"You made the choice to bring me back. You obviously cared for Julie, me. Why are you withholding the memories?" she asked.
"It's not just your choice. You have a husband now. I believe he deserves consideration." said the Doctor.
Elise looked to Sherlock. His face was emotionless and his eyes were piercing as he looked at her. "The choice has always been yours, Elise."
"I just need to know." she said.
"Of course." he said.
"No, no you don't. You humans and your answers." said the doctor beginning to pace.
"Doctor, if she wishes to have the memories and you are somehow capable of restoring them, then honor her request." said Sherlock. He walked to Elise. "I will be waiting in the next room." She studied his face. She could see his uneasiness masked as he did. He was genuine in his love and caring for her. Was she being selfish in wanting to know the memories? "Stop it." said Sherlock interrupting her thoughts.
"Stop what?" she asked confused.
"Deducing me." he said smiling as he turned to exit the room.
Once he had left the Doctor approached Elise, "You're hurting him. Hurting him for nothing."
"I'm not hurting him. I love him." she said.
"Then go to him. The memories won't add anything. It's pointless." he said looking in her eyes.
"Then return them to me and let me decide." she said.
He knew she would not let it rest. She never had. Yes Julie died, but part of her still remembered on some level. He saw it in her eyes.
"I can't undo the memories once I transfer them." he said taking her hand.
"I'll sign a waiver." she smiled.
He took her other hand. He stood inches from her pulling her face close until their foreheads touched. "Are you sure?" he asked.
She smiled nervously as she pushed the doubts aside. "Yes."
"Ok, then. Here we go." he said. He pressed his forehead closer. A million images flash before her eyes. The doctor and herself. Travels. His gentle touch. His humor. His protective nature. Danger. Wedding. Ben. Sherlock. Suddenly the images ended. She felt faint.
"Elise?" asked the doctor.
She looked up at him. "You." she said as she suddenly collapsed. The doctor caught her
"Julie," he whispered, "I tried to tell you." he said picking her up and carefully laying her on the cot. He gently kissed her cheek.
"What happened?" asked Sherlock returning to the room.
"I think the memories overwhelmed her." said the doctor brushing the hair from her eyes. "I've restored her memories now. Take care of her." he said standing to leave.
"No. You're not leaving. Not yet." said Sherlock.
"I've done what was asked." said the doctor.
"Well, now I have questions," said Sherlock.
"Oh come now, you're Sherlock Holmes, I'm sure you've got it all sorted. What question could you possible have for me?" said the doctor playfully.
"I want to know why you're scared?" said Sherlock.
"Scared?" scoffed the doctor. "I'm not scared. I'm late."
"Late?" asked Sherlock.
"Yes, I'm a time lord, always some place to be and more than likely late somewhere. They don't really make clocks for such travels." he smiled.
"Amusing." said Sherlock clearly not amused. "Why the sudden need to rush off? What memories have been restored? I have a right to know since I will be the one tending to her since you're," he paused, "late."
The doctor and Sherlock exchanged a glance. The doctor returned his focus to Elise. "I love Julie."
"Loved." said Sherlock.
The doctor looked at Sherlock clearly reserving argument. "That was my mistake."
"So you've said, more or less. How is that a reason to run before she wakes?" asked Sherlock.
"Because I don't want to face it again. Not another goodbye to her." he said pausing. "Have you ever lost someone?" asked the doctor.
"Of course." he said.
"Well, if you had the power to travel time and space, would you use it to go back and get them? Save them?" asked the doctor staring at Elise.
"It's not possible in my world." said Sherlock.
"But it is in mine and I did it for you." he said.
"She was taken from this world against her will." said Sherlock.
The doctor calmly turned from Elise and as he masked his sadness, simply responded, "Aren't they all?"
