21.

It was a pure coincident that he found it was Olivia's birthday today. He overheard her on the phone a couple of days ago, forbidding her friend from making a fuss. Olivia was the kind of person that put everyone before herself, she didn't like to be the centre of attention. She had made this reputation about herself that she was invincible and something unhuman that didn't have something as mundane as a birthday. In other people's eyes Olivia Pope was a phenomenon, an illusion that came in and fixed their problem, then disappeared again. And she liked it that way.

Fitz knew that she had not mentioned her birthday for a reason. They had been together since the start of the campaign trail, almost two months, and not once had Olivia mentioned her upcoming birthday, but on the other hand she had made a big fuss about his birthday just last month and spoiled him rotten. So that was exactly what he was going to do today, spoil her rotten.

With their hectic schedule there wasn't much time for pampering or time to yourself and if anyone deserved some pampering it was Olivia, she worked her arse off every single day. Somehow they had managed to get a weekend off for a change and a break in their hectic schedule, Cyrus was off on a secret getaway with James and he was going to take the opportunity to spoil Olivia rotten.

She was currently curled up on their bed, under the covers, fast asleep as he was setting the table with the breakfast he had called up with room-service. They always booked two rooms but they only ever used one since the first time they spent the night together after she followed him into his room. He liked it that way, how it made him smile as he woke up every morning and found her sleeping next to him, how he got to share something as intimate and mundane as living together with her. It was the best feeling in the world according to him. Olivia Pope made him the happiest man alive and to spoil her on her birthday was just the start of him showing how much he appreciated having her in his life. He finished laying up all the food on the table and moved over to the bed leaned over the sleeping Olivia.

"Olivia, it's time to wake up!" He spoke lowly in her ear and moved a stray piece of hair away from her face. She stirred slightly, moving towards the sound of his voice, before slowly opening her eyes. "Good morning, beautiful!"

"Good morning!" She smiled brightly and rolled over on her side. Fitz leaned down and touched his lips to hers.

"Happy birthday!" He mumbled against her lips and he could feel her immediately stiffen and pull away from him as he uttered the words.

"Fitz." The warning was clear in her voice, she was not in the least pleased that he knew her birthday and was bringing it up.

"Liv." He said in the same warning tone as she had and put some of his weight on top of her to prove his point. "It's your birthday and we are going to celebrate, it's not up for discussion."

To that Olivia had no response and just pressed her lips together and glared up at him as he pulled her out of bed in all her glory. She pulled away from to put on her dressing gown before reluctantly sitting down in the chair he was holding out for her. They were sitting in front of the big windows with a beautiful view of morning Seattle, with the waterfront straight ahead with the ferryboats taking commuters to start their workday. It was quiet idyllic to watch the city come to life down below while still sitting in your pyjamas and not doing a thing.

Olivia seemed as entranced with the view as he was as she was picking in her fruit salad, still half asleep.

"So, what's your plan for this ridicules day you have chosen to acknowledge?" She inquired before she put a strawberry in her mouth.

"Well, I was thinking we could act normal for a change."

"Normal?!" She asked with a disbelieving laugh. What's normal?"

"We could take a ride on a ferry, go somewhere for lunch and visit a museum or something before coming back here." He could see Olivia stop for a minute and so did he, afraid that she would laugh in his face and call it and stupid idea. But it never came.

"That sounds really nice." She spoke quietly, not once meeting his gaze. He left it at that and they finished off their breakfast making small talk and just enjoying a quiet morning in each other's company.

The outing was just a way to spend time until this evening when he had planned a romantic dinner for them out on the balcony, where he was also presenting her his gift. Though doing something normal for a change and get away from their crazy and complicated life for a day was looking more and more tempting by the second because of the small smile on Olivia's face.

After a long shower together, where they could not stop touching each other, they got dressed and got out to explore what Seattle had to offer. Olivia had left her hair curly after their shower instead of flattening it and he was wearing knitted hat, no one would look at them twice on a cold winter day like this. They were walking down the street hand in hand towards the waterfront. Hopping off the ferry they walked to a nearby café and grabbed a coffee before they started to wander down the streets, looking in the windows of nearby shops and galleries. They had a great day exploring Seattle like any other tourist and when they returned to the hotel they were both ecstatic.

ooOoOoOoo

He was currently sitting on the bed, dressed in one of his best tuxes, waiting for Olivia to emerge from the bathroom. After they had taken a nap after returning from their excursion, he had sent her to the bathroom to get ready. That was two hours ago and he was starting to get a little impatient.

Just as he was about to get up and bang on the door and demand that she came out it opened and Olivia stepped out, looking absolutely beautiful. She smiled lightly and did a slow turn for him on the middle of the floor, clad in one of her many gala gowns she wore to all of the important dinners and fancy events. Slowly he rose from the bed and walked over to her, watching her the entire time. His hands found her waist as he pulled her into a quick but sweet kiss before he pulled away, knowing that is he didn't they would never get out to dinner.

He took her arm and led her out their balcony with a view of Seattle. Every surface was covered with candles that he had spent a long time lightning when Olivia was getting ready. Food and flowers adorned the table with two chairs, and there was also a blanket waiting for Olivia since it was quiet cold, despite the heaters.

"Look at you being all romantic!"

"Well you're special!" He said as he helped her into her chair before sitting down in his own. Olivia looked away very quickly, but he could have sworn he saw her blush.

Taking the covers of their food they made a toast before they dug into their food, the whole time laughing and talking as if they had not just spent the day doing exactly that. The food was replaced with dessert and he moved his chair closer to hers. Not once in two months had they ever been on a real romantic date like this. It was always a quick shared meal in one of their rooms before they had to go to sleep because they had an early morning the next day, or they had a late night talk in bed because they had not been able to talk all day, that's how hectic their days was. So really it was a gift to him as well to be able to do something like this.

When they were done with dessert they had come to that part of the night he had been dreading all day, torturing herself over her reaction. He knew he was pushing it like it was by even acknowledging that it was her birthday, he figured she wouldn't be too pleased when she found out he had bought her a gift as well.

"So Liv!" He interrupted her. "I know that you are already displeased with me for today, so I figured what's the harm of drawing it out a little bit more." He said and tried to sound as calm as he could possibly be with the nerves running amuck inside of him.

"What have you done now, Fitz?" She asked warningly. "If you have thrown together a party or something downstairs, you will regret it!"

Shaking he stuck his hand in his pocket and pulled out the box that had been resting there all night. He placed it on the table and watch her closely as she took in the little black box, trying to figure out what she was thinking. It took a few minutes before she even started to reach for it, he could see her small hands trembling as she picked it up and carefully opening the lid.

After she had opened it he could almost hear her draw a breath of relief when she saw what was inside, not what she had been expecting, or dreading. She took out the golden ring and held it up for both of them to see.

"My mother gave me that ring. I am supposed to give it to my wife one day, but I am choosing to give it to you. I have never felt like this in my life, I feel like I can do anything when I am with you. You are the love of my life, to have you walk into that campaign meeting two months ago was the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love you, Liv! And I wanted to give you this ring to show you that even though we might not be able to show the world yet, I still want to show them you belong with me."

He took the ring from hand and put it gently on her left middle finger, the gold matching her skin beautifully. When he finally looked up at her face again since he began his speech, he could see tears pooling in her eyes as she looked down at the ring now adorning her finger.

"Happy birthday, Liv!"

Olivia didn't say anything for minutes, she just kept staring at the ring, but then suddenly she stood up abruptly and he felt his heart sink to his stomach before she took his hand and pulled him out of his chair. She led him back through the balcony doors and shot them behind them before she moved towards the bed. He sat down at her silent command and watched with big eyes as she slowly unzipped her dress and let it fall to form a puddle at her feet.

As soon as came in reach she pushed down his jacket and started to torturously slow unbutton his shirt. It took every bit of willpower and patience for him to let her take her time and not pounce on her then and there. Finally they were at the same state of undress and they lay down in the middle of the bed in a tangled web of limbs. Olivia's face was radiant as she stared down at him, and though she had not said it back, he could see the love she held in her eyes. It was so intense that it made his chest ache and slowly stripped him of all self-control, all he wanted to do was burry himself in her love and never come back up for air.

The rest I leave up to your imagination. I hope you guys enjoyed, it was a complete spur of the moment thing and not a very interesting storyline but I needed some fluff at the moment.

If you any suggestions or wishes of what I should write next, feel free to leave me a note I always love to hear what you have to say!
