Eight Weeks Later
During the past several weeks since Rodimus' captivity, the young Prime's confidence had slowly begun to rebuild itself and more. While he returned to his usual attitude of caution and friendliness while in the base, he was also becoming quite the fighter on the battlefield and slowly developing an attitude of cockiness in order to hide the fact that he was still hurting deep inside his spark.
And while he still felt that he wasn't quite ready to lead the Autobots, Optimus finally convinced him to at least try with Optimus and Prowl guiding him every step of the way. They would kindly point out his mistakes with Optimus telling him to trust his spark and his instincts in decisions he had to come into contact with and have the confidence to stick by them.
After the Battle on Mars, Springer had suffered from a ruptured spark chamber, but he had made a rapid recovery. He and Rodimus made amends to each other and Rodimus asked him if he would like to join in the racing games he took part in with Bumblebee, Sideswipe and Arcee without the knowledge of Optimus or Prowl. Springer had been reluctant at first but he agreed and they always had the time of their lives once a week.
Springer had proved to be an interesting opponent for Rodimus. Unlike the slow Bumblebee or Sideswipe, or the lithe Arcee, Springer's unusual land-based vehicle form – a 2011 Ford Interceptor – was remarkably fast enough to be able to keep up with Rodimus, being able to stay nose to nose with him and Arcee right up until the finishing line.
It had been there that Rodimus and Springer had become less aggressive and began a friendly rivalry between the two. Although Springer was not as hostile around Rodimus whenever he spent time with Arcee like he used to be, he never hesitated to speak his processor to either of them if things went a little bit too far. Arcee admitted to Rodimus that it was just his way of showing he cared, even if Springer wouldn't say so.
Ever since Rodimus had returned to the Autobots and had fought Megatron one-on-one on Mars, he had finally been accepted into the ranks with them all respectfully calling him "Prime", "Sir", or even "Rodimus Prime". But they all still stopped to salute Optimus as well whenever he walked by them. The former Autobot commander was now able to fight alongside the Autobots once again in his new suit of armour: the Vertex Armour.
But a new obstacle lay in the Autobots' path and that was to find a suitable piece of land for Autobot City.
After numerous discussions with their ambassador – John Keller – with regards to this new project, a call was going to be given on this very day in order to discuss about the Autobots' request.
Rodimus paced nervously around in the Briefing Room as Optimus entered, watching him with interest.
"Sit down, Rodimus," Optimus smiled. "Or else you're going to wear out the floor."
But the young Prime ignored him, continuing his uneasy moving. His antennas twitched backwards and forwards with his bottled up emotions. "I can't sit until we get the call," he replied, still pacing and refusing to look his adopted father in the optic.
Optimus chuckled. "How about we have a talk then?" he asked. "Perhaps that will calm your feelings?"
Rodimus stopped his moving and sighed. "Very well," he said and sat down in the seat where Optimus used to sit while Optimus took the seat on his left.
"How can any of you be so calm?" Rodimus asked, his hands fidgeting with his digits. "I haven't recharged properly in the past two whole days."
Optimus' chest rumbled with his deep laughter. "It was the Matrix's will that this happen, Rodimus," he explained. "You were the one who approached John about it after the vision, it's just that it took a bit longer that we thought we would to find the land that we need to build a proper base on."
Rodimus released a deep vent. "Even though I am an earthspark, I would do anything for the Autobots who have saved my life, even if I have to find another planet that would house my people."
Optimus' lips curled up into a warm, fond smile. "Tracy would be proud of you."
Rodimus bowed his head, a small tear rolling down his cheek. Optimus was right, Tracy would be so proud of him for doing what he thought was the right thing to do for a race he still barely even knew. He smiled back. "She would be," he said quietly.
"Rodimus." The door suddenly opened and Prowl stepped in."John Keller is on hold and waiting."
Rodimus felt his muscle cables tense up, his doorwings held high without his knowing. It had become an ideal habit with his body doing things even he didn't know. He noticed Optimus tense up too from the way how his posture straightened up.
"We'll take the call in here, Prowl," Rodimus answered.
Prowl nodded as he closed the door and joined them by sitting on Rodimus' left.
Rodimus' trembling hand pressed the button on the table to take the call. "H-hello Mr. Keller," he greeted the human. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing fine, Rodimus," John answered warmly, obviously sensing his nervousness. "And you?"
Optimus shifted in his seat. "We're... anxious for your call."
"That's understandable, Optimus," John replied, "though I suppose I should get straight to the point. Ever since you had saved those precious human lives, Rodimus, my people have been calling non-stop to assist you all in your fight against the Decepticons to put an end to Megatron once and for all.
"It would seem that a new day has dawned for the human race. The terms and conditions have been accepted. In fact, several of the countries have wanted you to build Autobot City on their soil, but the choice is really up to you."
A smile formed on Rodimus' lips once more as the words rolled off John Keller's tongue. The word had been nothing more than a vision at first when Prima had showed it to him all those months ago. Now... it was becoming a reality, something that hadn't happened in a really long time.
No matter what happened, Rodimus was ready to embrace the future. With Cybertron destroyed and the loss of the Allspark, he would make this City their home. It was a future that no doubt would be filled with excitement, adventure, pain, sorrow, and joy.
Rodimus wondered if he will ever be the 'Chosen One' the prophecy had foretold: When darkness falls and all hope is lost, the chosen one shall rise to light our darkest hour.
But he knew that one thing was for certain: with the assistance of his friends and loved ones, and perhaps even a future sparkmate, he would achieve what he was brought here to do.
Deep within the dark regions of space, a large planet-sized entity drifted ever closer to its destination, its body glowing dimly in the starlight.
In its bowels made up of techno-organic material, a small Cybertronian with lifeless pink optics kneeled before a bright green orb, slowly glowing veins from the ceiling held the orb in place as the Cybertronian bowed its head, waiting for whatever was to come next.
The orb brightened with extreme light and a pale thin tendril snaked its way of it, latching onto the Cybertronian's forehead. Then a small orb drifted from the larger one, through the tendril and hit the Cybertronian square in the centre.
The tendril retreated back into the orb and a deep, emotionless voice whispered. "Go."
The Cybertronian stood up to its full height and bowed. "Yes, my Master," it answered in a masculine voice, though it too was as cold and as emotionless as the being it served.
He then transformed into a Cybertronian spacejet and headed through the tunnels and out of the being, vanishing from sight.
A cold voice echoed across the galaxy from the planet-like entity. "Soon."
Silence once more hung in the stillness of dark space as the being continued its long journey.
A/N: I want to congratulate all of my readers and reviewers for reaching the end of the second part to Rodimus' journey. I apologise if I left you on that tinsy cliffhanger, but you know... got to give even more plot to the story. So who do you think was the entity? I think many of you can guess where this is going and what's going to happen.
Pretty much to say, I would love to give special shout outs to people who have stuck to this story to its final chapter.
Razormus Prime & SteelBlastBee, Sunstreaker's Girl, Redconvoy, Prowls-Little-Hetalian, Shadir, newcomers NordicAutobotGirl and Bigby the Big Bad Wolf. Thank you all so much for your kind reviews and everything in between. If I missed you, then I give you kudos to the rest who have stuck with Rodimus' journey. Believe me, I couldn't have done this series of stories if it hadn't been for all of you.
As for the third story in Rodimus' journey, that will have to wait a bit. I have a two VERY short stories in mind that will help bridge the gap between Inherit and Future. They're essential to the plot because they bring in characters that mean everything to those characters.
If you want more Earthspark or anymore of my fanfics, favourite and/or put me on your alert. I've been dying to submit the first short story to this website for a very long time. And it's got tonnes of stickiness for you!
Until next story! Stay tuned for more exciting adventures with Rodimus Prime and the gang!
