And I jumped when he glared right back. What was his problem?

"What is your problem?" I hissed, poking him in the side. His glare remained, only getting worse by the second. His look clearly said "Fuck off," but I wasn't going. I was stubborn and persistent and Nick hated that. "No, I won't fuck off Nicholas." He flinched visibly at the use of his full name, trying to cover the observable shiver that had run down his spine. But I wasn't going to mess around and he knew it. "So why don't you acting mature and tell me what the hell is wrong with you?" I was only being stern out of love.

I watched the anger in Nick's eyes move over and let in fear, but as soon as he realized that he was afraid, the look was gone from his eyes. He only shook his head and scoffed, standing and walking away from me and the bed, and into the farthest corner of them room. Way be to mature Nicholas.

"Do you really want to deal with whatever the hell you are dealing alone?" I whispered, making my voice as cold as I could without making the teen have a heart attack. As predicted, he didn't answer, only continued to glare out the window. "Fine then. I won't help you this is issue." I stood, the end clear in my voice. Nick didn't even move. I walked over to Joe and hugged him. "Bye Joe. Call me when Nick decideds to act his age." And then I slipped my number into his shirt pocket before stomping out of the room, not finding it in me to waltz out.

Honestly, I loved Nick but I just can't take this anymore. I can't stand seeing him shut himself out and keep everything in. I can't stand to look him in the eyes anymore because of all the held back broken deadness I see lingering in the deep layer of his soul. And I can't even stand the fact that he is oblivious to the fact the he is killing himself! He needs to let someone other than me in and until he did, I was going to do what he 'wanted.' I was going to leave him alone. Please, God, if you're real, don't let this be a mistake.

NICK'S POV

I know I was being stupid and childish but I was done with bonds and friendships. I won't need them after tonight because the dead can't exactly interact when they are underground, locked up in a coffin. And you know, even if God wasn't real and all I got was an eternity of nothingness, I would be happy. It would be better than putting up with this shit. Better than facing and reliving everything I was running away from.

"Joe! Nick! We are here!" Oh just great. Red is here and chipper and now I have to act…wait, no I don't. I don't even have to speak. I watched Red hug Joe and smile at me, the want to hug me in her eyes. But I crushed that want with a glare. Sorry Red, its way better for the both of us this way. I didn't want to be touched and this way, you won't make another bond that will shatter in the morning when you watch the news. Her smile faltered and Joe shrugged as she sent him a questioning look. "Ok then Nick, let's get you out of here and back home."

It's not my home.

But I followed her, grabbing my teddy bear that Rose had earlier dropped on the bed upon arrival to the room. Johnny's old guitar was still on my back and Joe had grabbed everything else, so I guess I was good. As expected, the check out was long and dull and involved Joe trying to read my face and me subtly flipping him off to get him to stop. But it didn't. Yay me. So I just settled with going back to my old routine, closing off until there was nothing in the world around you, until it all just melted away into your thoughts. Or in this case, the lack there of. Because this was a time when I just want to go back to a meaningless and thoughtless task to forget about everything, like throwing my robber bouncy ball or screaming into a pillow perhaps.

Red finally came back to where we were sitting and we stood to go to the car. The carried back to the Lucas house seemed to be slower than it should have been as the silence stretched on, now of us bothering to attempt to break it. I guess Red at least knew a lost cause when she saw one. And trust me, I was a lost cause for her.

Wait a minute…if I was going to confront Billy, I needed to know a few things. And for that…oh how I hate this.

"Joe, can I use your phone?" I asked as he sent a text and closed it. He looked at me oddly but tossed it in my lap. I typed in the number quickly and quickly sent an SOS text before deleting from his inbox and tossing it back. He knew not to send a reply. "Thanks." I muttered, hating that word coming out of my mouth. Joe nodded and I resumed my deadpan stare out the wall.

We got back to the house and he was on the doorstep just as I knew he would be. I jumped out of the car and walked over to meet him, the reason for the urgency showing clearly in my eyes. He nodded once and Red eyed him up and down before unlocking the door. Joe shook his hand, confusion evident in his eyes. And that confusion would never be answered.

JOE'S POV

"Fang? Why are you here?" Joe asked, looking over to Red as she looked back at us. Fang smirked and looked to Nick briefly, who honestly looked like he didn't have a single care in the world. But I knew he had a plan. Why else would he bring Fang here?

"Joe!" I spun around as Nick jumped and Fang lowered his sunglasses as Stella's voice cut through the rather awkward silence.

"Stella! Macy!" I greeted, pulling them close and hugging them tightly. Stella beamed and Nick over my shoulder and Macy kept looking between Fang and Nick.

"You must be Nick."

"And you're Fang from VIP!" Macy squealed and both of the two rolled their eyes, but only one smiled and held out his hand.

"Yes, and Yes. Stella, Macy," I walked over to them clapped Nick on the shoulder, ignoring the glare he sent me. "This is Nick." They nodded, not put off by his lack of interest in them.

"Nice to meet you Nick." Macy said, her permanent smile growing a tooth or two. Nick looked to her and nodded once, his hard expression not shifting at all. But Macy only smiled and nudged Stella.

"Very nice Nick." She turned to me and started talking about shopping and a new really cute boy and I had to stop this now because if anyone was walking by, they might get the wrong idea about me. But there was no stopping Stella. So I just following Nick and Fang as they walked to the back of the house, and sat in the grass. Nick turned his gaze to me and frowned.

"Can we help you?" He asked rudely and Stella stopped in mid-word.

"You told me he didn't talk." Nick stiffened and everything about him suddenly turned cold and mean. Maybe I shouldn't have told Stella that. But it was too late now.

"Stella!" Macy reprieved and Nick looked up to her, curious. "And you too Joe! Honestly! You both have no sense! You both know what its like to have people talking about you behind your back!" I felt my cheeks heat up at that and Stella ducked her head. We were an item before we were even together, so yes, we knew what it was like and hated it. "I am ashamed of you both!" She stomped her foot and huffed, crossing her arms and I watched the two boys. One of them ducked his head, a huge smirk on his face and the other just starred at Macy like she was insane. And surprisingly, Nick was the one smirking.

"Say you are sorry!" She roared and Nick chuckled, Fang still starring at her in shock.

"Sorry Nick." We both chorused and Stella went red again as she realized Nick was laughing at her and my situation.

Macy rolled her eyes and looked down at Nick. "How did you do that?" Nick asked, gesturing to Stella and me. Macy laughed and plopped down next to him

"I trained them well." Fang finally closed his mouth, not taking his eyes off the petite brunette.

"Rose will kill you." Nick told him, his laughter turning into a very serious frown and Fang lowered his gaze to the grass.

"I know…I know." He sighed, shaking out his head. "But she doesn't know I am looking…" He paused looking at the look on Nick's face. "You wouldn't…"

"Remember what I said to you when I found out you were dating her?" Fang thought back but he didn't get the answer quick enough. "I told you that if you ever hurt her or even think about another girl when you are with her…" Fang's eyes widened and he bolted to his feet, hands flying up as he stepped back from Nick.

"I remember now!"Nick smirked, but it was cold. The back door opened and Kevin came out, clapping me on the back and smiling to me in greeting and as a welcome home thing. Nick stood and whispered something into Fang's ear and he nodded instantly.

"Hey Nick…F-fang." Always the fan boy, huh Kevin? They both nodded and then walked away from the house and down the sidewalk, Macy following them without any objection.

"That was…"

"Weird." Stella finished for me and I nodded. But at least someone I trusted was with Nick.

MACY'S POV

I don't know why they didn't say anything about me coming with them. I fell into step between them, not trying to break the silence. We walked into the park a few minutes from the house of JONAS and immediately, they went to the very back of the field, where really no one could see us.

"So Macy," Fang asked as he and Nick both took off their jackets. "You know how to fight?
