Uncharted: Tomb of the inFAMOUS Rush
Episode 17: Trust Goes Both Ways
Traveling through the tunnels, Cole and Lara managed to find more of Trinity soldiers, deeper in the cave.
Maybe we can get the elevator working. Got to be a way out up there.
Hold on. I think I can…
Lara: This is bad…
Cole: We can do this. Just like before. Take them out, without being seen.
Working together, staying out of sight, Lara and Cole eliminated every Trinity soldier. One by one, each of them fell to the ground and the two pressed on.
Lara: Do you think Jacob and Samuel are alright?
Cole: No way of knowing. We'll just have to hope for the best.
Lara: Do you think the Divine Source could be in here somewhere?
Cole: Let's just deliver Jacob's message and be done with this.
Even after all they've been through, Cole was still giving Lara the cold shoulder. It was clear that he still held anger towards her. But since Lara mattered much to Nate and Sullivan, along with Samantha, he had to stay behind and watch over her. Progressing through the caves, Lara used her twin pick axes and climbed up the icy wall, making it to the upper edge. As for Cole…he simply used his powers and shot a lightning tether to the top, as it launched him upward, catching up with Lara.
Lara: Maybe it is best that you don't use your powers. You might need them for later.
Cole: You don't have to be concerned. Not all of my powers drain me of my energy. Only a few.
Lara: MacGrath. Listen…
Cole: We need to keep moving. There's a chance Jacob and Samuel are ahead of us.
Together, they continued on, heading deeper and deeper inside of the caves. That's when they came across what appeared to be a long-lost city. But it was in ruins.
Cole: Whoa…
Lara: Could this be part of the lost city…?
Cole: Hard to believe all of this was here…and we didn't even know.
Lara: My father did. I can't believe what I'm really looking upon it all.
Cole could see how much Lara was amazed by everything. He began walking on, trying to find Jacob's possible village. But as the progressed on, the tremors became more and more violent.
Cole: Lara, save the sight-seeing for later. We've gotta move!
Lara nodded at Cole, as she ran to catch up with him. But as she did, the floor, beneath her had collapsed and she began to fall. Luckily for her, Cole was with her and he immediately grabbed her arm, pulling her up to his side. From underneath Lara's foot, there were spikes. If it weren't for Cole, she would've been killed.
Lara: Thank you.
Cole: Yeah well, just be thankful that I was even here. Now, let's move on.
Lara got back on her feet and pressed on, with Cole. With hope on their side, the two had finally made it out of the cave and came across what appeared to be a small settlement.
Cole: Is this…
Before they could breathe in relief, they were met with an unpleasant group of men with arrows, aiming for both Cole and Lara. And there, it was her. That girl, from before. Sofia.
Sofia: Stop right there!
Cole: Ah, crap…
Lara: Easy! Easy! You know I'm not with Trinity.
Sofia: Why should we believe you?
Cole: Well, last time we met, you saw us leave a trail of Trinity bodies, behind us…
Lara: I escaped with one of yours. A man named Jacob.
Although that didn't ease her hostility, Sofia did seem more willing to listen to reason.
Sofia: Where is he now?
Cole: We were together but we got separated in the mines.
She killed him!
Cole: Whoa. Easy there…
Sofia: Jacob would never trust an outsider.
Lara: Please, listen we are not your enemy.
Cole: I don't think they're willing to listen…
Sofia: I warned you. You should have left.
Thanks to Sofia, every other villager had their arrows ready to fire at Cole and Lara. It looked like talking it out was no longer an option.
Cole: I've had enough of this.
Pulsing his arm, with electricity, Cole shot at a building, behind Sofia and the other villagers. Their expressions were changed from hostility to fear. Cole's body became engulfed with lightning, ready to fire off another bolt.
Lara: MacGrath, what are you doing…
Cole: TRY IT AGAIN! YOU SHOOT US AND I'LL FRY YOU, LIKE A PIECE OF BACON! COME ON!
Lara: What are you doing?! This isn't the way to earn their trust.
Cole: Anyone ever tell you talking things out doesn't get you anywhere? They wanna be violent, well so can I!
Cole! Stop!
Sofia! Enough!
Behind Lara and Cole, Jacob and Samuel Drake emerged, from the mines.
Sofia: Father!
Sofia lowered her arrow and rushed to Jacob, embracing him, with a hug.
Samuel: Sorry we took so long to catch up. Had some trouble with Trinity.
Lara: Did they follow you?
Samuel: Doubt it.
Cole: …
Sofia: I thought I lost you.
Jacob: I'm glad you made it out of there.
Cole: Hmph.
Jacob: Forgive Sofia, she is…cautious.
Cole: Yeah…might wanna work on that.
Lara: In her position, I'd be the same way.
Sofia: What did you find out?
Jacob: Trinity is coming in force. We must prepare.
Sofia: And them?
Jacob turned his attention to Samuel, Lara and Cole…
Jacob: They are friends. on my word, no harm will come to them.
But…what about him?
One of the villagers asked, pointing towards Cole, whos body still pulsed, with electricity.
Cole: You stay out of my way…and I'll stay out of yours. Sound simple enough?
With a cold stare, Cole began walking away, leaving Lara and Samuel behind.
Lara: These ruins…we must be near the Prophet's Lost City.
Jacob: Come. We do not have much time. Prepare the weapon stores, secure the battlements. Go! Now!
With that, every villager began to scatter, making the preparations for the fight, against Trinity.
Jacob: They're almost here.
Samuel: But uh…we're outnumbered. You haven't forgotten that, right?
The children and elders are vulnerable.
Jacob: Go. Get them into the catacombs. Light the fires – the valley must be alerted.
Somewhere, off on his own, Cole was sitting on the edge, looking out at the great wide open, seeing everything. He was amazed at how beautiful and breath-taking everything was. But he couldn't shake the anger and frustration he held inside.
Need some company?
Cole looked behind him and saw Samuel Drake was standing behind him.
Cole: I prefer to be alone…but sure.
Samuel joined Cole and sat on the edge of a cliff, taking out a cigarette and lighting it, with his match.
Samuel: Beautiful, eh? I can't believe I'm even here.
Cole: …
Samuel: Want one?
Cole: You've got me confused with Zeke. I don't smoke.
Samuel: Right, right, okay. Just tryin' to cheer you up.
Cole: What for?
Samuel: Well, no offense. But you've been kinda sour, since Nathan and them took off.
Cole: I have every reason to be.
Samuel: Why? Because Lara wants to prove the world wrong, by finding this Divine Source?
Cole: …
Samuel: That's her whole point for this, y'know? To prove her father right.
Cole: She'll get herself killed, if this continues.
Samuel: Not when she's got you.
Cole: I'm not her damn bodyguard. I'm just a Conduit, who's out of his own timeline, trying to keep her alive and return her to Nate and the others. Other than that…
Samuel: I get it. I get it. No need for the tough guy act.
Cole: You're such a bastard, you know that? You remind me a lot of Zeke.
Samuel: Yeah, I heard he's your best pal?
Cole: Something like that. Or…he used to be.
Samuel: Yeah, Nate told me about the whole Empire City incident.
Just hearing the mention of its name made Cole scarred, on the inside. Thinking back, on the Freedom Survivor, Cole and the others got word that the Beast was still alive and it had completely destroyed Empire City. And even if Cole wanted to turn back the clock and redo everything, there was no way to telling if he would return to the proper time and place.
Samuel: You carry a lot of weight, you know? It's not good for you.
Cole: …
Samuel: Well, I'm off to help the others. Feel free to join, whenever you're ready.
Samuel began to walk off, as he left Cole, sitting there, stuck in his thoughts. Back with Nathan and the others, they completely their mission and managed to steal what they needed. On a table, Zeke grabbed the cross, along with a hammer and was about smash it…not before letting out a sarcastic sentence…
Zeke: Really hope I don't to hell for this.
With much force, Zeke used the hammer and broke the top half of the cross.
Zeke: Hahaha!
Samantha: What is it?
Zeke: Feast your eyes, honorable thieves.
Zeke shook the cross (upside down) and out popped what appeared to be a letter.
Sully: All right, skull and crossbones. Very good sign.
Nathan: That's Avery's insignia…
Zeke removed the red skull and crossbones sticker, unrolling the paper and looked to be some kind of pirate symbol.
Kat: What is it?
Zeke: Anybody know what this says?
Nathan: Lemme take a crack at it.
Zeke handed the paper to Nate, as he tried reading the language…
Nathan: Ah… "Hodie mecum eris in Paradiso."
Zeke: The hell does that mean?
Nathan: "Today you will join me in Paradise." It's what Jesus said to Saint Dismas on the Cross but…
Samantha: What about these numbers here? What do those mean?
Sully: Some kind of code? Or a phone number?
Zeke: Well whoever owned that number is probably long gone.
Nathan: C'mon. They're dates…
Zeke: Huh?
Nathan: Look. 1659, the year Avery was born. And this is 1699.
Sully: Lemme guess, the year he died?
Nathan: By most accounts, yeah.
Zeke: Alright. So we have date of birth, date of death and "Paradise."
Samantha: Sooo…what does that mean? That we're looking for Avery's grave?
Nathan: At Saint Dismas' Cathedral…
Zeke: How about that.
Sully: Wait a second. Hasn't Rafe been scouring that site for ages already?
Nathan: Yeah, the cathedral. Look at this…
Nathan pulled out a little journal and began pointing at the symbols on the paper.
Nathan: See these symbols?
Sully: Yeah.
Nathan: These are found on old Scottish gravestones. Now look at this. The layout of this place is really unusual.
Zeke: Huh?
Nathan: Here's the cathedral. But the graveyard…is way over here.
Samantha: So Rafe's been focusing on the wrong area…?
Nathan: Exactly.
Zeke: If that's case then…we're goin' to Scotland.
Sully: All right, all right. Wait—wait up. You do realize that Rafe knows we're coming?
Zeke: Don't even sweat it, Sully. We can deal with that, when we get there.
Sully: That psycho would like nothing better than for you to show up.
Samantha: Not only that but he has that woman Nadine and her entire army to back him up.
Nathan: Yeah but he doesn't have this. The biggest pirate treasure of all time is within our grasp.
Zeke: C'mon, Sully. I thought this was about having a hell of an adventure!
Sully: No, this was about helping Nate clear his head.
Samantha: And it's working, isn't it?
Zeke: It can be about both, old man. We need to find the treasure so we can keep Nate distracted. At least until Cole and Lara come back.
Sully: How is Cole okay with all this?
Zeke: Cole and I have been through rough times, during Empire, you know that. So me takin' part in this, it ain't no different. Don't worry, we've got this.
Samantha: Yeah, come on, Sully. What do you say?
Seeing he was outnumbered, Sully gave into the crew.
Sully: Well, I hear that the weather is great in Scotland.
Samantha: There you go!
Zeke: Guess we're all set then!
Samantha: What about Kuo and Kat?
Sully: Kuo got a call from Jonah. He said he needed her help.
Zeke: And Kat should be here somewhere.
Nathan: I'll get the gear set up. Zeke, can you help?
Zeke: Hell yeah!
