Chapter 20
Shi woke me up early the next morning, and I quickly let him outside. Spencer and I got ready for the day, while Shi was running around outside. I could tell that Spencer was nervous about going to school, but I did not know how to make him feel better.
We went downstairs, and I let Shi back inside, while Spencer told his parents goodbye.
"Be careful", called his mom after us, as we were leaving.
I smiled at her: "Of course. Don't worry. Spencer will be safe."
We got into the car and headed toward the school.
"Are you sure it's okay that you're taking Shi with you?" asked Spencer, glancing at Shi in the backseat.
"Of course", I replied. "He is extra protection for you."
Spencer looked unconvinced: "I don't think they'll let you bring a wolf into the school though."
I smirked: "He has a FBI ID, so they'll have to let him stay with me."
"He has a FBI ID?" asked Spencer surprised.
I nodded: "Yup."
We had arrived at the school and got out of the car. Everyone hurried to get out of our way, looking terrified of Shi, who was walking in perfect heel position next to me.
"Special Agent Lily Kuroyuki", I announced when we entered the office. "This is my charge, Spencer Hale. James Black, the head of the FBI, called about us."
"Yes, of course", answered the woman sitting at the desk. "Um, is that a wolf? You can't bring a wolf in here!"
"That's Special Agent Shi Kuroyuki", I told her and showed her his ID.
She nodded unsure.
At that moment, the school's officer walked into the office, and the woman sitting at the desk quickly introduced us. The officer's name was Thomas Hartley. He gave us a quick tour of the school, before accompanying us to Spencer's first period—AP Calculus. Afterwards, he had AP British Literature, Gym, and French II.
Not many people were in class yet, since it was still ten minutes before school started. I introduced us to the teacher, who seemed to be the first person not having a problem with Shi. He gave Spencer his book and told him where to sit.
While Spencer was getting his stuff out, ready for class, Officer Hartley turned to me: "Do you need me to stay with you to protect Spencer."
I shook my head: "No, I don't need any help. Special Agent Shi is right here if I need help, but he has never had to help me before, so I am sure I'll be fine this time too."
Officer Hartley looked unconvinced, but he nodded and left the room.
I sighed and sat down in the seat behind Spencer; his teacher, Mr. Smith, told me this seat would be empty, so I could sit there.
"Don't worry, Lily. I'm sure you'll get the chance to show him your killing skills", chuckled Spencer.
I rolled my eyes at him: "Just once, I want to be able to go somewhere as a bodyguard without having my abilities questioned."
"I'm sure one day everyone will fear you", continued Spencer laughing. "Just like your dad."
I laughed at that.
A bell rang, signaling that school would start in two minutes. The last few students hurried into the room, and the second bell soon rang.
Mr. Smith quickly introduced Spencer as the new student, and me and Shi as his bodyguards. Then he started class.
Spencer's first and second periods were pretty uneventful. Both of his teacher were nice and did not complain about Shi. We were sitting in the cafeteria for lunch now. Spencer had found Lucas, who happened to be in his second and third period. It was just the four of us—Spencer, Lucas, Shi, and me.
After lunch we went to third period—Gym. I introduced us to the teacher, who looked very skeptical of me. I followed Spencer into the guys' locker room—Officer Hartley had allowed me to do that. The guys seemed to all try to impress me by trying to look sexy undressing. I was watching Spencer though. He seemed to be a bit uncomfortable changing next to Lucas, and I saw Lucas sneak a glance at Spencer's chest. He quickly turned away from everyone, but I saw that he was blushing slightly. Now I knew Lucas liked Spencer too.
Gym class started out boring. First they stretched, and then they did some pushups, crunches, and sit-ups.
Suddenly the door to the Gym opened, showing the officer, looking rather scared. I quickly realized why he looked so scared: My brother and Shuichi were following him.
I smirked, and I could see Spencer smirk too.
"They need to talk to you, Special Agent Kuroyuki", told me Officer Hartley quietly.
My dad walked towards me: "You left this at home, Lily." He handed me something long wrapped in a thick cloth.
I carefully unwrapped the cloth to find my katana in it. I quickly tied the sheath to my belt and hugged my dad: "Thank you, dad!"
He hugged me back: "You're welcome."
I stepped away and saw everyone looking at us shocked.
Shuichi stepped next to my dad: "That's not the main reason we are here though. We have been assigned to protect the other students in case someone tries to harm Spencer."
Spencer and I both started laughing.
"Wow, dad. You're really going to protect a bunch of high school kids?" I asked, still laughing hard.
He glared at me: "Lily Amanda Rose Kuroyuki! Are you doubting my abilities?"
I smirked slightly: "No, of course not. Just your commitment to keeping every single student alive."
My dad smirked widely, and I could see everyone shudder at his smirk.
He bent down, petting Shi: "How are you doing, Shi?"
Shi happily licked his face, rubbing his head against my dad's hand.
Officer Hartley walked up to me: "Well, I would like to apologize for doubting you this morning. I am sure now that you are more than capable of protecting Spencer."
I just nodded.
My dad and Shuichi exchanged a few more words with Officer Hartley, before he left. Then they sat down with me on the bleachers, while Shi laid down on our laps.
The rest of the class went by in almost total silence. Everyone kept on glancing towards my dad and me, looking terrified.
