Swim
Hello, hope you are having a good day. This is Aaronna's second prompt. Hope you like it.
Arthur was 8 years old. It was a hot summer day and most of his friends were going to go swimming.
"Father, can I go swimming with my friends?" Arthur asked.
"No. You have far more important things to do." Uther answered.
"Yes, father."
It was always the same. Arthur was never allowed to go swimming and Uther never taught him how to swim. As Arthur grew older, he had lost most of his chances to learn. One day, when he was king, they were near a lake. Arthur waded in the shallows while everyone else went deeper.
"Come on, Arthur. Come join us." Merlin said.
"No thank you, Merlin. I would rather stay here if you don't mind." Arthur answered. Merlin sighed. They swam for several minutes and then went back to shore. They were drying off when they were attacked by bandits. They all fought of the bandits but one of them grabbed Merlin and threw him in the deep end of the lake after putting a heavy chain around him.
"Merlin!" Arthur exclaimed as he watched his friend try to swim but ended up losing. When Merlin was under water, Arthur didn't know what to do. He couldn't swim but if he didn't save Merlin, he would die. Arthur jumped into the water and somehow was able to swim. He looked under water and found Merlin drowning. He grabbed Merlin and pulled him out of the water. When they got to shore, Arthur heard Merlin gasp and start coughing. Soon the knights ran over and helped the two.
"Arthur, thank you for saving me." Merlin gasped.
"I don't know how I did it. I can't swim." Arthur answered. "I was never taught how to swim. Father never had time to teach me and he would never let me go swimming with my friends. As I grew older, I had more responsibilities and less time to learn how to swim. That's why I would stay near the shore."
"Well, at least you managed to safe me. Can someone help me get these chains off before I stop breathing?"
They smiled and helped get the chains off Merlin. When Merlin was safe, the knights and Arthur went in the lake. The knights taught Arthur how to swim. Merlin watched from the shore. Soon, Arthur was swimming. Whenever they went to the lake all of them would swim. Everyone had more fun when Arthur was with them.
